The Question of Infinity on graphs

I need to plot an asymptotic trignometric tan graph using the following values:

The column dependent_v in the respective table is varchar2(50). To
plot the values using report builder in oracle 6i developer, I need to convert the varchar field to a number field using To_Number function. But since infinity doesn't have a precise value an error, ora-01722 occurs. How can I generate tan, cosec, sec and other trig functions with asymptotes?

Ok , after I wrote that I thought about it a little more and came up with another idea simply using the existing RowSet that you'd use to display the line items. On a deletion you'd simply iterate through the RowSet and update each line accordingly:
lineItemsRowSet.setHoldability(lineItemsRowSet.HOLD_CURSORS_OVER_COMMIT);
lineItemsRowSet.setConcurrency(lineItemsRowSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
lineItemsRowSet.execute() ;
lineItemsRowSet.next() ;
lineItemsRowSet.setCommand(" SELECT * FROM LINEITEMS WHERE LINEITEMS.ORDERNUMBER  = ? " );
lineItemsRowSet.setObject( 1, getSessionBean1.OrderNumber) ;
lineItems.execute() ;
int lineNumber = 0 ;
while ( lineItems.next() ) {
       lineItemsRowSet.moveToCurrentRow() ;
       lineNumber ++ ;
       lineItemsRowSet.updateInt("LINENUMBER",   lineNumber);
       lineItemsRowSet.updateRow() ;
