The Verizon $200 trade in is a scam

The Verizon $200 trade in is a scam. Don't fall for it. As for the customer service reps replying in the threads. None of them will truly help you with your issues. Don't fall for it and do not send them your phones.

MY experience today at the Verizon has made me feel like this scam is actually true.  I 've been with Verizon for years and have never been disappointed till tonight.  On Sept. 28th I went to my local Verizon store to purchase 2 iPhone 6s. In the process of doing so I was offered a GoPro camera to purchase. I was informed that my $200 rebates (for each iPhone traded in) can help with the purchase of the GoPro. Sounded like a great deal so I bought into it.  The Verizon store ordered the phones for me and was informed  that the phones will be arriving by Oct. 17 and when they come in come back to the store for the exchange. The phones came in ( i was overjoyed since it came in a bit earlier than anticipated)and I went to the store today for the exchange I was promised.  As soon as I brought the phones in I was informed that they no longer honor the $200 rebate and that my phones were worth $30 each.  The offered ended yesterday!  Why would you offer a deal knowing it would end before I actually got the phone? I can no longer afford this camera I purchased on Sept. 28th.  At the time of the purchase they ensured me that the rebate would happen.  I am beyond disappointed.

  • How do I get Verizon to honor the $200 trade-in? (they only gave me $36).

I'm writing this while on hold for the "Verizon Device Recycling--rippoff--Program".  (877) 835-2024.
I've seen on line that many others have had the same problem.
I traded in my iphone4 (in great condition), followed all the directions to a T and they send me a gift card for $36.
It was promised to be $200 ($40 for the phone in good condition and $160 in promotional value).
Has anyone had any luck in getting the $200?  If so, how?
    Thanks,

(So far, this appears to be a scam, where they just don't want to give you the promotional value of the phone).

My wife and I went to the Verizon store to purchase her an iPhone 6+.  We were told of this great promotion to receive $200 back and the iPhone 6 was $199.  Great deal, we thought!  I bought an iPhone 6 and my wife an iPhone 6+.  We were told that we would get the rebate when Verizon received  our phones.  I got my phone and went online to print the return label.  My wife iPhone 6+ hasn't shipped yet.  I found out that the promotion ended yesterday and that I should have printed the label before that time.  We lost out on the rebate.  What a scam!  I went to the store and was told that it's the customer’s responsibility to follow up and that all of their sales reps were trained to ensure the process was understood.  We left the store believing that we would have 14 days to return our phones.  This would never have happened if we received written instructions.  It was the stores responsibility to ENSURE that the customer received the correct procedure information.  Obviously a scam on Verizon's part! Is this the stores issue or Verizon's? How can we get our rebate?

That is not what my trade in disclaimer said at all...  You had to PURCHASE an iphone 6 by 10/15.  But you have seven days to send the device back after receiving it...
How could I send my iphone in before I received the new one?  I would have no cell phone for a month because it was on back order.
This is the email I received after submitting my order:
"The appraised value includes a promotional offer that requires a purchase of an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus on Verizon Wireless by 10/15/2014. Your device must be mailed to Verizon Wireless within 7 days after receiving the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus but no later than 12/01/2014. Device received after 12/01/2014 will be reassessed at current market value. Damaged and non-working devices will be appraised according to their condition at time of inspection."
Hope this helps in some way.

  • What is the best way to preorder multiple iPhone 6s and take advantage of the $200 trade in deal?

    Here's my scenario.
    Currently: I have 2 iPhone 4 and 1 iPhone 4S
Plan: Upgrade all three to iPhone 6 Plus (16GB)
What is the best way to do the $200 trade in deal for each of the old phone?
    http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/faqs/Equipment/trade_in_program.html#iPhone Trade-in Promotion
    1. When I preorder at 12:01 AM do I have to pay $300 or $100 for each?
    2. Do I have to send the old iPhones first in order to get the $200 gift cards?
What should I do to make sure each preorder can be discounted?

        Vice_Actual,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We are super excited about the launch of the new iPhone. In order to get the trade in deal you would need to trade in the device and then you would get a Verizon Wireless gift card mailed out to you. If you pay for the devices with a credit card on pre-order the card will not be charged until the devices are shipped.

  • BB won't honor the $200 trade if your phone didn't arrive by the 17th?

People are reporting all over social media that BB stores are denying people who preordered the note 4 the $200 trade in if their phone didn't come in on launch day??????
Well that is 99% of us.
If this is the case, this is the most dishonest thing I have ever seen from a major retailer. I was specifically told (per the trade in details) that the preorder must be placed in the time line (9/19/14-10/16/14). No mention that the phone must be received on the launch date to be able to use the $200 trade in promotion.
Can a BB rep please respond to this and give us accurate and reliable information?
We have been mislead by so many BB employees throughout this entire preorder experience it is mind blowing.
    Thanks....

    Hello again thegipper-
It is never our intention to mislead customers regarding the availability of products.  However, vendor agreements and product availability to influence what information we can give to customers.
A pre-order with Best Buy does not guarantee availability of that item on release day, it simply guarantees that you will have first crack at the product as we receive them from the manufacturer.  As this availability can be influenced by vendor agreements, product availability and shipping issues, we are not able to guarantee release date availability.  I apologize if you were given any information that we would promise that you would have your phone on the release date or for any incorrect information we supplied about the release date of the Verizon version.  We have no control over release dates being changed.
I’m truly sorry that you have not received your pre-ordered phone yet.  Best Buy continues to work with Samsung to get more inventory so that we can fulfill those pre-orders as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience during this process.

  • IPhone 6 $200 Trade-in Scam

I am trying the forums to get help because both the trad-in number and general Verizon number have failed to do anything.
On October 14, 2014, I submitted my old iPhone 4s for the $200 trade-in promotion when purchasing a new iPhone 6.  The online submission worked and confirm I qualified for the $200 trade-in.
I received the shipping envelope on October 31, 2014 and shipped my iPhone 4s from the post office on November 3, 2014.  After waiting weeks and the status still showing not received via the status check from the trade-in website, I called the support line.
Once in November and once in December I was told that my iPhone 4s had been received (even though the website still had the status of not received) and to just wait because they were so busy.  I waited and waited giving Verizon time because I do believe that this was a very popular trade-in promotion.
After finally waiting until January 2015, I have the support line a call again on 1/19/2015 and was informed that they had received my iPhone 4s, processed it, and had sent me an email at the very end of December with the gift card.  Although I couldn't find any records of this email and it was not in my spam folder, I believed that I had just missed it.  The customer service rep said she could send another email, just wait 24-48 hours and I should have.  I waited over 48 hours without receiving said email (not in spam or anything).  On 1/21/15, I called the support line back just to see if they could maybe send it to another email address to see if that might actually work.  I was informed by the new rep I talked to that 1) my iPhone 4s has not been received, 2) it is now too late to do anything.  I have been told so many different things every time I call in, I cannot get a straight answer from anyone!
Verizon has stolen my iPhone 4s!  I have waited for over 3 months because they kept telling me they were just backed up and now this.  Giving up on the trade-in support phone, I called the main Verizon number on 1/21/2015 to see if they could help me.  I was placed on hold for 32 mins while the rep "checked with his supervisor".  After 32 mins on hold, I was transferred back to the general trade-in support line without even a rep coming back on the line to explain why.  I got no help here either.
I am getting absolutely nowhere with anyone at Verizon.  It really seems like everyone feeds you bull so you will just hangup and give up.  Can anyone actually assist me?  Is there another phone number or email address where Verizon actually cares about it's customers?
    Thanks

        mb139,

  • Regesitered for $200 trade in. Recieved defective IPhone 6. While waiting for a new one top button on my IPhone 4s stops working. Am I out of luck for the $200?

I recently order a new IPhone 6, I also signed up for the $200 trade in on my old IPhone 4s (which was working fine when I order my new phone). I then received my new IPhone 6 (old phone still working fine), while trying to set up the new phone with Verizon call center. I was trying to talk on speaker phone and the call center was unable to hear me. It was determined that my speaker phone was not working and that Verizon was going to send me a new phone. It was a little disappointing not being able to use my new phone and having to order a new phone paying for it (which I understand will be refunded once I send back my defective IPhone 6) also having to wait another month for my phone to come it was kind of annoying, which I am still waiting on. I still didn't ask for anything special I was just happy that Verizon was going to send me another phone. About a week later/ last Wednesday I noticed that my top button on my old IPhone 4s stopped working. I am wondering if since I was sent a defective phone and my old phone was still in perfect shape when the defective phone was received will I get $200? Or am I just out of luck?
    Thank you

  • $200 Trade In Gift Card Offer with Verizon Edge

I was informed by two Best Buy associates that I could trade in any working smartphone for a $200 gift card that could be applied toward a purchase of a Galaxy S5 or a Note 4.  Both associates told me that the gift card could be used for a two year contract renewal or the Verizon Edge program.  If I chose to go with Verizon Edge then the gift card and any cash that I wanted to put toward the retail cost of the phone would be applied before the net difference was spread over a 24 month period and would reduce the monthly amount payable to Verizon for the phone cost.  .
I bought a black Note 4 last week and renewed for two years at that time but the Edge program was offered at that time and I was told it would be reduced with the $200 gift card from the trade in.   I went back to my local Best Buy store to return it because they now had a white phone in stock which they did not have last week.  Also, since last week Verizon has also reduced their data plans and I now have a 10GB plan so wold qualify for the $25 discount per phone line instead of $15 with the 6GB plan.   When I went to return the phone I told the representative what I wanted to accomplish and they said it would be no problem to apply the gift card, cash and change to the Edge plan.
When it got to the point to apply the gift card from the return and the cash I had previously paid they told me they could not do that and I would have to either pay the full retail price for the phone or spread the $749.99 cost across 24 months. They showed me on their screen that they did not have the capability to apply the payment.
Why was I told by two other associates that this was possible and was the representative tonight correct in saying it is not possible to apply the reduction.  She did say that if I had bad credit and Verizon required a down payment  that she could then accept a payment to reduce the cost of the phone but becuase I had good credit she could not do so. She then offered to put the price of the phone on a credit card which I would then have to pay monthly.
    Please advise.

    Greetings djcarree,
I realize this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but avm5689 is correct: Best Buy gift cards cannot be applied as payment towards devices on Verizon Edge, AT&T Next, or Sprint Easy Pay plans. To apply any gift card to the purchase of a mobile phone, customers must purchase the device as a traditional upgrade (incurring any applicable activation fees) or as a replacement device at its full retail price. Full details on how Verizon Edge plans work can be found here:
    Common Questions About Verizon EDGE
That said, it's disappointing to read you may have received misinformation regarding available payment options during your initial visit. We rely on our in-store reps to provide accurate and detailed information on our partner's services and our own policies, so it's disconcerting to learn of situations where that expectation may not have been met.
If you're still in need of assistance and have not already done so, I'd encourage you to return to your local store when the have the chance. As I mentioned above, you'll need to re-purchase your Note 4 as either a replacement device or traditional upgrade in order to apply your trade-in gift cards towards the sale. Please also note that mobile phones can only be returned or exchanged within 14 days of the purchase date, and that additional carrier restrictions may apply.

That's possible if he didn't connect to a WiFi hotspot after taking them.  I don't think the "Personal" Photo Stream uploads over Cellular, unless they changed it since the last time I used it.
If that's the case, then the photos likely didn't upload to Photo Stream and are stuck on the phone.
And you're not going to be able to get them back, either.

  • When my iphone 6 plus ships, can I go into verizon and trade it in for the regular iphone 6?

When my iphone 6 plus ships, can I go into verizon and trade it in for the regular iphone 6?

Yes if they have it. You have a 14 day worry free period to do so. You can also call in for exchange but they'll charge you for it until it arrives back at their warehouse and charge falls off.

  • Can the $200 trade in be used for more than one phone?

We have a family plan. Both my husband and I have the iPhone 4S and want to upgrade to the iPhone 6. When a new 2 year plan is initialized, can we both receive $200 trade ins or is it only good for one 4S with a new plan?

smiste, hey that's a great question and I know that if I could I would like everyone I know to take advantage of this deal! The good news is that yes, you would be able to turn in both and receive a giftcard for both just the same, so no worries there. Hope this helps!

  • Question regarding the $200 trade in credit promotion.

    Hello @Jayhrrett
    That’s a great question!
The $200 trade-in credit would be the max given. You can either receive it as an in-store credit towards a purchase or a promotion card.
For more information please visit our AT&T Buyback Program site.
    Thank you,
    Charise

Is the listed $200 credit towards a trade-in on top of the original trade in value of a phone, or the maximum amount?

  • Iphone 6 Trade-in program COMPLETE SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

The trade in program for the Iphone 6 seems to be one of the biggest scams I have ever seen from Verizon.  This is not only coming from personal experience, but from multiple sources of research.  I sent in a PERFECT condition iphone 4S (8GB).  I had the phone powered on the night before I mailed it in order to delete the "find my iphone" function, everything was in perfect working condition.  I got an email just the other day saying they are denying my full $200 refund due to me sending back the wrong phone.  The email stated I selected the 4s 8GB online when filling out the return information (which is correct, because I owned an 8GB 4s), but the email stated i actually sent back in a 16GB 4S that did not power on.  They refunded me $36 for a phone which clearly was not the phone I sent in.  So naturally i call the trade-in hotline, sit on hold for 25+ minutes and speak to a manger named Aaron who told me there is NOTHING he can do.  He also mentioned that they take pictures of the phones in the warehouse, and that in the pictures it CLEARLY SHOWS THE PHONE IS POWERED ON.  What flippin bullsh*t is Verizonplaying at?  Denying my refund saying it doesn't power on, when pictures show IT IS ON.  I literally went round and round with this Aaron and wasted an hour of my life getting nowhere.  He told me he has no power to issue a refund (which is a LIE, mangers do have this power).  My boyfriend had the exact same issue, received a $36 refund saying his screen was broke (when it was actually in perfect condition per the attached pictures on his submission).  The manager he spoke with, someone named Joe, argued with him but in the end issued him a refund for $164, the balance after his $36 refund.  I got nowhere, was told all they can do is escalate my issue.  I have spent the last few days researching this, and I am not alone.  There are so many forums online describing how this trade in program is a complete scam.  It screams CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.  Verizon's warehouse is clearly not tracking phones correctly and denying claims based off of lies.  How can you deny my claim for full refund due to the phone not powering on, when the pictures show the phone ON?!?!?  I HATE Verizon and I should have left years ago.  I honestly would have never upgraded had I known what a terrible program this is.  I even showed my old 4s to a manager at a corporate Verizon store who looked over my phone when I placed my order for the new 6, I'm not stupid enough to send in a broken phone.  Shame on you Verizon.  If I don’t get my refund issued, this is the last straw with Verizon.  I don’t care how much the cancellation fee is, I’d gladly pay it in order to rid myself of this horrible company.  I spoke with a women Named Sheila on sunday who actually told me that I would get a full refund, she told me my phone was in perfect working condition.  She told me it would be issued by today first thing via email.  But of course I never received anything, just another customer service LIE from Verizon.  I told this to Aaron who just kept telling me he couldn't issue me the refund, lies on lies on lies! Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, how did you rectify it?

I am also a victim.  I went through the online process and registered both our IPhone 4's on September 26th.  Somehow Verizon managed to remember to send us the iPhone 6's, yet they forgot that we registered for the rebate.  According to the rebate process which when completed, automatically directed me to the page where I ordered our IPhone 6's, we were going to receive $200 in gift certificates each for our iPhone 4's.  When we received the iPhone 6's, the enclosed documents stated that shipping materials would be sent to us within 5 business days and not to send in the phones until we received the shipping materials.  Amazing that they told us that information in the boxes containing the new phones, but when I call the department at Verizon that is running the rebate program, they can't remember that I went through the rebate process.  I copied down the order numbers for the new iPhones, but they said they needed the numbers that they emailed to me.  I have checked all our email accounts, including the Verizon email account I never use, as well as all the spam folders and I never received such an email.  Now they tell me I can go through the process again, however now it says they will only credit $27 each for the two phones.  No way would I agree to receive only $54, when the site previously stated I would receive $400 in rebates.  So, I guess I will have to wait for the class action lawsuit.  I have been with Verizon for several years, including cable and phone.  Why do they risk my business?  They charge more then anyone, yet I've paid extra to receive the best quality services.  Now I'm thinking I need to take my business elsewhere.   It seems that I am not the only one experiencing similar problems.  I guess Verizon feels the risk of a successful class action is worth the price they would have been obligated to pay to their good customers.  Honestly, if this attitude prevails, they will eventually go down.  People are getting sick of paying the exorbitant rates anyway.  Once they get ripped off like this, they are not going to take it anymore and they will just sign up with their competitors.  I hope everyone floods these websites with complaints.  Maybe, it will scare off some potential new customers.  At least make them pay, in some way.  Make sure you tell all your friends how you were ripped off by Verizon.  Honestly, I expect these complaints will be deleted by Verizon soon.

  • Verizon iPhone Trade In

On 10/31/14 "Dan" from Verizon called me to tell me I could trade in my iphone 4 for $200 if I order the iphone 6 and move from my unlimited data plan to the MORE Everything Plan.  On 11/3 another Verizon rep called me and we initiated the order.  I received the iphone 6 yesterday, 11/11.  Now I understand the $200 trade in ended in mid October and Verizon is not standing behind their sales respresentatives' pitch (lies).  I am a long time Verizon customer and find this atrocious behavior DISTURBING --- to the point that I want to return my new phone and all the accessories to Verizon AT NO EXPENSE TO ME and return to my unlimited data plan.  How do I accomplish this?

Susan you should get authorization before returning under the 14 day policy. Don't let the new phone get lost in the process. Since the offer was made to you may get an offer equal to the expired promotion and be able to keep your new phone. If you do return your new phone and want to get the unlimited data plan back make certain that happens - it's not something readily available to a sales associate to do. Document every interaction with Verizon, date, time, name etc.
I really like my iPhone 6.  I hope Verizon can make things right with you so you can keep it!

  • How do I get the promotional $200 credit for my iphone4s? I ordered an iphone 6 on line. No mention of the promotion.

How do I get the promotional $200 credit for my iphone 4s?  I ordered a ipnone6 online, but there was no mention of the trade-in credit. Do I need to cancel my order and start over with my local Verizon store to get a credit?

No, you can do it online. Go here:
    Verizon
Choose where it says you are purchasing a new device. Go through the appraisal process and answer the questions, it will show you the appraisal value and add the promotional value. I just did it this morning on two phones, as wife and I both had 4's and both got new 6's yesterday. Mine appraised at the 200.00, my wife's at 76.00 - but the back top of her case is cracked. I submitted both online and will receive the shipping materials in app 5 business days, then I have I believe it said 30 days at the latest for them to receive the trade ins. Then we should get our gift cards in 4-5 weeks. I believe you can also take them in to a Verizon store and do the same there as well, if that is your preference.
