Thinkpd Chiclet keyboard wears extremely quickly

Hi there.
I've been using my Thinkpad S440 for about a month now, and I've noticed some significant wear on the keyboard keys, especially keys I use a lot like the space bar. I usually work with clean hands and haven't used it that much, and degrease the keyboard frequently with keyboard degreaser... Anyone else who has this problem? In most situations with a reasonable ammount of natural or especially artificial light, the keyboard looks like it's at least 5 years old... I think this is a very poor design choice. All the things about the new keyboards aside (I think the chiclet keyboard types fine), this is really bothering me.

I bought my 15" macbook pro just a year ago and my battery life runs out extremely quickly. This started maybe a month or two ago. Its hard to tell. I only noticed the rapid change recently. Fully charged it says I have 2:27 (2 hours and 27 minutes) of usage time...with about 50% screen and keyboard brightness.
I've checked inside system preferences and its cycle count is 261 and full charging cap is 6316.
I have apple care...is this something i can/need to take up with apple. You'd think if you pay the price for these machines you should get mroe use out of them.
ONLY A YEAR I'VE HAD THIS!
My PC lasted 4 years before the battery showed signs this dramatic of wear.
Any help is appreciated, im  new mac owner. thanks.

do you have a mbp with dual video cards? running the system with the higher end card increases the heat and also drains batt power.
i have the 1st gen unibody (2008) with an original removable battery of 311 cycles and 4453 charge. under normal use ill be happy to get 1.5hrs. the mac battery counter thing says i have 3.3hrs though (whatever). compared to me, i think you use your battery more than i do, perhaps its the reason why it degraded so fast in a year?

  • Reverse question Can the W530 chiclet keyboard be installed in a W520

    Hello,
I had the opportunity to try out the T530 / W530 chiclet keyboard and really liked it
I have bit of a reverse question
Can a new chiclet type keyboard be installed in a W520 and would the bios have to be changed
    for key mapping etc..
Thanks in advance for your help

It won't fit due to a slightly different surrounding bezel.  And even if it did fit (or you replaced the bezel which would allow it to fit), then BIOS wouldn't support it anyway - key mapping problems.

  • Chiclet Keyboard usage on Toshiba notebooks

Why are chiclet keyboards taking place so much? I don't like the new island-syle for keyboards so, why not to give a double choice (classic keyboard / chiclet keyboard) to consumers?

As far as I know Sony uses such keyboards for the long time and it doesnt look so bad. Design is nice and I love it very much.
We as customers can make decision which product we want to have so you can check different Toshiba notebook models, test it a bit in show rooms and make decision which keyboard is he best for you.

  • Hate chiclet keyboards

Considering purchase of a 700-414 but much prefer classic IBM-type keyboard to chiclet keyboard that comes standard with this system. Does HP sell a wireless classic-type keyboard for use with the 700 series? If not, are non-HP keyboards P&P compatible?
    Thanks!

Since Paul did not have specific suggestions or recommendations,
I will offer a few Buying Hints ... from my recent keyboard upgrades (and frustrations) over the past 2 years.
    1. Wireless keyboards (currently sold) can be grouped into 2 categories:
Bluetooth compliant and 2.4 GHz proprietary wireless.
    2. Bluetooth compliant Keyboards and Mice are largely targeted for Laptop and Tablet (largely Android) usage.
The selection of models is limited for Desktop Bluetooth keyboards.
Since both of my desktops are Bluetooth 4.0 capable, this was a great disappointment.
    3. Proprietary Wireless (2.4 GHz) are largely provided by HP and Logitech (Unify).
I have NOT found the 2 company solutions to be interoperable.  :-(
    4. HP has not "Branded" its Wireless keyboard/mouse technology, and there is little documentation about the solution or its interoperability with other HP keyboards..
    5. Logitech brands their wireless keyboard/mouse solution: Unify

    Logitech Unify Keyboards

    ====
I use the HP SK-2885 USB keyboard (wired) and a Logitech M-510 wireless mouse on both of my home office computers.
The mouse requires the Unifying Receiver (USB dongle) to be inserted into a spare USB 2.0 port.
I have kept the wired keyboard, for the ability to bring up UEFI (F2) at power up, when I desire.
I have an old Logitech Click! wireless mouse that I love --
BUT it is not Unify compliant.  It requires its own proprietary USB receiver for operation.
    SO, it is now retired.
Still keeping an eye open for a wireless keyboard -- BUT have not found one that I like.
At this point, it would need to be either Unify or Bluetooth compliant

  • In Win 7 on Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000's quick-launch keys, Firefox & Thunderbird launch only in Taskbar, without opening program, then unfocused

Although these quick-launch keys on this keyboard worked fine on this computer when running Windows XP, when I switched to Windows 7 64-bit they started to have this problem, but only with Firefox & Thunderbird. And if I program these keys to open other programs, they don't have the problem. So it's some compatibility thing between Firefox/Thunderbird, Win7 64-bit, and this keyboard's software (latest version).
When I press one of the quick-launch keys on this keyboard programmed for Firefox/Thunderbird, they display a program rectangle in the Taskbar only, but no program opens on the screen. When I hover the mouse over this rectangle on the Taskbar, the program immediately opens, but out of focus.
I've also tried resetting Firefox, but that doesn't change the behavior at all.

The window that is focused is whatever the previous one opened was. If Firefox or Thunderbird are launched with no other windows open, nothing is focused.
After working with Microsoft's tech support on this problem over the phone, and replacing the keyboard driver & software with the one called Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard (both this and the one I had used are shown as the current drivers on Microsoft's 4000 Keyboard download page), nothing changed. Then I worked on the computer for a while, and the problem suddenly went away.
The only remaining problem is that Thunderbird doesn't search for mail right away when I open it. This is true regardless of how I open it (from the keyboard quick launch key, from the start menu, from a shortcut, etc.). Perhaps this is a totally different problem.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Letters on Keyboard wearing off

I have an iBook G4 with a british keyboard. i've only had this machine for a matter of months and already the letters on a few of the keys are starting to wear off!! is there anywhere were i could cheaply order a few keys?
in particular i need an "a", "s" and "n". if it is possible to get custom keys made, i'd like a #/€ key (as i remap the chapter/plusminus key to that).

    Hey Sam,
im having the very same problem even though iv only had my ibook g4 for just under 5 months. i believe that puts me still under the 1 year warrenty for the computer itself. will they still replace the keyboard if this is the case. if they decide not to do so. i was wondering if anyone here new the part number for the keyboard that is easly installed on the g4 ibooks. if anyone here knows anything on the matter please feel free to email me on this.
as most people can see, i also have a power mac g5 desktop, otherwise called a cheese grader. if you know what i mean. theres very little i dont like apples computers. thats probally why everything in my house is mac related. having 3 ipods, 1 g4 ibook, a power mac g5, isight cam, and lots more. the point here is in the event people are trying to decide what kind of coomputer there wanting to buy. several things need to be considered before you should go out and buy one. obviously price has alot to do with your choice, but in that decision you must also consider whether or not the computer has teachnical type issues. is the company well known for having lots of problems. will you be able to get the technical support you need in the event there is some major problem with the computer that you may be inquiring on. having the apple care protection plan on all of apple's top computers is the single one thing that people dont think about when buying a new brand name computer. i cant tell people enough that buying this apple care plan is vital to the survival of you and your new computer. an extra $200-$400 is well worth the expense down the line.

  • Recently update iOS 7 on iPhone 5c. now the keyboard is extremely SLOW!! SO frustrating.  Help?

does anyone know how to fix a slow keyboard problem on the 5c?

Delete background apps from memory and Reset. Press home button twice quickly, then slide all the window panes upwards to delete from memory. Then Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone begins to restart itself.

  • Ipad battery wears down quickly.  how do I fix this?

the battery wears down very quickly.  how do I fix this?

There isnt really a way of "fixing" it, everybody has it. There are things you could do to make the battery last a bit longer.
    1. Turn of bleutooth, this needs ALOT of battery and is on all the time if you have turned it on
    2. Lower the brightness
    3. Close Applications properly, if you double click the home button (the only button on the ipad) and get the multitasking tab, hold your finger on one of the apps and press the red button with a white -, this will close COMPLETELY the App, and stops running it on the background. (doesnt delet any saved things etc.... )
    4. When you charge your battery, charge it from under the 10% to 100% not half-way etc..., there is a way you could "train" your battery's and by charging it from 0 to 100 you could say your battery gets better.

  • Keyboard - Wear and Tear

    Hi all
Have a small problem with my keyboard.
Because my fingers and thumbs are on the large side, I tend to use my fingernails to press the keys - I much prefer the actual keyboard to the virtual one.
Anyhow the other day when the keyboard light came on, I noticed a rather large whight light in the centre of the space-bar.
Basically some of the surface paint on the key has been scratched off by my fingernail
I could perhaps "paint" it matt black with a tiny brush but wonder whether the purchase of another keyboard would be possible?  If so how would I replace it? - I presume replacement keys are not possible?
I love my N900 but the keyboard is not so nice with this white blotch on it every time the keyboard is open with the light on.
Anyone else with this "scratch problem"?  I've searched but so far it seems there has been no thread on the subject.  For now I'm reverting to the virtual keyboard, so I don't have to look at it lol!
    Would appreciate some practical help
    TIA
    roz

depends on what country you are in.
if you are in the US,  then scratch the warranty and sending it to them.   you will be without a phone for two-four weeks.
i would do one of these two things.
get a permenant black marker and touch it up periodically
    or
get a kb on ebay....you would have to purchasem a full kit most likely, then do a seach for the disassembly guide for nokia n900.
    dissasembly is not that difficult.
personnally i would lean toward just using a marker, because while you can pucharse housings, the screws are known to breack off at the head....which would be a worse problem.
    hope that helps.

  • Chiclet keyboard malfunction

    Hey,
I just bought myself a brand new T530 (2 weeks old) and I'm nothing but happy ... up until half an hour ago when a keyboard button came off while typing - just like that. I paid more than 2 grand and this is the quality I get?! FYI, I already got a R400 with keyboard problems. So what is it with Lenovo and the miserable keyboards?!
Anyways, what is the _fastest_ way of getting a new button since this one seems to be broken ever since (one clip on the bottom is missing). And why is the support page down?!
    Any constructive input is appreciated.
P.S.: Sorry for my slightly p.o.'d tone - but I am really ....

Call customer service and order a new keyboard. It is simple to replace. In the meantime use an external keyboard.
Expect to stay on hold foe a few hours and then get some promises which may or may not be upheld.
The support page isn't down - it is just in one of the cyclical "really slow" times that's been going since mid 2009. Wait 'til Win8 is released to see the site crash.

  • I updated my 4s and now my battery drains extremely quick!!!!!!

I Updated my 4s yesterday and now my battery is draining so quickly that it is very frustrating.

Sounds as if something damaged the phone and could possibly be shorting out the battery. Try to get a backup of the device as soon as possible and make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have the hardware examined.

  • So what do you think of the new Chiclet keyboard?

From seing pictures I miss the blue enter button. I haven't tried it out yet, has anyone had any physical experience?

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard Battery drains extremely fast?

I bought my iMac in Sept 2011.
It came with the Apple bluetooth keyboard.
But it has been draining battery extremely quickly since the past 3-4 months!
It began when I noticed I need to change my AA alkaline batteries once a week, without shutting off the keyboard.
Then laterI knew it'll cost me a fortune doing so, so I bought the apple rechargable batteries instead.
After using the rechargable batteries, I need to change batteries once every few days, and I have to turn off the keyboard while I am away.
But for the past few weeks, it's been worse!
Like for the past 5 days, I need to change batteries once a day! And I have turned off the keyboard like 14 hours a day while I'm not home!
Is there any other user having the same problem as me?
Some help me solve this battery problem!

Just found this. Sounds similar to my problem except it is the keyboard and not the mouse:
Recently my late 2009 iMac i7 has started making a rapid beeping noise and the mouse goes crazy. When you pass the mouse pointer over the top menu the menu items look like they are being rapidly selection from left to right. If you press the mouse (Magic Mouse) the noise and rapid selections will stop until you let go of the mouse. If you can manage to reboot the computer, this activity may or may not stop. Turning off the mouse and/or keyboard (both wireless) does not seem to stop the problem.
I have nothing to indicate whether this is related or not but this has started happening since Vmware Fusion just pushed out an update a few days ago. Once could almost describe the behavior as if the Tab or some other key on the keyboard is stuck. However, it's not. Or, at least it does not appear to be. I am using one of the older White Apple Bluetooth keyboards.
Any clues would be most appreciated.
