Time Capsule no longer works after unplugged and plugged back in

See if you can follow this.
When i first got the time capsule about 2 months ago i had problems right off the bat. I changed the WEP to a WPA, plugged the time capsule into the router instead of going wirelessly and used it to extend the network. After several time of reseting the capsule, changing settings and passwords, and waiting several minutes for the airport utility to say it could not connect i finally got it to work.
Now, the other day i went to move my desktop to another outlet, so everything was unplugged via the surge protector, for about 5 minutes then plugged back in. Now the capsule no longer works. I was getting the same messages as two months ago, as if everything was reset in turning it off for a minute. I went through the same processes as last time to get it to work, but not this time. After waiting at the airport page for a few minutes it says that internet connection is the issue. Now the capsule is about 1 foot away from the router and plugged in, and i have internet connection to the desktop and my macbook pro.
Does anyone have any ideas, omitting the stupid suggestions web pages tend to give, such as is it plugged in? is it turned on?
Help is GREATLY appreciated.

"plugged the time capsule into the router' try bridge mode and also configure its wireless setting

I have upgraded to mavericks and my time capusle no longer back up. Will Apple be sending out a fix. Forums show lots of apple apologists trying various work arounds and some losing data.   When will Apple be sending out a fix.
First Mail was crashing and with the new fix finally Mail is working ... when can we expect the fix for TC and mavericks.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message that corresponds to an abnormal backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showning, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.

Yes, it's possible that anything stops working at some point. Here is the support start page - you can read through the stuff and/or contact support:

    Hi Jim,
Could be a few things, but first...
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAA36VPRAM/
Another common one is bad Capacitors in mostly the PSU, that need to bleed off charges before things work right.

  • Why is my extreme losing power while plugged into the wall?  I have to unplug and plug back in.

My extreme loses electric power while plugged in.  I have to unplug and plug back in.  This has happend 2 times in 1 week.

It might help to clarify the conversation here, if we knew what version of the AirPort Extreme that you were using.
Do you have the newer "tower" version of the AirPort, which uses a regular AC power cord......or......do you have a previous model that is "flat or square" shaped, that utilizes both an AC power cord and a separate, outboard power supply that plugs into the AirPort Extreme?
Approximately, how old is the AirPort Extreme?  If you could look on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme. then locate and post back with the model number of your AirPort, we'll know even more.  The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.

  • Time capsule no longer working

My time capsule has stopped working entirely.  No longer can use it for my network and it no longer backs up.  My mac book does not even recognize it. any suggestions or is it fried?

Does "no longer working" mean that the Time Capsule will not power up at all?
If the Time Capsule will power up, please describe the indicator light on the front panel.....green, flashing amber, solid amber, etc.

  • My Time Capsule has stopped working after I tried to configure an extended wifi network

My Time Capsule was working fine until I tried to configure it with an extended bridge. Now either the amber light is solid or the solid amber comes on for awhile and then goes completely out.
The AirPort Utility says that there is no internet connection, the DNS settings are wrong, and that the disk need to be repaired. Using Disk Utility, the Time Capsule does not even show up so that I can repair it.
I am running OSX 10.7.5, and besides the Time Capsule I have a Vonage Motorola (VT2442-VD) for VOIP, which of course is not working because it was connected behind the Time Capsule.
I'm in Italy and cannot call Apple directly since I now do not have phone service.
Any suggestions how I can check/repair the Time Capsule, and then configure it properly to my satellite broadband?
    Thanks for you help.

How old is the TC?? The LED should never go solid amber.. that indicates disk failure.
Or completely out.. that indicates power supply failure.
As a note you cannot extend wireless to a non apple wireless router... you can only plug in by ethernet and use the TC to create a wireless network.. this can have the same name as the main router,, same SSID in other words and same security but set to different channel..

  • Loaded Mountain Lion and time capsule no longer works, airport utility can't be configured, back ups have stopped, sparse bundle in use errors occur, what a mess!!!!

Should Airport Utility now be defunct for my time capsule because I have upgraded OS to Mountain Lion? I have tried every fix I can think of but AU will not set up. I'm also getting repeated time machine back up failures and now I have a new "sparsebundleinuse" error which is totally useless to me, I have no idea what a sparse bundle is, I have no idea what it's suddenly being used by and there's no information to say what to do about it. Apple is killing me here!!!

I've tried to but on the install for Airport Utility 6, after the download I get through the introduction then the license then I get "airport utility can't be installed on this disk. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported" and that's it, no more options!?

  • New ISP, Time Capsule No Longer Works - help!

OK, today, I changed ISP with a new router.
Everything was going OK, all iOS devices, all wi-fi printers, Apple TV, and Airport Express all connected and worked fine.  The only issue is my Time Capsule. I just can't get it to work.
It was setup to 'Join An Existing Wi-fi Network' and everything used to be fine with my TM backups going to it.
Now, Airport Utility (6.2) won't see it at all over wi-fi, and if I connect to the router via ethernet, AU sees it.  I tried to change the configuration, but there is no 'Connect to an Existing Wi-fi network' available, just 'create new' or 'extend existing'.
Even if I try either of these options, it doesn't work. After a couple of minutes, I get a 'an error occurred when trying to update the configuration' message.
I have tried holding in the reset button, but to no avail.
Can anyone help?  I'm on 10.8, by the way.

Join a wireless network is not in v6 utility.. thanks so much apple.. you are a great help.
Mind you .. we do not recommend at any time using "join a wireless network".. it is slow and likely to cause issues at some point with corrupting the backup.
The best idea is to install v5.6 utility on your Mac.. this can be done.. google for various methods.. here is mine which is free.. others use a tool you have to pay for.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4668746?tstart=0
If you want to do the job correctly though.. start from a factory reset.
To do this hold in reset button and then power on.. keep holding in reset without releasing for about 10sec until the front led flashes rapidly.
Do all setups using ethernet. I recommend you bridge the TC and use roaming setup for wireless. It works very well.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260
Even if you mix with a non-apple router, you simply create a wireless network on the TC.
Exactly the same name (SSID) as the main router .. same security WPA2 Personal = WPA2 AES and is the only suitable security nowadays.
Same password for wireless. 8-12 characters is enough .. up to 20 if paranoid. pure alphanumeric.
The only thing different is wireless channels. Set them both to auto may work or maybe chaos.
At 2.4ghz there are only three non-overlapping channels.. make sure the main router is set to 20mhz only.. and use one of the channels, 1, 6, 11. Then set the TC to one remaining.
5ghz in the TC use lower channels.. 36, 38, 40 etc work much better than 150's
So in your real utility it looks like this.

  • Conexant Audio Speakers No Longer Working After Unplugging Headphones - X301

    Hello,
I plugged in some headphones via the jack for the first time after owning my X301 for 2 months.  Ever since then, the laptop speakers stopped working!!!  If I want to hear anything, I now have to listen via my headphones.  The beeping I used to hear when I plug/unplug the AC adapter is gone, too.  I have Vista/32 Home Premium.
Here is what I tried so far:
-Pressed the mute/unmute button on the keyboard.
-Adjusted the volume via the keyboard and from the Conexant icons in the taskbar.
-Disabled/enabled the speaker and (and the microphone too) from the Conexant menus.
-Disabled and enabled the Conexant sound hardware from the Vista Device Manager.
-Updated the Conexant Audio Drivers from 4.92.5 to 4.92.7.0 and then back to 4.92.5 (rebooted).
-Enabled and disabled the beep options within the BIOS.
I have noticed when sound is playing, the Conexant software visually indicates (via the green bar) for the speaker, but of course no sound comes from the speaker!  Lenovo tech support wants me to do a recovery or send the laptop in!  Help!

Double posting because this seems to be a solution
Ignore my last post (or switch back to CLASSIC in the 3rd tab)! Might be wrong here but I think the mother jack (the one from the laptop) has a small contact pin to tell it if a jack is plugged in or not and that can get bent or something like that and tell the system the headphones are always plugged in. I got my speakers back by repeatetly plugging in and out the headphones jack with a little angle to the action, It just came back..
Just tried the same trick on a DELL mini and it didn't work... hope it does for you

  • Time Machine no longer working after reinstalling OSX 10.5 w/TM backup

About a week ago Disc Utility told me I had serious problems with my HD structure and a reinstall was necessary. Fortunately, restoring everything using Time Machine was flawless, however Time Machine has not done a single backup since. The Backup.backupdb file is still there on the external drive, along with 6 other folders created at the time I did the reinstall (same names as the 6 inside the subfolder, system, library, users...). If I try to manually do a TM backup it tells me I don't have enough HD space as though it wants to start from scratch, when the folders are all still there from before the reinstall.
Any ideas why Time Machine no longer recognizes the files it created 2 weeks ago?

I had to reinstall Leopard and restore using TM. It also worked flawless for me. When I checked to see if it was backing up again, there was nothing. I also tried to manually back and that didn't work either. I went into System Preferences, Time Machine and had to choose my TM backup drive again. Once I did that it worked perfect.

  • Two Time capsules that  stopped working after 12 months

2 years ago I bought 2 time capsules(2 TB). I used the first for 12 months and was very happy until it just stopped working suddenly. I couldn't turn it on at all. I then started using the second Time Capsule that had never been taken out of the box. Now 12 months later exactly the same thing has occurred to this second Time Capsule.
Any tips to stop this happening again would be gratefully received.

  • Time Machine no longer working after 10.5.6 update

i have a late 2008 mac book pro. the 10.5.6 update was the 1st big OS X update i did.
all went well apart from Time Machine,
1st problem Time Machine always try's to back up even when i'm not at home where my Time Capsule is.
2nd problem Time Machine cant complete a back up even thought it says its backup 10gb of 10gb is complete it never finishes the back up
any one else having the same problem. and have a fix to sort this out

I have the exact same problem since upgrading to 10.5.6. The time machine arrows start spinning, and then stop with the exclamation point. I look at the dropdown and it says "Latest Backup: Delayed"
When I open Time Machine Preferences, it tells me I have 32.2 GB of 232.7 GB available. And in latest backup, it says "Failed" with the little "i" in the circle. When I click the "i" it tells me "The backup volume could not be mounted."
When I actually look at the contents of the drive (which definitely is mounted) I see a 200GB file (the correct size) named [name of my computer]_[some serial number].sparsebundle. The stuff in brackets is replaced since I don't know if that's the sort of thing that I should post.
What seems odd (although I haven't looked at the volume enough in the past to know if it is odd), is that both the modified date and the creation date are March 27, 2008 which, I believe, is when I first started using time machine.
The only other thing on that drive is a folder, "untitled folder"
That's it. I'm not sure about whether it's trying to backup when not connected, but I think I remember that.
Do these specifics fit with what you can see about the current state of your backup?

  • HP 4600 connected to time capsule is NOT working after SL

As a background, I connect my HP Laserjet 4600 to my Time Capsule using ethernet. From my macbook connected via Airport to the Time Capsule created network, I was able to print.
However, once I upgraded to SL, despite adding the correct printer in the print dialogue, it does not work anymore. From the print queue it says "Network host XXX is busy,...." XXX is the hostname of the printer.
    Please HELP!
