Time dimension member selection via MDX

Hello everybody.
I'm working with SAP BW via XMLA-interface and select members of standard dimension with select expressions like this one:
SELECT [GPTU_CA].Members DIMENSION PROPERTIES [GPTU_CA].[2CA_NAM], [GPTU_CA].[1CA_INN] ON 0 FROM [$GPTU_CA]
where GPTU_CA is dimension.
So, I want to know how to get members of time dimension via MDX. How can I do it?

Problem solved. The method getMemberData() is what ia needed.

  • Deleting comments for multiple dimension member selection

    Hi all,
When using the package (using /CPMB/CLEAR) to delete data and comments (TASK(/CPMB/CLEAR_COMMENTS_FOR_CLEAR,ENABLETASK,1)), there seems to be a problem to delete comments when using a multiple member selection. When selecting <all> or a single dimension member for a given dimension, data and comments are effectively deleted. However, when selecting eg 2 members, the data is deleted, but the comments remain in the comment tables. Any ideas on how to solve this, without running the package x-times when comments on x members need to be deleted?
    Kind Regards,
    Christophe

    Hi,
I don't know whether your question is answered or not . Please look into the following which may be helpful to you.
As far as i know u can
    1. Delete Comments selecting " ALL" member selection.
    2. Delete comment selecting " SINGLE MEMBER "  --> _Multiple member selection is not supported in NW._
Please look into the following SAP Note on this which may be useful to convince the client:

  • EVDRE - Dimension Member Selection in Template

    Hi,
I'm working on an input schedule which has fixed rows and column structure.
    Rows structure is:
Material - fixed set of materials
    Supplier - dynamically selectable
Requirement is ... users want to have a drop down list in every row to select Supplier, from available list, for every material. Considering there will be 1-1 relation between material and supplier.
    My questions are:
    - Is it possible to select dimension members (suppliers) through drop down list in the input schedule?
    - how can we get dimension members displayed in the drop down list?
    Would appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Shabbar

    Hi,
Since you said that the structure is quite static in nature, you can keep drop down for the supplier using native excel's data validation. In some hidden cells, place all the suppliers, you want to. In the input schedule, in the cells where you want your drop down, create data validation as list and refer to the cells having the predefined values for suppliers.
    Hope this helps.

  • BB Torch (unlocked). Cant setup email (times out when selected) via Virgin Mobile

    Hi Everyone
    I have a BB Torch 9800.
It was originally registered on the Rogers network, and everything worked fine.
I recently unlocked the phone, and switched to Virgin (ie new SIM card), including a data plan.
Im not able to setup an email account now.
When I go into Setup->Email Accounts->Internet Mail Account, it says "Check for updates'.
After a couple minutes it will timeout saying it can't connect.
In searching the fourms, I came across Host Routing Table settings. My HRT has  "* No entries *'. I have "Register Now", which tells me the Registration message was sent, however I havent had a response back.
Im also wondering if this phone is still "registered" with Rogers somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

My providor is Virgin Mobile in Ontario, Canada. A quick web search seemed to indivate they support this BB, but IM not positive. So it coul just be thats the issue.
From what I can see in the official Download Portal, Virgin Mobile Canada indeed does support the 9800...you can double check here:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html
If a carrier lists an OS package for a specific BB model number, then the carrier supports that model, and everything should be fine.
But, that is step 5...what about the things included in steps 1 through 4? Those, of course, are all steps...requiring the success of a prior step before considering proceeding to the next step. So, for instance, if your voice services aren't yet working from Virgin, then you should not even be thinking yet about getting data to work.
    As to your questions:
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Do I request this through my BB?
Normally, I suggest the following steps, in order (again requiring success before proceeding), even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Unfortunately, we already know that your BB fails on step 1 here (register HRT)...which then precludes moving on to step 2. Which leads me back to the prior steps...did steps 1 through 4 all result positively?
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Would the providor do this for me automaticall?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no...when in doubt, the steps above are the way to force it.
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Would I request the providor to do this?
If it does not work with what is above, then the next logical step would be to contact the carrier for formal assistance...after all, it's their network with which you are attempting to get your BB to communicate.
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Do I login into BB to do this (ie I found this link https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html which I tried logging into, but it says my device isnt registered on the network. It told me to setup my Host Routing Tabels to fix that, which I tried, but hasnt worked yet).
There is more than one way to accomplish many of these things. But, until your BB properly registers to the carrier network (HRT), attempting to go any further is pointless.
With all of that, we're back to steps 1 through 4 of what I previously sent...if those are not completed properly, then nothing else will be useful.
    Good luck!

  • Change description of dimension member based on selection in other dimension

    Problem
Let’s say that I have two dimensions Dim Account and Dim Company.
Dim Account consists of Account and Account Description. Each Account has one description for each Company.
I want the description in Dim Account be based on which Company that is selected.
So if Company 1 is selected the description should be set to Account_Company1_Desc if Company2 is selected Account_Company2_Desc should be selected and so on…
If more than one company is selected, the Account_General_Desc should be used.
I would be very grateful if anyone has
an idea of how this problem could be solved.
    Best Regards
    AL

    Hi AL_T,
According to your description, you want to have the description show general_desc when selection multiple companies. Right?
In this scenario, since each company has one description, we should already build the relationship between company and company_desc. However, in Analysis Services, it's not supported to apply MDX expression to make a relationship dynamically. And we
can't make it show different members of a dim based on number of another dimension member selection in query. So your requirement can't be achieved currently.

  • OWB 904 - problems creating time dimension

I'm using Oracle9iR2 DB and OWB 904. I have not much experience with OWB 904 yet and problems with creating the time dimension.
I tried to figure out the example which comes with OWB 904 and did everything as it is written in the readme.txt file:
    1. loaded the time table functions owb_time_seq.sql and owb_time.sql in my runtime user schema
    2. imported the owb_bp_time.mdl file into my design repository, which created the demo project 'OWB_BP'
The problems which I have with this demo are:
1.) I get warnings when I validate the mappings (TF_TIME_MAP):
VLD-1002: Mapping object T_TIME is not bound to a repository object.
VLD-1004: Column length of L_DAY_NAME is longer than the target column length.
VLD-1004: Column length of L_MONTH_NAME is longer than the target column length.
VLD-1004: Column length of L_QUARTER_NAME is longer than the target column length.
VLD-1004: Column length of L_YEAR_NAME is longer than the target column length.
VLD-3260: No Output Attribute name is specified. In this case, the attribute’s physical name will be used.
VLD-1123: Missing location information for Module WAREHOUSE.
VLD-1115: Commit frequency is defaulted to Bulk Size.
I know how to solve the errors VLD-1002, VLD-1004, VLD-1123 and VLD-1115 but I have no idea how I should solve VLD-3260 and VLD-1002, because reconcile outbound is not possible for the T_TIME dimension.
2.) When I try to import the table function
TIMEDATA (IN VARCHAR2, IN NUMBER) return TABLE
from the runtime user schema into my design repository I get the error message: Argument Data type is not supported.
    3.) I cant deploy the mapping TF_TIME_MAP.
Is it possible to use the table function from the demo to create a time dimension and to import it into my own project? My aim is to create a bean compliant time dimension and I want to know what I have to bear in mind to accomplish that. The OWB904UsersGuide didn't give me enough information, therefore I'm asking if you can help me out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk

    Dirk,
The way you should approach the time dimension is following:
    - Run the SQL scripts into your target schema (you already did).
    - Import the MDL file (you already did).
    - Copy and paste the times dimension into your own project to be able to use it.
    - Copy and paste the mapping you want to use to your own project.
    - If necessary, modify the times dimension according to your needs; change the mapping accordingly.
    - Open the mapping, do a right mouse click on the time dimension and select 'Reconcile inbound'. Select matching strategy to match by bound name.
We do not currently support the table function as an object in the metadata repository. I.e. if it exists at runtime then you can call it (as the time dimension load mappings do).
With the objects in the target schema you should be able to deploy the mapping.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Macro help on selectin crieteria with time dimension to the user

    Hi Experts,
I have some Macro requirement in my input schedule.
We are preparing Head Count Planning report and the time dimension is selected for next five years and category is Budget.
Now user wants to select only on year wise and then the report needs to be refreshed with the selected year (Example selected budget year is 2015).
I have heard that it can be achieved through Macro. Can some one please provide a piece of Macro sample so that I can make the changes according to my requirement.
Please see the below report format (Time Dimension details).

    Hi Satish,
What macro are you talking about?
If it's symmetric report then you use context to select YYYY.TOTAL and expand to base members.
If it's asymmetric report then use: Static report in BPC NW 10
"Now user wants to select only on year wise and then the report needs to be refreshed with the selected year (Example selected budget year is 2015)."
If you want to have report for 5 years and the user select first year with context - then Static report in BPC NW 10
You have to generate TIME members by Excel formula:
    Example:
in A10 you have formula =EPMContextMember("ConnName";"TIME"), resulting in 2015.01
Then in column axis you can use LEFT($A$10,4)&".02", LEFT($A$10,4)&".03" etc. for the first year
    LEFT($A$10,4)+1&".02",... for the second year

  • Additional custom level on Time dimension ?

    Hi,
I´m very new to OWB, so I don't know if what I want to do is even possible at all.
I created a time dimension using the "Time Dimension Wizard", selecting all possible levels (year, quarter, month, day), but I also need to have one extra level: semester. You see, we need that level for our reports.
I tried to open the mappings that were generated automatically but Oh, boy! does that look complicated!!! Some operators call time functions but when looking them up, they're in packages that come wrapped, so basically I have no clue as to how the data is being generated by Oracle.
Do you know of any way to accomplish this? Basically have a time dimension with the levels:
    Year -> Semester -> Quarter -> Month -> Day
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Rgds,

    [osantos]

    Hi JP,
    Thanks for the tip.
I created a new "time" dimension manually. I basically made a copy of the attributes and levels of a normal time dimension, plus the new fields for "semester". I also defined the corresponding fields for "END DATE" and "TIME SPAN".
Now, I can populate this dimension, based on a script that someone else posted in this forum. I'm not sure, though, that Oracle OLAP will recognize this as a "time" dimension, will it? I mean, OWB adds some extra fields for a time dimension created with the wizard (like "level type"). Will this affect the performance or behavior of my cubes? Or, can I say that this is as real a time dimension as one created with the wizard in OWB?
Again, thanks a lot for your support.

  • MDX: Selecting specific dimension member and its descendants from parent child dimension where dimension member names can be same in dimension hierarchy

I'm creating a SSRS report using SSAS cube as a source.
When creating a dataset for the report, I'm having trouble with MDX to select a specific dimension member and its descendants from parent child dimension where dimension member names can be same in dimension hierarchy.
Lets say for example that I have an account dimension where,
    In level 02 I have company ID:s 101, 102, 103 and so on...
In level 03 I have Balance sheet
In level 04 I have some account groups, Assets, Liabilities and so on... and In level 05 I have individual accounts
How can I select for example company 102:s Assets from level 04 and its descendants?
Normally in adventure works I would do this if I've wanted Current Assets and its descendants:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Amount] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY
    { (DESCENDANTS([Account].[Accounts].[Account Level 03].[Current Assets]) ) } ON ROWS
    FROM [Adventure Works]
But in my Account dimension at level 04 I have Assets member as many times as I have companies in level 02.

To this requirement of yours, I would recommend you use Cascading Parameters in Reporting services, you can refer to this FAQ How do I create cascading parameters when using cube database in Reporting Services at this link

  • MDX select dimension member by name

Hi, I run this query no problem in SSMS.
select [Measures].[Promo sold value] on columns
    , [Promotions].[Promotion].&[1922] on rows

But I got nothing when I replace the key 1922 with the name of the member :
select [Measures].[Promo sold value] on columns

What's the correct way to do this?

you need to use STRTOSET function for that

  • Is it possible to add an all time member to the time dimension

We are on BPC 7.  Our time dimension has the normal Year, Quarter, Month rollup.
Is it possible to add an "All_time" member to the time dimension that would have all years rolling up to it or are our only choices Year, Halfyear, Quarter, Month, Week, or Day?

TOTAL is not a valid selection for LEVEL.  Did you create this "TOTAL" manually some how?  I have seen "TOTAL" as a period but never a level.  Do you have a dimension file that you can get to work with this example in APPSHELL that you could share?
According to the BPC Admin documentation it only comes with YEAR, HALFYEAR, QUARTER, MONTH, WEEK, DAY as valid options.  How do you get the TOTAL member added as a valid option for the LEVEL property:
    BPC Documentation Reference below:
    LEVEL
Time can be a year, quarter, month, week or day. As described above, the PARENTH1 property is used to define the aggregation of the time periods.
The LEVEL property is also very important in defining your time periods. You must have the correct Level (Year, quarter, month, etc.) for each member. You must follow the chronological format throughout the Time dimension. The correct format is:
    ·        YEAR
    ·        HALFYEAR
    ·        QUARTER
    ·        MONTH
    ·        WEEK
    ·        DAY

  • Error selecting a dimension member in BPC EPM report - The given key was not present in the dictionary

    Hi,

When I edit my report in EPM Add-in Excel , and I try to select the dimension members for a selected dimension member, I get the following error.
"The given key was not present in the dictionary"
Any assistance to help resolve the problem will be appreciated.

    Hi Shrikant,
I had a look at MBR_SEQ , it is a attribute on the dimension member in BW , this relates to a past version of BPC 7.5. We are currently on BPC 10.1 Embedded model , and the MBR_SEQ does not exist on any of the characteristics I have in my info cube.
When I create a web report I am able to access the dimension members using the select dimensions options, the problem seems to be on the EPM Add-in Excel client only.

  • How can I modify Time dimension to create a Top member above year members ?

    Hi experts,
I would like to modify Time dimension to add a Top member above year members.
    I already did a test:
I added a member in Time dimension which is the parent of all year members. I granted it these property values:
    - ID = TOTAL
    - EVDESCRIPTION = Total
    - LEVEL = TOTAL
    - HLEVEL = 1 (and I added 1 to all the other members)
    - TIMEID = 10000001
All other properties were left blank for this member.
I processed the dimension. It went well. But when I tried an evdre in BPC excel it failed.
Any idea of something missing ?
I am working on SAP BPC MS 7 SP4
    Thanks for your help
    Ludovic

    Hi Petar,
Thanks for your answer. No doubt that we could solve the issue using on of the way you suggested.
However, even though I had the evdre issue right after applying time dimension modifications, it occurs that the evdre issue was not due to time dimension modifications. I tested it better and I can tell that using "total" as a level works.
