Timeline Editing Issues

I have an existing project that allows me to edit state to state transitions in the timeline, but once I navigate to another state (or anywhere else for that matter), all of the editing I just did gets erased and it goes back to the last known transition sequence.  It also seems my project is not being saved when I try to save it.   It was working properly for awhile.  Help

Ty, thanks for the quick answer.  It seems a more accurate description is as follows:
When you run the project, you will see I have a number of radio buttons grouped as a custom component.  When you go into it, here is a following example:
For the amBrakesStart to brakesStart transition of the custom component, I want to remove all "move" transitions.  I can do this, but when I go out of it and come back in, they reappear.  Also, the preview button shows that the transition from  amBrakesStart to brakesStart works properly (even if I do not erase the move transitions), but when I run it in the browser, something funky happens.  Some of the text and radio buttons move when they should just fade out as in the preview.  This is only one example, but it applies throught the project.  I did notice that when I add a new button that any subsequent transitions for the new button seems to take.  Thanks, Don/monkamoo.com

    Why iCal "cancel of event edits" issue is still not fixed after over 2 years?
    I have been in the software engineering industry for over 14 years, but I have never seen a large corporation being so slow at addressing major issues like these.
    What would it take for Apple to start working on this issue?

    Yup. This is fully ridiculous that you can't cancel your updates once you start. I love the tool but this is on pretty significant issue.
    Sometimes I accidentally move a mtg or make some edit while viewing and you can't back you!!
    If you feel the same way, you should post a note here:

  • Citrix Netscaler AppXpert with Sharepoint 2010 Page Edit Issue

    Posting this as a questions and discussion point.
    The issue is in using Citrix Netscaler with AppXpert with SharePoint 2010. I've seen this issue for two customers.
    Configurations:
    - Citrix Netscaler as the load Balancer
    - Netscaler AppXpert for SharePoint deployed on Netscaler (using either AppXpert version 1.1 or 2.0)
    - SharePoint 2010 Standard or Enterprise editions
    Issue:
    A SharePoint user with appropriate rights go to a SharePoint page. They choose Edit page, make changes and want to save changes. At this point all SharePoint ribbon options on the top are greyed out. End result, users are not able to make changes to their
    site pages. Issue happens for everyone including Farm Admins.
    Cases:
    a. The users are able to edit and save SharePoint wiki pages if I point user's PC to the SharePoint web server WFE by changing their local host file.
    b. On Citrix Netscaler, if I use the traditional load balancing i.e. without Citrix AppXpert, then the users are able to edit and save the pages. That is an option if the customer is using SharePoint 2010 Standard. That is not an option if a customer is
    using InfoPath forms. InfoPath is a feature of SharePoint 2010 Enterprise edition. Citrix AppXpert for SharePoint is needed to make the InfoPath work. Else the users get session errors when they use InfoPath Web forms.
    c. The issue happens on almost all combination of OS and browser. XP, vista, Win 7, Win8, Win8.1, IE8, 9, 10, 11 and other browsers like chrome etc as well.
    Please share your ideas and suggestions.

    Hi Faisal,
    As I understand, the issue will be solved when end users directly connect to SharePoint WFE servers. Since the issue is related to third party products, I'd recommend you contact their support engineer for sufficient resource and assistance. For your convenience:

  • Weird Audio Editing Issue: Importing Room Tone causes beeps on timeline

    Okay, I'm fairly new to Final Cut so I'm sure there's a simple fix for this I'm just missing, but I need some help. I'm working on a nearly complete sequence, using the audio mixing set-up. I tried to import room tone to tracks 7 and 8, and for some reason, whenever I do this, these thin red bars appear in intervals at the top of my timeline, and when I do play back, everytime the playhead hits these red bars, I get two beeps. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Any suggestions on what's causing this?
    -Jett

    More than likely you need to increase the number of tracks fcp can monitor in real time. This setting is in user settings: general under real time audio mixing. Try increasing the number of tracks.
    It's also possible that this roomtone settings don't match your sequence settings or are in a heavily compressed format such as mp3. If so, use compressor to convert your tracks to 48k 16 bit (probably).

  • Source Sequence to Timeline Editing Bugs?

    Hi. I'm new to PP and I've run into a couple of issues when editing from a sequence loaded into the source viewer. (i.e KEM roll style editing) I'm using 7.0.1
    First problem - with the timeline set to Insert or Overwrite sequences as nests everything works fine (although i don't really see the purpose of working this way). Mostly you would want to "Insert or Overwrite as individual clips", but when i overwrite a clip the timeline ignores my in and out points which effectively means you can't do a three point edit. There's another strange bug that when you Insert the playhead jumps way off screen instead of staying at the end of the inserted clip.
    Second problem - "Replace with clip from Source Monitor" and "Replace with clip from Source Monitor, Match Frame" only replaces with the nested clip, is there no way to replace with the original clip? BTW, would be great if you could map a keyboard shortcut for this command as well?

    Thanks Jim.
    Some more info...
    Premiere Pro CC 7.0.1

    It's very consistent behaviour, happens every time.

  • Timeline edits not displaying in Program Monitor

    My issue is when trimming a clip in my sequence timeline, I'm no longer seeing the clip displayed in the Program Monitor as I attempt to edit either by keyboard shortcut or with the move Tool. (it remains black throughout)
    Is there a simple setting I changed that disabled this? I've tried resetting the workspace to default, but I'm unable to view clips I'm trimming in any monitor in realtime, only after making changes.
    Also - When I scrub through the clips will play, just not when trimming.
    Does anyone know the solution to this please?

    There's no user adjustment for this, it normally just happens.
    Let's start here:
      FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

  • Jitter problem after burning DVD from avi or mpeg2 that was exported from original timeline edit

    When burning a DVD directly from the timeline in Elements 7, there is usually no problem, however, when first exporting it to an .avi or .mpeg2 file, and then putting that new file back into the timeline, and then burning that new file to a DVD, there is jitter or "strobing" when the subject in the video moves (when playing the DVD).
    It's not an install, or re-install issue, because before I started with this new computer, the exact same thing happened with the last computer I was using.
    Thanks.

    Les,
    I do not know the newer Pinnacle Studio products, but going back to 8 and 9, through 9.4.3, the workflow was based on DV-AVI, just like PrE is. Pinnacle might have changed over to MPEG-2 in later versions, but I just do not know, as I have not seen a version, since Studio 10 hit was such a disaster.
    One of the problems when working from DVD-Video material is that it has already been compressed to MPEG-2, loosing a good bit of data, and also converting the material to GOP (Group of Pictures), so that individual Frames are not present any longer. This precludes Frame-accurate editing, unless that compressed material is converted to all I-frame. See this ARTICLE for some background on GOP. Then, upon Burn to Disk, that I-frame material is once more compressed (again) to MPEG-2 and GOP for use in a VOB container. This WILL cause degradation of the image, most noticeable where there is motion, either subject, or camera motion. Some NLE's offer what is referred to as "Smart Rendering." This can help in some areas. For portions of the footage, where no changes have been made, beyond just cuts, the material will NOT be Transcoded again to MPEG-2, but will be used, as-is. Note: add a Transition, or a Title, or a PiP, or any Effect, and that footage WILL be Transcoded, so the Smart Rendering aspect will be moot. Sony's Vegas has been recommended for Smart Rendering, but I have never used it. This might be worth investigating. Also, if Pinnacle Studio is working fine, you might want to consider using that program. I have 5 different NLE's on my workstation, and use each for specialized situations, though the vast majority of my editing is done in PrPro.
    Regarding the existing DVD-Videos, much depends of the source. PrE can Import and work with 100% DVD-compliant (very important) VOB's. Unfortunately, most DVR's do not create 100% DVD-compliant discs. This is most often manifested in the first VOB, which will contain any Menus and navigation. This ARTICLE will give you some background on VOB's, which are Video Object "containers."
    As you point out, there can be issues with the resulting MPEG-2, as it will span part of VOB 1, and then all remaining VOB's. With 100% DVD-compliant VOB's, there will be a perfect flow in the MPEG-2 that spans the multiple VOB's. When the VOB's are not 100% DVD-compliant, issues can arise.
    Considering your DVR, it is likely that ripping is going to be the best workflow, as that will strip out the other material in the first VOB and should then gather the data for the spanned MPEG-2. The ultimate rip will be to a DV-AVI Type II file w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. This is an older FAQ Entry from the Encore Forum, on ripping, but might have some useful tips. Note: this was for getting material from a DVD-Video for authoring to a new DVD in Encore, and not editing.
    For non-commercial DVD-Video editing, I will use an A-D bridge and my DVD deck, and capture to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, and Import the resulting files into PrPro/PrE. This is exactly the same workflow that I use, with analog material, like VHS.
    Also note that PrPro, a US$900 program did not get VOB Importing until CS4.2 (current version), while PrE has had it for some time now. Also, PrPro is a DV-AVI-based, I-frame, program, just like PrE, so no "Smart Rendering" there either. Same exact issues exist in "big-brother," PrPro.
    Most of all, good luck,
    Hunt

  • Should captured footage and timeline edit be kept on seperate drives?

    i'm new to FCP and have my captured footage and the edited project contained on an external drive... but from the get-go i've been having, what seem to be, memory issues-- everything starts well, but during each new editing session, the thumbnail images on clips entered into the project timeline soon fail to appear. not long after this behavior begins, the clips themselves, while present on the timeline (i know because they play back) are invisible each time i drag them down for editing. after i save the project, shut down and restart, everything is present and back to normal... but once i begin editing, the behavior described above begins to reoccur.
    i'm wondering if this issue could be resolved by keeping the project on the apple's internal hard drive while maintaining the captured footage on the external scratch drive... or maybe there's something else going wrong here. any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
    mac g5   Mac OS X (10.3.5)   3.5 gig ram

    The generally accepted principle is to keep the
    project file on the system drive and all captured
    media and render files on a secondary internal (or
    external) drive.
    Personally I keep my thumbnails on the system drive
    as well. They're tiny.
    jim, thanks for the response. is there a trick to putting the project and thumbnails on the system drive, keeping them separate from the external scratch drive? or is this easy to figure out? thanks again.

  • Timeline/Behavior Issues

    I have placed 3 AP Elements (with Images in them) into my timeline.  I have staggered them and applied the fade/appear behavior to each.  I have also set the timeline to loop, however when it is done fading the last image out the screen is blank for a few seconds and then starts back with the first image.  I want to fix it where there is no blank after the last image is done...  What am I missing.  Should I add a new behavior right before the loop or what?  Thanks!

    Having a similar issue here. Been working with FCX for a week now and simply love it, but last night started to see some issues on the timeline. A simple restart seemed to help. Here's what I would suggest and what I'm doing for now to make sure that I don't loose any footage. Depending on the time of your project, create a number of projects, in my case, 4 separate projects for 1 show. I have an outdoor show that I edit/film/produce/host and it's 4 segments between commercials. I'm simply editing 1 segment at a time. Seems everyone is screaming at the small glitches in FCX, but I've been working with FC7 for years now and I have daily issues including timeline, crashes, drop frames on export, the list goes on and on and on. Try dumping the pref file whenever this happens, that also seems to help. This program is incredible and since I incorporate so much music into the show, the magnetic timeline is like butter.

  • Timeline Playback Issue - OSX

    I have two iMacs that are having this issue. When I am using the J, K, and L keys to play and shuttle through the timeline the L key does not play it just skips forward one frame every time I press its. This will happen forever unless I press the space bar to play then go back to using the L key. I pretty much deal only with several camera shoots, so I cannot determine if it is better or worse with single cam timelines.
    OSX 10.9.3
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Hitachi 7200RPM HDD
    ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
    Premiere Pro 7.2.2
    Footage is AVCHD 1080i 60fps playing off of a harddrive
    I also notice that sometimes the playhead won't actually go to where I place it when I click on the timeline, it will jump to it then instantly jump back to where it was originally; not sure if this is related or another issue.
    Does anyone else experience this? What can I do to correct it?

    Jim,
    You keep making the same mistake over and over and you obviously do not understand that a single disk has more tasks than just feeding a media stream from disk. If that was the only thing, you might have been correct, but it is ridiculous to state that a single slow disk is enough for editing.
    You simply forget Windows housekeeping tasks (system clock, network access, indexing, file tags, logs, etc.) , access to the page file, loading and unloading DLL's needed by services and processes running, Adobe accesssing indexed, conformed and peak files and the database pointers to them, the raw media, the accessing of importer and exporter modules, the effects and transition modules, the playback engine, backup of project files, Adobe logs, etcetera, etcetera.
    You always assume that time lines have only one track, not multiple tracks and each track in use more than doubles the bandwidth requirements.
    You conveniently forget audio processing and multiple audio tracks. In short, you give a very lobsided story than is completely inaccurate.
    No hard feelings, but I think you better adjust your stance on this.

  • Timeline control issues in firefox

    My flash animation is not loading correctly in Firfox, the
    ActionScript I'm using to control the timeline with FlashVars is
    not working. I'm am a beginer at this and I don't know the problem.
    It is working fine in IE after enabling the ActiveX, as well as in
    Safari.
    I am creating basicaly a graph that loads values from
    FlashVars of which values will be set by database entries using php
    or JavaScript (not my portion of the project). Odly enough I have
    movie clip symbols in the animation which are working fine. I have
    flashvars loading into the movie than I declare new variables
    directed within the respective symbols that in effect control the
    timeline. The declarations are in the first frame of the main
    timeline and look a little like this:
    FirstSymbol.FirstVariable = FlashVar;
    SecondSymbol.SecondVariable = OtherFlashVar;
    and so on. Then within the symbols I have timeline controls
    to play the movie at a particular frame according to the variable
    values, they look something like this:
    if (FirstVariable<=0) {
    gotoAndPlay(2);
    } else if (FirstVariable>0 & FirstVariable<=1) {
    gotoAndStop(3);
    } else if (FirstVariable>1 & FirstVariable<=2) {
    gotoAndStop(4);
    This is all working fine. But the same principal is not
    working on the main timeline. I even tried re-declaring a new
    variable with the value equaling the imported FlashVar, but it
    didn't make a differenence. There is one diference with the bellow
    code which is that it is all in a "if, else if" statement. In the
    main timeline I have two variables that will control the timeline.
    One is to bring the timeline to a certain point (this is not
    working), the other is to limit how far the movie will play
    according to the value it is givin. So I have the "if, else if"
    statement in the begining to make sure it does not go anyware if
    the limiting variable is equal to zero. The code I'm using looks
    something like this:
    stop();
    if (LimitingFlashVar<=0)
    gotoAndStop(1);
    } else if (LimitingFlashVar>0)
    if (StartingFlashVar<=0) {
    gotoAndPlay(2);
    } else if (StartingFlashVar>0 &
    StartingFlashVar<=1) {
    gotoAndPlay(105);
    } else if (StartingFlashVar>1 &
    StartingFlashVar<=2) {
    gotoAndPlay(209);
    } else if (StartingFlashVar>2 &
    StartingFlashVar<=3) {
    gotoAndPlay(313);
    Instead of going to and playing the appropriate frames the
    movie just starts playing from the first frame and only stops at
    the next ActionScript which tells it to stop. Regardless, it
    niether stops at the first frame, nore does it jump to the
    appropriate frame. I don't know if this is an ActionScript problem,
    as it behaves the same way if the ActiveX is not enabled in IE, but
    once it id enabled it works fine in IE, and as I said, Safari.
    So what's the deal with Firefox? Is there some Script that
    can counter this issue and make it work. I've seen other posts
    which seam to address similar issues, and they tell me to "find a
    block of code X and insert Y after it", they say:
    "If you're having problems getting the Control Flash behavior
    to work in Firefox, find this line of code:
    var obj=MM_findObj(objStr);
    and add this code on the line after it:
    if (obj && obj[1]) obj=obj[1]; ..."
    I was unable to try this because I'm new at this and I don't
    know where that code is to be found or edited. Or is it something
    else? Please help. Sorry this is such a long post, but I would
    really appreciate some guidence from anyone who can help.

    I saw that in my earlier searches (before I posted).
    I'm not working with multiple profiles.
    from my home directory ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini
    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=jhn3pg5a.default
    Default=1
    Only 1 profile defined and the default flag is set.
    Should I be looking somewhere else as to where it's getting it's information from?

  • Timeline playback issues

    I am having issues with the playback of clips in my timeline.  The clips will play for 1 or two seconds then stop.  If I click play the same thing repeats over and over.  The odd thing is that I can intermittently on occasion play the timeline without doing anything differently.
    Before we go too deep pointing blame at hardware issues I am able to play these clips with NO problems using Aunsoft Final Mate, Windows Media Player as well as AE writer 5.0 which came with my camcorder.  I have the Panasonic HCX920. This camera records 1080/60p. with 5.1 channel audio.  When I select project assets I get the following info.  Type: MPEG Movie Size 1920X1080, frame Rate 59.94, Pixel ratio 1, average data rate 3Mb/sec, source audio 48Khz compressed 6 ch.,project audio 48Khz 32 bit floating point 6 ch.
    I record to SandiskExtreme Pro SDHC UHS-I cards 16 GB.  I am adding the media using the 1080/60p preset in Elements 11.  I save my projects on my C drive but keep everything else including the imported video, scratch discs etc on my WD RE 4TB SATAIII hard drive.
    I am running Windows 7 Pro 64Bit  I have 16 GB of RAM and the processor is the Intel i5-2500k CPU at 3.3GHz.
    I have updated my Nvidia video card driver to the latest its the GT430.  I have also made sure that I am running the latest version of Quicktime.
    I purchased the Adobe Premiere elements 11 Classroom in a book and have read it.  I have checked the problem solving docs on adobe's web site.  My concern is that I can play back these clips without any issues on everything that I have tried except PE11.
    Correct me if I am wrong but I am supposed to play the entire timeline from beginning to end by pressing play without interruptions correct?
    I have tried rendering the timeline but that doesn't seem to do anything.  There is no indication that lets you know if rendering is in progress or if completed. I know that  PE11 supports 1080/60p but is this cameras output something that PE11 doesn't handle?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    98taxi
    Please excuse the question, I was reading about your Panasonic HCX920 offerings and noted  AVCHD 1080p60 and AVCHD 3D.
    What is the difference in the properties between the two so that one can distinquish between the two on a MediaInfo or other properties readout?
    You wrote
    I have tried rendering the timeline but that doesn't seem to do anything.  There is no indication that lets you know if rendering is in progress or if completed.
    When you tried to render the Timeline containing the 1080p60, was there an orange line, green line, or no colored line over its content on the Timeline? If you have no colored line or a green line, there is no rendering when you press the Render Button or press Enter or go Timeline/Render Work Area, just playback of your Timeline. The colored line indicator system is the program telling you whether or not it feels that you are getting the best possible preview for what you are seeing in the Edit Mode monitor at playback. With no colored line or green indicator, no rendering since the program feels that you are getting the best possible preview. You realize that once you edit that "rendered" clip it will require rendering to get the best possible preview of what you then have. If orange line over time and you render, you know the rendering process is complete when the orange line is completely replaced by a green one.
    When all is said and done, at this point, if you export your 1080p60, what does the export look like on your player? Are you seeing the same problems in the export as you are seeing at the Timeline level?
    If you are exporting the 1080p60, then to what...1080p60 with 5.1 channel audio? If you want to do that, as 1080p60 with AAC 5.1 Channel Audio I can tell you how to do that. Can do as AAC but not Dolby Digital.
    If you did want to follow up on JMJarrige's suggestion about deleting the BadDrivers.txt file, in your Windows 7 64 bit, the BadDrivers.txt file can be found in the path:
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
    and in the 11.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete.
    I may have missed the information in what has already been written, so I would appreciate it if you could remind me how you are importing your 1080p60 into Premiere Elements
    a. from memory card into Premiere Elements via one of the Add Media choices as mentioned by SG, that is, the FLIP one
    or
    b. transferring your 1080p60 to the computer hard drive save location, followed by import into Premiere Elements 11 via its Add Media/Files and Folders?
    Just some thoughts.

  • Can't name Sequences or Clips - Seem to be in constant "Timeline" Edit Mode

    I'm having a strange problem. I can't name sequences or clips in the Browser. When I click the sequence to name it I get the standard box with the words Sequence 1 highlighted in Light Blue. My cursor is there. This is normally where you can backspace and rename a sequence.
    However, I cannot rename or name a sequence. What does happen though is that when I type a letter corresponding to a tool like Ripple or Slip, then those tools are highlighted in the lower right-hand vertical tool bar. So even though I'm operating in the browser, FCP is acting like I'm editing in the timeline.
    I've switched keyboards. I've cleared up 20 gb of memory. I've rebooted, restarted, and cleared my preferences. Nothing seems to work.

    When FCP rescues you, all your good settings go out along with the potentially corrupted. If you have customized your interface, loosing all that can be a total pain.
    On the off chance that it isn't a preference problem, (and with FCP not running) first BACKUP your preference files, then TRASH them. When you start FCP, new pref files will be created using the default settings. If this works, BACKUP the new ones.
    However, if trashing the prefs did no good - i.e. you still have the same problem, you can simply RESTORE to bring back your original settings.
    No matter what, once you have a good working setup, the BACKUP command is a great thing. Once saved, you can restore your 'known to be good' settings anytime things look funky and you will not lose custom settings.
    I prefer FCP Attic as it gives me the option to choose which preference files I wish to save and/or trash. With FCP Rescue it is all or nothing.
    Cheers.

  • Editing issue with DVCpro 50, blak lines right and left

    Hello to everyone, I am editing in native DVCpro 50. In the canvas I get a thin black line left and right, so the footgae is not completely covering the canvas view. Should I resize the footgae a little bit to match this?
    My problem is that I am bringing pictures to the project so I dont know if I should adjust them to the cambas or to the slightlt smaller fame of the footage, this would be a hard work to make everything equal
    Thanks for your help

    If this is for TV, the lines will be outside the safe action area anyway, so they will not be seen.
    You will see them on a computer though.
    If you really need to zoom in slightly, do it when your edit is locked to one clip.
    Right click that clip in the timeline and copy it.
    Highlight all the other clips, right click and go to Paste Attributes then select Basic Motion.
    That will change all the others to match.
