To Apple techs: Two additions we'd love to see in iTunes

1) Chapter Tool for Windows. Mac users have been singing the praises of this app for quite a while now. I've seen screenshots and it looks awesome. Isn't it time we lowly Windows get a crack at it? I'd love to be able to easily add chapters (and art) to large audiobook files and podcasts. I'd also like to be able to rip live or other continuous albums into a single track with the songs as chapters for gapless play. One cool way to integrate this feature into iTunes would be to include an option where track names could automatically be designated as chapter names when joining tracks on a CD.
2) The ability to determine what gets filed under the Audiobook menu on the iPod. I don't care if it's a check field or simply choosing "Audiobook" as the genre. It's completely arbitrary that only .aa and .m4b files can exist in this category, especially now that iTunes allows you to toggle the shuffle skip and remember playback options on any file. I'd simply like to be able to put all of my spoken word, dramatizations, and tradtional audio books under one easily reachable heading, separate from my music and podcasts. Is this too much to ask?
Are you listening, Apple?

Steven,
Apple might not be listening. Better to provide feedback here.
iTunes Feedback does not give a direct way to provide feedback from the popup menu other than music requests. You can also choose to select the iPod feedback on the page.

Don't steal music !! Just a statement, not an accusation

  • Some features I would love to see in iTunes and iPod

I love iTunes and iPod. For me they both have worked flawlessly. As good as they are, I would love to see a couple features added.
I would love to have iTunes and my iPod sync the songs that the iPod played since its last updating into the song count in iTunes in orer to have a more accurate idea of my most listened too songs.
I listen to an online radio station that uses aacPlus streaming, I would love to see iTunes support aacPlus streaming.
and last of all but not least of all, in addition to the EQ presents in the iPod, i would like to have an actual EQ with 7 frequency areas that one can adjust asccording to their taste and an actual setting called loudness that adds that extra bit to the punch of the sound.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to write for wishes such as I have mentioned above, but I guess that I have to have a place to start somwhere so here it is.

"I would love to have iTunes and my iPod sync the songs that the iPod played since its last updating into the song count in iTunes"
It does already do this... unless you use manual updating. Under auto updating, tracks played on your iPod should up the count in iTunes on your next sync.

  • HT1688 iPhone 4S no WiFi anywhere iOS 5 after Apple Tech help same issue on iOS 6

ISSUE  - can not connect to any WiFi hotspot at all
Several weeks ago my daughters iPhone 4S AT&T (on iOS 5) phone number failed to connect to any WiFi hotspot on her college campus including: campus wide WiFi, Starbucks  or her Cisco 1500 WiFi in her dorm room.  She has an iPhone 4S under warranty (I think now in the range of 30-20 more days).
The iPhone couldn't find any WiFi at all, but her roommates iPhone 4 worked perfectly everywhere on all hotspots.
So I have been paying for massive data overage charges with AT&T because the iPhone 4S is broken.
AT&T and then APPLE tech support first  call 4 hours long
She rented a car and drove home 47 miles (94 miles round trip) and spent the afternoon a few Sundays ago and I spent 4 hours on the phone with AT&T and then Apple support.   I was weird I pointed our that her phone was 0.06GB over capacity e.g. a yellow caution alert in iTunes - but the Apple tech on the phone said just back it up and we would reset and restore it.
We did all the usual stuff with AT&T and then they gave up and moved us to Apple (backups, resets, then a full system factory revert, and restore) - it was brutal I hadn't seen my daughter in 2 months and her entire visit was a tech support nightmare.
Despite saying I did not want her to upgrade to iOS 6.X - the apple tech wanted to do a full restore BUT the restore procedure triggered an unwanted iOS 6.X upgrade  (and wiped the phone and started a massive download) without my permission - it was a slow painful 1 hour 40 minute download.  Worse yet I kept thinking that if she is 0.06GB over capacity and the iOS 6.X is "bigger" than 5.X what was going to happen to her phone ?  The apple tech got testy with me when I pointed this out I had to say "you know if a glass of water is overfilled by 0.06 and you want to replace 2 oz with 3 oz (e.g. the iOS upgrade form 5 to 6 ) then obviously it will spill some more - she didn't get it.
So I have a near 2 hour download - scheduled a call call back but was hung up on (Apples IP phone system couldn't here me talk) and had to go back through AT&T's 611 support number support to get an Apple technician since the Apple line said it was closed - her iPhone was in a limbo 1/2 upgraded state waiting for user input in iTunes.
During the restore (I say during not after) that her WiFi did start working while the apple tech was on the line BUT the restore was still gong on in the background - her camera roll took 16+ hours to restore ( yes sixteen hours !!!) - during which time she left the phone tethered to her Mac-book didn't use it and left her Mac-book attached to a power source.
Overall she says that lost some data and her also her music playlists on her phone, and it did connect to WiFi when the rep was on the line and when she first got back to the her college campus.
Comments (not related to the issue at hand):
    1. Overall this was a very very time consuming experience - I am a computer guy (not stupid but not super Mac knowledgeable either) but it seems to me that we should be able to attache the iPhone to iTunes and Apple should be able to remote control everything instead of saying click her click there and having Apple technicians say there is a non-existent menu (she was mixed up between Mac OS-X and Windows PC iTunes) here etc. etc.. Seriously why have the end user involved this is 2012 and if the iTunes is on the Internet there is no excuse for not granting access to Apple Tech!
    2. As for iOS 6.X (I loaded it my IPhone 4) your maps are crap and useless I hate it thanks for giving me a worthless mapping system - I gout out my old GPS unit and put it back in my car.  Seriously give us back Google maps. My other daughter gets pop-ups upgrade to iOS 6 but can not load iOS 6 because it then says not enough space.  What a joke !
---------------------------------------ISSUE recurred after 1-2 days can not connect to any WiFi at all
But it only worked for one (1) or two (2) days and then under iOS 6.X the same issue started happening.   Her iPhone 4S failed to connect to any WiFi hotspot on her college campus (LMU) including: campus wide WiFi, Starbucks  or her Cisco 1500 WiFi in her dorm room.  The exact same thing.
I keep getting hammered on over use cellular charges from AT&T despite she should be cooked due to all the WiFi radiation coursing through her body on campus form both her own Cisco 1500 hotspot and the campus wide network.
---------------------------------------AT&T  tech support second call AT&T said the phone was broken Apple should replace
So it only worked for one (1) or two (2) days despite my daughter driving almost 100 miles and being sucked into a a marathon 4 hour tech support nightmare with Apple.  The net result the exact same thing started happening again no WiFi capabilities again.  So I had her call AT&T at 611 and the AT&T technician talked to her looked at the lengthy case notes from the prior call e.g. the history and said that the iPhone 4S was defective phone no point in wasting another four hours of every one's time.  She was told by AT&T to go to the Apple store get the iPhone replaced as it was under warranty.
Problem is that she has no way to get to the Apple store (no car) so I now have a 94 mile round trip to pick her up and go to an Apple store before her one (1) year warranty expires - as such I made this appointment.
I did some more research and this seems to be a pretty big problem for people - Apple is hiding the issue hoping people just go away and they have no concept of cost and time that they force down customers throughts to debug problems.
It even seems like Apple actually hid a known problem from me during my initial four hour tech nightmare that Tim Cook admitted publicly on Sept 24, 2012 (last few links) see below links for further research:

All in all Apple is really dissapointing me 5 iphones and the newer they get the more bugs 3G worked great no issues, iPhone 4 no major issues, iPhone 4S buggy WiFi - never want to use an iPhone 5 form what I am reading.

No one is going to read your lengthy post.
If the basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the User Guide don't work, then bring your phone in for replacement.

  • One apple id two different users

I was the "original" purchaser and user of iTunes music.  Had music on my desktop (then laptop) and iPhone and Nano and iPad Mini, etc.  Many years ago I also got my husband an iPod.  We just used my Apple ID and manually added music to his iPod since he and I have mostly different tastes in music.  It wasn't really much of an issue back then.  But since then he now has a Mac Mini and a new iPod Touch.  His Mac Mini has it's own library of music which is obviously different than the library on my MB Air.  We have "my music" and "his music" most all of which has been purchased from iTunes under the one Apple ID. I keep all of our mobile devices set to sync manually so there's no unintentional "cross mixing" of our music. Obviously in hind sight I should have setup his own Apple ID for all of his music back then, but that's a bridge already crossed.
So what's the problem?  It started as one thing but has morphed into an additional thing...  He was getting confused/irritated that on his iPod he was "seeing" "my" music which he didn't want to see or play.  I did some googling and found the setting to turn off so that he would only see music that was actually ON his iPod rather than all purchased music.
Then the second problem came up.  He had copied most everything from his library to his iPod Touch, and certain songs would play for awhile and then the sound would stop.  Music would keep moving - but no sound.  Several trips and phone calls and apple support help couldn't figure out the problem.  It was not hardware related.  I now think that the problem is that the music that stops playing is Protected AAC music and that is causing some squirrelly things to happen.  I found a site that explains how to change this protected music to purchased music using iTunes Match.  And I am not averse to doing that.  But I am so unclear about how iTunes Match would work with both his library and mine that I'm not ready to do that without some input and guidance.  I have two scenarios I would like help with:
Ideal Plan:  Set him up with his own Apple ID but he still has complete access to all of the current music that he wants including getting the protected music to be purchased music so that it works.  In the future all of his purchases are done under his Apple ID.
If That isn't Possible Plan:  Use iTunes Match to change the protected music to be purchased music so (hopefully) his iPod Touch won't stop playing those older protected songs.  And I think I'd like to use iTunes Match for my music library as well because I put music on my iPhone and it takes up a lot of space.  Would rather be able to access it through the Cloud rather than have it all physically on my phone.  But what next?  I certainly don't want to see all of his music and playlists on my phone, and he doesn't want to see my music and playlists on his phone.
    If I ...
    a. setup  iTunes Match on his desktop to fix the protected music problem, then
    b. copy everything to his iPod, then
    c. turn Match off on his desktop and iPod
       what will happen if I
    d.  setup iTunes Match on my desktop and iPhone - will I see all of his music too which I don't want to do??
I am so confused and I'm not sure my questions make any sense to anyone else.  But if anyone can point me in the right direction for a solution I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks for any tips or solutions.

I understand.  But "his stuff" isn't on my machine so iTunes Match wouldn't find "his" music to match up.  It's only on his machine.
    Marcy,
Match looks for stuff to upgrade in your purchase history, not on your machine.  In fact, to make the upgrade work, the first thing you have to do is delete the DRM version!
Here are the steps for using Match to upgrade (the reference doc is  iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support ):
Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?
Yes. If you subscribe to iTunes Match, you can download your previously purchased music again in the iTunes Plus format. To do so:
You need to delete the original DRM song from your library first. Doing this enables you to download the song again in the iTunes Plus format from iTunes in the Cloud.
Click the Purchased tab in the iTunes Store.
    Click Music.
Locate the artist of the song you want to upgrade.
Click the iCloud Download icon next to the song you want to upgrade.

  • My back button does not work because the prior screen does not appear in the history.  I therefore must go back to the blue screen and reload safari.  Apple tech support could not help.  Can anyone else help?

After I installed mountain lion my back button frequently does not work because the prior screen does not appear iunder History.  Apple tech support was not able to fix the problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.
there seriously should be more than two ways to solve this other wise apple is useless and we will never buy another apple product.
    Seriously? It's physically broken!

  • IPad Gen 3 had classic iOS8 glitch, 24hrs later of little to no usage its Died Apple Tech said a fault code came up but wouldn't elaborate - just the up sell to either a new Air2 or a refurbished Gen 3 @ $360AUD !! Anyone else??

ipad Gen 3 dead... Apple tech says major fault.. seems  to have occurred after iOS 8 update and even though its 2 years old its been only lightly used.. Seems very sus with the new Air2 out and a perfectly good iPad just all of a sudden dead- Help !!

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • My iTunes match on my MacBook Pro hasn't worked since Mountain Lion install. Tried Apple Tech but all their suggestions didn't solve the issue. Guess I will try them again on Monday. Clearly this is a common problem and a Mountian Lion conflict issue.

iTunes match hasn't worked since Mountain Lion install. Cloud icon keeps striking~ off. Won't upload new tracks to iTunes match. Just the eternal circle of step one, two, freeze....then tries again but never gets completed. Worked fine before Mountain Lion. Apple tech tried over phone for an hour but it didn't solve this issue. See others are in the same boat. Any help with this, please??

Same issue here with a MacBook pro recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I hadn't tried iTunes Match prior to the upgrade so can't say whether or not it worked previously.
    Getting quite frustrated!

  • All Airport dropouts: CALL APPLE TECH SUPPORT NOW!!!

I am using an Airport card in my iMac to connect wirelessly to the internet. My wireless signal has been unreliable since I bought this computer in November. I've tried new router settings, upgrading firmware, even bought a new router. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Technical Support, have taken my computer to two different Apple stores for diagnosis and repair and am on my second erase and re-install. I told my latest tech guy that this seemed like a pretty wide spread problem with all the messages on these boards, but, according to him, it's really only a tiny fraction of all of the business Apple does. I find it to be one of the most disruptive and infuriating glitches that I've experienced because there is no good fix for it and because Apple clearly doesn't care to figure out what the problem is. I was even the one that suggested to my tech guy that I send him my log to try and see where the problem lies. Why has no one ever looked at my log! Yesterday's tech guy finally agreed to replace my computer. I'm not sure I want one. My eMac still works fine. Maybe I'll just sell the new one. Anyone want a new in box 20" iMac?

I have some information you can pass on to Apple Tech support, if you ever contact them again.
iWeb 1.0, from what I have heard, generally connected just fine, but 1.1 and 1.1.1 did not for many people, myself included.
My own publishing problem turns out to have been because I run a Squid Caching Proxy in my basement. I was fortunate enough to discover why iWeb stopped publishing. My experience is documented here: http://www.untergeek.com/?p=675
Having perused many of the "publishing error" -type posts in this forum, I can tell you that many have discovered that they are able to upload via dial-up or from another site via a different ISP. This leads me to believe that some ISPs block these new HTTP methods, causing iWeb publishing to fail. (The HTTP methods are ACL and DMMKPATH).
So the short version is that iWeb isn't at fault, per se, but rather that the disconnect is between the new HTTP methods and some ISPs performing some sort of filtering. I imagine that Apple's developers had no idea that these new methods could or would be filtered in this fashion.
Perhaps when they find out that this is occurring, they'll make a non-filtered work-around.

  • Talked To Apple Tech Support

Talked to an Apple Tech about my Wifi issues and got a case number. Here is what was said:
    1. They hear these issues a lot
    2. First suggestion was to turn off WiFi, and power down and reboot, then try again. I had already done this more than once, it didn’t help.
    3. We talked about router brands, but that didn’t seem a big factor. Based on his comments it sounds like they see more problems with secure networks than with open ones, but that’s just my reading between the lines. My issue is with open networks that are not close at hand (in distance).
    4. Next suggestion was to try a few other open network locations. I had done this and McDonalds and a local credit union worked ok. However at my friends house, which is linksys based, it either fails to see the network or connects for only a few seconds at a time.
    5. Test the same problem locations with my iPhone to see whether it can connect or not at places where the iPad cannot but the laptop can.
    6. Try a system restore to see if that helps. He claimed that 30% to 40% of the units they get back for Wifi issues work correctly after a system restore. No clue as to how valid these numbers are, but that is what he said.
    7. Call back if none of these worked and they would see about either a replacement or some other options.
I’m doing the restore now. It will be Sunday before I can test again at my friends house which is where the WiFi issue first surfaced. I’ll repost then on what happens.

Hi all: i have wifi connection problems with my new iPad 32GB.
To start, it connects fine, works for 10-15 minutes then if it goes to sleep, then wakes, it forgets the network, and/ or the WEP key. i have a new Verizon wireless router and FIOS network. i am sitting two feet away from the router antenna. I have a macbook, iphone, ipod touch and all of these Apple devices work on the wifi network- never any problems for over a year with these Apple devices. My question is, what is different about the iPad? Is it a hardware or software issue?
Verizon has locked down the router; i can't change the router settings. Anyway, I want to bring the iPad out to location N (Starbucks, wherever)- who knows if these places have configured their routers to be compatible with the iPad wifi problem?
I tried a reset of the iPad, and tried Forget Network, and reestablish connection, but no luck. i even erased the iPad and rebuilt, with the result being the same wifi connectivity problem.
I spoke with Apple Support and no one seems to know what the problem is. I went to my local Apple store and got a replacement iPad- but the replacement iPad has the same wifi connection problems.
My second question is, should I return the iPad and wait until these devices are fixed? Or if I keep it, then time is running out on the warranty... and if the wifi connectivity problem turns out to be a hardware issue, I don't know if Apple would fix it out of warranty...
    Very Concerned.
It took $600 to be an Early Adopter, and now all my gloating about my new iPad seems foolish.

  • Contacting Apple Tech support about persistent fan problem

I have had a persistent fan noise problem for nearly a year now. My MacPro is 16 months old and the video card fan constantly runs at high or near high all the time. My MacPro is never silent and often very noisy. This, I understand, is very abnormal for the MacPros. I have listened to other MacPros in shops and they are nearly silent. Mine buzzes always.
I have taken my computer in three times since purchasing it. The video card has been replaced twice (ie, I'm on my third video card) and the motherboard has been replaced once as well. I've taken the machine to two different repair shops and I still have this fan noise problem. All the repair guys can say is "yeah its noisy but I don't know why"
I would like to contact Apples main tech support about this but cannot find any info on how to on the support site. Does anyone know how to contact Apple's main tech support (e.g., who do the technicians contact when they run into trouble)?
    Thanks for your help

The numbers on the page I linked to are all, to the best of my knowledge, Apple tech support, not independent support providers, with the possible exception of Hong Kong and perhaps some of the smaller areas; I'm not sure, not having called them all. What country are you in?
BTW, there is no email for Apple tech support. Apple provides tech support via telephone only.

  • Apple Tech Support and the Publish Fiasco

This publishing issue has been something I have fought with from the moment that iWeb was released. It recurs every few weeks, and either resolves its self, or in the most extreme case the last time this ocurred, I had to delete my entire site from my iDisk manually, and spend 10 hours, and repeated attempts republishing.
I had contacted Apple Tech support, and gotten no satisfaction. They escalated the call some weeks ago. I was supposed to hear from an engineer and never did. That is what prompted me to go the extreme route of actually deleting my entire 860 MByte site and starting over.
I installed the iWeb update this morning, thinking that this problem would be solved. It was not. Looking around on this discussion board, I see an awful lot of similar comments. This has made me all the angrier since this is an issue that has been there since day 1, and not been resolved.
I very angrily called Apple technical support, and because I had reported this case multiple times in the past, I was escalated to a higher level support. I have been on the phone with Apple for the past two hours. The engineer ended up taking an extensive report from me. We tried several of the recommended procedures: check privileges on .mac, alter .mac allocation sizes, delete the assets.plist in the domain file, etc. to no avail. Finally stumped, the engineer sent me a program to actually capture a bunch of logs from my machine, as well as a network traceroute, in an effort to see what is going on network-wise in communicating with .Mac servers. He has promised to get back to me later in the week.
I STRONGLY recommend that everyone having issues with this get on the horn to Apple tech support, and immediately demand that the issue be escalated to the higher-level support engineers, especially if you have already attempted the various solutions offered here. If they are bombarded with support calls and people offering to dump logs and send to them, they will resolve this issue sooner than later (hopefully).

This line from the Pro Maintainence Tools crash report seems to suggest it's crashing when it tries to render a "retiming" effect:
    0 com.apple.Flexo 0x0000000100cc12ce -[FFEffectStack(Retiming) retimed] + 30
But I don't have any third party retiming effects applied, which means it might be crashing with the native FCPX retiming trying to render.
How could I possibly get at a built in effect to disable it? I have many clips retimed on this project.

  • Even Apple tech is stumped

Okay, granted the store was reeeeeally busy last Friday, so they might have been thinking of the next customer in line, but after purchasing a new iPad they set up my email settings on it, copying the exact settings I had on my iPhone g3. I've no problem with the iPhone, same settings, and find it hard to believe that there's a glitch with our isp server that freezes out my iPad, but that's what the Apple tech at the store suggested (very unlike Apple to pass the buck, imo).
    Any thoughts/suggestions? (thanks in advance)

Paul, exactly what do you mean by freezing out your iPad? What is happening when you try to use Mail?
Are you sure the Apple store person put the information in the iPad correctly? Go to Settings > Mail and check the settings in the account and compare with the same on your iPhone. Is the incoming set to POP or IMAP as on the iPhone? Are the outgoing settings, SMTP server and port the same? A good starting point is to delete the account and reenter your self. Or baring that, delete the passwords on incoming and outgoing and reenter yourself. As you enter the passwords, each character stays as plain text for a secodn or two before becoming a dot.
As you said, a very busy staff may make mistakes and the fault may be theirs and not the iPad or ISP.

  • How do I download Mountain Lion to the other computers at my home without additional cost? I downloaded 10.8 to my main IMac but have two additional computers in my home.?

How do I download Mountain Lion to the other computers at my home without additional cost? I downloaded 10.8 to my main IMac but have two additional computers in my home.?

Install 10.6.8 on the other computers. Sign into the App Store with the same Apple ID used to purchase Mountain Lion. Click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. Locate your Mountain Lion purchase entry which will show an active Install/Download button to the right of the entry. Click on it to download to the computer. If you don't wish to download Mountain Lion twice, then do this:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process.
