Tomcat wont start on Server
Hi !!!
Im working on SUNOS 5.9 and I cant start tomcat I allways get this after executing startup.sh command:
Using CATALINA_BASE: /home/atw11vc2/tomcat/apache-tomcat-6.0.14
Using CATALINA_HOME: /home/atw11vc2/tomcat/apache-tomcat-6.0.14
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /home/atw11vc2/tomcat/apache-tomcat-6.0.14/temp
Using JRE_HOME: /home/atw11ux8/local/jdk1.5.0_08
I checked the processes running, there is no tomcat or java process running. Any Ideas?
thanks infront
ok, this is not the right place to ask this question.
Use a special Java / Tomcat forum.
Are the any other error messages / warnings on your screen when you run startup.sh ?
Check tomcat's log files catalina.out and localhost_log.<date>.txt for errors and warnings.
If tomcat isn't running the reason is reported in on of these logs.
Normally you can find the log files in <TOMCAT_HOME>/logs.

Time Machine won't start ML Server 2.2.2
I had to delete some corrupted backups from my Mac Mini Server 2012 running ML Server 2.2.2, now Time Machine service won't start. I get the following errors message:
"Multiple errors occurred on the server while processing commands. Use the console application to view the error messages." OK
I don't see anything in all that gibberish that would lead me to the problem or how to fix it. Any ideas?A few server restarts seemed to fix the problem.
That's a little too PC-like for me. -
SQL Server Reporting Services won't start - SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 on Windows 2008 SP2
All has been fine for some time, this server runs SQL and SSRS.
Recently reporting service says it starts, then stops. No changes of which I am aware.
This is in the application log:
Service cannot be started. System.Exception: Default appdomain failed to initialize.
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ServiceAppDomainController.Start()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportService.OnStart(String[] args)
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)
I've tried changing the account to a domain admin, just to see - but it doesn't help.
Thoughts? Help?Hi BlakeDuffey,
Generally, we may see the error messge "Default appdomain failed to initialize" in the application log when try to start Reporting Services if the RSreportserver.config file has been modified unexpectedly. At this time, I suggest that you back up your
current RSreportserver.config file, and then check the config file referring to the following article:
RSReportServer Configuration File
Note: The RSReportServer.config is located in the <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer folder.
If you cannot find the exceptions in the RSreportserver.config file, please post the config file so that we can help you to check it.
Meanwhile, please also check the Reporting Services Log file to see if there are any error messages related to the issue. If there are, please post the error messges as well. The Reporting Services Log file is located in the <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft
SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\LogFiles folder.
Hope this helps.

Apache and My SQL won't start when server starts, error in /var/log
OS X Server 10.4.6
Everything looks OK, but when I restart the server, Apache does not restart.
The var/log/system contains the following line:
SystemStarter[965]: Apache web server (1002) did not complete successfully
/etc/hostconfig contains the following lines:
MYSQL=-YES-
WEBSERVER=-YES-
What is the standard OS X boot sequence that should start it? i.e. what script gets executed during boot?
If I start by hand (Server Admin), it runs fine.
_mikeCheck /var/log/httpd/error_log after a restart, it will probably have more info about what went wrong with Apache.
Both Apache and MySQL use startupitem scripts located in /System/Library/StartupItems.
The fact that they start up fine manually, several seconds later, probably means that some prerequisite isn't quite ready when they try to start. A quick kludge that will quite probably work would be to put like a 10 second delay in their scripts with the following line at the top of the StartService section:
sleep 10

CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 Won't Start on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
All,
I installed CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 RME on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise and the daemon manager won't start. The server is a VMware ESX server 4.0.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still nothing.
I get message "The service is not responding to the control function"
Has anyone had this issue?
StephanieThere could be several reasons this happens. Common one in Windows 2008 is the swap is not set properly as it defaults to "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives". Try setting the swap to 8GB manually or whichever is the recommendation for your current device count as per:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/3.2/install/guide1/prereq.html
Also make sure the startup services are set this way:

CiscoWorks Daemon Manager: Automatic
CiscoWorks RME NG database engine: Manual
CiscoWorks Tomcat Servlet Engine: Manual
CiscoWorks Web Server: Manual
CWCS Cmf database engine: Manual
CWCS rsh/rcp service: Automatic
CWCS syslog service: Automatic
CWCS tftp service: Automatic

ODBC server & agent won't start - J2EE install
Hi all,
I have installed the developer edition of CFMX7. I have
tomcat running on my windows2000 server, so I downloaded the
windows installer and chose the J2EE-war option. It runs just fine.
I also installed the ODBC server, because I want to connect
to MS Access databases with my developer edition. For that, I tried
this:
http://www.bpurcell.org/blog/index.cfm?mode=entry&entry=860.
First problem was that after tomcat automatically deployed the war
file, the folder 'SequeLink Setup' did not exist in the web-inf\db
folder. So I renamed the war to zip, and checked - the file
is present in the war. So I manually extracted the zip to a
new directory. I ran the cfm script with the reference to this new
directory, and the ODBC services were installed - hurray!
But now the services do not want to start. I first got the
error that the file was not found. It referenced to a slserver52
folder, which had only two directories called 'logging' and
'tracing', but no bin files whatsoever. There is however a
slserver54 folder, which contains all kind of stuff. So I started
regedit and changed all the references to 52 in 54, and rebooted
the server. Still no luck: now I get a 1067 error on the server and
an unknown error on the agent.
Any ideas??That is just what I did, but that didn't help. The installer
creates services that point to the slserver52 folder, but that
should be slserver54. When I change the directory in the registry,
the services won't start. The ODBC Agent sais:
"Could not start the ColdFusion MX ODBC Agent service on
Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be
an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the
problem persists, please contact your system administrator."
The ODBC Service returns the exact same error. -
I am upgrading to Calendar Server 4.0 on NT with more than 9 nodes
(or I already have) and my server won't start.
<P>
The steps are the same whether you have already upgraded or are about to.
<P>
Calendar Server 4.0 on the Windows NT platform can only support up to nine
nodes on one server, while 3.51 supported up to 14. If you have a Calendar
Server 3.51 with more than 9 nodes that you want to upgrade to Calendar Server
4.0, Netscape recommends that you migrate the extra nodes to another Calendar
Server 3.51 on another Windows NT system. To accomplish this:
<OL>
<LI>Install Calendar Server on another Windows NT machine and configure it to
use the same directory server as your current Calendar Server.
<LI>Stop and backup your current Calendar Server.
<LI>Individually zip up the node directories you want to move to the new
server. (drive:\unsers\unison\db\Nx
where "x" is the number of the node you want to use.)
<LI>Stop the new Calendar Server.
<LI>Unzip the files into the new Calendar Server in the same place as they
were on the old server.
<LI>Edit the unison.ini
file on the new server to add the nodes you have just migrated.
<LI>Edit the unison.ini
file on the old server to remove the nodes you have moved to the new server.
<LI>Edit the nodes.ini
file on the old server to remove the nodes you just moved and then add them
with the new hostname. Keep in mind that you will only be able to modify the
node network from the old host.
<LI>Run unidbfix -export
on both servers for all nodes.
<LI>Edit the remotenodes.ini
file on both servers to reflect your node topology.
<LI>Run unidbfix -import
to import the changes into the node databases.
<LI>Run unidbfix -c,
then -f,
then -c
again on both servers for all the nodes.
<LI>If you don't get any errors, run uninode -test all
to test if your nodes connections are set properly. If they are not, <B>do not</B>
start either of the servers; instead, fix the errors and try again.
<LI>Start both servers.
<LI>Log in and check to see if you can see people on remote nodes.
<LI>Notify the users on the moved nodes of their new calendar host.
<LI>If you did this in preparation of an upgrade, you can now run the upgrade to
4.0 since both servers contain fewer than 9 nodes.
</OL>Use Disk Utility whihc is in the Utilities Folder.
Select your Boot Disk on the left.
Select Verify Permissions
If any errors the do Reapir permissions.
You might have to repeat the process.

SQL Server Service won't start on SQL Server 2008
Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble starting SQL Server service after stopping and starting the service. Before this happened, I created a Stored Procedure for marking all tables at once along with a maintenance plan for differential backup on all my databases based on the
recommendation from this link, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms253070.aspx.
When I realized that the differential backup failed with some databases displaying (Restoring...) post-fix to the database name, I decided to stop SQL Server service and start it up. That is when I won't be able to start the service again.
Is there a fix for starting the SQL Server service? Any help is very much appreciated.
Additional information:
- With administrator permission granted.
- Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008 installed.
- Using default database instance.
- Tried C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.....\Binn>net start MSSQLSERVER /T3608 ( return msg: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied.
- When I start SQL Server service, I keep getting this dialog msg:
"Windowns could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1814."
The event log does not explain or provide any hint on how to fix the problem.

Can't create Java VM
Can anyone advise as to what I should do to solve this problem? The path contains an entry that points to Sun/AppServer/jdk/bin so I don't understand why it can't create a JVM.
I'm sorry to repeat a problem that many people have posted about in the past but I've went through all occurences for this problem but none of the solutions solve the problem.
Many thanks in advance.
IanSome more information on this problem.
I initially had Java installed in C:\Program Files\Java but one of the errors I initially got after I had installed the server was that my path had spaces in it so to solve this problem I removed Java completely from my system and then simply installed the J2EE bundle that contained the J2SE SDK, I'm assuming that by installing this alone a JVM will be installed with everything else won't it?
My path at the moment contains the following:
C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\jre\bin;C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin;C:\Sun\AppServer\bin;
C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;
Any help at all would be gratefully received as I have spent a long time trying to sort this problem and have got nowhere.
Many thanks in advance -
After Setting Up SSO Managed Server Won't Start
I am using the Oracle supplied white paper to set up SSO using Active Directory. Following those instructions everything was working and testing correctly until I added the NegotiateIdentityAsserter provider to the list of WLS providers. Now the managed server won't start. The admin server starts without any errors and goes to the RUNNING state. But the Start BI Services command window gets to the wls.alive: prompt and hangs. And hangs. Eventually the window goes away and it may throw an error but I've never seen it. You can login to the WLS console and EM without a problem. Remove the new provider and everything comes up normally. I have looked at the krb5.ini and krb5login.conf files and even rewritten them from scratch without any change in behavior.
While looking for answers I ran into the SPNEGOCheck webapp that Oracle makes available to diagnose problems. It says everything is OK until it parses the krb5login.conf and then complains that the Username associated with SPN in AD is blank and so doesn't match the SPN specified in the krblogin config. But I can't see anything wrong in the files themselves.

Server Intelligence Agent won't start after repair of Business Objects 4.0
I migrated our company's business objects contents and documents from previous BO 3.1 server to new BI 4.0 server using standard BI tools. (That is, using the export wizard in BO 3.1 to create BIAR file and using upgrade management tool to import this biar file to new BI 4.0 server).
After that, everything looks fine, I can log in to launch pad and can see all the folders, reports, etc have been moved over.
But Life Cycle Management stopped working. I guess the reason is, when I created the biar file from source 3.1 server, I basically included everything that may include LCM folder as well, and this folder overwrite the LCM folder in BI 4.0 server. In order to fix this issue, I did "repair" of BI platform. After this, the Server Intelligen Agent won't start.
Tried to log on to cmc, got error message
"Error: Server SERVERTest:6400 not found or server may be down (FWM 01003) null"
Tried to start the Server Intelligence Agent from "services", got message:"windows could not start the server intelligence agent (servertest) from local computer..." Checked the event log, no much useful information.
Can anyone please give me some ideas? what might have caused this issue? where should I look to? I hope we don't have to go through uninstall/reinstall.
thanks.Hi,
check the Task Manager if you have running the processes running "SIA.exe" ans "cms.exe"

Microsoft Forefront Server Protection Eventing Service won't start?
Hi Guys,
When Forefront Protection for Exchange was integrated/enabled on our SBS 2008 server, Microsoft Forefront Server Protection Eventing Service won’t start. Even when we try to start it manually we are getting this message (see attached). During this attempt,
we got these events in the event viewer. In this case, in order to have our email working, we have to temporarily disable Forefront. Any suggestion how to fix this? Please advise.

ArnelHi Arnel,
Based on error messages, it indicates a log file (inc.log) has become corrupted. Please restore the log file
from a backup copy, and then check if this issue can be solved. For more details, please refer to the following article.

Hope this helps.

Wrong JRE Runtime Lib Path on Win2K--Admin Server Won't Start
Running Sun One Web Server 6.0 SP6 on a Windows 2000 server, I inadvertently entered a typo in the iPlanet Administration Server's Global Settings, "Configure JRE/JDK Paths" link.
In the "JRE Runtime Lib Path" field I typed "jjk1.3.1_03" instead of "jdk1.3.1_03". Now the Sun One web server won't start, so I can't go into the Administrative Server to fix the Jre Runtime Lib Path. I havent' been able to find any file where I can change that erroneous setting either. Is it a Registry entry?
I also tried adding the correct JRE Runtime Lib Path at the end of the Windows PATH environment variable on the server, but that didn't help.Yes we checked the Registry settings and fixed the typo in the path associated with the key NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH. That should have fixed the problem, but the Sun One web server still wouldn't start.
Moved to plan B and removed then reinstalled the Sun One web server. Now it starts and all is well.
Thanks for helping everyone. This also raised the issue for us of whether or not we are entitled to individual support from Sun since we paid for the Sun One web server. According to the web site, the answer is NO - unless we pay $3,000 for a support contract. Other vendors who recommended using Sun One with their products say YES. We're still tracking that down. -
Agent service won't start on Windows server
Having bounced the Windows 2003 server (64 bit) the instance and listener started up automatically as set in the "services" but the Agent (which WAS running fine)would not start automatically so I tried to manuall start it in the services...a pop up message states it could not start service and to look in event log for details...
find this in event log:
The description for Event ID ( 4 ) in Source ( Oracleagent10gAgent ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 03/13/08 13:52:14 agent exited with retCode 55..
find this in the agent.trc:

Any ideas? Is there something simple to do or should I try re-install the agent?Man, I just love to ask questions then answer them myself:-)
The reason for all this was the recent change to daylight savings time here!
The agent (10.2.0.2) will keep running just fine until the server is bounced then it won't start until you apply patch (5884103)...thanks Mike at Metalink! -
I am complete newbie to doing admin for Crystal Servers, forgive the question:
(Win Server 2003 r 2 / CR XI)
Report Application Server won't start which is preventing other servers from starting in CCM.
Reboot machine several times and still having the issue.
Get an error msg in Windows before login window appears stating that the crystalras.exe application requested a runtime to terminiate in an unusual way (.Net error).
I get the following error msg in my event viewer.

We installed some Windows Server Updates about 3 months ago (at the time, over 70 Windows updates were installed) but, this problem hasn't shown up until 2 or 3 weeks ago. I think a .Net Service Pack might have been part of the updates at that time. When we did the updates, Windows was shutdown and updates installed per the preferred option of Windows. But now when rebooting since that time, the server continually reccomends the install updates and shutdown option. Do we need to rollback the server to date prior those updates if possible?
I have also uninstalled .Net Framework back to 2.0. Is 1.0 or 1.1 the max that will work with XI?
Should I also try to uninstall all other Windows updates?
Thanks in advance for any help, EdPost this query to the [Business Objects Enterprise Administration|BI Platform; forum.
