Too much pressure? - broken mouse
Earlier today I had my macbook in my school knapsack while i got on a flight. It was in a separate spot the whole time, but had quite a bit of pressure pushing flat on top of it because the bag was packed. It was probably in there for about 7 hours. Now that I've pulled it out and tried to use it, I find a very strange problem. The keyboard works fine, and the cursor works fine, but the computer doesn't respond when I move the cursor over anything. Also, the mouse click has no effect, probably because the computer doesn't know that the cursor is clicking on the icon. Has anyone had this problem before? Can I fix it? Can a macbook store/genius fix it? Or have I just screwed my computer over?

I tend to put my bag upside down whenever I have my laptop in it so that the weight is never on top of my laptop. My laptop would simply rest on top with the rest.
As for your specific situation, try resetting your Macbook including the SMC (which also controls the system's I/O ports). If not, then you may have to get the keyboard/mouse chassis replaced. That can cost upwards off USD $150, check the Apple Store for exact price.

White spot after too much pressure on the screen
So, while cleaning my screen, I accidentally pressed too hard, and now there is like a white spot in the middle of the screen. I can only see it on dark backgrounds, like blue or black or whatever. Can this be repaired or is my poor little Macbook screen doomed to have a white spot forever? Cause that would be really sad, it hasn't even been a month since I got it.

Absolutely, the screen will only take so much pressure before the screen will break! Depending on your model that would be a very expensive repair.

USB Mouse Draining Too Much Power
I have a 22" Cinema Display and I keep my USB Power Mac Mouse attached to the USB port in the back, but now both ports give the error message that the "USB Device" requires too much power. I can plug it into the keyboard and it works fine, does anyone know what is going on?
BradBummer. Oh well, it's lasted 41/2 years, and the Display is still looking good. Thanks for the info, I figured it was that but I wanted to be sure. It's strange both USB ports went out at once. Thanks again.

In Safari, my iMac sometimes zooms way too much and will not zoom back. I have a wireless mouse set to zoom in and out on double tap, but the excessive zooms happen with no taps. A page zooms in so less than 1/4 of the page is visible and nothing I do will zoom back out, command minus doesn't do it, double tap on mouse does not zoom out, and the window will not scroll to show any of the rest of the page. reloading the page does not help. Loading a different page gives me a normal view again.
If it were a tweaked setting, it should happen less randomly. And there should be no settings that could override the zoom setting in unversal Access and the Mouse zoom preferences.
In addition, this only happens in Safari 6, and seems to happen more fredquently on some websites and not on others. That suggests some sort of conflict in the site code with Safari and Apple wireless mouse code. It does not happen in Mail, Word, Excel, Photoshop, Illustrator, or other software as far as I can tell. -
I have a 27" iMac with a broken hard drive. Is there a way to convert the existing hardware into a display monitor without too much technical work?
You don't state what iMac it is or what you want to use it for an external display with so we cannot answer the question. But without a bootable drive, no you cannot. However you can get the internal HD replaced or you can connect an external HD and boot from it. Without some basics about the computer it's impossible question to answer. MacBook pro 13" mid 2010 "USB drawing too much power" HELP
Hi, my MacBook Pro keeps coming up with a window about 30 after start up saying "USB drawing too much power" and none if the USB ports work neither does the iSight camera (green light is constantly on) and the headphone jack won't work! I have tried re installing OSX but it hasn't worked! Apart from an SMC reset and a PRAM what else can I try? Absolutely nothing is plugged in not a single cable or keyboard or mouse just my MacBook on its own, is it definitely a software problem or am I going to have to get apple to repair the hardware because I do not have that much money to replace a logic board and get apple to replace it themselves. Thanks in advance!

I've now installed the ad blocker, thrown away the unwanted files, and thrown away a copy of Firefox that Adware said had a problematic extension.
Things are better, but still slow.
Activity Monitor shows that with just Mail, Chrome and Excel running, 2.9GB of my 4GB RAM is used. Opening InDesign (always slow) increase that to 3.2GB. But the graph stays green.
Console shows several potential problems but I don't know if any are significant. In any case I will call my Mac store tomorrow to ask their advice about RAM.

- Try another charging source

Ipod Touch (2nd gen) drawing too much power, disable USB?
Earlier today, when my iPod Touch (2nd gen) was syncing with iTunes, it disconnected and this error message popped up:
Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device darwing too much power has been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing to much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.
Now, my Ipod will not sync or charge. I've tried connecting other USB devices (cell phone, wireless mouse and ehd) and get the same message. I've tried a few suggestions online like: restarting/shutting down the computer, restarting the IPod, resetting the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. None of these worked. I've connected my iPod to my roommate's iMac and it connected with no problem. Is there anything else I can do before using the Genius bar?

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?

I know it's a long post, but I just want to describe everything I've tried to do to solve the problem, so we can cut right to the chase
Yesterday I got this message when I plugged in my external harddrive (which is working properly btw): "A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The port it is attached to will be deactivated."
Today I haven't seen the message, but the USB port next to the Shift key on my MacBook isn't working very well.
Well, actually it works when I plug in my other external harddrive (which isn't usb-powered). So it seems that there's nothing wrong with the USB port itself. It just doesn't have the power it used to.
My USB-dongle from Cubase works fine. I tried another USB memory stick - it flashes very lightly and it won't mount. The other USB port - the one next to Caps Lock - works fine and it can even provide power enough for my MIDI keyboard and external soundcard.
I've tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM and the SMC as people often suggest when this problem is described, but it doesn't help.
I've tried to do a full system check, and it says that there's no hardware errors.
I can imagine, that some would assume that the USB port is fried - but it can't be when the externally powered harddrive works fine when using the port.
I think is has to be some sort of software error. Is it possible that when OSX tells that "The port it is attached to will be deactivated" then the port needs to be reactivated somewhere?

I have five 24" iMacs in a education lab that keep telling me "USB Current Overload," even though only the Apple keyboard is attached. It seems they starting giving me the message the first time I turned them on. However, after a great talk with an Apple Tech person, we deduced that it must be a driver I installed on the five machines. We came to this conclusion because when I boot the machine from the OS CD, the problem doesn't happen. When I reboot from the hard drive, the message incessantly pops up, even with just the keyboard and mouse (that it came with) plugged in. On one machine in particular, the message pops up so many times that I can barely use the machine.
I have installed two external devices driver's on this machine, a Novation ReMote Compact SL driver and a TC Electronics 24 D firewire driver. I also have "frozen" these machines using DeepFreeze, which keeps students from installing things or chaning settings. My assumption is that one of these drivers is causing the bogus message. Since the computer works fine when booting up from the OS CD, this is the only thing that could be happening. Some other driver is causing the machine to think a USB device is drawing too much power. At least, I think this is what is happening. I'm still working on fixing this problem, but have not been successful yet with removing drivers. -
MacBook error "USB Port has drawn too much power"

I recently found a external hard drive and accidentally forgot to switch the volt down on my power brick, and ended up with 24 volts charging up to my white macbook 2008. It immediately shut down and i could smell some smoke coming from the usb port where i plugged in my ext. HD. I pulled it out immediately and it saw no physical damage to the port. When i turned it on, i got this message

I restarted my laptop again hoping it would go away but it kept popping up every time. I plugged in a mouse and it didn't turn on, so i plugged it in to the other usb port and it blinked for a moment and turned off, which i presumed it was being disabled. I did SMC my laptop but that didn't work and i could faintly distinct the smell from my usb port still. Did my USB port get burnt? How to i re-enable my USB port?No, my apple charger came with my Macbook, the switchable power brick was for the hard drive.
