Tosiba satellite c850d-b616 windows 7 sp 1 failed installation

Hello all.
A colleague has this laptop but it was installed with a strange windows 7. Was giving a lot of problems so decided to run a fresh install.
Running the installation of windows 7 pro sp 1 32bit but keep getting a strange error. Just before it finishes installing the first part before rebooting, it gives the following error:
windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware.
Have tried running the disk in compatability mode and AHCI to no avail.
Am at a loss as to what to do next. Ideas will be much appreciated.

  • Windows 8 64-bit, failed installations and RAID 1 resync on HP ENVY h8-1520z

I recently purchased an HP Envy h8-1520z with a single SSD and 8 GB RAM running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.  I installed 2 Western Digital 500 GB WDC WD5000AAKX-001CA0 HDDs on SATA ports 5 & 6 and configured them as RAID 1 in the BIOS.  I have started installing apps on the RAID 1 array (E since the SSD is only 256 GB.
While installing software, some install fine, but often the installation hangs with no errors indicated and I have to kill the installer task through task manager.  I usually follow that with a system shutdown or restart and almost every time that results in a resync of the RAID array.  Sometimes the shutdown or restart is quick, and other times it takes several minutes with intermittent disk activity as indicated by the drive light.  I have sometimes given up after 10 minutes or so and powered down by holding down the power button.  I can understand a resync after the forced power down, but it seems that all it takes to cause a resync is a failed installation, and that seem to happen a lot, even with software that explicitly says it is Windows 8 compatible.  Sometimes the applications run fine even after an apparently failed installation and other times not so much.
Has anybody else seen this behavior or have any suggestions?  I’d like to get this sorted out before I load any more software.

    Hi,
Did you check each hard drive for straps? There should not be any straps installed on the hard drive. These drives do have strapping posts.
Did you use the AMD RaidExpert to create the array volume?  Did you wait until the RAID migration was complete before using the array volume?
Check the AMD RaidExpert for errors. It's possible that you have a bad hard drive(s).
Many applications want to be installed on the C drive.  Your SSD is 256GB so you should have plenty of space for most applications and the application performance will be improved.  Use the RAID 1 array to keep and store your data. The mirroring process of RAID 1 will protect it in case one hard drive fails.
You might want to consider removing all of the data etx.. from the array, use the AMD RAIDExpert to delete out the array volume.  I would then run for hard drive diagnostics.  If the hard drives are free from errors then use disk management to separately reformat each hard drive.  Now go back to the AMD RaidExpert and create your new array volume.
Be sure to review the software and bios updates for your PC.

  • Unable to load Windows 7 on Satellite C850D

I purchased this Satellite C850D in May this year and it had Win 8 pre-loaded. My son did not like it so I decided eventually to remove it and load Win 7. I took the hard drive out and formatted and repartioned the hard drive but when I have returned it and attempted to load Win 7 I get problems.
Initially i could not get anything to work then v=changed the BIOS settings from UEFI to allow booting but now I continually get
pxe-e61 error media test failure, check cable
    pxe-m0f exiting pxe rom
reboot and select proper boot device
I have removed the network capability with no luck as the hard drive is located in the BIOS settings and have attempted changing the boot order
I have attempted to boot from USB, from CD/DVD and also loading direct to hard drive but nothing...and now told no operating system.
    Is there a workaround?
Please help as i am getting to the point of throwing the laptop against the wall haha

At the beginning I must say that I really hope you have created recovery media for original Win8 that you can use if you want to have factory settings again.
Anyway, I don't understand what happen there but before we start to discuss about this issue check please follow documents

  • Satellite C850D-11C PSCC2E - CHIPSET driver for Win 7 64bit needed

    Hi,
I've been stuck in a long convo over at the techsupportforum and was finally told to try here.
    So, I own a Satellite C850D-11C PSCC2E with Windows 7 x64.
I can't seem to find the chipset driver for my laptop in the list of drivers.
I first tried to install all available drivers, but it's obvious without a chipset I will have problems, and I do.
The USB ports don't work like they should etc.
Where is the chipset driver for the C850D-11C PSCC2E?
    Thanks!

    Hi
Your notebook is equipped with an Ati (AMD) graphic chip.
This means that the chipset must be from AMD too.
According to some information which i found in internet, the AMD A68M Chipset should be built in the notebook.
Furthermore as far as I know the ATI chipset driver is part of the ATI/AMD graphic card driver and therefore you should install the GPU driver to get the chipset driver installed

  • Switching my Satellite C850D ON

Even simply turning a laptop ON is a problem for me, to say, I know nothing about computers.
In the manual for my Satellite C850D it says press the ON button 2-3 seconds. I do time this by counting the exact number of seconds. Still, sometimes the laptop turns on, other times the on light turns off and the screen goes black, laptop is off. Or the start screen comes on, then the screen goes black and laptop is turned off again.
This means on some days I have to press the ON button several times, each time counting the requisite number of seconds, before the laptop turns on. Is this not bad for the hard drive?
More importantly, is this normal, the ON button being so very sensitive? Is there anything that can be done to change this, so I can just press the button and the laptop turns on, every time, and not just sometimes?

Sorry mate but this is definitely not normal notebook behaviour.
To power ON the notebook I never had to count the seconds
Just simply press the button (touch it gently until the power LED would be ON) and release it.
I dont know if your notebook is set to hybrid shutdown but you should check the following document:
[Perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm]
In case the fast startup is enabled, the hybrid shutdown will be performed.
I would recommend you to disable this option (Remove the checkmark at Turn on fast startup)
Apply the changes and power OFF the unit as mentioned at the end of the document (select Power and click on Shut down)
I think this changes the power button behaviour.

  • Satellite C850D-B600 - troubles with AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics

    Hi,
I have laptop Toshiba Satellite C850D-B600 with AMD Dual-Core Processor E1-1200 CPU with AMD Radeon™ HD 7310 Graphics
I tried the last version in the official site and I tried AMD Official Site and I got massage says (the version of your graphics adapter is not supported) and when I tried to install Toshiba driver the graphic card does not work too.
When I tried to open AMD vision engine control centre I got this massage says (AMD vision engine control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD vision engine control center).
Please could you help me :(

    Hi
May I ask you what system did you install and what driver did you try to install from Toshiba driver page?
It seems that this notebook Satellite C850D-B600 was released without any preinstalled Windows system and therefore it would be useful to know what system you are using.
You should also know that the Radeon HD 7310 graphic is a part of CPU. Yes, this is not external graphic unit but its intergraded in CPU.
Regarding the AMD vision engine control center
    >AMD vision engine control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD vision engine control center
The AMD Vision Control Center offers additional CPU monitoring options from within the Control Center. I think the above message appears because there are no settings which could be configured. But this does not mean that the driver would not work.

  • Satellite C850D-107 - Game Recommendations

Hello, I'm looking for a couple of game recommendations for my laptop. I have the Satellite C850D-107. It has:
    - AMD Dual-Core E1-1200 APU with AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics
    - Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
    - 4GB RAM
    - 640GB hard drive
I've got Battlefield Bad Company 2 which works extremely well on it, and a couple of the older Total War games. I'm looking for something that has simialr specs to Battlefield in the form of another shooter or driving game. Would any of these work:
    - Ghost Recon Advanced warfighter 1 or 2
    - Silent Hunter 4
    - any of the newer star wars games e.g. Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy
Thanks to anyone who can help out
    Pete

Yeah I thought that but I know how to use a computer but not how it works and with the variations in specs it's a bit mind boggling. Anyway I've got a couple of cheap games off Amazon - star wars battlefront 1 & 2, plus I've rediscovered a couple of the Total War games - Rome and Medieval 2 so I think I'm set now.
    Thanks for the responses.

  • Screen turns blue and Satellite C850D-11Q shut down

I bought a Satellite C850D-11Q runnings Windows 8 from Curry's in the UK for my daughter just before Christmas- was a very good price under 300- however she says that she will be browsing on the internet and or doing a variety of other tasks (no particular process seems to be implicated) and suddenly the screen will turn blue and the computer will shut down and reboot for no apparent reason. It has done this at least 30 times in a month.

BSOD means that there is either an hardware problem or serious software issue.
The BSOD can be caused by high temperature as well as RAM problems.
So its not easy to say what cause the BSOD.
Ensure that notebook is cooled properly.
Furthermore if temperature is not the problem, try to recover the system using the recovery options described in user manual and in this document:

    Satellite C850D
Touch pad way to sensitive3 or broke keeps flipping over pages when touching pad
    very annoying

So what system are you using? Win 8?
In such case I recommend changing and modifying the touchpad settings.
Here is an nice HowTo which I found on the Toshiba page:
*How to change the Synaptics touchpad settings in Windows 8?*

Change the sensitivity and test it again.

  • Re: Cannot install display driver on my Satellite C850D-109

    Satellite C850D-109 PSC9SE
I'am trying to install the Display drivers. I downloaded the correct drivers from the driver download section.
The unpacking and UAC comes up and i click yes.. Then nothing happens after that.
    Whats wrong.?
Its a clean Windows install without all the crapware.
EDIT: And where do i find the SM/chipset drivers?

Yes you may. To remove all the crapware Toshiba installs that i have no use for and only slow down the pc.
I'ts a clean iso(USB install) downloaded from technet. Phone registration was required and done.
And no. I have not made a recovery cd.. All other laptop i fixed have ALL drivers available for download so why use that when Windows install is just as easy(normally) and does not include old drivers and software.
*I have fixed it now.* But not with customized Toshiba drivers.
    Chipset drivers downloaded from wikidrivers.
And Display drivers works with a old version. 12.7 Not available from Toshiba.
Its just not ok Toshiba.. Not one driver installs from Windows update not even LAN..... That's user friendly.. Or not.

  • Re: Satellite C850D wont start-up

    Hi
Yesterday my Toshiba Satellite C850D laptop with Windows 8.1 did an update when I turned it on, it took a while and once it got to 100% it said it ran into a problem and needed to restart which it did with no worry. It worked fine all day, didn't miss a beat. Then this morning when I turned it on the normal Toshiba logo popped up but then a greyish coloured screen with a flickering small line in the top left hand corner appeared and it wont load further then that screen.
Every button on the keyboard I press makes a loud beeping sound. I have pressed f2 and f12 as it tells me too under the Toshiba logo to no help. Could this be from the update? Also can someone please try and help me?
    Many thanks.

I would recommend you to start the system repair function.
Power up the unit and press F12.
Now you will see different bootable devices as well as the HDD recovery.
    Choose this option.
    Details:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
Then you will get new menu providing different options. Here choose: Troubleshoot and Advanced Options. In Advanced Options choose Automatic repair
    Hope this fix the problem

  • Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant failed on Satellite P775

I tried running the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on my Satellite P775.
    It started by displaying
Checking Components; download Windows 8 Components data.
    Reading Components.
Got component TOSHIBA Wireless LAN Indicator
    ... etc ...
Got Component TOSHIBA Contrasena de supervisor
    Reading Windows Components.
    then displayed a Message Box
"Failed to read Target (Windows 8) INI file."
    How can I solve this?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
    Yes I followed that procedure.
My model is Satellite P775-112 PSBY3E and is listed as being compatible
After installing Windows 8, I noticed that the DVD drive was no longer accessible, as described in the following thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=68222&tstart=0
So I disabled the Windows Service "Toshiba Optical Disc Drive Service" (TODDSrv.exe 1.0.0.8), and the DVD drive is now visible. However Toshiba Video Player still does not work (says it has compatibility issues) and I can not view DVD videos.
I then ran the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, which failed immediately with the error "Failed to read Target (Windows 8) INI file".
I found some posts on the forum with a similar error with the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant (Failed to read Target (Windows 7) INI file. None of the posts has a clear description of what this error means but I've tried all of the suggestions.
    Here's a list of what I've tried:
    - Rebooted
    - Upgraded BIOS to latest version (2.10)
    - Run Upgrade Assistant as Administrator
    - Run Upgrade Assistant with "Toshiba Optical DIsc Drive Service TODDSrv.exe 1.0.0.8 started or stopped.
My main problems at the moment are:
    - Toshiba Optical DIsc Drive Service causes DVD drive to disappear
    - Toshiba Video Player won't run
    - No way to view DVDs
I'd be happy to install the drivers and applications individually if the Upgrade Assistant doesn't work - is there anywhere I can download them?

  • Satellite C850-1KN - Windows 8.1 Freeze

    Hi,
I have tried the search function but cannot find the help I require.
My Satellite C850-1KN (windows 8.1) has been freezing a lot recently but I am still able to use the mouse pointer, CTRL + ALT + DEL has no effect and the computer won't do anything, I am forced to shut it down via keeping my finger on the power button or taking out the battery.
I have ran a SFC /scannow check and receive the following:-
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them..."
Please find the log in the following post
Sometimes the screen also stays black and will not respond to any inputs, this appears to be happening more and more. If any one can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Windows Event viewer shows 2 critical failures at the time of the last incident, both of which are Kernal-Power and refer to not shutting down cleanly (obviously because I have had to keep my finger on the button).
There are a few "Errors" in the log, the most surprising of which is the Microsoft Bing News app which logged just before the incident, could this be the cause of trouble?
    Thanks in advance

Your notebook was delivered with Win8 so I presume you have updated it to Win8.1 version.
Have you updated your machine following Toshiba instructions?
To be honest it is not easy to answer such questions and say for sure what the problem is.
If you have this issue since few days only I recommend you to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool just to see if the problem persist or not.
How to do this you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
Do at as first step please and post some feedback.
By the way: have you created recovery disc before you have installed Win8.1 update?

How to defrag & cleanup Satellite C650 with Windows 7?

    Hello,
Moreover I can suggest you to:
    1) Perform a regular disk error-checking (check this as an instruction http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors)
    2) Perform a virus scanning with an antivirus e.g. Microsoft Security Essentials
    3) Check you computer for performance issues and resolve them (go to Start => type 'Performance Information and Tools' hit Enter, in a new window on the left side click 'Advanced tools' and review the performance issues enlisted (if any).
    Good Luck!
