Total iWeb Frustration

I admit, I am not a computer or software wizard.  I have spent all weekend trying to put back together a couple of web sites. But the combination of iWeb no longer being supported, upgrading to 10.7, and moving my sites away from Mobile Me to 1&1 has me so flummoxed I am about ready to find a cliff to jump.
Here is the story:
I have a web page I created in iWeb with several sites. I have tried both publishing to the local folder as well as to the FTP Server.  I have moved all of my sites to individual domains.
I spent much of the weekend trying to figure out the online directions on how to shorten my web address to just www.handsoftheshepherd.com, but every tutorial or written directions are just too complicated.  So I guess I will live with just www.handsoftheshepherd.com/main
I can get my main page to publish online, but cannot get the links to the other sites(domains) to work. No links to the other sites work.  I am not sure if the formating is correct, or if soemthing else is wrong. And I read online that the idex.html is important, but I don't understand what to do with them.
What is so maddening is that iWeb used to be so dang user friendly.  And now I can't even get a my web page online.  Nothing online, either written or in video, helps me.  I just wish someone could talk me through this.  Then I would have it.
I hate the thought of spending the time to move all of this to Rapidweaver.
Sorry, just had to vent.
Tom

Its probably a lot easier to understand what's going on with the files on the server if you can actually see them. An FTP application allows you to see both the local files and the remote ones...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
iWeb produces a folder and an index.html file. If you upload both to the root folder on the server you will get the folder name (which is the same as the site name in iWeb) in the URL like so...
http://www.domain-name.com/SIte-Name/Page-Name.html
There's also a copy of the index.html file inside the folder so you can upload the contents - rather than the folder itself. See this page...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/URLs-Favicons.html
The index.html file produced by iWeb is just a redirect to the "Home" or "Landing" page of your site which is the page at the top of the list in the left column of the iWeb window.

  • Total NAS frustration!

I thought I would be clever and get the only NAS ont he apple store a SMARTDISK one.
I initially got it set up fine.
I then unplugged it from the network and plugged it in using USB as I wanted to transfer my itunes library, it was going to take a day on the network side. This all went fine.
Now plugging it back into the network, the mac cannot connect to it no matter what.
So far I have levelled my router incase that was an issue. I have restarted the mac and I have tried connecting in various ways.
I am able to log into the configuration pages of the NAS through safari with little problem, although for some reason I have to first got my router login page first.
The NAS will on occasion (apparently totally randomly) appear in the network window, but when I click it it says the alias was broken and did I want to fix it?
I have been faffing around with this now for around 3hours and am left wondering precisely what it is Apple Bonjour is supposed to do because this NAS box supports it and its currently active.
Any advice on how I can proceed?
I have tried turning everything off and on again etc etc.

Hi Gary, Did you get sorted ??? I have exactly the same problem - Connected to my PB G4 directly is fine connected to my Netgear hub no sign of the NAS ...going Mad !! Cheers

  • First Ever Time using iweb, Advise needed

OK.. I have never even opened iweb before let alone used it!
5 minutes later I have what I wanted..!!!
    It seems extremely intuitive.
My first project is very simple. I have scanned a family Christmas card picture and want to create a site where friends and family can click the link and the card opens up and plays a Christmas Carol!
I added my Christmas Carol though itunes, I dragged my picture from iphoto into the box and resized it nicely on a blank background.
    I saved my creation. But..
    - How do I do a save as? .. If I click save, then where do I find my work next time?
    - How do I view the website as if it was already posted? so I can see what it really looks like?
    - My .mac DVD is on it's way from Amazon, so when it is active I assume that I just press the publish button and apple will do the rest... right?
    - Any gems of advise for this total iweb rookie would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks for any advise!
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
There is no "Save as" menu option in iWeb. Your work in iWeb is saved in the application with a name that is also an integral part of a potential url, should you choose to publish the site from iWeb for uploading to a server. If a "Save as" option was available for a site created in iWeb, it would wreak havoc for most users--it simply isn't necessary.
iWeb is different from most applications you are accustomed to in that it saves all of your work to a single file, Domain.sites. This file lives on your hard drive in your Home folder's Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2. This is the file you would want to backup frequently for work created in the application.
You can easily view your work in iWeb by using the file menu, File/Publish to a folder..., and by choosing your Desktop as the "folder" destination. Two things will appear on your Desktop: an index.html file, and a Site folder. Just double-click on the index.html file and you will see your site from your default browser application, just as you would see it if it were on the internet.
Once you have established a .Mac account, you are right--one-click publishing will be available. It's a great feature, and I suggest browsing your way around on what will then be your portion of the iDisk, (.Mac server space). The .Mac server is a very useful tool once you understand all of the ways it can be utilized.
Click on the blue "i" from the lower menu in iWeb; this is the "Inspector" tab, and it is your ultimate tool box for this application. Choose the Quicktime icon from the Inspector menu, and you will be given options for making your music perform on your site the way you want.
    Have fun with iWeb!
    -Mark

  • Delete old Iweb published site not saved

Hi Team, My compter crashed and I have a published website, but I dont have a backup of the files that created it. I have heard you cant download all of it and I have to start again. How do I delete it and start again??????? I have read how to get the bits and pieces back but I don't want it to count against my total iweb allowance.

First, you could look at this page for help in retrieving stuff......
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
If you rebuild the site with the same name and publish it to MobileMe, you will overwrite the original or you can go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and delete the website folder and the index.html file.

  • ANOTHER Lenovo Y50 case defect issue and terrible customer service

I don't normally do forums but have been so infuriated by Lenovo customer service I felt obliged to sign up and share my experience.
I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 in November 2014. Within one month I noticed a small plastic part near the hinge was missing (i.e. I noticed the other side was intact and how it should look). I sent this to Lenovo for repair and received a call 5 mins ago to say this won't be repaired under warranty and that I will have to pay for it. This is absolutely outrageous and from the number of posts on this very forum it appears this is a common defect with this particular case. I asked the customer service rep if there was anything he could do and all i received was a very short blunt manuscript response, exhibiting no intention to help. I am not prepared to pay for shoddy design/workmanship and so my only option offered was to receive the laptop back unrepaired.
This is absolutely incredible that a company as big as Lenovo can treat their customers in such a fashion. Unless an administrator on this forum wishes to investigate this matter (as it's currently still with Lenovo repair centre) I certainly won't make the mistake of buying or recommending a Lenovo again.

So Lenovo/Medio have had my laptop for 20 days now. 2 weeks ago I was told they wouldn't repair it under warranty and would return it unrepaired. Still nothing. I called customer service yday who promised to investigate and get in touch. Nothing. I called again today, same response i.e. would investigate. It seems there is a huge communication problem between Lenovo and their Medion repair centre.
I am now looking into a legal resolution as surely under the sale of goods act it is illegal to retain an item for so long despite no repair actually taking place. You would also think Lenovo would have the decency to offer to repair the small damage (which I was quoted £80 for) as compensation for delay. But alas no, what Lenovo know about customer service is less than 0.
The fact a representative hasn't even bothered to respond on here is testimony to their lack of care and respect for customers.
    Yours truly

  • How To Test Core2Duo Processor for defects?

    All,
as I still have frequent crashing programs on my C2D (E6300) machine,
I now want to check whether the processor is defect or not.
Anybody any idea, how one can do a processor-check?
I did run memtest86 with no errors and also tried a prime95 run for 24hrs
without any problem. Also, SiSoft Sandra did not encounter any problems,
    3DMark06 runs okay as well.
    Thanks for tips,

Thanks Frankenputer, was wondering how to do that.
    Hello again!
I still have the problem of crashes!!
In the meantime I have found that only certain programs crash. These are:
    - Need for Speed Underground II (5-15 minutes after start)
    - Grand Prix II (5-10 minutes after start)
    - Zone Labs Pro sometimes crashes during boot, thus disabling internet access
I have run two instances of Prime 95 for 24 hours with no problem!
The way to have Prime95 run on a particular processor is to create a link with the following
    command line:
    <Path>\PRIME95.EXE -a0
This runs Prime95 on Core0. Using -a1 runs it on Core 1, respectively.
    But back to my problem.
I have installed Windows 2000 Professional on another harddisk - the same results with the above programs !!
The only difference is that I do not get any message but the programs simply crash.
    Windows still runs afterwards.
I am about to get totally confused, frustrated, ...
    Any more help?

  • Hot to import from IOS 8 "collections" into iPhoto?

Umm... Ok so everything's changed again and it's a big mystery.
How do I import photos from the new iPhone IOS 8 "collections" into iPhoto?
When I connect my iPhone, iPhoto only accesses and displays the "Recently Added" photos, which apparently is only the last 30 days. However there are many more photos on my phone, which are found now in the "Collections" view. Good grief why do they do this? Thank you.

Edit: Not even the photos appearing in iPhoto are accurate. There are some from well over 30 days ago, and some I took yesterday that do not appear in iPhoto with the iPhone connected. Totally random, frustrating, thanks Apple.

  • Can not activate new DSL account

Where can I get a new password for the internet. Have spent 4 hrs with oversea support with no result. They sent me a new modem figuring that would work. The activation software said there is an account for my phone line and asks for a password I do not have and then shuts off the internet. This has been going on for four days and am total;ly frustrated and wondering if its all worth it. Please help.

  • Too much charged..

Since I came to Korea, I suspended my service, and my credit card was blocked due to security problems.
I forgot to change my automatic payment information.
Then, Verizon just charged the bill which i couldn't payment, plus the bill which I suspended period, and also some extra 260 dollars for penalty.
Since I am currently not in USA, I have tried to call service center but every time it was failed to reach customer service center.
It makes totally me frustrated and I feel so disappointed for verizon customer service...

  • Merging 2 separate accounts???

Does anyone know who to merge to accounts? My computer only will read my account and not my husbands. I get a prompt that asks if I want to erase and sync his and merge my music. I do not want to do that but want both iPods reconized by my computer.

Below is the email I sent to Apple's helpline (no response yet):
    1. I own 2 iPods; the Nano and Classic (my daughter's and mine, respectively). I am trying SO HARD to sync our two DIFFERENT sets of music to EACH of our iPods, but your software KEEPS lumping all music together, and trying separate them has become an unpleasant nightmare!! We have 4200 songs between the two of us. How do I do this EASILY……please????
    2. I've created a new Playlist Folder for my daughter's music and copied all her music into this folder, but when I sync it, it ALWAYS syncs a few songs too short of the full total (very frustrating, about 7 songs). What am I doing wrong???
    Thank you.

  • IWeb 1.1 is totally useless - avoid it

I upgraded to iWeb 1.1 yesterday and since then I have been totally unable to publish my two web sites.
I am getting continual errors of all kinds, for instance :-
Halfway through the upload I am told the internet connection is not available, so it fails.
    or
My iDisk quotas can't be read (which they clear can as I can see them in iWeb)
    or
It fails loading an image (never the same one each time I try)
    or
I get another error message with some gibberish and a long file name.
Basically I have not been able to publish anything since the upgrade.
Also when I check the network traffic while it is trying to do the upload, once it fails the traffic continues and it still uploads data, but what? iWeb continues to send data even after it had errored and says it has stopped.
I have tried creating a new site and still get the same issues, fails at some point in the upload.
This is a really terrible update and I only hope I can reinstall iWeb 1.0 and republish my sites that way.
    Ian

Yeah. I can totally understand your frustration.
I think with regards to support it is tricky. As someone who has had to give technical support on many occasions it becomes difficult to pin down when the problems are not across the board. So some people have no problems and others like yourself have quite a few. If everyone had the same problems you can pin down the issue pretty much straight away by looking for the common factors.
I think that is what makes this tricky. Its the fact that not everyone is having the same issues.
What is unique about this update is it is actually structured more like an upgrade than an update as it is adding new features. If it was just addressing issues with existing features it would probably be relatively problem free but as they have added new features there is only a certain amount of testing they can do. As someone who has had experience with this. Trust me there are many problems which only become apparent after release. I am not saying that makes it okay by any means.
Usually in these instances with any regular upgrade it would be given to beta testers for a significant period of time but this is something that is seldom possible with an update due to time constraints and user demand.
What you may find, is an iWeb 1.1.1 update very soon.
So I completely understand your frustrations. I really do. Its just as someone who hasn't really come across any issues (yet at least) I can't complain about this update.

  • Frustrating to publish with iweb Ahhhhhhhhh!!

I would like to say that iweb seems like an amazing application! I have been so excited by the release. I built a truly amazing web site in a short period of time! I was so excited by it's simple design and ease of use that I told everybody I'd come in contact with about it all the while I was making my site. that is until................ I can't seem to publish it!
I have been trying to publish a site for the last three weeks to no avail except for a one and only time! I have tried everything in my bag of tricks. I have read all the posts here contacted tech support several times all with no satisfaction.
I have been a long time mac user/supporter/advocate and am pretty proficient with them. I almost never have to call tech support and usually find that when I do, I have an equal or better understanding of my mac than they do. Now don't get me wrong there have been times when they have helped me solve my problem and always seem eager to help and I have always been appreciative of their being. It's just that my last conversation with them and thier pathetic answer left an aweful foul tast in my mouth!
My last series of phone calls to tech support ended with apple telling me that the problem was with my internet connection. Now I know that they were as frustrated with my problem as I was but for them to put this thing to rest and get me off their back by telling me that this is my problem? Well it's just plain not acceptable!
I know that my internet connection is not the problem! I have tried several other connections at different places and all end up with the same result.
The one time I did get my site to publish a week ago I was using the, "publish to folder" option and then pointing it to my "web" folder on idisk. I was amazed when it published but that was a week ago and now I have updated my site and can't get it to upload again no matter what I try. I've trashed prefs., reinstalled the program, held down the option key and clicked the "publish all" button, I have tried uploading around 3am several times thinking that the server may have less traffic and that might help. I have deleted all my media from my idisk and started over, which in hind site was a mistake, I tried uploading a simple one page one picture site and nothing will publish! I get error messages everytime!! I have not one time given up and have literally spent days of my time trying to figure this problem out!
Here are a list of just SOME of the error messages I get.
An error occurred while publishing file “Images”.
An error occurred while publishing file “index.html”.
An error occurred while publishing file “shapeimage_1.jpg”.
An error occurred while publishing file “shapeimage_2.png”.
Can’t create the file “navbar5normal.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Can’t create the file “BoilLineProductions/About BLP.html.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
An error occurred while publishing file “index.html”.
Can’t create the file “navbar4normal.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Can’t create the file “navbarseparator3.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
Is there anybody out there who has suffered like this? If so what are you doing about it?
    Sincerely,
    Todd

I was having trouble publishing to my .mac account as well. I am traveling so I have the disadvantage/advantage of trying completely different isp networks while trying to upload. I was receiving most of the same errors, but after trying yet another hotel high speed the site published. I hadn't changed any files as I didn't have time I would just start publishing before bed, and the best I can figure is that the isp was causing some delay as well as a delay in the .mac servers causing the program to drop the connection just long enough to hang the upload. It is my understanding that the .mac servers are not the fastest due to sheer volume of use. (idisks constantly syncing etc.) Some things to look at are how big are your files the larger the file obviously the more chance to loose packets of info in transfer and possible errors. How large is the total site you may have hidden files on your idisk eating up needed space or your email may be taking to much of the hard drive. try to reconfigure your email storage to a lower amount of idisk. Mine was set to 512mb or half of my storage space. Did just publish to .mac with a total file size of 400mb so it can be done. also check to make sure your computer is not disconnecting if it goes to sleep. Just a few suggestions hopefully it will help.

  • Airport Express Total Frustration

    I'm totally frustrated.
I've had my Airport Express for about 3 months. I used it a lot at the beginning, and everything worked fine, but I haven't used it for a while. Now that I'm back trying to use it....
...It can't be found by iTunes and it can't be found by Setup, but I can get to it by using "Other" in the Base Station Chooser and typing in it's IP address.
    Here's some background:
My network is a simple wired Ethernet Setup. My computers and the Airport Express (and Tivos) are connected directly to a Linksys Etherfast router, which is connected to a cable modem. The router is serving DHCP and uses NAT. The Airport Express has wireless disabled -- I'm just trying to use it to stream iTunes to my stereo.
All my devices are on the same subnet: 192.168.1.10X, where X runs from 1 to 5. My PC is 192.168.1.100, and the Airport is 192.168.1.103.
I run Norton Internet Security on the PC, but disabling it doesn't seem to help. I've also plugged in my laptop (not running any firewall software) and it has the same symptoms.
The only real change to the network has been the router. I had an older version of the same router that finally died (power supply, I think), so I replaced it. I don't think I've done anything unusual (or even interesting) in the router config that's different than before.
I've tried messing with just about every setting on the Airport Express....
Any thoughts? This is unbelievably frustrating!
    Thanks!
    Dell   Windows XP Pro

First of all, I'm the biggest Apple supporter of all time. I have been using Apple computers since 1982, and wouldn't own any other. Having said that, the Airport technology is inferior. It has been inferior since day one, and it is inferior to this day. I have owned the original Airport Graphite, Airport Snow, Airport Extreme, and Airport Express. All were problematic. I spent hours on the phone with Apple tech support... and more hours changing settings, trading in wireless phone systems, boosting signals with multiple Airport Express units, etc... ad nauseum. In my experience, no matter what I did, Airport has always been problematic. Intermittent connections... deteriorating speeds... unreliable connections... weak signals. I switched from b to g and back again. I switched channels... on into the night. I finally hooked up the **** Westell Versalink wireless router that comes free with my Verizon account. Setting it up is a minor challenge because the interface is clunky, but after a ten minute call with Verizon tech support, it is up and running. The wireless connection speeds are double what I was getting with Airport... and the connection is rock steady reliable. I'm sure this post will be deleted by the forum Nazis any second now, but if you're lucky enough to read it before then, and you are frustrated with Airport problems... trust me, the problems will not go away (I have invested five years in trying to solve them). Get a plain old standard issue wireless router and welcome to a whole new world. The Airport technology is just plain inferior, and Apple should admit it once and for all.
