Touch 32GB 2nd Gen will not charge or sync

So I bought my iPod used through a 3rd party reseller, been great for almost 2 years now, but finally has its first serious problem. The battery had been drained from use, so this morning I plug it in to my PC laptop, and the low battery icon pops up on the screen for a couple of seconds, then the screen lights up full, and the Apple logo appears, but after about 5 minutes of sitting on that logo, the screen comes off, then the low battery logo comes up again, and then goes back to the Apple logo one more time, this just continues on and on, even after leaving it plugged in for about an hour. Everything had been working great the night before, after I updated a couple of apps on the iPod, but now will not come back on at all. I'm suspecting it could be that the battery finally gave out or maybe something wrong with the charging circuitry. I've tried using 2 other USB cables, to no avail, and using different combinations of cables on a desktop PC and my girlfriends PC laptop, none of which will produce anything, even looking into the Device Manager while the iPod is plugged in, none of the 3 computers seem to be recognizing my iPod as an attached device.

Well this is a wierd turn of events. On a random hunch (and it being late at night I figured I'd try one last thing), I put my Touch on my iPod alarm clock dock, and came back about a half hour later, and lo and behold, it actually held a charge, and is now back to normal. Many thanks for your replies though, I appreciate the effort.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen will not charge, or sync to iTunes

Hello, I have a 2 year old iPod 4th gen 32 gb.  About a week ago a realized that when a charged it the charging screen did not appear.  I made no big deal about it since it still charged, but then I tried to connect it to my cpu to see if anything changed, nothing did (it also cannot connect to iTunes to my cpu but can connect to the app just fine).  So I went on with it but recently it stopped charging all together.  I'd power it down at night and turn it on in the morning and didn't charge at all past 20% So I powered it down and this image came up.Yes, I have seen this image before but when I plugged it in and got the  charging screen after it died.  But now it cannot get past this screen I left it plugged in all day and it doesn't do anything else.  I can reset it after 10 minutes to wake it up but it dies again almost right away now normally i would just toss this away, since how old it is but I'm getting an iPhone soon and I want to be able to transfer everything over, to the iPhone but it keeps dying before i can do anything.  And I would like to fix it so I could sell it for some cash.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd gen does not charge on new 5W USB power adapter

    Hi,
my perfectly functional ipod shuffle 2nd gen with original dock will not charge with the new Continental Europe 5W USB power adapter, even though the specs of the power adapter include the 2nd generation shuffle. Shuffle will blink orange three times, longer than normal blinking, and then do nothing. probably nothing I can do about it, but worth a note. The US model of the new 5W adapter does not include the 2nd gen shuffle, so maybe it is an error on the apple specs page.
Maybe the 2nd gen needs more than 5W to charge?

indeed, it needs the bigger 12 Watt Adapter and the apple site is wrong.

  • Ipod Touch 32Gb 2nd Gen Ranomly Crashes?!? HELP!!!

Sorry for a double post, but it was in the wrong section.
Well I recently bought at 32Gb 2nd Gen Ipod Touch about three weeks ago, and it's amazing. It's pretty much everything I expected it to be. Well... there's only one problem I have with it. I could be listening to music, or watching a movie, or just browsing some pages on safari and then it would just randomly turn off. I mean, I can't be because of some external damage, can it? I haven't dropped it. I updated it to the 2.2 firmware, and I even restored it about three times now, but nothing has changed with it. It just keeps randomly restarting. When I restored it I didn't even add music, I had like three applications, Bubble Wrap Pro, Bubble Wrap, and Field Runners, then I went to browse a page on safari and it just randomly restarted... I thought that restore was pointless if it was just going to do that crap all over again... I use to think it was the album art, because I got that off the album art off google. Do they have to be a certain type of picture like .png or .jpeg? Well I deleted them all off and it still messes up? Just randomly restarts whenever I'm doing something. What's the problem with my Ipod!?? Do I have a corrupt file like a song, application or movie? Also whenever I connect it to my computer it says like "MD Crash Report," what is that? Does that have any affect to what's happening to my Ipod? I have a three-year warranty at Best Buy. I took it back and they were little help. They told me that I probably had a corrupt file. I think I do, but how can I find it? I have over 2,000 songs, so I have no time to look for one song that is corrupt, you know! And no I don't hold the sleep and home button... I know that's how to restart it. So can anyone help? Any ideas on how to fix it and what causes it to restart?
I've done a little research but not a lot of people have the same problem. Well thank you for reading!

If you've reset it 3 times and it still hasn't worked then it seems to me (although I'm probably wrong) like a hardware issue. After all, I doubt a corrupt song file could do that and if you only have 3 applications on it (all of which you have downloaded through the iStore right?) then I highly doubt it to be software related.
I'd take it back to the shop and ask for it to be repaired or better yet a new unit. Don't listen to their rubbish, you've paid for a 3 year guarantee so make sure you get what you want!
I think a corrupt song can mess it up a little though, right. But I just don't know how to find the corrupt song or application. Or maybe it isn't that? I really don't know. Can someone tell me for sure what the problem is? And yes, I get all my applications from the App Store. It's not jailborken either, and there isn't even a jailbreak for the 2nd Gen Ipod Touch...
So how am I suppose to prove to the "Geek Squad" that my Ipod is broken if it randomly chooses to turn off? I can't sit there for fifteen minutes waiting for it to randomly restart so that they can see it, and tell me that it's a hardware issue. Do I just ask them for a new unit? Can I just go to any Apple store, and they can help me? Or is it just not likely that they would help me beacuse I bought it from Best Buy. Anyone know?

  • TS2771 Ipod connects to tv, but will not charge or sync

My ipod was charging fine on my drive home. I connected it to my tv with the video cable and was watching netflix. Then I got a message that the battery was at less than 20%, even though the ipod had been connected to the wall charger the entire time I was watching.
I've tried every charger, every cable, every dock, and every computer I own now, and it will not charge with any of them. Neither my desktop or laptop will recognize that it is connected. The ipod never shows that it is connected or charging. I tried pushing the power & home buttons to reset it and still have the same problem. The reset made no difference. And I'm low on power so there's not much else I can do before it completely runs out of charge.
Any idea why it would give out on me so suddenly, or what I can do to fix it?
