Trackpad and USB issues

I am experiencing two issues with USB on my MBP.
1. Just since yesterday, my trackpad seems to not always be responding right. Sometimes my cursor will not move in complete response to my single finger motion. It sticks, moves in one direction or even causes a scroll. It is as though the trackpad thinks another finger is resting on it. The Apple site just recommends wiping the trackpad with a clean cloth, but that doesn't help. Has anybody else experienced this? Any suggestions? Note this happens even if no USB devices are connected and doesn't happen all the time.
2. In a completely unrelated issue, it seems that oftentimes when I plugin my Logitech USB headset that the MBP seems to freeze (not even cursor motion) for sometimes several minutes. Then it starts up again where it left off. Any ideas about this one?
Thanks,
doug

Well, Apple did fix my trackpad. They think it had to do with capacitors underneath. And they replaced my keyboard at the same time, since the S and L keys were worn and they said that was under guarantee as well.
It was not an altogether pleasant experience though. Even though I was promised same day drop-it-off-pick-it-up service a really nasty "genius bar" person said it was impossible to do the same day and that the other person shouldn't have promised that and it was getting really ugly. I had to go into native-New-Yorker mode (which I hate doing) and said I wasn't leaving until they kept their promise.
Eventually they called a manager who made sure they would keep to their word and they ended up doing a very good job, even replacing my "marware" protective pad.
So all's well that ends well, and I got good service in the end. But I always strongly dislike having to "fight for service". It should just be something that is a matter of course with Apple.
I hope they get rid of that one particular genius bar person though. He is bad news.

If you have another Mac, boot the non-working one into Target Disk Mode (holding down "T" at startup). Hook up the two Macs via a Firewire cable. The non-working one will mount on the other Mac as an external Firewire HD.
Next, download the 10.5.6 Combo update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1056comboupdate .html
Run it. When it asks you for a destination, choose the other Mac that was mounted via Firewire. When it's done, unmount the computer and restart it. The keyboard and mouse should work now.

  • X6 bluetooth and USB issue

My old 5310 had no problems connecting through bluetooth or cable to my pc. Now I updated to a X6 and nothing but issues connecting.
The bluetooth works sometimes, when it feels like it, when it doesn't work and I disable bluetooth on the phone, I can't enable it again, it just says something along the lines it can't execute bluetooth operation. First time I experienced it, I gave up and a little later I tried again, bluetooth enabled as normal and immediately connected and worked as normal.
Then I try to connect through USB cable, on which it only tries to find drivers (which it used to have when I first got the phone) and eventually I get a message the phone is still transferring files (which it isn't) and I need to enable PC Suite mode while that's what it's on.
I think there's something very wrong with the software..

    Hope your issue is solved.
    My issue is this:
    MY HARDWARE / SOFTWARE:
    - Nokia 6350 phone
    - IOGEAR GBU321 usb bluetooth
    - Windows XP on Dell Latitude D610
    - PC Suite 7.1.51.0
    PROBLEM:
PC Suite works fine with my phone if I'm in range. If I walk far away and bluetooth connection is lost, when I return to range, the synch btwn PC and Phone MAY or MAY NOT resume. Most of the time it does, but sometimes it does not.  I've tried to close/re-start PC-Suite to no avail. I've tried to re-detect my phone via PC Suite...nothing.
The workaround fix I've found  to resume the PC--Phone connection is this:
    - On the bottom left of task bar, right click on the bluetooth icon and "Explore My Bluetooth Places"
    - Delete "Nokia 6350 OBEX File Transfer"
    - right click on the bluetooth icon and select "Quick Connect"-->"File Transfer"-->"Find Devices"-->"Show All Devices"-->select the Noka 6350 (for some reason it's visible here)-->and click "Finish".
Then suddenly, my PC-Suite Icon show connected again and I'm back in business.
WHAT is causing this and HOW to fix this permanently ? Something is timing out in PC-Suite.
    Thanks,
    Neel

  • My cursur, trackpad, and USB mouse are going crazy

This all happen just today. I don't really have control over the cursur and I have no idea why. The trackpad doesn't really work and the mouse is just jumping around.
Any ideas? or anything I could reset?
    This litterally happened over night.....
    p.s.
this took about 20 mins to type...

I have this same problem with my MacBook Pro (only since updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.4 from Leopard). I do not use a mouse. Periodically, I will find that I cannot move my cursor or use my trackpad. I usually use 1 finger to move the cursor and when this happens, it takes 2 fingers and it is jumpy (not moving exactly where I want it). Sometimes I cannot select anything or enter won't work.
I originally thought I must have accidentally hit a wrong button when typing. It usually goes away on its own after several minutes and I don't know why or how.
It's as if some setting got changed, but when I went to the trackpad / cursor settings, nothing appears different and I don't see anything to change to put it back the way it was.
Either it is a legitimate glitch with the S/W that needs fixing or some kind of setting issue that has an easier fix than going through safe mode and doing whatever the other poster mentioned.
I am somewhat familiar with safe mode on a Windows machine, but not on my Mac. I am fairly new to the Mac (have had it about 10 months, but still a lot I don't know).
I want an easy fix. It does not appear virus-related (or user-error) as nothing else seems affected and it goes away as suddenly as it came. It is always when I am using the internet, but that is 95% of what I use the Mac for. Again, I never had this problem with Leopard, and I only upgrade to Snow Leopard within the past 2 months or so after months (about 8) of using Leopard with no problem.

  • External hdd and usb issue

Hey there... May sound like a silly question but I am having a problem with an external hdd.
I recently bought a brand-spanking new macbook pro w. retina and can't find my external hdd when I plug it in.
Theoretically, there should be no problem between the old hdd's usb 2 and the new macbook's usb 3, and the new computer is only a week old, so what I was wondering was whether anyone knew if there might be any interface issue between the old hdd (can't remember exactly what the os was - it was either leopard or snow leopard...10.6.something as i recall) and the new one (10.8.3)?
Or should I just go ahead and weep over the old lost hdd?
    Appreciate any help

  • Trackpad and Mouse Issue

Periodically my trackpad will not work. It starts off as being a bit sluggish (i.e. not responsive to swipes) and it gets progressively worse until it ceases to function. I then plug in a mouse which seems to work for a bit. However, the same problem that occurred w. the trackpad starts to happen w. the mouse. In addition sometimes my cursor seems to have a mind of its own and starts to make its way across the screen in small little back & forth motions until it reaches the right hand side and then makes its way back across (repeat).
I have contacted Apple Support a few times w. this issue and their standard response is to restart and reset the OS and RAM. The problem continues to persist and I am at the point where what I am left with a machine that is pretty much unusable.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried reinstalling the OS? That would be my first port of call... unless you're sure it's a hardware issue.

  • MS 6178 ver 1.1 bios and USB issue (TINY PC)

Can someboady help me please, I am rebuilding a PC for the neighbours ,  it is a TINY Pc ( Tiny have gone bust ) I have filled the motherboard with 512 MB and a nice 60GB IBM diskinstalled  XP Pro sp2 all working. I have a problem with the usb on board not supporting printing.
I cant flash the bios as the original bios is an AMI and the download on the MSI Web site 6178v21.zip ( bios ver 2.1) is an award , when trying to flash the pc just seems to HANG.
I have issues on USB , and am hoping that the bios( current v 1.3 ) upgrade to 2.1 will at least help somewhere.
I just wonder whether because its a Tiny pc and must be an oem board , whether there is something differengt that is stopping it working?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Iam using XP pro Sp2 , i guess its an old board and there will be some incompatibilities , i cant get the existing modem working. Oh well will have to keep on tyring thanks for your help

  • IPhone 4s battery, discharge and USB issues

No iOS upgrade or other change: All of a sudden my 2,5-year-old iPhone 4s starts draining the battery very quickly and will neither charge nor connect to the computer over USB. At one point it pulse-vibrated without much reason. I’ve tried several cables and cleaned the 30-pin contact without effect. Doesn’t appear to be a battery-only problem. What is it? Worth considering a repair? Any advice much appreciated before I toss the unit.

No it doesn't sound like a battery problem does it. Apple doesn't repair 4S phones other than batteries which cost $79 US installed. If it's another problem they'll likely offer you and out of warranty replacement for $199 US. You'll have to ask them for the details on what they'll actually do.

  • HT1151 FireWire and USB issue - writing to external drives stalls

I've started having a problem with external attached drives both USB and Firewire.
Any operation that attempts to write large ammounts of data over those prots simply stalls at some point in time, for instance TimeMachine or 4GB iso
I've followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1151 but have not been able to get to working solution.
All drives tested are working correctly on another MBP machine, I can copy few GB of information easily and speedy
I've attempted to use clear user account, getting same failure
Drive is allways detected when plugged in  under all accounts I have tried.
Same problems I have expirienced on Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion, I'm using mid 2010 15" MBP
Question is what log files should one examine in attempt to troublshoot the problem?

  • Trackpad and Wakeup Issues

I have been having a couple of problems...I figured this was the correct forum due to the fact that befre Tiger came out I didn't have these problems.
    1. My trackpad is always "freezing up." What will happen is the pointer will be almost impossible to move across the display and sometimes a single finger will scroll. These problems happen at the same time and can be fixed after a trackpad reset. Sometimes it happens a half a dozen times a day and sometimes is flawless.
    2. This one only happens every now and then but when waking up from sleep my login screen will appear for a second, then go to the blue screen that usually displays at initial startup and back to the login screen, I will proceed to login and will flash my desktop for a second and bring me back to login. After this second login it always works fine.
    Anyone having these same problems?

    Hi Jim,
I was just on here searching for a discussion about your trackpad problem. I've got the exact same thing going on (#1) since upgrading to Tiger. I just called Apple care and they had me reset the Pram (if you don't know what that is search and you'll find it explained on the forums..I'd explain it but I really don't know what I'm talking about) and gave me a case number to refer to if I have problems again. So far so good but its only been a few minutes.
As far as #2 goes...ya, that has happened to me too. It's not a new thing with Tiger, though, and it doesn't happen often.

  • Firewire and USB issue on PBG4 15" 1.67ghz - Help!!

On the firewire 400 port of my Powerbook G4 15" I run an M-audio Firewire 410 external audio interface. This has worked perfectly ever since I got my powerbook in December 2005.
On switching on my powerbook only days ago, I found that although my Powerbook recognises my Firewire 410 as being attached and powers it, it will not play any sound whatsoever.
I subsequently tried my Firewire 410 audio interface with my PC running XP, which again finds it but plays the audio with high digital distortion.
I believed this to be a problem with my audio interface and not my powerbook - but on one of the USB 2.0 ports, I have attached a 250GB Freecom Classic External HDD. Again, since i got my powerbook this has worked fine, but now my powerbook will only recognise it as a 'Cypress AT2LP RC42' device that cannot be installed.
The Hard drive also will not work on my PC and I have found from other forums that 'Cypress AT2LP RC42' means that your hard drive enclosure is not getting enough power.
Both of these devices stopped working within the same week, and are now useless. The only common thing between them is they were both connected to my powerbook G4 when they stopped working.
I reset my power management system by taking out the battery and adapter and holding the power button, i've verified my permissions and powerbook HD, and still nothing. I have no other choice but to imagine that my powerbook has damaged these devices, which are both powered through their respective ports.
I recently upgraded to 10.4.6 through the system update utility, but quite a few weeks ago now.
Can anyone shed light on this, or give me any indication how to solve this?

just as a side note... where did you find that PSU, i cant find it on any of my manufacturer reference sheets to see who actually makes it. I did find a number of references to it that state it is a really poor quality PSU. Which, I am going to agree w...

I was using W7 with no updates. I have since installed SP1, many of the tiny updates. It still crashes.
I have read there are issues with my chipset and 900 series cards.. but their issue is different to mine.
And it is weird that the 2nd computer does...
