Macbook name (number) keeps changing with updates

Hello,
I would like to understand why my macbook pro changes the number, displayed in parenthesis, on my iCloud. Right now I'm on Macbook Pro (7)
Am I doing something wrong? This happens every time I install a mayor update, such as Yosemite. I was in the "Beta program" so maybe that also affected.
Looking for my Computer on my iPad it appears as "Macbook (7)"... also on icloud on the web.
Would appreciate any help to understand this and to know if it affects functionality, right now I can't sync Pages via icloud.

I've just started experiencing the same problem with my MB Pro after my upgrade to Yosemite. I don't believe it is iCloud related. For some reason the OS is thinking it's seeing two computers on the LAN with the same name.
In previous OS X versions I've seen this self-imposed auto-renaming because there WERE two computers using the same computer name set up in System Preferences -> Sharing on a LAN.
I have an iMac and MBPr that are on my LAN, and connected via the newest AirPort Extreme to the internet. I can assure you there is no other computer on the LAN with the same name. Yet Yosemite just auto-renames the MBPr. In fact I've currently got MBP (3), MBP (4), MBP (5), and MBP (6) listed in the Finder Sidebar. Worse yet, there is no way to remove those previous names from the Finder Sidebar. How long will that list of MBP names get?????
If I go to System Preferences -> Sharing and change the computer name back to MBP, it stays for about 15 seconds before being reset to MBP (6).
There are several other people on the MacInTouch web site reporting the same problem without any resolution. Apparently there are a limited number of people experiencing the problem. Perhaps related to their LAN configuration or some other factor.
I would like to know how to fix the problem. I believe it is a Yosemite bug, and will try to report it to Apple as such.

Color Balance Changed with Update

I have some HD Test pattens that I use to calibrate my video projector with via my AppleTV and my Win7 computer. Both are connected to the projector via HDMI though a switcher unit. The Projector sences a different input when the swithcer is changed allowing me to set indivigual balance levels for the ATV or Computer.
Unit the update the settings were very close between each unit. The Win7 machine has perfect color balance through Red Green and Blue filters. The ATV was never perfect but very close.
Since the update, and here nothing has changed except the update, the ATV colors are well off running the same test signals. The RGB levels are out. I have tried each of the 3 signal feeds from the ATV in the settings menu, but nothing.
The colors now seem to be too vibrant and look false. I can componsate for this in the projector, but why did it change?
Has anyone else noticed this? Again all that changed was the update!!

The closest I could getting it back to the same colors before the upgrade is changing it to the RGB Hi setting, and limiting the HDMI Color in my projector to Limited, then adjusting the Brightness very slightly. Everything now is much closer to the correct color balance through Blue test glasses. Still not as perfect as it was, or running off my Win7 machine.
Nothing has changed in my setup apart from the ATV Update. Do they not check this stuff!!

Playlist shuffle view changed with update

Hi all,
I recently upgraded to version 8.0.2.20 and installed Genius. Since then, I have noticed that my shuffled playlists are displaying differently. Previously when I shuffled my tracks the songs would appear in shuffled order. Now iTunes just skips around my playlist view to the current song. Is there a way to change my view back? I have tried sorting by Last Played and the View menu doesn't seem to have the option I'm looking for.

You probably have your playlist sorted on one of the named columns - the little black triangle tells you which column it is sorting on.
In order for the shuffle to display normally, you need to click in the header row in the column just to the left on name. The little black triangle should be there.

Yes, it's frustrating.
I don't have my iPod with me but, as I recall, the change is done in Settings/Store. That change will apply to NEW purchases. However, be aware that all purchases are permanently associated with the Apple ID that was originally used. Generally, it's only a problem when you need to update an app. IF you do your updating from iTunes and your logged in to the "wrong" ID, you'll need to log out and back in again. It's easier from the iPod as you do not need to log out/in but you do need to know the password.
Unfortunately, you can not merge IDs nor can you transfer purchases from one ID to another. Go here to find out exactly what you have. I have the same problem so I deliberately made both passwords identical to make things slightly easier for me.

These timezone definition changes are fairly common, when viewed world-wide.
For notifying Apple, contact the folks at the Apple Support Center or (if you have access) log a bug report. (The folks at Apple might or might not notice any postings made here.)
For the immediate case, updating the timezones yourself is straightforward; the sequence is basically the same on Linux, OS X, Unix and even OpenVMS. Ugly, but it works. (The US folks got to see this mess first-hand a few years ago, but there are other locations that see these sorts of timezone definition changes far more often.)
For those following along that aren't familiar with this sequence, this old posting should get you close when rebuilding your definitions, though the timezone database has moved to IANA.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
There may be a couple of different things I would suggest here. The first thing I would do would be to check and make sure the orientation lock is off.
iOS: Screen does not rotate
If the lock is off and the issue continues, I would recommend restarting your device. If the issue continues after the restart, reset the device.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

Apple software updates are now delivered through the App Store. It's not clear yet whether they will also available from the Apple Support website.

Help with updates - The software change returned error code 0x87D00215(-2016411115).

I have rolled out bunch of updates across few hundred workstation systems.
Few of the desktops have failed to install SOME of the updates and just can't get my head around as to why?
Looking at one of the workstations, I can see 5 updates are pending download at 0%.
Some of these fail after a while and with in Software Centre, I can see 'Help with updates - The software change returned error code 0x87D00215(-2016411115).'. Not exactly sure what this means, but I have tried clearing the cache and
rebooting the workstations few times.
(I have also tried to use Windows Update and install one of these manually, which worked.)

Investigating this further, I have found the following in CAS.log:

Can any one tell me whether the t-codes change with version updates or not.If they change how to find out those t-codes.
For example,I am having some ABCD t-code in 4.7 and if it changes to DCBA in 6.0,How we can find all these changes t-codes.Any t-code to find all changed t-codes

Hi Ravee,
After upgradation some tcodes are change with the old name and put N at the end of existing tcode. For example old t-code is me51 and new tcode is me51n.
Some more t-code are also intruduce.

As I stated, you cannot change the Apple ID that an app asks for, it is forever tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase the app. You need to use the password for the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.
Apps are not transferrable.

Can I use a VB SCript to enable Num Lock at logon in Win 8.1 with Update 1?

Hope this is the correct place for this - someone directed me to the TechNet Forums from the Windows 8.1 general forum, and then from the 'Windows Forms General' forum to one on Scripting and now to this one on Group Policy this one. Hope I have now
got to the correct technical forum to answer the question below, which is driving me nuts.
In the good old days of Windows XP, I was able to ensure Num Lock was on at boot up by the use of a small VB Script file, which was this:
set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "{NUMLOCK}"
It is really annoying with Win 8.1 that on Boot Up, AND
every time I want to switch user, Num Lock goes off (even if it was on before switching user). I want Num Lock to be on at Boot Up AND stay on when switching user.
I have seen the suggested remedies in other forums about changing the appropriate value in the Registry (which does not work until after logon) and changing the BIOS setting (which does not work because Windows overrules the BIOS setting). The question
is whether the VBScript solution will work with Win 8.1 with Update 1?
If it will, in which folder do I put the Script file in order for it to work for all Users?
And do I have to make the any changes to Group Policy to make it work, and if so what changes, as seems to be the case if the OS was Win 7 (mine is Win 8.1 Update 1, and NOT Win 8 Pro).
Thanks in advance for any help on this one. Please note, I am NOT an expert user, so please try and explain any shorthand you use that you take for granted but which I won't understand!!

... as my orignal message suggested, I have hardly a clue what you are saying and the link doesn't help me understand any better either (as it doesn't seem to help with how to do something with an existing Registry key).
To be speciific:
1. what script do I write?
2. where do I save it so it works for all users at logon AND on switching users?
3. how do I "run it as a logon script via group policy"????
Perghaps I need to add that this is a single, standalone, home PC, with 2 users, running Win 8.1 Core/Basic. Also, I cannot find the Group Policy Editor on the PC; when I type either 'gpedit' or 'gpedit.msc' into Run, I get a message saying that the
file canot be found on the PC. This when logged on as user with administrator powers. It is not found either from a Command prompt. And there does not seem to be a GP Snap-in available via the MM Console.
Please clarify for me what looks to be a helpful response - for I am just a 'bear of little brain' (as per Winnie the Pooh).
