Traffic limiting

Hope someone can point me in the right direction on this!
I have a 6.5MB Internet feed into a 3825 router. I have 3 FastEthernet outputs. I wish to limit the throughput on one output to 512k at all times. I also wish to limit another to 4M, but only between say 8am to 5pm daily. Any ideas?

It's easy to do. You should use either traffic-policing or traffic-shaping.
For example use this link to configure generic traffic-shaping:

  • CUCME XML Api. response size and traffic limitation

    Hi,
I am using the AXL interface of the CallManager Express (V8) to get all available devices and ephone-dn.
I am using ISgetDevice with filter "all".
There is a maximum response size of 64k (in ixi transport http -  response size).
In case the answer for all devices does not fit in the response buffer, I get a CME_XML_BUFFER_ERR Not enough buffer for response, please config a larger one.
First question: Is there any solution for the response size limit?
I now tried to work around this problem and first go and call ISgetDevice  with "allTag". That makes the response smaller an I get a list of available DeviceIDs.
Now I iterate through the list of DeviceIDs and call ISgetDevice for each of them.
After calling this function about 60 times (for the first 60 DevicesIDs) the next SOAP request takes about 20 seconds to complete.
    This is not acceptable.
Second question: Is there a limitation for the amount of web service requests per second? Is there any solution?
    Best regards
    Stephan

  • Platinum QoS profile limits data traffic

    Hello,
I have WLC which controls a WLAN that hosts data traffic and VoIP traffic.
I have enabled Platinum QoS profile and the throughput of the WLAN decreases to approximately 10 Mbps (With bronze QoS profile throughput was like 22~25 Mbps).
I would like to know how does the QoS profile limit the throughput of the WLAN? WLC gives a warning that data traffic will be affected but that doesn't tell much about the actual mechanism of traffic limiting.
I used iperf software sending UDP data @ 500 Mbps to measure the throughput.

  • Transition from Trial to Purchased Java + DB PaaS cloud - overage?

    Oracle,
A minimum configuration for Java EE hosting on Oracle Cloud Java + Database comes out to around 12 * (250 + 175) * 1.13 = $5763 per year - which is a price that requires some diligence for small businesses but worth it in order to use a full featured EE server like WebLogic 12 that includes EclipseLink in my opinion.
What is the policy on overage fees over the 30GB(DB) and 50GB(Java) monthly traffic limits.
    - When the limit is reached at say the 3rd week - how is overage traffic handled - can we throttle the 50Gb java load over the month in that case to handle peak loads
    - Is there any extra fees if we exceed the 30+50 GB limits within the month - I don't want to forced to upgrade to the 250GB limit @ $9153 per year.
    The pricing page
    https://cloud.oracle.com/mycloud/f?p=service:java_pricing:289454252444001
    states
"This is the maximum allowed bytes of data in and out of your service within a billing month. Database import and export are provided for free and do not deduct from this allocation."
but does not discuss on what is done with requests for data above the 50GB limit.
    - Is there any plan to incorporate a subset of free usage like GAE/Appspot and AWS/beanstalk do?
    Outages:
    - there was a 9 hour scheduled outage the night of the 31st - can we expect this regularly and are apps seamless handed over to an alternate production server during the duration - In that case how are in-transaction session handled. As I understand it we do not have access to a 2nd level Coherence cache - which could handle this.
    Trial to Paid
Can I get a url prefix in the name of my company when I decide to move to a paid cloud from the "trialAAAA" one we get assigned now.
Full Java EE 6 (or at least mirrored WLS 12.1.1.0 support)
What is the timeline for implemented the feature difference between local standalone 12c instances and the cloud ones.
Specifically EJB 3.1(new deployment time timer beans, WebProfile), full ADF, Coherence, EclipseLink 2.5 (with Multitenancy and JPA-RS), JPA 2.0 container managed persistence units without static weaving.

    Hi.
Thanks for your question. Right now I do not belive it is possible to connect the BI Publisher/OBIEE environment embedded within Fusion Applications to any alternative datasources as you described.
I appreciate this is all in the Oracle Cloud, so it's an interesting use-case and I will endeavor to investigate any options we might support in the future. In addition, I recommend you propose the same question to the Cloud Central/Operations folks as they are responsible for the configurations and they might be able to offer more details on what they support now and going forwards.
The SaaS cloud does support both linking to other urls and embedding external pages (your reports) as iFrames, so that might be an alternative? Also I don't know if you've looked at the coming Oracle BI Cloud, which provides a database and OBIEE server environment together, again from which you might be able to embedd the result in your SaaS environment.
Hope this helps, and we're planning a BI Publisher series on our blog soon so will be sure to cover some of the things mentioned here. Keep a look out for more.
    Thanks

  • Forms 9i sizing metrics/ network bandwith

I have a potential customer who are evaluating Forms 9i for their intranet. Their biggest concern is the size of the Forms deployed to the client compared to JSP pages and HTML/Javascript, the size of any java classes that would need to download to the client, on-going communication between the client and app server, and any Jinitiator programs that would need to be installed as all program applications are managed by local IT teams and not the end user.
I need some ballpark facts and figures on the size of Forms and their relative % reduction in footprint in comparison with previous releases of Forms and JSPs.
Also, I need to confirm what exactly other than a browser (the customer's corp standard is IE 5.0.1) has to preinstalled on an end user's PC.

    Hi Grant,
Thank you for the info thus far.
I've read through the capacity planning guide. It gives me a good indication of resource usage on the middle tier. However, what about the client?
I understand from what you have stated that the JAR files are cached once regardless of the JVM used. Is this true for JVM supplied with Internet Explorer 5.01? Will this 'older' version of the browser even have a JVM modern enough to cope with the demands of forms 9i? Or will I need JInitiator?
How big is Jinitiator if I do need to download it? 5mb, 10mb, 50mb?
What about the one off JAR file that will get cached? I heard a ball park of 8mb.
When I launch a medium form as a servlet, the capacity planning guide says approx 6.2mb per user. What is this 6.2mb? Is it an approximate .FMX file size, memory, or a combination of the two? Where is this 6.2mb allocated? Is this memory/swap space allocated on the servlet engine on the application server machine or is this 6.2mb downloaded/allocated on the client PC?
What for a typical form is downloaded to the client when I launch a Forms based application as a servlet? Is the entire Forms file downloaded after which there is only minimal traffic going back and forth between the client and middle tier. Or does the servlet act like a screen scraper (i.e., Citrix) and the already cached classes are used to render everything and the extend of the network traffic limited to rendering differences in screen appearance?
I understand that a Forms application is typically aimed for more complex interactive applications. However, if you have skills in both Web PLSQL (to render HTML and Javascript), Java and Forms, it would make sense to leverage those skills that would make you more productive. It is very quick to build a large number of screens in Forms - it would take longer coding from scratch with HTML/Javascript. The application we need to build is large in terms of the number of screens, but not too complex in terms of a demand for a high level of client side validation.
If the trade off in performance is small it would be prudent to develop in Forms if you could get the application built and live in a quarter of the man days. If the trade off is going to be significant then it would be more prudent to go down the HTML/Javascript or JSP route.
    I hope this makes sense.
    Cheers,
    John

  • [SOLVED] Pacman -Syu, Download Only

    Hello,
I've searched the man page but found nothing about this.
My ISP has traffic limits and has HappyHours at night, so I'd like to download the possible upgrades with a cronjob but pacman doesn't seem to have a flag for that, like --download-only or something similar.
    Is there any alternative?
Should I add a request for that features?
    Thanks

  • Management VLAN Design and Implementation

Greetings, friends.  I'm having trouble getting a clear picture of how a management VLAN ought to look.  I just installed a Catalyst 6509-E as my core switch, and as soon as they arrive I'm going to be replacing all of our other (HP) switches with Catalyst 3560X switches.  I understand the reasoning behind segregating traffic, not using VLAN1, etc., but I've never actually implemented a management VLAN--I've always just accessed the switches via the IPs assigned to them where all the client traffic flows (not VLAN1, by the way).
Is "management VLAN" simply what we as humans call a VLAN we dedicate to management activities, or is there something official in these switches to designate a "management VLAN?"
Is it best practice to include SNMP, netflow, syslog, and NTP as "management" traffic?
There's a lot of documentation talking -about- management and management VLANs, but unless I'm blind or not looking hard enough I can't seem to find any implementation whitepapers or best practices whitepapers that demonstrate setting one up on a campus LAN.  Are you able to point me in the right direction to find such documentation?  Is it perhaps buried in a manual somewhere that isn't explicitly labeled "Management VLAN Design and Implementation" or somesuch?
What is the best practice for accessing the management VLAN?  Inter-VLAN routing + ACLs?  Multi-homed PCs or servers?  Additional PCs to be used as access stations?
Thank you for your wisdom, experience, and advice!
    Kevin

    1. Yes, you may want to keep this traffic separate of the other traffic limiting device management access to just this vlan, as this prevents eavesdropping.
    2. Indeed all other housekeeping goes via this VLAN altough you could limit it to the interactive or session traffic.
    3. On a campus you could think of one big VLAN spanning the campus, one a multi-site environment or where you use L3 to go to you datacenters you probably need multiple management lan's. I've seen implementations where the management traffic was kept separate and even didn't use the routing protocol in use. The whole management lan was statically routed and would work even if OSPF or BGP was down.
    4. I feel a situation where the people providing support are connected on the lan giving access to the devices is probably best. A dual homed pc is a good solution I think, other customer feel the management lan should be treated as a DMZ accessible via a firewall,  but the hardcore customer insist on a second pc connected to the management lan.
Points to consider are as always,
Find the single point of failure. Any device, L2 L3 firewall that could cut off management from accessing a part of the network.
Find the right balance between security, costs, easy of access for the business your in.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • BPC 7.0 Reports not opening

We have experienced reports not opening.  The problem appears to be when the combination of folder name and file name length is long.  Has anyone else experienced this and know what the max character length limitation is?

Chicago, eh? Is this a union shop?
Do the server diagnostics look the same before and after 9 am? What time in the evening does it stop working?
If not the server, maybe there's a network traffic limitation that's blocking access.
If you have Excel and the client installed on the server itself, try logging in from the server and see if that works. (If not, try just the BPC web browser functionality.) If you can log in from the server, but not from other client machines, there's something going on with your network.

  • Alternative to iChat

For everyone having iChat problems try using this program. www.sightspeed.com. I hate to say it but this program is much better than iChat AV if you upgraded to 10.4.7. After reading about all the problems with 10.4.7 I think I will wait for an upgrade. I use sightspeed all the time with people all over the world. Its both Mac and PC compatible and very easy to set up. Just open port 9000 and thats it. I hate to use something other than iChat but it seems that we all have no choice since Apple has not come out with a patch yet. Hope this helps.
    Powerbook G4 1.67 1G RAM Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Bonjour, Computer to Computer Nextworks--still doesn't work very well. One on One its "ok" but the router can't really handle multiple conference calls going on around the room between students and between me and a single students.
Currently, I use walkie talkies with PPT headsets but the batteries are rechargable batteries are expensive. The upside is the reliability and speed of switching channels. I am surprised there is not some kind of "in office" communications software for large firms to communicate via computer terminals. If I was to locate something like that the odds of there being a Mac version are even slimmer still---but I keep my hopes alive there may be something.
Again though, iChat just doesn't perform with consistency--way too many hangs especially considering how long its been on the market. Nonetheless, I am still looking for a reliable one-one audio chat program. I could limit my students to only chatting with me and that could solve the router traffic limits issue.
At this point I would even consider running cables to an "operators switchbox" but the only one I could find was for airplanes and that was something like 10K dollars.

  • Alternative to iChat AV 3

I am a school teacher and want to be able to chat with students and stations around the lab. I need to be able to quickly jump from student to student to help them but iChat is too slow in establishing connections.
I have tried various types of iMacs in my room and run everything through a express base station- but still not fast enough. Also the program itself is not super stable: too often it freezes/hangs.
I am looking for software that will enable me to do this and thinking of two types:
    1) LAN only: does not require internet
    2) internet based.
Are there any options for 1)? I have been looking at 2) but not sure which is the best one. Skype?

  • Traffic shaping/limiting 3560

How can i shape/limit the interface of an cisco 3560 not to allow more than
8mbit of outgoing and ingoing traffic?
    Will something like this work:
    class-map match-all any
    match ip dscp default
    policy-map 8mbps
    class any
    police 8388500 8000 exceed-action drop
    interface FastEthernet0/13
    switchport access vlan 940
    switchport mode access
    service-policy input 8mbps
    srr-queue bandwidth shape 12 12 12 12
    Jo Christian Buvarp

    Hi,
your input config is ok and will limit traffic to 8 Mbps. on the output side, traffic is sorted into 4 queues. With shaped output, which you configured, each of the queues will be limited to 1/12 = approx. 8 Mbps. This will give you a total of up to 24 Mbps on output depending on how you sort traffic into the 4 queues.
If you can make sure all traffic is marked as "default", this should give you the desired result. You can also assign traffic to queues following
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5528/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00801e85dd.html#1163863
    with the command
    mls qos srr-queue output dscp-map queue queue-id threshold threshold-id dscp1...dscp8
Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

  • Limiting traffic?

    Hi everyone,
I was seeing if anyone knew if my Airport Express, the settings on the three macs connected, or any third party software could actually limit the amount of traffic that each user can use. Basically, just to make sure not one person hogs all the traffic and bandwith on the network.
    Thanks so much!
    Josh

Hello jrw023. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I was seeing if anyone knew if my Airport Express, the settings on the three macs connected, or any third party software could actually limit the amount of traffic that each user can use.
No, there isn't a setting on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) that allows limits on a particular user's bandwidth.

  • Can IPS deploy traffic rate limiting policy to switch or router?

    Hello,
I have a quick question: can IPS deploy traffic rate limiting policy to Cisco switch or router?
As we know, IPS sensor can throttle suspicious traffic instead of blocking them, not sure if IPS can send the throttle policy to cisco swtich or router.
    Thanks,
    -Alejin

Please find the following on what the IPS can do in terms of rate limiting (it also includes which signature and which routers, what to configure and what not to configure, etc):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/7.0/configuration/guide/idm/idm_blocking.html#wp2005501
The above is on IPS version 7.x.
    Hope that helps.

  • Deploying vlan and limiting traffic from not reaching network core

    Folks:
I am reading CCNP Switch 642-813 official Certification Guide (isbn=978-1-58720-243-8) and I’m a little confused as to the following on page.71 –
“You should not allow VLANs to extend beyond the Layer 2 domain of the distribution switch. In other words, the VLAN should not reach across the network’s core and into another switch block. The idea again is to keep broadcasts and unnecessary traffic movement out of the core block”.
Can anyone offer a different way of stating this or offer a picture or a diagram? I am having a hard time visualizing what this is trying to say – is this refereeing to two different switch blocks/stacks on either side of a switch core if I were to the draw the topology flat?
    Thanks
    JJ

    JJ
This is referring to the 3 tier design where you have a separate access layer/distribution layer and core layer.
So imagine a campus where you have multiple buildings and a main site. All the other buildings connect to the main site and to get from one building to another they go via the main site.
The main site would have a pair of core switches and a pair of distribution switches + access layer switches. The other buildings would have a distribution pair of switches and access layer switches. Each buildings distribution switches would connect back to the core switches usually with L3 links. In the past you used L2 links but with L3 switching you now generally route, or more precisely, L3 switch through the core.
What that extract from your book is saying is that each building has it's own vlans and they are routed on the distribution switches in each building. Only traffic destined for a vlan or more specifically a subnet that is not within the building should be sent to the core switches which then route them to the correct place.
What you shouldn't do is have a vlan in a building that also extends to the core and possibly to other buildings. This is because a vlan is a broadcast domain so a broadcast in a vlan would be sent to all hosts in that vlan. So if you allow a vlan to extend through the core you are allowing broadcasts from one building to go through the core to other buildings.
The core switches should be left to L3 switch traffic between buildings and pretty much nothing else.
There is usually no need to extend vlans to or across the core  ie. each set of vlans is terminated on the distribution switches so broadcasts are contained within each building or again more specifically within each vlan within the building.
One other thing to note is that if you have a single building with maybe just a WAN connection the 3 tier design is not necessarily the best way to go and a common solution is a collapsed core where the core and dsitribution switches are the same physical switches. It saves on cost and within a single building there is often very little need for a high speed core.
I have used the terms route and L3 switch interchangeabley here but technically all L3 capable switches route in hardware so to be precise it is L3 switching.
Finally the above about a single building setup does not refer to a DC where the rules are somewhat different.
Hope that helps and i haven't confused you more.
Feel free to ask further if needed.
    Jon
