Training Recommendations ConfigMgr 2012

Hi All,
Does anyone have any good recommendations for training in SCCM 2012? - I'm particularly interested in OS Deployment as that is a weak area for me. I'm not looking for official MS courses - more real-life scenarios rather than the basics.
The truesec training seem like they might be what I need - but the ones I want are based in the US which works out very expensive when I account for travel and accomodation. I'm based in Europe (Ireland).
Many thanks!

Why don't you start by creating your own lab (you will learn a lot on your own).
This guide will get you started

  • ConfigMgr 2012 R2 client on Windows 7 SP1 x86 causes "Program Compatibility Assistant" to appear

After I upgraded to R2 I am seeing the message below on newly installed Windows 7 SP1 x86 machines when I go to Control Panel and open the Configuration Manager Properties and then close it. This seems to only happen on 32-bit Win7 not on 64-bit.
I have created a new package for the client from definition and I also tried building new images using my Build and Capture task sequences. In this case I get the same message on the x86 Windows 7 SP1 machine if I log on after the Build & Capture is
done. My Build And Capture sequences uses the RTM-image for Windows 7 SP1 that has been patched using Offline Servicing.
Has anyone else seen this? Everything is working normally on the clients and if I click "This control panel works correctly" the message goes away. However, if I click "Open the control panel using recommended settings" that results in
admin-rights being required to open the Configuration Manager Properties under the Control Panel.

I just pinged the product team and they are not aware of this issue at all so please someone open a support case with CSS where the issue can be worked.

    Hi Tim
How did you go with this? We're still seeing this issue migrating Windows 7 x86 machines from the ConfigMgr 2007 SP2 R3/ConfigMgr 2012 client to the ConfigMgr 2012 R2 client in multiple environments.
    Cheers
    Sam
Ticket opened with Microsoft Support, still no fix but I will keep you all posted.

  • ConfigMgr 2012 R2/WSUS configuration issue

In my test environment, I have two systems setup as SUPs. One (SUP01) uses lists the synchronization source as 'Microsoft Update' and the other (SUP02) lists the first one as it's synchronization source. The second is a replica of the first
SUP and that's reflected in the WSUS options.
In my production environment, I have basically the same setup, just more SUPs, but any SUPs added after the first will not setup as a replication partner to the first. All SUPs added after the first list 'Microsoft Update' as the
synchronization source. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling WSUS and the SUP role more than a few times, with the same result always. I've also tried configuring the WSUS update source in the WSUS options directly to point to the first SUP system.
The ConfigMgr 2012 R2 console never reflects this change and never synchs. I've been struggling with this issue for days. Is there a way to fix this so that the additional SUPs configure correctly as replicas of the first?

Technical is can be done (I guess)... Would I do it... Never!!!
It would be extremely hard to manage, and a million things could go wrong (and most likely would).
I don't see any reasons not to deploy a separate WSUS Server.

Yes, it will work. But never approuve Updates that are managed from SCCM. I will never recommend this because as Ronni said, a million things could go wrong.
Definitely create a second WSUS Server. If you want, you can synchronise the approval between them using a powershell script.

  • Scenario – Multi Tenant ConfigMgr 2012 R2 and Same IP Address range for multiple customer

The service provider plans on managing customer’s workstation/desktop via ConfigMgr 2012 R2 CU3 which is hosted at Service Provider’s network however the Secondary Site (MP/DP Role) is hosted at customer’s physical location and on their network but
not joined to customers domain. The service provide plans to have a one-way trust with each customer initiated from service provider to each customer and have a copy of customer’s DNS by way of ADC hosted at service providers network.
Now the challenge is that we might end up having plenty of customers who will have same IP/subnet range such as 192.168.1.x and wanted to know the impact/issues around deployment. We may have challenges defining boundaries/boundary group for same IP range
or subnet for each customer because you can't have two boundaries with same IP range or Subnet. Also, since we have one way trust, we don't get the option to view customer's AD sites and services...
We are testing a scenario where we’ve defined the DNSSUFFIX on CM client so the client knows which MP to talk and MP presents with the nearest DP this works out quite well where you’ve defined IP boundary but haven’t tested anything with two or more customers
with same IP Range – hence not sure how the same IP/subnet range would work.
Wondering if we DO NOT define any boundary or boundary group so the client assume it's on slow or unreliable network and set the applications
Deployment Option to "Download content from DP and run locally" and still receives the application – I know this works in workgroup scenario but will this be a feasible option when dealing with multiple customers with same IP range ?
Please note that we are not planning on publishing MP or AD Schema on customer network but since we have a one way trust, we can do a discovery of customer’s AD forest.
    Thoughts ?

This is a complex scenario which requires a lot of planning and even testing. Having no boundaries will work, but all DPs are treated as slow/remote then and it's not possible to define which one will be used then.

  • ConfigMgr 2012 R2 and SQL Collation

I am planning to install a new ConfigMgr 2012 R2 server and use SQL Server 2012 SP2.
Does ConfigMgr 2012 R2 already support other SQL Collations than "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS"?
In other System Center 2012 R2 products "SQL_* collations are being deprecated for their Windows equivalents" according to
    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn281933.aspx

Generally speaking, no. There are two exceptions for use in China, see also:

Thank you Garth, I can access the reports from other hosts as well.
Yes ,Newly created admins can see all the reports
I've gone through the event logs and nothing related to SSRS.
I dont think it's a FQDN issue, bcoz ican see in the logs the that the admin console successfully connected to reporting service. Only while retreiving the reports it throws error

  • WebDAV error when doing a client push ConfigMgr 2012 R2

Hi everyone, I am getting an error message when doing a client push, only on some DPs.
    Here is the setup:
    ConfigMgr 2012 R2 on Server 2012 R2.
DP are on Server 2008 R2 (for the most part).
DP are installed using the exact same way, adding the Primary Site Server to the local Admins group, then using the console to install the role, selecting BranchCache and Configure IIS.
    No PXE.
Boundary groups are configured as appropriate.
When initiating a client push the following errors are displayed in the CCMSetup.log:
Failed to correctly receive a WEBDAV HTTP request.. (StatusCode at WinHttpQueryHeaders: 401)
Failed to check url http://DPServerName.com/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/S0100003. Error 0x80004005
Enumerated all 1 local DP locations but none of them is good. Fallback to MP.
    GET 'HTTP://MPServerName.com/CCM_Client/ccmsetup.cab'
The installation is done but yet again, no local DP are used.
The same scenario is actually working on other DP that was configured using the same exact way.
Servers where not new installation and where used for other things:
    MDT Deployment Share with PXE.
    Other share.
As far as I can tell, IIS is well configured as I am able to deploy any other software on clients and they are using the local DP. Only the client installation is causing problem.
    Anyone have any idea?
There is a lot of post about a similar problem on ConfigMgr 2007 but all solution are to configure WebDAV, which is not configured in ConfigMgr 2012.
Thank you guys for any tip and/or help!
    Mathieu

I did double checked with a friend about my configuration and everything, just to make sure, and everything seems to be right.
As for the use of account used to get the client, a domain join computer will not need to us the network access account if the DP is in the same domain and the same exact config on other servers is working like a charm deploying the client, same
    security and configuration.
All default IIS security and share permission.
Thank you guys for your suggestion and help.

  • Failed to resume task sequence / ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 vs. R2

We have two configMgr environment at customers place.  A Lab Environment and production Environment. Till July 2014 both environment were at the same Version level (ConfigMgr 2012 SP1).
We create the WIM-Image in LAB to use this WIM in the production. There were no problems till yet. Some months before we updated our
LAB to ConfigMgr 2012 R2 CU2. The Production is still
ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 CU3. Now if we create a new image in our LAB we can't use this Image in Production.
OSD ends after 'Setup Windows and ConfigMgr' step. There is an error:
Can't we use an captured Image from a ConfigMgr 2012 R2 environment in a ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 environment?

I am not 100% if this is really supported (even if the versions were equal). I've seen situations where you can still see references to the MP and sitecode of the test environment when having a close look at the logs (although it did not cause real issues).

  • ConfigMgr 2012 Distribution Point Schedule - UTC or Local?

When setting the replication schedule for a distribution point in ConfigMgr 2012, is the schedule represented as UTC time or local time?

Unfortunately not, but google translate usually does a great job (I can read and unterstand the translated version ;-) )

  • Postpone/Snooze updates on User Machines - ConfigMgr 2012 R2

I am aware that there is no postpone option available for Users when Software updates are pushed to client machines.
However I did some changes in client setting under Client restart and policy. After updates deployments I am getting below snooze option but not sure which changes has enabled this.
I do want this option to appear for users and no system reboot unless they themselves do but keep them reminding with snooze option. Can someone help with steps on this if this is really supported and configurable.
    Thanks

  • ConfigMgr 2012 MP – suspending SCOM agent/health service

    Hi,
I use SCOM agent/health for our SLA reporting. I found a handful of servers last month with something like 99.9% uptime even though I knew they had been up all of the time. Looking in the Operations Manager event log I have found the following events related
    to ConfigMgr 2012 -
The System Center 2012 - Operations Manager agent running on computer "XXXXXXXXXXXXX" is suspended for the following reason:
    "ConfigMgr 5.00.7804.1000 - SMS_MaintenanceTaskRequests –
I am trying to understand what and why it is doing this. Presumably something in the ConfigMgr MP is trying to “fix” something with a task? However if I checked open/closed alerts for the servers involved I can’t see any type of alert getting created.
I have opened the ConfigMgr MP with “Management Pack Viewer” but can’t find any Diagnostics, Recoveries or Tasks listed. Just wondered if anyone had any idea what this was or perhaps it’s a task related to a SCOM internal MP itself? I can’t find any other examples
of the agent getting suspended whilst something gets “fixed”

    Hi,
This event is telling you that the SCOM Agent is being paused for an SCCM Maintenance task (often a backup).

    Repair WMI by deleting root\ccm
    Recreated the WMI Repository
Register all *.dll and *.mof in WBEM
Cleaned up with the ccmclean Tool
    We use SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3
The error happens on Vista and Windows 7
From the logs, it looks that something went wrong with the ccmexec service, but I'm not sure. In the Eventlogs are some entries from the Search Service that the Service unexpectly stopped. But not much more.

CCMClean.exe is not supported for ConfigMgr 2012, but I guess that you know that :)
Have you tried 'ccmsetup.exe /uninstall', wait for it to complete and then install again?
Perhaps the steps taken in the last comment from this thread can help you:

  • ConfigMgr 2012 Capture media does not run

I am experiencing an issue in more than one customer environments (so far) and in my own VM environment (which is now running the full release version of ConfigMgr 2012), capture media when ran within a functional OS doesn't give me a wizard.   I thought
    this might just have been an RC1 issue, but this is also now a problem for me with the full release.  I find the TSMBAutorun.log in the %temp% folder and notice it is saying the following;
    TSMBAutoRun started
    Unknown system architecture 0
    failed to run TSMBootstrap
The running OS is a fully patched Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit, but have also tried capturing from a 64bit Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 as well. I have tried burning the capture iso to a cdrom and extracting to the root of a USB key. Also tried generating
directly to a USB key and the result is the same.  I have tried adding a dummy SYSPREP folder onto C:.  I'm trying to run as regular and elevated user and as administrator.  I have tried regenerating the boot images and capture media iso file.
A fully automated build and capture task sequence works fine, but I prefer to perform a manual capture using capture media.
I've done this many, many times before with ConfigMgr 2007 capture media so I'm no noob to this process.
Any ideas? What is TSMBootstrap actually looking for and why does it not recognise the system architecture.
    Andy

Hello all. Or you can leave every thing in place in your task sequence and just modify the usb or ISO boot media (if you have daemon tools).
    Here are the steps:
1 - Create Capture boot media in SCCM 2012 RTM
2 - After boot media is created browse to this directory <working drive>\SMS\bin\i386
    3 - Create a directory called SMS
4 - double click this directory and create a directory called "bin"
5 - double click this directory and create a directory called x64. When you are done your path should look like this: <working drive>\SMS\bin\i386\SMS\bin\X64
6 - Now navigate back to the <working drive>\SMS\bin\x64 directory and copy ALL of the contents to the \SMS\bin\i386\SMS\bin\X64 directory
That's it!! Now you can run the TSMBAutorun.exe file from explorer, cmd, etc successfully.
The reason this works is because now the windows environment has a defined path for the reasons explained above. Now you don't have to circumvent security features like "disabling the GPO Pack" task sequence step.
I validated this fix after reading this post:
    http://jackychuasce.blogspot.com/2012/05/why-click-on-tsmbautorunexe-cannot.html
    Thank you Jacky!!
    JV
You know, as I was reading through here I thought the short-term fix or workaround was to just prepare the path to what it expects! At least until the fix arrives.
