Tranports from EBCDIC 46.c to  Unicode ECC6.0

Hey
We want import some Transport Request from our EBCDIC 4.6C to our Unicode ECC6.0. But we got always follow Error:
HALT: This program has version 6.14, the file is not an R3trans data file. Please contact the SAP support
We use the last Version of TP and R3trans in both System's.
I've tried to copy the Data and Cofile to other Codepage and import but also not help.
When i do this from our ASCII 4.6C to our Unicode ECC6.0 it will work. They have the same Version of TP and R3TRANS.
Has anybody any Hint for me?
Thank you
Gerhard

Hello Gerhard,
indeed this issue is a little tricky and since I processed now a few messages I created SAP note
1078252 to describe the handling. Unfortunately, it is not yet released and translated but will be soon. The trick is that the Unicode R3trans is able to read ASCII data which the EBCDIC R3trans cannot produce. How does it work?
1. you need an ASCII R3trans version
If you have an ASCII kernel somewhere in your system landscape you need to have at least patch 2317 (46D release), 173 (640 release) or 100 (700 release). It doesn't matter which release you use.
2. adopt the transport profile for the EBCDIC system
Add a line with "SID/R3TRANSOPTIONS = compress=no", where SID is the system ID of the exporting EBCDIC system. Compressed transport files are not allowed here. This needs to be done only once.
3. convert the data file
R3trans -c /usr/sap/trans/data/Rnnnnnn.SID.EBCDIC /usr/sap/trans/data/Rnnnnnn.SID.ASCII
The ASCII R3trans has to be called as above for the conversion. Rnnnnnn.SID.EBCDIC is the data file in EBCDIC coding and Rnnnnnn.SID.ASCII the file in ASCII. You might rename the files in a right manner to keep the original transport order number.
4. import it to the Unicode system
Probably you have to create a new cofile (with command TP 'createcofile ...') and afterwards you can import it to your Unicode system.
Hope this explains the procedure. I will update your customer message once the new SAP note has been released and translated.
Best regards

    Hi Des Gallagher,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have gone through the notes suggested by you, but they suggest issues related to BW 3.x versions. We are currently on SAP_BW 700 - SP16. Also, among other notes i found note 510882 which might be helpful for custom developments.
But i am still wondering whether we are going to face major issues related to data extraction from non-unicode ECC6 system to unicode SAP_BW 700 system.
Incase you have any further details, please let me know.

  • Load from EBCDIC file to Oracle 9i tables using UTL_FILE

Hello, I have a requirement to load EBCDIC file from Mainframe to load to Oracle 9i tables and then do some transformation. Then again create EBCDIC file from database table. I'm not sure if this is possible using UTL_FILE, though i have seen people loading using SQL * Loader. If possible, can you please give some sample code for this? I would appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Karuna

    Hi,
I'm reading data from EBCDIC file in Oracle PL/SQL using UTL_FILE. I wasn't able to read BINARY data type from EBCDIC to Oracle. Initially i thought the problem was due to the following reasons discussed in the article.
    http://support.sas.com/techsup/technote/ts642.html
    <quote>
    Solutions
The only way to overcome the problem of non-standard numeric data being corrupted by the FTP is to move the data without translating it. This will necessitate making some significant changes in your program. It may also require preprocessing the data file on the mainframe. The sections below list the different types of files and situations, a recommended approach to read in the file, and a sample program to accomplish the task.
    </quote>
But we have confirmed that the contents of EBCDIC file is fine by looking into the EBCDIC file using a tool that will convert EBCDIC to ASCII. The contents are absolutely ok.
Now how do i read the Binary data from EBCDIC file.
    My code is like this...
    Open the file using UTL_FILE.FOPEN
    UTL_FILE.GET_LINE(file_handler,string,lengthofthestring)
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(SUBSTR(CONVERT(string,ASCIIUS7,EBCDIC),1,4));
--This is generating an output as "&". The actual data is
    --005. Since this is
--declared as binary in EBCDIC file, I'm unable to read
    --and print it.
--same is the case with other binary data types.
--I'm able to read the other datatypes clearly
    UTL_FILE.FCLOSE.
How do I resolve this? I would appreciate your help on this. This is something critical and immediate requirement for us.
    Thanks

  • Corrputed loaded text from an Export Datasource with Unicode

    Hi Experts
I am new with BW and this forum helped me a lot in the past year.
I am loading texts to an InfoObject using a Master Data (texts) Export DataSource from another InfoObject. The system is NetWeaver 2004s (BW 3.5) with Unicode.
The InfoObject's Text MD is Language Dependent but users enter the system only with EN language.
For some reason the loaded texts are corrupted.
For example:  The original InfoObject has Hebrew texts (that were loaded perfectly from the source system which is also Unicode), but the text in the PSA table and in the text table of the target InfoObject will be: ###########
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Niraj
    Thanks for your answers
    Let me explain:
Currently, we load texts with Hebrew chars from the SAP ECC6 system and everything is good (we see Hebrew chars in SAPGUI/BEx/WAD etc.)
The problem occurs when we load these texts from one InfoObject to another, via Export DataSource.
To do that, We generated an Export DataSource for the original InfoObject and assigned it to the target InfoSource of the other InfoObject. After running an InfoPackage for this DataSource, the texts that were loaded to the PSA (and hence, to the target InfoObject texts table) were corrupted - which means that they appeared: ##########

  • JCO Error when communicate with a UNICODE ECC6.0

    HI all,
we use JCO to get data from SAP R3 system.
Before, our R3 is non-unicode system and it work OK, now we want to upgrade to ECC6.0 and its a UNICODE system.
when we send data from ECC6.0 to the JCO Server, the conncetion is OK, but we get no data from SAP ECC6.0.
i find some documents about the solution of UNICODE backend sysytem, and i followed them:
    1- set the 'UNICODE' option of my destination in SM59 ;
    2- set the UNICODE property of my JCO Server:  this.setProperty("jco.server.unicode", "1");
after this, it can still not work.
ist, i test the destination, its not OK
then i send data to the JCO Server, i got an error:

  • How can I copy text from Pages and paste as Unicode?

I notice that if I write a Pages document on my iMac (this is Pages 09 running under OSX Mavericks 10.9.1) and copy text that contains characters from the "Mac Roman" character set (like the Greek letter pi for example, and some other mathematical symbols), if I paste it into a text file on a PC (I'm running the Mac with Windows via Parallels), then these characters don't show up correctly. If they were copied as Unicode characters then I don't think the problem would exist. I thought that Pages used Unicode, but it doesn't apparently apply to stuff that gets onto the Mac clipboard. I do know that if I export a whole Pages document it is possible for it to be exported in Unicode, but I just want to copy small bits of text like mathematical formulae and paste them into Unicode-compliant applications. Is this possible? There's nothing in the Pages Preferences to suggest that it is. Is there any solution to this?
    TIA

Tom, I'm sorry I think I have wasted your time. My initial experiments seemed to show that what I was trying to do didn't work, but now it all seems to work. No idea why. I think there is a problem somewhere, but not where I thought it was. I think what may be happening is that when the Mac clipboard sees some Mac Roman text, it converts and stores it in Unicode form, so things work as long as the receiving app is Unicode aware - or Parallels is doing the job for me, or Pages is. Good if this is true. The only issue then would be that, if a program for the PC is looking for characters by their encodings, it will have to use the Unicode ones to find things, whereas the equivalent code on a Mac will have to look for the Mac Roman encodings as well as Unicode.
Just to explain, I am not using a specialised mathematical formula editor, but I do expect my user to use the math symbols easily accessible on the Mac keyboard, particularly the Greek letter pi (lower case), division sign, less than or equal to, greater than or equal to, square root. The user can type text directly or paste it in from another application. On the PC side I am not using Microsoft Word but a program I'm developing that can create fields into which I can put text, similar I suppose to NotePad. Just to be able to be cross-platform, I expect users to use the built-in Windows Character Viewer or similar to make the same symbols accessible as in the Mac version.
If everyone was using Unicode the problem (if there is one) wouldn't exist.
I may well come back with a similar issue in the future, but my original issue, although the description was given in good faith, seems to be wrong. So I'm saying the problem is solved.

  • Oracle Migration from 8i (WE8ISO8859P1) to 9i (Unicode)

We have a database in oracle8i with
    NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
The character set WE8ISO8859P1 does not support GREEK language.
The user inserts/modifies records in this databse from the front-end. The front end installed in the client machine has the following setting:
    Control Panel->Regional settings ->Advanced ->
Language for non-unicode programs = Greek
    Oracle client installed in English
Greek characters have been inserted/updated into this database and retrieved and displayed correctly by the GUI.
Note: Greek data has been inserted into WE8ISO8859P1 database which does not support Greek characters.
hence the actual data that is stored in the database are not Greek. Only while displaying, they are getting converted into Greek characters due to the settings in the client machine.
Requirement: Migrate the database to Oracle 9i Unicode.
While migration, we need to eliminate any data discrepancy and make sure the data in the Unicode dabase is in Greek.
Can you suggest us a method to do the migration to avoid the above problem, and a way to check what are the characters that are stored in the database and help us identify if they are real Greek characters.

There is no way to do a "cold" export, since Oracle needs to access the database to do the export. The closest you could come would be to shutdown the listener on the 81 box, shut it down, then open it in restricted mode and do your export.
There is no need to copy archive logs, redo logs, or anything other than the export dump file.
I'm not sure how big the differences are between NT and Win2k in terms of O/S file structures. If the two are fully compatible, you if you can install 8i on the Win2k machine as well as 9, then you could do something like:
Copy your last backup, plus all archive logs to the Win2k machine.
Do a recovery there to re-create the 8i database using the 8i Oracle install.
Shut down the 8i database, and open it under the 9 install and do an inplace migration.

  • Convert JMS Headers from EBCDIC to ASCII when using JMS Bridge (WLS - WMQ)

I have a Java app on Weblogic 11g using a Message Bridge to talk JMS with IBM Websphere MQ. The MQ server is running on IBM z/OS platform which uses EBCDIC encoding. I need to use the Weblogic message selector feature to filter messages on the bridge coming from Websphere MQ. But the JMS Headers of MSGs posted by WMQ are in EBCDIC format. How can I instruct MQ to convert the msg headers to ASCII before put on the bridge? Is there any flag on bindings config file? Or can I set some WMQ specific header before sending the msg on WLS side?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Such option is not possible in weblogic but I think this property will help you with in MQ.
    Property - Convert EBCDIC newline
Description - EBCDIC code pages contain a new line (NL) character that is not supported by the ASCII code pages (although some ISO variants of ASCII contain an equivalent). If messages are sent from a system that uses EBCDIC code pages (for example, a z/OS system) to a system that uses ASCII, you can control how the EBCDIC newline character is converted into ASCII format.
The default value is NL_TO_LF, which means that the EBCDIC NL character (X'15') is converted to the ASCII line feed character LF (X'0A') for all EBCDIC to ASCII conversions. To convert the EBCDIC NL character according to the conversion tables on your operating system, click TABLE. Note that the results of a TABLE conversion can vary from platform to platform and from language to language; even on the same platform the results might vary if you use different coded character set identifiers (CCSIDs). To convert ISO CCSIDs using the TABLE method and use the NL_TO_LF method for all other CCSIDs, click ISO.
    Registry Stanza Key - ConvEBCDICNewline
Also, the MQSeries (not MQSC) adapter provides the data conversion property may handle this conversion as well.

    Kal

    Hi Alik,
I have strong doubts that this will work ...
From SAP notes 842767 and 901004 you can see, that spool data will not be converted properly by default.
In general this is valid for data stored in TemSe, as this is by definition temporary data (see for example http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/d9/4a8f9c51ea11d189570000e829fbbd/content.htm ).
However I actually did not test it, so I am not 100% sure.

  • Error using SHIFT statement when migrating program from R/3 4.7 to ECC6.0

    Hello Experts,
The SHIFT statement is giving following error in ECC6.0 but the same is warning in R/3 4.7.
"Floating point variable can not be used with SHIFT statement.".
Statement is - SHIFT itab-f1 by 5 places where f1 is a floting point field.
We passed the value in string variable and used in the SHIFT statement. It is removing the error but not giving the result same as in R/3 4.7.
Please let me know how to solve this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rahul

    Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
We don't know why was this code written. We are just moving the object from R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 and fixing the errors.
Could you please let me know "What it means to SHIFT a floating point variable by some spaces"? .
This i am asking because SHIFT RIGHT generally means to shif the value to the right by some spaces i.e. inserting space at the starting.
But in case of floating point it change the value itself. If you can tell me then i can find an alternative solution to get the same result.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Sending IDOCs from an MDMP to a Unicode system

    Colleagues
I have been trying to send IDOCs containing Chinese characters from an MDMP system to a Unicode system.  The data is not being translated from the Chinese code page 8400 to Unicode format.
To date I have created a new IDOC segment, within the original IDOC, which contains the language dependant data preceded by a language element.  I have also maintained SM59 on the receiving system (Unicode) to mark the sending system (in SM59 defined as an R/3 connection) as non-unicode, and activated the MDMP settings and mapping the language key ZH to codepage 8400.  I have also checked that the language key and code page is valid in the unicode box. This still doesn’t work.
I was under the impression that the RFC system would translate the IDOC line by line and if it found a language key in the segment translate it using the code page assigned to that language, but this doesn’t seem to be the case.  The sending system is 4.5C and the receiving system 4.7.
Is there anyway to get this to work without playing with the IDOC processing routines such as IDOC_INBOUND_ASYNCHRONOUS?  Is there something Im missing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
Perhaps you may want to try to use IDoc file interface instead of RFC.
You can use standard program RSEINB00 to process and post the IDoc file.

  • Generating PDF-files from HTML-page saved as Unicode?

I have followed this Quick Start on how to generate a PDF-file from HTML using web services in .NET: http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/programLC/programmer/help/000093.html
It works just fine when the html-page is saved as ANSI, but when it's saved as UNICODE I get problem. The code runs without errors but the PFD looks really strange. Any suggestions on how to solve this? I really need to use UNICODE as my application needs to handle different languages (including for example Chinese).

I found out that UTF-8 worked as well so the problem is solved. :-)

I´m not sure what you mean by "old table to new table".
The general table structure is not changed, VBAK + VBAP are still there. They may have been extended by additional fields, depending on how your system is implemented. It´s also possible, that if you activate any business function after the upgrade, that tables will get appends.
The old IDOC structures working before the upgrade should work after the upgrade the same way since those structures are not touched.

    Dear David,
Yes, because iff its unicode upgrade project, very first step you have to check is attributes of the program, activate the "unicode check active" checkbox. Next you have to goto "UCCHECK" transaction, there it will throws all errors like unicode errors and Obsolete FMs(ws_download,ws_upload,upload,download,popup_to_confirm_step,,etc). After this if you have any doubts on Obsolete function modules, goto Extended program check for that object, in that, it will shows all Obsolete FMs(it will displayed in 3rd row "call function interface warnings".
Let me know if you have any queries.
