  • Removing imlib2-cvs: "something has gone horribly wrong

    Hi there,
I did a pacman -Syu today, and pacman wanted to replace imlib2-cvs with imlib2. So far, so good. I said "yes" to the removal, but pacman complained that ffmpeg and adesklets require imlib2-cvs.
So I deinstalled those two packages.
Now, if I try to upgrade, I get the following error message:
error: something has gone horribly wrong
If I pacman -R imlib2-cvs, it claims that imlib2-cvs is required by adesklets and ffmpeg--even though those two packages have been removed.
So obviously, something has gone wrong with the pacman "database." Question is: how can I fix it? Delete the entries for adesklets and ffmpeg in /var/lib/pacman? Delete the entry for imlib2-cvs? Do something completely different?
Some feedback would be much welcome. I hope my system is not broken for good ...
    Cheers,
    -Sascha.rb

    pacman -Rd imlib2-cvs
    pacman -S imlib2
... let me install the new imlib2 package, after all. No idea whether it fixed the weird dependency issue I had ("something has gone horribly wrong"), but at least it's working ...

  • Pacman: "something has gone horribly wrong"

    Hi all,
So I started The Big Xorg Upgrade on my laptop. First I removed xorg (to get around the bitstream fonts conflict) and started pacman -Syu. During the package downloads I noticed that I still use some old configuration where the downloads come from ftp.nethat.com , which is very far from me, whereas now I have a much closer mirror ftp.estpak.ee . So I killed pacman and wget, corrected pacman.conf, and rerun pacman -Syu. The downloads were finished nicely, but then I got the following message:
    checking package integrity...done
error: something has gone horribly wrong
I have never seen such an error before, and probably I should not have seen it at all. But still I did:) So can anyone tell me what it is about and under which conditions is it shown? Should I file a bug report?
    Jan
Edit: I cleared the package cache, downloaded all the packages from the same source and I still get the same message. So it was not a problem caused by the interrupted upgrade (and in fact I have done interrupted upgrades in the past with no problems). Any ideas and/or explanations are greatly welcome.

Tried that and the message is still the same.
Cerebral wrote:On an unhelpful note: that's possibly the scariest error message I've ever seen.
Yeah, Arch is not for cowards:D
But the mystery still stays ... any comments from the developers?

  • TS3376 the application is working good, but the location of my device has found was totally wrong. any idea?

the application is working good, but the location of my device has found was totally wrong. any idea?

That would be the issue here.
The gateway is a modem/router that is in charge of your network.
The AirPort sensed this during setup and configured itself to operate correctly and passively with an "upstream" router on the network.....so, the Airport is in Bridge Mode.
The upside is that the AirPort is configured correctly to work with your gateway. The downside.....and Catch 22....is that the Guest Network will not operate correctly when the AirPort is in Bridge Mode.
The AirPort has to be the router "in charge" in order for the Guest Network feature to work correctly.
If you want to try to break some basic networking rules, and have two devices both trying to perform routing chores on the network, that might be a workaround.  But, things get complicated to set this up.....and it will produce what is known as a Double NAT error on the network......which may allows things to work OK....or....cause problems.
Double NAT errors are unpredictable. It will be one of those things where you will not know if things will work until you try. No guarantees possible.
The network will have to be completely redone if you want to try this, and you will have to set up new Static IP addresses for devices that need them.
In general, if you want to try this, the network layout must look like this:
Internet Connection > SMC Gateway > AirPort Express > Ethernet Switch > Devices.
With things set up the way that they are now......the simpler thing to do would be to use the SMC wireless for your "main" network and the AirPort Express wireless for "guests".
The downside....."guests" will be able to "see" devices on your "main" network with this type of setup.

  • Library Transfer to New Computer Gone Horribly Wrong

I got a laptop for Christmas, so I tried to use my iPod to transfer my library from the old computer to the new laptop. I followed all the directions, but when I got to the last step that said all my songs and playlists and everything should be in itunes, nothing was there. And there weren't any further directions for what to do if that should happen. So I imported the file that I had transferred and I thought I had solved my problem, but when I double-click to play any of my songs itunes comes up with an error that says it can't locate the song file. It would take forever to go through individually and match up all the folders, not to mention the whole thing is somewhat jumbled and some files are missing completely. I need help figuring out what went wrong, and if I should start over and try the DVD method or something else...i have roughly 1000 songs+video so I don't know how many DVDs that would end up filling.
    Help please!
      Windows XP

I would seriously thing about getting a larger drive for your computer. If you are talking about your Thinkpad, then probably the best thing to do is invest in an external hard drive. You can buy them ready made or put one together for very cheap.
If you then set up your iTunes to work off the external hard drive, you should then be able to get all your tunes off the iPod and into the external drive.

  • T510: Service shipped the wrong parts??! Where can I complain?

I own a t510 that is under warranty, 3 weeks ago it was determined both by the lenovo in person tech and the over the phone tech:
-The wrong system board was ordered by the lenovo tech when the initial problem occurred
    - The wrong system board was installed by them.
    - The Nvidia graphics card is currently missing, noone is sure why.
    - The palm rest does not click in properly
    - The touch pad does not work.
    - The hard drive came but there is no Windows 7 Pro Recovery CDs so could not install that.
    - No BIOS or OS
After getting off of the phone with the phone tech, and the in person tech everyone was very frustrated. Most said they "wish they could do something more" but their "hands were tied." Which leaves me in a horrible position. I had a working computer (with a few glitches ) and now I have a complete brick. I am absolutely livid about how that week has gone especially in terms of Lenovomaking things right. It is sad that a company as esteemed as IBM has now turned into this. I believe we will slowly shift my entire company's fleet away from Lenovo, and further more will use this as a flagship example to our clients and frends who are large buyers in the healthcare and auto sectors.
The techs said they are going to try to order some parts and I can install them when they come, I cancelled 3 flights and 3 days of meetings now as a result of these issues.  And ended up having to buy a new computer and leave town the next day when the parts didn't show up on time. Also if history is any indication I expect some part to come and that may or may not solve my issues, and may or may not have ever even supposed to be a part of this computer.
When I bought this computer I bought it with specific parts for specific reasons. The solutiions lenovo has given me have left me with a frankenstein machine that doesn't function. This is all for a machine less than 11 months old.
To make matters worse I have so far been 0 for 4 in customer service reps calling me back, and 1 for 3 in getting someone to return an email. I was also told over the phone in not so many words that Lenovo would just wait until my warranty runs out so that they no longer have to worry about it.
This laptop is my business, it is the heart & soul of what I need to make a livelihood everyday. For 3 weeks+ now I haven't had a email, phone call or any form of contact from anyone at Lenovo. I have not been offered a replacement laptop or some sort of remuneration. But what I do have, due to the actions of Lenovo techs and Lenovo phone tech support service and due to no fault of my own (The computer has been unfunctional since techs showed up) is a brick.
I hoped Lenovo  would understand my frustrations and might do the right thing to make things right, but I have lost that hope slowly over the last 3 weeks.
Has anyone dealt with issues like this? Does anyone know how to navigate the poor lenovo customer service system? anybody heard of other companies which treat customers this poorly? Is there anything else I can do? Are lemons common with lenovo?
Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

I have officially called into technical support 5+ times, with a total hold/call time of 12 hours and 32 minutes. Noone in the "right" department has called me back and the one personwho gave me a direct number has been unreachable because the number doesn't work.
    Unsure how to proceed.

  • HORRIBLE Customer Service and total lack of communication!!

On the evening of July 21st I lost my internet connection.  The next morning I calledand they said they could send a tech out and the earliest they had was on 24th between 8am and 12pm.  I said that would have to be ok since I have to go into work that afternoon (even though I was hoping they would have a tech available that day or even the next day!).  I asked if the tech would call when he/she arrives because I live in a condo and my door may be difficult to find.  They said absolutely and they would make a note of that.
Today, July 24th, I sat around and waited all day for someone to show up.
12:05 - I called to ask what the status was on my tech arriving.  I was informed that the tech was currently working on the lines and I should hear from the tech between 1:30-2:30.
2:35 - I called back because I still received no phone call and no one showed up.  I was then told that I should hear from them between 3:00-4:00.  I informed them that I needed to go to work and that was why I scheduled the appointment for the morning hours.  I was told to just wait a little longer because I HAD to be home for them when they arrive.
2:38 - I received a verizon "do not reply" message stating that a tech has been dispached.  Hmmm...I was informed twice already that someone was already working on the lines.
4:03 - I had to call again because I STILL did not hear from a tech nor did a tech ever show up.  They tell me they are "working on the box" but then tell me that a tech showed up but no one was there.  I was sitting home all day!  Then they ask if I had any missed calls.  Obviously not since I was waiting all day for their call or for them to ring the doorbell.  Then I'm told, "Well maybe the tech has your wrong information.  Let's check your address and phone number."  What a joke!  Of course all of my information was correct.  "Well, the tech said no one was there."  I then told them that the tech is lying to cover their butts because I was home all morning and afternoon.  They said they will get someone out their quickly to fix this and someone should arrive soon.
4:37 - I received another verizon "do not reply message stating "repair request has been resolved.  thank you for using verizon."  I checked and sure enough I still was unable to connect to the internet.  I decided to wait to see if someone would show up at my door...what was I thinking!
5:00 - I called AGAIN.  They said "It looks like you line is fixed, but now we have to reset and reconfigure your modem.  I will walk you through the steps."  ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!  If I did not call, how would this have been handled?!
After we reconfigured the modem, I finally had my internet back.  However, I asked to be transfered to a supervisor.  What a joke that was.  I told the supervisor everything and all I got was "I'm sorry.  This won't happen again.  We will look into it."
I then was transfered to Billing so I could request a credit for the days that I had no internet.
I had to miss work today because of Verizon's incompetance.  There was no communication AT ALL.  I SPECIFICALLY planned this around my work schedule so I wouldn't have to MISS work.  And because of Verizon, I had to call out at the last minute because I kept being told "a tech should be contacting you soon...just wait a little longer."
I am EXTREMELY upset with verizon's customer service.  You could really care less about inconveniencing your customers, so stop teaching them to say "sorry for your inconvenience."  Between being told "someone is currently working on your lines," to text messages saying "someone is being dispatched," and then "someone was there but you weren't," no one knows what anyone is doing there obviously and all you are doing is trying to cover up your own mistakes.
I am currently looking into a different service provider and will be sharing this with others who are thinking about switching to verizon.  This is totally unacceptable.  Having to call out of work at the last second made me look irresponsible and incompetant and I lost a day's pay...and all I get is an "I'm sorry, it won't happen again."
    What a joke.

    Good morning ranatlas,
We were able to resolve the issues you had with your service. We did do some extensive troubleshooting to isolate the slow speed issue. Please let us know if you have any more questions or concerns here on the forums. You were a pleasure to work with and our team wishes you a great day.

  • Why is BT service so totally useless?

The broadband service was terrible. Infinity even worse. The installation of the service was like pulling my own teeth with pliers but more painful. The engineer didn't check it so it didn't work from the start after installation in the wrong place and messing up all the wiring. BT then wanted to charge me for the pleasure of sorting it out. After weeks and weeks and a complaint to the MDs office and several engineers later and a cost of hundreds to me in lost days and time BT managed to cobble together a working system. Well done.
It was still so poor that the wi-fi service just about issued a signal to devices a few feet away. Wow. Incredible. From a company with a de facto virtual monopoly. A monopoly since they own and operate most of the exchanges and then service them for all the ISPs. Hmm so it goes wrong when with company X you are still reliant on BT to fix it.
One problem they outsource this to Openreach via Kelly Communications. Who don't train their engineers because BT pay them whatever. BT then try to charge the customer to sort out the problems. Kelly Comms engineers are effectively self-employed so don't want to spend time fixing things just doing bare minimum. No wonder stuff goes wrong. All the time.
A few days ago the poor service that had meant hard wiring a computer to get internet access even though the modem was virtually next to it, turned to a really rubbish one. It started to drop and drop and then stop. Wi-fi according to the sales and customer support teams is a luxury add on. They line test the speed to the box and it gives a speed into the modem so they can say job done but we would like to charge you for an engineer to check it out. Again.
BT are very good on this rubbish upselling. Trying to charge to sort out their own issues and then sell more of the most awful services. But totally lacking on customer care.
In the meantime the BT Hub pumps out about 0.66 Mb on a download speed. Broadband was poor but better than this and cheaper. BT are confused, bemused, baffled and unable to act or to even think about compensating me for the sheer amount of time (and as a result money) spent trying to sort this out while their engineers are a) the wrong kind and not trained in this area b) baffled or can't be bothered and want to get someone else c) mess it up even more. Oh and all the time BT try to charge me for these call outs.
Truly an appalling company. And another thing your web site is atrocious designed to ensure nobody can find any contact information whilst offering advice to fix things online when you are trying to resolve an issue about not getting online.
So the question: why is BT so totally useless?

Not sure what that means ...80/20 is what?
But two things spring to mind:
    1. the Homehub may be "capable" of delivering a reasonable speed over wi-fi - but it doesn't
    2. the modem seems to be taking in top speed but then dramatically slowing down between modem and homehub
    3. BT staff when faced with this problem say a) wi-fi is not their concern it is a luxury an add-on or b) they don't know
    4. Infinity is oversold and as many others have pointed out the issue is in the sophistry of the wording "up to" what customers want is a reliable, reasonable service that provides something similar to that which is promised - add in a relatively efficient service that does not seek to charge of every engineer visit and to have engineers who may have some idea why a problem is occurring and have an idea how to resolve it.
I could add most people are not technically minded and just want what they pay for - BT fails on almost every matrix

  • Cisco 1142N AP - Upgrade gone really wrong

    Hi everyone,
I have run into a major issue with an autonomous Cisco 1142AP. We were in the midst of a firmware upgrade when something went wrong and caused the AP to reboot in an error mode. Basically the unit was flashing Blue, amber, red. We unmounted the unit from the wall, connected to the console, and it would now only flash red over and over.
We pulled out the cisco guides and performed a factory reset on the unit. This still does not work. and the contents of our flash directory is empty. All we get is a ROMMON AP prompt on the unit. If I issue a set command, I can see the default settings for IP, netmask, etc.
I cannot access the unit via the network, even after setting IP info and matching it up to my laptop. Since I have no network connectivity, I can't TFTP a new IOS file to the unit.
I am stumped. Any ideas how to get the config as if it was out of the box, or an alternate way to TFTP to the unit?

    Can the bootstrap be reinitialized?

    Hi,
Unfortunately I had followed that portion of the procedure but I was unsuccessful. Unfortunately I could not connect to the unit at all.
What bothers me now is I cannot type anything in the CLI after I boot up, either normally, by interupting the boot, or by performing a reset.
Edit: I am now able to type in the CLI, but there is also kinds of bizarro information when I run the set command. Is there a way to clean up this set config? Also, is there any other mechanism to transfer the IOS image other than TFTP. Like I said, I can't connect to the unit via network, only console.

  • My music on iTunes has gone completely wrong. Could anyone please help me?

Hello everyone. I'll try and keep this as unconvoluted as possible so here goes...
I have iTunes 10.4.1.10, although the problem started with the previous update. I was trying to sync music from a Top rated playlist to a new iPhone (a 3GS with up-to-date-software) when I noticed that some of the albums which I had previously has on had disappeared. All of  my albums are saved onto an external hard drive, but the album icons were not on the music library. I put the albums back on (and a few new ones) and a message came up saying that the albums/songs were already there and would I like to replace them; I clicked the 'yes' button. I went about giving the songs I wanted in my Top Rated with no problems and went to sync them as normal. This is where it goes wrong.
iTunes goes through the syncing motions (Steps 1 and 2), reaches Step 3 where it syncs the songs, syncs about 40 of the songs (there are 770 in total) before reaching one of the songs which I had found missing and had put on again. iTunes crashes ( I think that describes it: the 'syncing bar' at the top stays frozen on the song, it will not shut down but everntually stops trying to syns and I can shut it down again; and when I look at the iPod on my iPhone it says cancelling sync and then that it is updating the library before going back to normal).
This was done on the first attempts, now when I try it syncs one songs before the problem song before going wrong. A thing to note about the song before is that the song that ends up on my ipod isn't the one it said that it was syncing, and the songs do not appear to be added in any sort of order.
After this I get a message that the song that caused this cannot be found: 'Attempting to copy to the disk "Charlie's iPhone" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).' Sometimes this is followed by a similar message which says that the song in question cannot be found.
When I put my hard drive into the computer it says that there may be a problem with some of the files on the hard drive and would I like to scan and fix them, but it does not specify whether those files are music files (there are photo files, Word files, all sorts on it). I haven't given it permission to do so yet, this has not caused problems with previous i-Pods -Phones or Tunes and I don't exactly see how this would affect it now anyway seeing as the files have been re-done (burned off of iTunes and stored on the hard drive directly), but this may help work out the problem.
A few last things. There is are albums which I definately have NOT put onto iTunes or my hard drive which has appeared on my iTunes music selection and I highly doubt are in the house (Bob Acri's self-titled album containing just song 3 and Fine Music, Vol. 1 by Richard Stoltzman containing the second song), they may have been added onto the computer by another family member and just innocently found their way on iTunes and my hard drive, but they're not the sort of thing anyone in my family would listen to, so maybe that might help someone diagnose the problem too.
Also, the same thing is happening with my laptop, which has the previous update to the one I mentioned above. This would suggets that its either the new updates fault or the hard drive's fault, I would suspect it would be the former as the laptop too did not have any issues like this, or indeed at all, before the two updates.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time for reading through, and if anyone could offer any hints or tip or advice to get iTunes back to speed I would be very grateful.
    Thank you!

Having a similar issue.  Everytime i restart itunes its like its the first time its run and wants to look for music.   Yes, please help!

  • Transfer of service between lines & major loss of ...

Prior to Monday 1st March we had two phone lines installed, the first for phone and the second for broadband and fax (a legacy of when I required a separate fax line for work and when we using dail-up internet). The broadband speed was good, not the 8Mbs advertised, but I reckon perhaps at least 2Mbs (don't have the numbers from any old speed tests).
In an attempt to save some money and due to no longer requiring the use of the fax machine, on Monday I arranged for BT to transfer the broadband service to the phone line. The result however has been a shock to the system and a step back 10 years... the download speed now is 0.3Mbs! Nothing else has been adjusted - filters are in the right places, no difference in the cabling etc... Productivity has been majorly affected, and there's no point in making any attempt at streaming anymore...
Should I have expected to experience this major loss of speed after the transfer? Is there anything I can do, or is this going to be an issue for the BT complaints department?

For your selected line, on the Leadselection event, you can get the contents of the line, pass the values to the node that is mapped to the component controller.
Then in the other view, you can use the same node again to get back the values.
    Mapping should be done properly.
So if the line in the table has 3 fields, all these 3 fields can be put to a node of Comp Controller.
Then this node needs to be bound both to view A and view B.
    Hope it helps...
