Transparency: shape disappear

I want to set transparency for some shapes. I do that by setting the TransparenyAppearance with the capability to write the transparency-value. If the value is different from 0.0, the hole shape geometry disappears. Does anyone know about? I tested all available transparency modes with no success. The GeometryArray is created with COLOR_3 flag, so I have no idea what's the problem...
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
I've tried the following code:
     BranchGroup              objBranch         = new BranchGroup();
     TransformGroup           objTrans          = new TransformGroup();
     ColorCube                cube              = new ColorCube(0.2);
     TransparencyAttributes   transparency      = new TransparencyAttributes( TransparencyAttributes.FASTEST, 1.0f );
     Alpha                    transparencyAlpha = new Alpha(-1, 2000);
     Appearance               tApperance        = new Appearance();
     TransparencyInterpolator tInterpolator     = new TransparencyInterpolator(transparencyAlpha, transparency, 0.0f, 1.0f );
     BoundingSphere           tbounds           = new BoundingSphere(new Point3d(0.0,0.0,0.0), 100.0);
     transparency.setCapability( TransparencyAttributes.ALLOW_VALUE_WRITE );
     tApperance.setTransparencyAttributes( transparency );
     tInterpolator.setSchedulingBounds(tbounds);
     cube.setAppearance(tApperance);
     objTrans.addChild(tInterpolator);
     objTrans.addChild(cube);
     objBranch.addChild(objTrans);and it works. As I've seen in the source code of class ColorCube, the geometry is constructed with per vertexcolor COLOR_3.
Do you use values between 1.0 and 0.0 for the value?
If so, you can try the source blend function "alpha" and the dest. blend function "one minus alpha". There is one notebook in my house, which only works well in transparency with this values.

Oliver

    Hi All
    I would like to create a vector icon with a transparent shape inside it, like in this image below:
    So everything should be transparent except of course the dark grey area...
    How Do I do that?
    Below is a link to my AI file if you want it:

    Thank you!

    With just the book icon selected, release clipping mask. Select both items, Minus Front.
    Is that what you did? What Illy version?
    this is what I get, green rectangle was placed behind to see the "hole."

  • Shapes disappear when editing anchor points (CS5)

    Hello,
    Some of my shapes simply disappear on mouse button release after moving anchor points or adjusting the bezier angle. The edit history does not mention any deletion; the event is registered as "move point" so I can "edit->undo move point" to have my shapes reappear.
    This looks like a bug to me, but I'm quite new to Flash - I may have missed something.

    Here is what they are referring to if this does not happen on everyone's then it is a common enough issue to figure out a solution but as far as I know it has always been this way, if anyone is seeing it differently we should know how they work around it so we can all benefit.
    I agree if you want to draw a shape over other objects say as a clipping mask then you should not have to have a stroke which can be one distracting and two you prevent you from seeing an important small detail that might be important.
    It might also be useful to be able to make this guide vary in width to mimic a stroke to see how it will effect the underlying art. I know why not just use the stroke and give it a color and transparency which is not the point the idea that you are creating art and you want to investigate you possibilities before driving yourself crazy selecting stroke colors and widths is the issue. It is more for the visual process and not finalized art and we are use to using the layer color to let use know what layer it is on so a color will only interfere.
    It would be good to change this behavior and get everyone's input here of how they would like to see this drawing capability improved IMO.
    I think it is a good issue to bring to the surface once again.

  • How do I create an image with a transparent shape?

    Hi
    This should be easy -
    The end result I want is this:
    a png which is mostly black (or any colour) but with a defined shape in it which is transparent.
    I have the shape. I select it. I seem to be able to make a mask from this (a selection which I can copy and move about). But what I can't figure out how
    is how to create a new image which is filled except for this masked area.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Thanks
    --Justin Wyllie

    Open a blank, new file with foreground color green
    Type text
    Open effects palette, and in the drop-down go to bevels, then select "Simple Emboss" - it is the second one in my program. Apply
    Still in he effects palette, in the drop-down, go to visibility, select "Hide". Apply
    Double click the f icon on the text layer in the layers palette to bring up the Style settings dialog, and add a small stroke to better define the letters.

  • Slide shapes disappearing

    Hello,
    I am new to using slide, and I use it on an iPad Air 2 with an invisible shield glass screen protector.  I am currently using it in the Adobe Illustrator Draw app.  Even with the glass screen protector the Ink and Slide work fine for the most part.  However, when using the slide, when I try and trace or capture the shapes they disappear, forcing me to start the process all over again.  After several attempts I have given up on using the slide altogether, and instead I am using the in-app ruler guides to render and capture shapes and lines.
    Is there some reason for the disappearing shapes when using the slide?
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Roger

    First suggestion is to delete your Preferences folder.  See tip #8 here:

    If that doesn't work then you should try reinstalling Captivate.

  • Creating transparent shapes in traced images

    Ok so I am just starting out with Illustrator and until I know how to make vectors from scratch I've been making due with the 'Image Trace' option for my logos. I do run into a problem though. If something within the image needs to be cut out to show as a transparency, just deleting the vector shape the Trace created wont give me that. The black lines I use to border my image ends up turning into a whole background shape in itself, so whatever black I delete, all the connecting black gets deleted as well. I want to know a way I can select, for instance, inside the lettering of the image below and cut out a shape to match the border around the rest of the lettering. I hope I'm making sense! I don't know any technical terms yet...The solution is probably obvious but I'm lost none-the-less. This would be a big help!

    residualhaunt,
    To continue:
    until I know how to make vectors from scratch I've been making due with the 'Image Trace' option for my logos
    You may still start by drawing things by hand, or just use something you have drawn already, and use that as a template.
    You may then scan the hand drawn artwork and place it on its own layer, locked, then recreate it (on top) by using the Pen Tool or other tools for special shapes (such as Rectangle/square, Ellipse/circle, Star, Polygon, Spiral, whatever), and you may use the Type Tool to create the text if you have the right fonts; you may edit while drawing with the tools, and you may edit/adjust afterwards.
    One way of editing underway when using the Pen Tool is to use the Spacebar: when you Click or ClickDrag (for curved path segments) and wish to adjust the position of the Anchor Point you have just made, you may Hold the Spacebar and move about (ClickHolding) until you are satisfied; if it has Handles, the Handles are freezed as long as you Hold the Spacebar. You can switch freely between adjusting the Anchor Point and adjusting the Handles by Holding/non Holding the Spacebar as many times as you like, then go on to the next Anchor Point.
    You can adjust Anchor Point positions and Handles afterwards by ClickDragging with the Direct Selection Tool (after deselecting the object if needed); you may Click the Anchor Point or an adjacent path segment to have the Anchor Point and Handles shown.
    You may also start working without a template.
    Unless you are after a hand drawn appearance, the Pen Tool gives more accurate and clean artwork than do the Pencil and Paintbrush Tools.
    To practise with the Pen Tool, in order to get the insight into its working, you may trace anything: (serif) letters, circles, ellipses, (rounded) rectangles, images.
    One thing to remember is that fewer Anchor Points (with the right Handles) give smoother shapes.

  • Custom shapes disappear from palette

    I saw an old post on this topic, but no replies...I am having the same problem so thought I would try again.
    I import custom button shapes through the shapes palette. I do not click the button for this project only. I apply the shapes too buttons in the project, then close the project. When I attempt to open the project again, DVDSP states that it cannot find the shape in the palette. References to the shape have been removed.
    Then, when I try and re-import the shape , it says The shape (shape name) already exists. Replace existing shape?
    Any ideas?

    Logan, We've not seen this happen before.  Can you double check that shapes are not being saved to another library?  (In the shape gallery, tap on the menu option at the top of the screen.  This will show you the CC libraries menu--you can select libraries or create new ones from here.  Unless you've created multiple libraries, you should only see one library there.  If you have mutiple libraries, tap on each to see if your shapes were saved there.)

  • The mouse cursor brush shape disappear after 120px.

    I choose a round brush, at 90px, the mouse cursor round brush is perfect, but as I increase the brush size, the cursor showing the round brush shape start to desintegrate as I increase the size of the brush.
    I have PS cs4 and PS cs6, in both version I have the same problem, so I'm thinking is the graphic card? but I don't know what settings to change.
    Thanks.

    Make sense, I upgraded the drivers for the GPU, and restored those other setting back how they were before and the problem is fixed.
    Of course GeForce software comes with some crap that get install in my machine, and add a bunch of icon and apps in the browser search bar, I already uninstalled, I guess Nvidia need to make some money, poor guys.

  • My Transparency has disappeared in swf?

    Hi,
    I am designing a site for a company and they want a redesign
    of the Counselling Icon (
    http://www.simpson-house.org).
    I have done this on my iMac. I have recreated the button,as before,
    with a rollover effect which includes a fade out then a fade in on
    the rollover, then the reverse on the rollout. It all works fine
    until I test the swf. I created the transparency by having the
    alpha of my graphic set to 0% on frame 1 of the MC, then motion
    tweening to alpha=100% on frame 15. Everything works apart from the
    alpha and there are no errors in the output. The code for the
    Movieclip which functions as a button is attached. For a working
    Preview please go to Simpson-House. The other icons are working
    fine on my iMac. Can anyone explain why my new icon isn't
    displaying the transparency when loaded, even though the other
    icons are?
    Many thanks.
    JG
    Simpson-House

    My best guess is that the graphic in question is text-based,
    and is in there as text.
    Text in Flash does not support transparency unless you embed
    it (or break it apart). Since this is just a logo, I would simply
    break the text apart (Ctrl+B twice, until it appears as vectors,
    without the blue text rectangle around it). The transparency would
    then work.
    Otherwise, you could click on the "Embed" button in the
    properties panel when you have the text selected, and embed the
    characters you are using.

  • Sometimes my saved shapes disappear from my library. Why?! Is there any way to get them back?

    A few times I've created shapes, named them, and tapped save, then the app goes back to my library view and the shape is not there. Are they gone forever, or can I retrieve them some other way?

  • Correct way to use transparency with shapes to avoid darker on overlap

    I am trying to draw some semi-transparent shapes (circles, rectangles, etc) in Java2D. I am using the AlphaComposite.SRC_OVER rule
    My problem is some of these shapes overlap - where they overlap, the colour appears darker. I want to avoid this effect.
    Is there a way to avoid this.

  • Shape subtraction for lines on its way?

    I've got an application in which various semi-transparent shapes of various types (rectangles, circles, and polygons) are connected to each other by lines. I want the lines to be directed towards the centers of these different shapes, but to stop at the edges. To accomplish that, I tried connecting the centers of shapes with a line, and then using Shape.subtract() in order to subtract the parts of the lines that overlap the shapes. Unfortunately, Shape.subtract() only works on fill-type shapes, and causes stroke-type shapes like lines to disappear entirely.
    I've heard that there are plans to make the shape manipulation methods work on stroke shapes in the future (namely, the last time I asked about this here: Using shape subtraction with a line but I'm wondering if there's an actual issue posted for this feature on JIRA. If there is one, could somebody point me to it so I can follow it?
    For now, I've settled with a rather hacky solution in which I use a really, really skinny filled polygon that looks like a line (and which has to be recalculated each time a shape is moved), and I do my subtraction from that.

    Just for what it's worth:
    So I click report so that I can see the details, and the whole thing goes away.
    It's probably not all that obvious - I've seen a couple of people confused by this lately - but that "report" button isn't meant to show you a report. It sends a report of the crash and any related details to Apple for their general information. As far as I know, it's not something they'll ever respond to you about, either - it's just for them to compile information about the causes of crashes, so they can work to prevent such crashes in future Mac OS development.
    Edit: Ah here's Apple's explanation of that - the "report" bit is at the bottom of the page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301084
    I notice it does say "Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." In my experience, it never does the former...

  • Problem with opaque object/text showing as semi-transparent?

    I didn't start seeing this problem till today, but the past couple of times I've gone to create a new shape layer or text layer, it appears like it's at 50% opacity.  I've checked my layer settings, and they're all at 100% fill and opacity.  I can't see any reason why they'd be semi-transparent, and none of the settings I've tried have changed anything.  I've even tried deleting the shapes/text, saving my document, and starting over.  That worked one time, but this time it's not working.
    Even applying a color overlay still results in a semi-transparent shape.
    Anyone else have a similar issue and know how to fix it?  I am in the middle of doing a design for a client, for print, and I really can't be dealing with this right now.

    I ended up just deleting the group that was affected, saving it as a new file, and then rebuilding the new group from the new file. For some reason that worked.  I am not currently have the problem, so I can't show you what was happening, but I'll definitely look at these steps if it happens again.
    Thanks!

  • Overprint / Transparency Question

    Hi, all. I'm working on a logo which will need to be separated for 2-color offset printing.  To produce shading effects, I've created a solid black shape to which I've applied a black/white gradient as an opacity mask.  I've set this piece over an identical shape filled with a PMS blue.  The idea is to overprint the black ink as a solid-to-transparent gradient over the blue solid to produce the shading.  When I set the black gradient to "Overprint Fill" and view the logo in "Overprint Preview" the result looks great on screen.  The design also features a hard bevel, the dark edges of which are produced by placing semi-transparent shapes filled with black and also set to "Overprint Fill".
    However, when I go to save the file I'm presented with a warning about how using spot colors with transparency can "generate unexpected results".  In the save dialog box there is also a message that says "Overprints will not be preserved in areas that interact with transparency".  What does all of this mean for my poor little logo when it goes to press?
    Here's an example of what I'm trying to achieve.  The highlight is a simple gradient from white into the blue, but the shading is performed as outlined above.  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    The way I understand it is he is using a Black gradient over Blue.  The White can be White, but in this case, probably 0% Black will work.  The Opacity Mask is probably considered "Transparent" along with the Black bevel elements, hence the warnings.  I wonder if those elements can be left without transparency and set to "Overprint Fill".  For instance, a 30% Black on a single bevel element could be set to O.P. with no transparency settings.  There will be no screen view of the effect, but it will separate as a 30% Black overprint.  Same with the gradient.  It will not preview with the effect, but will separate as a Black gradient set to overprint ( no Opacity Mask necessary ).  Or, keep everything the same except apply "Multiply" in the transparency setting ( along with Overprint Fill in the Attributes dialog ).  This gives you the preview of the effect, but the nagging warnings.
