TREX Nameserver Problems!

Hi All
I am having a problem with my TREX Namserver on one of my portals.
In the TREX Monitor - Service Status i have a message:  <b>The name server is not running or no name server is configured in TREX Service Properties. Start J2EE Admin to change the properties.</b>
When I try and start the TREX Administrator i get this message: <b>No connection to NameServer <PORTALTST:30201></b>
I have set the Nameserver in the J2EE (go.bat)
Can anyone help! (BTW it is a new installation EP6 SP15)
Thanks in Advance!!

hi,
The problem may be because
1. You might have wrongly specified the name server address or the system name of the trex server itself in the trex services. also check if you have saved it and stop and start the trex service in the visual admin.
2. Your trex instance might be stopped. Go to services in control panel and try starting it.
Hope it helps...

  • TREX NameServer exits with code 128 on system start

Installed a new TREX server on Windows 2003 x64 server, using standard settings for a stand-alone TREX server.  Installed as Local (not domain) and install completed successfully.  After the install (or after any reboot), all the regular TREX services start up correctly except for TREXNameServer.exe.

If I log into the server as <sid>adm, run TREXConsole and then start TREXNameServer, it starts up fine and works without a problem.  However, that doesn't start the Name Server as a service, preventing the unattended operation that one would hope for.
Has anyone encountered this before?  I've searched all over, but have not located anything that is not allowing the Name Server to start.  I would appreciate any suggestions to help track down this problem.  Thanks.

    Hi Jones,
It turns out my issue was related to security on the Windows drive in question.  I installed the TREX main directory on the E drive of the server and simply added the "Users" group to that drive to fix my problem.  I'm pretty sure that the service user SAPService<SID> was having access permission issues until I added the group to the security settings of the drive.

  • TREX: indexing problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure TREX in our portal. I've created an index (search index) and I've assigned data to index (html files and pdf files).
When I test the indexing process in the TREX Monitor, I always see that some pdf files aren't indexed. I assign them to index again and again, but they aren't indexed. I get "Preparation Failed" for these documents and the indexing process doesn't continue (it seems that it stops).
What can it be the cause?
    Thanks in advance,
    Samantha.

    Hi,
There is no need to create new repository. You can add that folder as "Data Source" to Index. Then all files and folders under that folder will automatically indexed.
    Please follow the below steps.
    1. Create a new Index.
    2. Add folder (Whatever you created) as "Data Source" to index.
    3. Save data source.
Now you can get all your documents indexed.
Here note one points. You will not get all the documents indexed immidiately. This will depend on your TREX load.
Other wise if you want it immediately flush the particular index.
    1. Logon to portal as Administrator
    2. Navigate to 'System Administrator' -> Monitoring -> Knowledge Management -> Cache Monitor
    3. Note the System ID of you local system from combo box under System ID
    4. Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Global Service -> System Landscape Definations -> Systems -> Content Management System
    5. Check that the same System ID Should be there. If not there please add it by clicking on button 'New'
    6. Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Global Service ->Scheduler Tasks -> Index Management Task Queue Reader
    7. Open "IndexServiceTaskQueueReader" for editing
    8. Add the same system ID under "System ID"
I think this will solve your problem

  • Portal & TREX Performance problems!

    Hi All
I am having an issue with a portal we have just implemented, in terms of performance and TREX processes.
It appears TREXIndexServer.exe consumes a large amount of processor resource and causes the portal to stop working. When the process is killed off everything goes back to normal!
Can anyone help me fix this?
    Thanks
    Phil

We currently only have 7 indexes running on the portal and they run twice a day once at 8.00am and 12:30pm indexing and classifying a total of around 300 documents. These are all stored in the database!
The Server its self is quite high spec and should not have a problem.
It seems that the TREX engine !
    Hope this helps!

  • TREX installation problems

    I have EP 6.0.2.4.7 on MSS 8.0, J2EE pl 22
The Portal is up. I tried to install TREX on the same server. However I had not installed the IIS before I started. I got an error during the TREX install about creating a site in IIS. So I decided to uninstall TREX cleanly and re-install after I got my ISS up. That way I hoped it would create the site this time.
However I guess the Control panel - Add remove programs does not uninstall TREX cleanly. Because I tried to un-install / re-install and this time it was not showing the TREX services as originally. One more pass at the same, and now I have errors during installation.
My question is, how can I remove all traces of TREX from this box ( while not touching the portal, J2EE, MSSQL etc.), so that I can start again just as if it was the first time......
    Regards, Sanket

Clear out all of your temp folders. TREX installation stores some information in the temp folders to be re-used. I've ran into the same problem and noticed that when i reinstalled with the same user my previous settings were remembered, but when I installed with a other user I could select the options again......

  • Trex preprocessor problems

    Hi
I have tried to get our TREX server to index some documents on our portal. Yesterday I sucseeded in this and indexed a document. Today I only get a preprocessor error 6404 and the indexing don't work anymore.

    Hi!
I have solved the problem, I got the 6401 error due to the wrong URL.
I found the URL in the trace in the TREX admin tool and I copied it to the web browser on the server where I run the TREX server. When I did this I got the error 401 in the web browser. I then tested to add the port number to the URL and then I could access the file.
I went to the URL generator in the portal and added the port number and then I could index the documents.

    Hi
i think the trex services in os is not started.
    Please do the following:
    1. Restart the TREX Service from the OS. In Windows go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Look for TREX Instance XX
    2. Check if the system process TREXIndexServer(.exe) runs. In Windows just open the Taskmanager and look for the process.
    3. Go to the TREX log folder "\usr\sap\trex_61\trace". Check for errors in the file TrexIndexServer.XXXXX.XXX.trc

  • E-recruiting TREX search problem

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a problem when searching from e-recruiting. Everything appears to be set up ok. Documents are being correctly indexed and all RFC connections are ok. Job RCF_PERIODICAL_SERVICES runs successfully.
When I do a test search from SKPR07 it only returns results if a space is entered between each letter of the search word. For example, if I search for the word 'skill' I get no results found but if I enter 's k i l l' it does return results.
A bigger problem is that no search results are returned from the user interface both for the external candidate and the internal recruiter.
As I say everything is being indexed correctly and I get successful results when performing a test search and a test index from the index category tab of the Search Server relation Monitor (transaction srmo).
Has anyone encountered this before or have any suggestions as to how this can be resolved?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim

I got a response from OSS on this so it is now resolved.

  • TREX problem: Rapid Installer 2.0

First I try to install EP 6.0 SR1 with Rapid Installer 2.0, I got an trex error in the installation. In this forum (read by Nicky Gromeleit) I got the information that installing TREX in rapid installation is not possible so I try again the following steps:
    1) Install only EP platform succesfully
    2) Install TREX manually succesfully
    3) I have configured IIS 6.0 for TREX
    4) After entering the name server adress in the SAP J2EE Engine Adminisatrator Tool I got only com.sapportals.wdf.WdfErrors in the TREX monitor, although the adress and port is correct. I use the url which you can see in "settings/ Landscape Overview" after starting trexgui.exe.
Did I forget something or must I change something else?
    Regards,
    Frank

    Hi Frank,
I had the same problem in the rapidinstallation, but the installation of Trex manualy works fine. I used the port, witch you can find opening 'Drive:\usr\sap\TREX_<Instance>\sapprofile.ini' at line 'TREX/NameServer/Port'
In the Visual Administrator "-> Server 0 -> Services -> TREX Service" I changed the
Parameter 'nameserver.address' in my case to 'tcpip://localhost:port'
Nothing else is to do. So I did nearly the same as you, but maybe the port differs.
    Greetings,
    Axel

    Hi Vipul
Trex is a search engine that you need to install and also need to register trex with portal to search KM documents from portal.
To register TREX hosts with the Portal, you have to first locate the name server and port of the TREX Installation. This is located in sapmsg.ini. You have to then set up the TREX name server in the J2EE Engine with the Visual Administrator.
To locate the name server and port
.Log on to the server as an Administrator .
.Navigate to the installation folder of TREX (that is C:\usr\sap\trex_00).
.Double-click sapprofile.ini to open the file in Notepad.
.Make a note of the port number. The default is 30001.
.You will need to enter this port number to the J2EE Visual Administrator in a later step.
    Trex/Nameserver/Port=30001
To set up the TREX name server in the J2EE Engine
.Open Windows Explorer in the server.
.Navigate to J2EE Admin installation directory (that is C:\usr\sapSID\JC##\j2ee\admin).
.Double-click go.bat to start the J2EE Visual Administrator.
    .Log on to  Visual Administrator.
.Choose Global Configuration u00E0 Services u00E0 TREX Service.
    .Select the nameserver.address properties field.
.Enter the server name of the TREX instance and the port number.
    Choose Update.
    Choose Save
.Select yes to restart the TREX Service.
To exit the J2EE Visual Administrator, choose Close u00E0 Exit.
Check the connection to the Enterprise Portal
Log on to the Enterprise Portal with super-administrator permissions.
Choose System Administration u00E0 Monitoring u00E0 Knowledge Management u00E0 TREX Monitor u00E0 Server Status.
You should see the status of the HTTP Server, Name Server, Queue Server, and Index Server is Available.
For Connecting TREX to Remote System
u00B7  The TREX admin tool and the remote system have the same TREX release.
u00B7  The TREX admin tool can reach the remote system via the network.
u00B7  You know the user name and password for the remote system.
    Refer for complete detail;;

  • TREX Shared memory not initialized

    Hi,
we have installed TREX 7.0 on windows and there is some problem after installation. when we try to start the admin tool with "TREXAdmin.bat" we are getting a mesg like "shared memory not initialized. retry in 5 sec ...disabling shared memory"
and after few seconds in the same cmd console, we are getting "TREX-nameserver <hostname>:34001 not responding after 1 retries. giving up.".
feel that the nameserver has some communication problem. can someone please suggest any solution for this ?
      Thanks
       Sourav

I had the same error and solved it. Here is what I found out:
the message "shared memory not initialized. retry in 5 sec" is a symptom for a faulty nameserver start
look at the nameserver traces. If you cannot find anything, increase the trace level to 5. In case of HANA the trace level is called saptracelevel in /hana/shared/SID/exe/linuxx86_64/hdb/config/global.ini
in case of HANA hdbdaemon starts hdbnameserver. You can find this info in hdbdaemon's traces at tracelevel 5.
In my case the hdbnameserver could not start because the system was set to be a secondary site with System Replication and it could not communicate with the primary site. The reason was that jumbo frames were enabled on the primary and secondary site, but not on the switches between. So the work-around was to set MTU to 1500 on both sites.
