Trouble Dubbing

Okay, I am just so incredibly frustrated right now. I have tried everything to try and import my accidentally recorded LP mode tapes into FCP. It recognizes the camera but it won't log and capture. Most of the time, I get the error message, "This operation could not be completed as there is no video." Other times, it will try to log and capture but I get a giant log and capture screen of extremely pixelized pink and green squares. It's not my firewire cable and or anything else, so I've come to determine that it's because it's been recorded in LP mode. SO, to get around that, I tried dubbing the tapes to SP mode using two different kinds of miniDV cameras. However, when I connect them via firewire, I can't get the source camera to play on the new camera. I'll put the source camera in VCR mode and then the new camera in record mode, and I'll get the video feed from the new camera into the source camera instead of getting tape feed from the source camera into the new camera. Any suggestions??? On any part of this???? I need help! And I'm losing my mind. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Oh and also, I tried importing into iMovie but it does the same pixely green and pink thing when I try to import.

Dubbing trouble

OK, here is a test that I have just tried on my DVR620KU. Please do the same steps and report your findings.
1. Have a recordable VHS tape (with record tab intact) and a recordable DVD (such as DVD-R).
2. Press INPUT SELECT on the remote multiple times until you see L2 appear on the TV screen. Be sure you have nothing connected to L2 (which are the connectors in the front of the unit). You should see a blue screen.
3. Press VCR on the remote.
4. Insert the VHS tape. Most preferably you should be at the beginning of the tape, but it's not necessary. You should see the counter set to 0:00:00.
5. Now press the REC button on the remote. The VCR component should start recording and you should see the counter start incrementing as 00:00:01, etc. Let it record for around 3 minutes.
6. Press STOP on the remote. Then press REV and let the tape rewind to the beginning of the recording where the counter is at 0:00:00. Then press STOP.
7. Press DVD on the remote.
8. Insert the DVD into the DVD tray and wait until it is fully loaded and the progress bar goes away on the TV screen.
9. Press DUBBING on the remote. You should see the VHS tape start to play back, and the DVD start recording. You will see a black screen. Let it record onto DVD for around 3 minutes. Then press STOP. Let it finish processing until the progress bar goes away. Then press TOP MENU and navigate to the last thumbnail, then press ENTER. You should start seeing a black screen for playback.
If all of these steps go properly, then the DVR620KU is working properly.

Trouble setting up wireless cameras with airport extreme

I am trying to set up my alarm dot com wireless cameras and am having trouble getting them to connect to my Airport Extreme. With my prior D-Link router, there was no issue, but since upgrading to the Extreme, I can get them to locate the network, but not connect.

Add me to the list of people with Netgear DM111P ADSL modem and AEBS(n)...I can connect fine to the internet directly from MB Pro to modem, and for the last couple months have used the Netgear with my trusty AEX, no problem.
Now I finally get my AEBS from Canada (here in Dubai, UAE) and I have wasted hours trying to get on the internet with the AEBS. I have it configured exactly the same as the AEX is! One works fine, the other not at all. Exasperating.
I am using the Netgear with PPPoA Bridging (the correct setting for the ISP here and what works with the AEX and direct connection). The AEBS shows it is getting the IP correctly and has a solid green light. My MB Pro shows it is getting an IP from the AEBS's DHCP server. And shows entries for the DNS servers.
Yet..no internet. From the number of complaints with this exact same setup...it ain't me...I have used and configured over a dozen routers and modems from all major manufacturers, used DSL/ADSL/cable, PPPoe, PPPoA, etc etc...and I'm stumped.
This is NOT a typical Mac product. I am not happy. If someone figures this out, you will have my admiration.

Capturing "troubled" data

I have a mini dv tape that I filmed unknowingly with dirty video heads so the picture is sometimes mosaiced and sound falls out etc. But I think I can still work with it and would like to capture it into final cut. But every time I try, as soon as the picture screws up, final cut aborts the capture and an error message comes up saying that there was trouble reading the data from the source tape.
Does anyone know If and how I can bypass this and capture the tape, flaws and all?
or is final cut just literally not able to capture this marred material?

To expand on a previous suggestion...
You can try dubbing the bad tape to a clean new tape by doing a digital transfer between camcorder and deck or two camcorders - whatever resources you have for doing a digital dub from your camcorder.
BUT FIRST... run the new blank tape through the recorder you will be recording on to and record time code and black on the tape.
Just put the tape in the recorder, (burnish it first if it is a new tape by running it all the way to the end FF and then back to beginning REW), hit record, and let it run to the end.
Having an existing Time Code on a destination tape for a digital dub can help get past rough spots.
If this doesn't work, I agree that you need to do an analog "capture now" through an A to D converter with a TBC.
But try making the digital dub first. Oh yes, if your recording deck has an option about "preserving original time code" then disable it. Tell it to use the time code already on the tape, or to just write a new one. That's how you will get around the crinkled time code on the original tape.
This could cause trouble if you had already captured the tape into an FCP project and needed to reconnect - the time codes wouldn't match. but you don't care about that because you are bringing in this program material for the first time, as I read your post.

Capture Error Message: Tape Trouble--Check VTR

On certain sections of different Digital Betacam source tapes (via SDI and RS422 deck control--Sony J-30 deck @ DVC Pro 50 resolution) I get the following error message:
"Tape trouble--check VTR. Do no attempt to eject tape or use transport without checking VTR first."
The tape keeps running with this message up on the screen but the drive has stopped capturing. There are no timecode skip warnings and no other indications. Was wondering if this message is generated by Kona (will check with AJA on Monday) or FCP? I have successfully captured other sections from the same tape. Tape dub stock is brand new.
Perhaps the warning is correct and some anomally is being detected on the tape at only certain capture points on the same tape. There are no error messages on the deck display which tells me the deck & tape are actually ok. These pro decks are pretty good at letting you know if there's a tape slack, tape moisture or control track problem. But has anyone else experienced this and have knowledge about it?

Sounds like the VCR is sending false signals, or they are true, and you just don't see the problem when the deck sends the message to FCP.... I'd be prone to start trouble shooting this by resetting all the parameters of the playback machine in it's on screen menu etc... I'd suppose too that if there is the slightest error being detected, the deck will kick out the capture process. So might need to have the deck sent to maintenance.

Trouble capturing problematic mini dv cassette

I have received a panasonic super mini dv in the mail that i need to capture in final cut pro for a project.
When i play the tape on my deck the image is boxy. the deck has trouble reading it...it shows an image but blurry and it looks almost like boxes are all within the image...I tried to play it on my canon xl2, but the same thing happened. i normally use panasonic mini dvs with no problem...but they are not super mini dvs...is this the problem? or is the tape just damaged? or am i do something else wrong?

No, no need to push the PMU button... I'd only do this if it was every tape...
The dub might help... it's just a matter of having a deck/camera to play back the original, then set another deck/camera to record it in the SP mode. If it is the LP mode this will help... I'd suggest you get the same camera that shot the tape if you can for the source machine.
If it was recorded in Israel, it's likely a PAL recording. try capturing it as PAL. I'd see if I can make a dub somewhere...?

Well, that's basically how it worked for the past few months. But if renting a movie is all a hacker want's to do there's a whole lot of easier opportunities for them on the web.
This means my credit card (hence me) needs to be around whenever a movie is rented.

Mini-Dvi-to-Video trouble

I just bought a mini-dvi-to-video adapter so I could use my TV as a display. More specifically, so I could use my VCR to record what's on my Mac's display. I also bought a headphone-to-composite cable adapter. I'm using a double-headed (is that one male or female? It's male, isn't it?) composite cable from the video adapter to the VCR. The problem is, it doesn't show up. The sound plays (and records) fine, but the video neither shows up on the TV screen nor records onto the tape. What's the problem? Both adapters are Dynex, my computer's a Late 2006 iMac (I think), the cable is WireLogic, and both the VCR and TV are Sony. Please help, thanks.

So if you eliminate the double headed splitter and plug straight into the TV, does the video still not show up?
FYI, there have been reports in the past of trouble with the Dynex video adapter. You may need to purchase the Apple OEM one. The Dynex may lack having a ROM inside of it with a proper EDID in the ROM. This is crucial to the Mac.

Trouble Using Apple's Video Adapter

I am having trouble getting my eMac to work with the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter. There are no directions telling you how to use it or to even get it to work. I want to use it to import videos from my Sony Hi8 camcorder and was told by Apple's Live help that this is what I needed to import video and make DVDs. How do I get this adapter to work?

I think the adapter you have is for video output, not input. To input video to the eMac you need a firewire connection. Sony cameras typically have a 4 wire connector which is smaller than the 6 wire plug on the mac, so you need a cable that has a 4 wire connector on one end and a 6 wire connector on the other. Cameras often (but not always) come with such a cable. You also need a digital camcorder- not just Hi8., although Sony does make cameras that will do both. If you camera does not have digital output, you need a convertor box.

I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
          DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

I had a 1 TB Drive that was connected as a back up, but it is no longer recognized by the mac. How may I trouble shoot to reconnect?

I have been having a lot of trouble with the latest itunes update and my ipod classic 80Gb i.e. being unable to sync songs, but now i have no files at all on my ipod, it is completely blank when i view it from my computer. I need help, please, anybody.

As it says above, i have been having a lot f trouble with my ipod classic and the latest itunes update, i was unable to sync songs or anything to it and have tried every conceivable 'fix' i could find. i have run an itunes diagnostic and the results are posted below. a major problem is that when i try and view my ipod through my computer it displays nothing at all on the ipod, no files or anything, this may be the problem but i have no idea how it has happened or how i could resolve it.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.
