Trouble Importing 12-Bit Audio

I'm importing 12-bit audio from a Sony DCR-HC21, and Final Cut Pro HD has warned me that my audio will be out of synch because of a difference between the audio quality on the tape and the quality (16 bit) that I'm digitizing it at. I've been trying to change my audio catpure preset, but can't find a way to capture it at 12 bits. I've been checking around the discussion forums, and have seen that others have had the same problem, but couldn't find a solution anywhere...
Does anyone have any tips?

You can create your own custom capture presets.

  • Importing 24 bit audio into FCE

I have a project that calls for impeccable audio quality. The client has supplied me with 24 bit aiff files.
The files import easily and when placed in the a 1080i60 timeline show no sign of needing a render.
Does this mean that I will retain the 24 bit quality all the way through to authoring of the DVD in iDVD?
I can find little or no information about this particular question in the manuals of the discussions. Thanks in advance.
    Mike Pulcinella

    Hi
iDVD gives in it's help file 48 kHz (16-bit as I get it)
    nothing about 24-bit 96kHz
    So me = doubtful
DVD Studio Pro most certainly handles it.
    from Toast™ Document/Manual
    +Toast encodes PCM at 48 kHz / 16-bit or 48 kHz / 24-bit levels, which+
+are higher than standard CD quality, and exceed the level of most+
+songs in iTunes library. Audio that has been recorded at 96 kHz /+
+24 bit is downsampled automatically unless you choose the 96 kHz /+
+24 bit option, which maintains the higher quality but significantly+
    +reduces disc space.+
Very informative from Roxio - I think

  • Trouble importing 32-bit TIFF

I have files from another application that are 1 megapixel with 32bit/pixel depth. Photoshop says the bit depth is unsupported when it tries to read it, but I know the program can work with 32bit/pixel images. I want to be sure I don't lose data on the way in, so converting to 16 bit is not an options. I'm running CS4 extended on Max OSX 10.6.4 with 4GB ram.

Thanks for the reply. I should have specified that the images are monochrome (1 channel) with 32 bits per pixel, as I believe you'd have in an HDR image. The bitdepth parameter on the TIFF (read with another program, Mathematica) confirms that it is 32bit/pixel. The images are captured from a 16bit monochrome camera made by Princeton Instruments (PIXIS) and are accumulated over 10 images using their WinSpec program, which results in something larger than 16bits, so they use 32.
From looking at the Adobe PS documentation, I see that it supports working with 32bit/pixel HDR images, and can at least write 32bit tiffs. Maybe it doesn't read them 32bit tiffs at all, or maybe the program that is writing the files doesn't format the files in a way that PS can read them.

  • How do I bring in 16 bit audio?

Having trouble importing 16 bit audio into imovie 11. Also, shot 16X9 and video imports as 4X3. Any answers?

    Hello Amanda,
Correct me If I am wrong in understanding your question, based on the information you have provided I am assuming the requirement is to be able to filter on the field CharX which is an attribute of 0MATERIAL to be made available for reporting in terms of being able to filter on.
In order to do this, please go into the transaction code RSD1 and then go over into the Attributes tab.
Once in the attributes tab you can click Detail/Navigation attribute to see what is the variable type. If you cannot see that button then it means you are already in the right screen.
Make sure you are in edit or maintain mode and you should be able to see the value "DIS" or "NAV" for every attribute.
Make sure you change the value of the CharX attribute to NAV.
Once this has been done, please go over into the DSO and turn the check mark on for the Material attribute or make sure its checked on and once activated you should be able to see the CharX available for drilling down and filtering within the query definition.
Also, if the same has to be done when using MultiProvider make sure you turn it on in the InfoCube and the MultiProvider and proper identification is maintained.
If you want to use the attribute of CharX then CharX should be available at the DSO level or the InfoProvider level.
Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need additional information.
    Thanks
    Dharma.

  • Trouble Importing Files PSE 7 to Windows 7 (32 bit)

I am attempting to install PSE 7 into a computer running Windows 7, 32 bit.
The installation was a success to the extent that I was able to connect a catalog containing a huge amount of photos, (180,000 +) to the organizer, and after several hours of "generating thumbnails" the installation seemed to have stabilized.
However, when I try to import new photos, the "get photos from files and folders" operation takes ridiculous amounts of time, and is sort of "hit or miss" in that it sometimes it hangs altogether and I have to use "task manager" to shut down PSE.
Other than this, the program seems to be working normally (!) or maybe (?)
I have tried various compatibility modes, (XP SP2, Vista, Vista SP 1 & 2) with very little difference in results. Well, maybe Vista SP 2 was a tiny bit better.
The computer this is installed in is a Pentium C2D 2.8Ghz (E6300) w/ 2 GB of DDR2 800Mhz RAM. So, it's got plenty of "juice" to deal with PSE's requirements.
My photo files are stored in folders & sub-folders on a separate internal HDD (750GB WD).
Both PSE 5 and 7 work on 3 other computers containing the identical catalogs and photos, in basically the same configuration, including separate storage drives for each. These machines are running Windows XP SPs 2 or 3 (I use multiple computers as a back up strategy, copying the entire existing HDD to another, then install the drive into another machine, import the catalog file into PSE, and change the HDD letter to match that of the existing catalog). Done this way, the PSE installation is identical to that in the previous machine, and is up and running rapidly.
launching such  a large catalog takes a bit of time to initialize, or search (understandably), but on these other machines there is no trouble importing, locating, or managing files.
I should add that on the Windows 7 machine, Windows Explorer works quite well in accessing all of the photo files, so this sort of rules out a problematic Hard drive.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Ellis, PSE 7 is simply not permitting me to drag folders from Windows Explorer into the organizer. It just blows up the dreaded "black circle with diagonal slash", and that's the end of the issue, at least as far as PSE 7 is concerned.
Since I've had to terminate this program abnormally several times, it resets the preferences upon restart. The other day it hung when I was trying to set preferences, so as you might expect, I'm very cautious about making changes. I don't know if changing any preferences would enable drag and drop, I'm just trying to illuminate the eggshells I'm walking in trying to stabilize the program.
In answer to your question, about the "documents and settings folder", no, I'm not using in any of my photo file paths. I realize I may have confused the issue with that statement, it was out of context. But my purpose in doing so was to obviate the differences in file paths that PSE is expecting, and the file paths that I'm using. Perhaps that was a bad example.
I almost never use either the "My Documents" or the My Pictures" folders in Windows, nor do I allow PSE to use them. Storing data of any kind on the OS drive (C:/) is not in my repertoire of "stupid things I like to do, even if they're destined to end badly".
All of my computers have a minimum of 2 physical HDDs, not partitions. All video, music, photos, program installer files, etc. are stored on a discreet, separate, HDDs, (identified in "My Computer" as, (IE) " G: Volume")). The "C:/" drives are exclusively for Windows and installed programs.
That said, a typical file path to a group of photos in my computer would be, "My Computer" > "G:/ Volume" > "My Digital Photos" > "Airshows" > "McGuire AFB 2007" (In case you're wondering, I'm way too lazy to go through that each time, so I add desktop shortcuts to the extra HDDs and even the largest folders).
As you are well aware, that is completely different from the file path that PSE would choose by default. A file path for which I have a great deal of disdain. But, that is another complicated and contentious issue, which doesn't have a clear winner thus far.
Anyhoo, I think that PSE would "appear" more compatible (and probably is )with Windows 7 if it were allowed to follow it's own choices as to where to store the photo files. One supposes the folders that Windows 7 "creates" for earlier programs further aids (supposed) compatibility.
As I mentioned in one of my other somewhat long winded posts, I now have a viable option for importing photos, "find photos by searching", the manual drill down modus operandi. Works great!
I'm not expecting this installation of PSE to do any, "heavy lifting" with respect to editing, or a resting place for un-backed up photos . It's in a new machine I just built for the primary purpose of, extra backup,  recording TV, and perhaps installing a Bluray drive. The motherboard has HDMI output, so it plugs into the TV directly, and the PSE slideshow function works perfectly.  With a 40" TV, it's even better than a slide projector for boring relatives with vacation photos!
So, although this thread is still marked as "unanswered", I do have a workaround solution. There should be a check box indicating, "it won't ever be answered until Adobe issues a patch"! (Like that's going to happen).
Again Mr. Ellis, thank you very much for your interest in this issue. I might add that I have read your page on problems with PSE and it's obvious that you have applied a great deal of thought, effort, experience, and industry toward helping people deal with PSE more effectively.
As an afterthought I have several copies of PSE laying around, 2,3,5, & 7, (some in multiples) and I've never had a serious problem with any of them. So I'm actually astounded when I see the litany of issues that apparently manifest themselves. This is my first actual issue, and Windows 7 is pretty upfront about PSE 7 being an incompatible application.

  • Trouble Importing Audio

When importing a an audio track in the form of a QT Movie, the track previews fine, When I drag it to the timeline, sync and render it ends up with glitches and drop-outs.
    Any help is appreciated.

What format is the audio you're importing? Does it match your FCP Sequence settings? Typically this will be 48khz, 16 bit AIFF format.

I have an older Sony digital camcorder, and I am having trouble importing the movie files. Sometimes I get the audio in iTunes without the picture. I have a Pinnacle Dazzle interface. What am I doing wrong. Is there a way to skip the dazzle device?

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
    Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian.  Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

  • Troubles importing and linking media in CS5.5

I am using CS5.5 and having trouble importing media. Importing .mpg or .VOB files (~30mins length, 1GB size) and both cause Prem to hang and not respond. I can leave it for half an hour and still no progress. However, when using a different computer, no troubles.
This is a clean install of CS5.5. Have cleared media cache.
    Anyone help?

  • Trouble Importing Frames into AC CS4 9.02.42

    Good afternoon,
I am having trouble importing the frames for a project into AE CS4, and it seems to be an issue with After Effects remembering a previous attempt and importing these files.
The first time I tried ti import this project, I hadn't realized that the initially copy of the data from the external drive to my project drive ( internal SATA 1 TB drive) had gotten corrupted becuase Soundbooth had locked up and I had to hard shut down the system while the copy was processing ( lesson learned, never try and start editing Audio on a project while the video frames are still copying to the drive) and AE opened all the files on the drive and then generated an error because the last frames were corrupt.  I deleted the folder on the project drive and recopied the project over from the external drive and let it finish before I tried anything on the system.  I have verified all the frames are intact now on the project drive, I have used Purge All on AE, but when ever I try to import the files into AE, it still stops at frame 32767 and doesnt load the rest of the video.  I need to be able to load all 53813 frames so I can work on this project.  I even renamed the prefix on the files and attempted to load them again, and still it stops at frame 32767.
Is there a way I am missing to completely purge any history lists, temp files, etc, with Adobe Premiere CS4 and AfterEffects CS4 ?
I can import a 79 GB uncompressed AVI just fine no issues, so I know it is not a system resources problem, I am on Vista 64 with 8 gb of RAM and loads of free hard drive space.
Does anyone have anyideas how to resolve this and what I can do to fix AE so it will import this entire project?  I still have to import the second have of the project too which is another half hour worth of frames.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

I wonder if the 64 bit version of AfterEffects CS5 will remove that limitation?
Why should it? You are confusing things here (no offense). This has nothing to do with how much memory AE can handle or any of that, it's good old 16bit integer code that handles the numbering calculations. This is certainly an issue just as deep as the memory handling itself and bound to cause a ton of compatibility problems with older versions, so any change on that end will have to be weighed carefully before changing it. I wouldn't keep my hopes up for any soon-ish action on that end, as certainly it is not the highest priority for 99% of users that only ever handle short sequences...

  • 12 bit audio

Hey, I've been given 5 hours of recorded video all with 12bit audio. When I bring it into iMovie it crackles and jumps horribly. I don't seem to be able to set the ausio import rate. Any ideas?
    THanks.
    M.
ps I can bring in in through Toast and then export as dv and then bring it into iMovie. All comes in as one clip. Tedious and long!
    Help

Lennart, I have about 400 weddings shot on DV tape shot at 12 bit audio over the past 7 years or so. They are all on external hard drives as iMovie 2.1.2 projects. Most of them ( 90% are over 2 hours long ).That was fine when most had to be on VHS tape. No problem. Now most want a DVD with chapters. Big Problem. The iMovie 2.1.2 does not integrate with iDVD so I decided to try and make a full quality QT and import that into iMovie 6 and go from there. No luck, audio was out of synch. I opened the original iMovie 2.1.2 with iMovie 6 and could not read many transitions ( Gee Three ones and others). Now I was in really big trouble. I was looking at re-editing entire projects in iM6. Did one last week and it was 2 hours and 23 minutes long. Took me a whole day to edit. Brought it into iDVD and was told that the content was too long. I got a double layer burner and that is when the Big Wait began. I exported to disc image and took a full day to do that. IDVD hangs at the very end when it encodes audio. Been told to convert the mp3 audio songs to aiff. Did that and no improvement at encoding time. I was under the impression that it would take about 4 hours or less to encode my movie using a dual processor 2.7ghz tower with 8 gigs of ram. My question is how can I take most of those iM2 projects and make DVD's with chapters without re-editing them? I know I must use a later version of iM2 to add chapters but how can I do that without losing any transitions? I posted this question in the iDVD forums but since it also involves iMovie I thought I would give that a try. Thanks Lennart.

  • Why am I having trouble importing vCards? I follow the Help Center instructions by dragging and dropping, but some don't sync into the cloud. And why can't I drag multiple vCards? I have over 4,000. Please tell me I don't have to do one at a time?

Mostly because you are not using any capital letters or paragraph returns and your post is difficult to read.

  • How do I get the most of my 24 bit audio?

We recently shot a project where all our audio was sent to digital recorders at 24 bit, 48k... when I import the files to Premiere there doesn't seem to be any issues, but I can't find settings when creating a new sequence that allows for 24 bit audio (just 12 and 16 bit). If anyone could help me understand the following I would greatly appreciate it:
    1. Are there settings for using 24 bit audio in a sequence? If so, where?
    2. If there are no 24 bit settings, does that mean my project refers to the original high quality file even though the sequence is set at 16 bit? Or is my 24 bit audio being modified to 16 bit when I drop it into the sequence?
    3. I guess the main question is: is it worth it for me to use 24 bit audio in my Premiere projects?
    Thank you for the help.
    Avery

    Hi,
When working with *24bits in a *32 bits floating-point internal environment you have *8 extra bits (these are *wordlengths and have nothing to do with the sample frequency as stated above!) and gives you virtually a endless headroom ( even above 0 db on individual channels).
But at the end (after the master and out of your soundcard that is ***16 or 24 bits) the wordlength gets changed (shortened from 32 to 24 or *** 16 bits)  and the sample frequency sampled down eventually as well,  the master output has to stay a *little under 0 db *depending of the type of sound.
To answer your question: "It makes perfect sense to work with larger wordlenghts, because no matter you go down to 16 bits at the end, you have a much better sound quality and bigger headroom during mixing and at the end even when it's downsized  to 16 bits."
    ***16 bits in Premiere Pro

  • 32 bit audio unit bridge unexpectingly quits

I've just updated to Snow Leopard and I've been using Melodyne to fix vocals. When I used Melodyne on the first 3 vocals, everything in Logic was functioning fine but when I try to import the last vocal track into Melodyne, the 32 bit audio unit bridge unexpectingly quits. I've tried quiting and re-opening Logic and the same problem happens at the same spot. On the previous 3 vocal tracks that I fixed with Melodyne, I have already bounced those tracks in place and have got rid of the old tracks. So, the Melodyne plug in is only open on the last vocal track. It seems strange that my Melodyne plug in was working fine with the 32 bit audio unit bridge (as are all of my plug ins) until now.
    Any advice anyone?

If you are running Logic in 64-bit mode with a variety of plugins, you're going to have to realise that things probably won't be stable until updates get released.
The AU bridge is a workaround for the transition period, and one that many third-party developers haven't had much of an opportunity to test with their products, so you may well get funky behaviour in certain things.
If you're really stuck, go back to 32-bit mode for your edits, and it's worth contacting the developer of your plugins to see what they say about AU Bridge and 64-bit compatibility.

  • 12 v 16 bit audio in same project

Despite my yelling and screaming, a couple of shooters I used for a recent project set their audio to 12 bit instead of the 16 bit I wanted.
What do I do when it comes to importing the material and then trying to use it in a project where 90% is 16 bit?
And BTW, I had the offenders killed.

resample the 12 bit audio to 16 bit audio and use those audio files in your sequence.

Im having trouble importing mov files into premiere pro on creative cloud, original problem was no video and only audio when I imported mov file, so I have installed quicktime after reading that may solve the problem, but now an error message reads codec missing or unavailable, any help would be appreciated

MOV is a wrapper... what is inside the wrapper?
Codec & Format information, with 2 links inside to read
