Trouble moving from JDev 3.0 to 3.1.1.2

Hi all,
I am trying to connect to an OLite 3.6 database within my Java code by using a connection string with a relative path name for the DATADIRECTORY location. I can do this through JDeveloper 3.0 and from the command line with JDK 1.1.8 (I need JDK1.1.8, not JDK 1.2+). However, with JDeveloper 3.1.1.2 if I use a relative path name I get SQL5148: catalog not found error. That is, the program can't find my .odb file.
If I try System.getProperty("user.dir") in my code JDeveloper 3.0 will give me the direcroty of the project (.jpr file) that holds the runnable code (this is what I expect). JDeveloper 3.1.1.2 gives me the "Output Root Directory" for the project with the runnable code instead.
Is there anyway to change this without changing the Source and Output root directories in the project properties?

Not officially supported but it should work (I have never tested from 9.3.0 though only 9.3.1), the upgrade option just runs sql scripts in the background through each version, no harm in trying maybe on a dev/test env first.
Otherwise you have to go down the supported path route.
