Trouble with Migration manager.

The Migration Manager never ends the cycle. I'm trying to transfer data from my macbookpro to a new iMac. I have followed all the instructions.
I'm working with an ethernet cable. The program starts to run but stops after a few hours.

Windows XP not transfered with migration manager.

We upgraded a MB to a 160G drive, after loading mac os we used the migration utility to transfer all the user files. it all went smooth but the windows xp partition was left behind. I contacted apple who confirmed that migration manager will not do antying with any windows partitions and suggested any 3rd party application to do the job but did not know which one.
We have the old drive in an external case and we can see and mount the partition on the desktop but it's grayed out. Permissions did not do anything.
Has anybody run into this problem? Any ideas, we're trying to avoid having to reload windows xp from scratch again, and aaalll the other applications in it.

See if SuperDuper can handle this.
In my opinion, this is one of the best things about Parallels. You don't have to deal with #!@*^&$% parititions.

Troubles with Migration Assistant SnowLeopard - SnowLeopard

I had to make a clean install of osx 10.6.8 on itself. before that I madea backup on external HD with TimeMachine. Now, the Migration Assistant reads the content of backup disk but it does not start transfer. Any suggestion? tks

It's possible the backups are damaged. Try to repair them, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Why did you do this in the first place? Could there be other problems, such as hardware, that were causing trouble? If so, that may be the difficulty here. You might want to run this: Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test. Run the Extended tests(that may take an hour or so, depending on how much RAM you have). Write down any error code(s) it shows.

Trouble with audible manager

I have a 4gb Zen. I've been using it for almost a year, downloading audiobooks from audible.com with no problem. However, I recently tried to download a book from a friend's audible account ( with her permission, of course) and once it was in my audible manager, it wouldn't load on my player. I don't know exactly what I did over the next hour or so, but I think I re-downloaded the audible manager software or something like that and downloaded the book from my audible account and tried to put it on my Zen. It's all sort of blur of clicking this and that. Anyways, now audible manager won't transfer any audiobooks to my Zen. It says tranfer error, device specific error, cant update device. I tried updating the firmware for the device, reformatting the device, and even deleted the entire library from the manager, (this last was at the suggestion of someone with a similar problem), but nothing has worked. The Zen will accept music files from my computer and itunes, but not audiobooks from any location. I recently updated ?the drivers and re-installed the software for the zen because windows was not recognizing that the player was connected. I don't know if that is part of the bigger problem or not. Any help would be appreciated as I absolutely love audiobooks and am dying not being able to listen to them!

I forgot to mention that I did contact audible support and went through all the steps they recommended. Windows updates are current, too. I tried to re-download the audiobook from my online library and It? went into windows media player instead of audible manager. I did manage to get the book into my zen, but I prefer not to use windows media player. I guess the issue is kind-of resolved. Trouble with migration assistant going from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1

I have a macbook pro running 10.5.8 and just got a new macbook running 10.6.1. I'm trying to run the migration assistant. It gets to the point where it says 'preparing information' on each computer and then it seems to just hang. I've let it go for 45 minutes and nothing happens past that.
Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not sure what you are doing so try this:
On the old computer do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
With both computers turned off connect a Firewire cable between them. Boot the old computer into Target Disk Mode. After the TDM screen appears boot the new computer normally. After the new computer has started you should find a drive icon for your old computer on the new computer's Desktop.
Open Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder. Select the migration option (should be already selected) to migrate from another computer or hard drive. Then follow the onscreen instructions. For additional help select Migration Assistant Help from the Help menu.

I'm having trouble with Migration Asst.

I am in the process of migrating files and settings from my old G4 to my new Mac Mini. In the "Select a Migration Method" window I clicked "From a Time Machine backup or other disk". When I click "Continue" I get a window which says "Select Your Disk" but the spinning wheel in the disk selection pane spins without ever recognizing a disk. The backup disks are mounted on the desktop but I can't find out how to select one of them.
I am using a Firewire 400 external drive with 4 backup partitions. The FW 400 drive is connected to my Mini FW 800 port via a Newer Technology FW 400 to FW 800 adapter.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Trouble with Migration Assistant

I just bought a new Macbook Pro. I have 2.5 year old Macbook pro, running OS 10.4.11. I'm trying to use migration assistant to move everything, but no luck so far. I first tried through the wireless network (knowing it would be slow), but I couldn't get my new computer to see the old one - it would get as far as giving me the passcode to put in the old computer, I'd put that in, and then it would just say preparing or something like that. I waited about 30 min with no luck. So then I went to 3 stores, and eventually found on that sold firewire 800 cables. I tried migration assistant with the firewire option - I get as far as rebooting the old computer and getting the firewire symbol and that's it. The new Macbook pro just keeps saying waiting for computer to reboot. I did upgrade my software on the old Macbook. Not really sure what else to do at this point. Any help would be much appreciated!

Trouble with Migration Assistant! Please help!

My G-4 (OS 9.2.1) flat screen went dark. I want to transfer important files from the G-4 Tower to my new I-Mac OS X (10.4.9). I launch Migration Assistant from the I-Mac. I've got the firewire connected from the G-4 to the I-Mac. I restart the G-4 and hold the T-key on the keyboard down during startup. The Migration Assistant software on the I-Mac indicates it's waiting for the "disks" to appear --- and they don't appear. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

There's no need to use the migration assistant to move OS 9 stuff. Just boot the iMac, hook up the G4 to the iMac, boot the G4 in TDM mode, and when its HD pops up on the iMac's screen, double-click on it, and drag & drop everything from it to the iMac. IIRC, the migration assistant only deals with OS X.

Having troubles with extension manager and new add-on

Hi,
bought a new add-on (never done that before, so it's new to me).
Extension manager CS6 will not load the add-on.
I checked both manager and add-on, both CS6, so it should work.
Updated the manager this morning, which helped a bit, as it is now loading
80%, asking me to accept the disclaimer.
When I do, I get "unexpected error while trying to install".
Then it's loading and installing again. When it's finished there is no new add-on (extension) loaded or to be seen.
Could you help me with this problem, please?

Hi Anne, what is the add-on called? What build of Extension Manager do you have installed? Are you on Windows or Mac?

Trouble with migration

Is there anyway to remove what I migrated to my new MacBook? I now have abunch of stuff I didn't want. I am very inexperienced with all this.

Trouble with migration tool

Not sure if I am in the correct forum. I am trying to migrate information from my old faithful g-4 iMac to my shiny new MacBook Pro. I performed all of the steps as instructed, I don't find any of the files on my new system. I was expecting photos, documents, music, etc to be part of the migration. Was I expecting too much? If anyone could assist, it would be appreciated.

Worked it out myself. The migration tool had setup another user. All is well.

Trouble with Migration: two identities with different "powers"

I am migrating from an old PowerBookG4 to a MacBook. The PowerBook is failing, so I couldn't insert and install the migration disc, as it recommends because it just quits when i try to install it, however Migration is on the computer, and seems to be the same version. (I crashed last year, and may have been installed then by the guy who repaired it) Anyhow, I made the mistake of starting the migration via. airport, realized my mistake and force quit. The MacBook then had me set up a new identity, which I did... oops? Then, I connected the Ethernet cable, and migrated again. There are now two "identities". One is running all the old stuff from my old computer. and then there's the new identity. One has all the new features, like the handy-dandy new scroll pad... and the old one doesn't. However, the old one can open any Excel file, and the new one can't.... WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I should mention, I also installed a new version of Office:Mac. Shall I throw them both out and start all over again? Is that possible? I have no problem doing that if it's possible.

Trouble with Session Management

I am trying to assess how many people I lose on my site
because they dont have cookies enabled. when I disable cookies in a
browser and <cfoutput> a urltoken, it prints out a new value
every time I refresh the page, as expected. But when I try to log
the CFID when people come to my home page so that I may pass it
around through the site, I get some "element CFID undefined in
session" errors

thanks for the help. I thought Id tell you more about what I
am doing and see if you have comments - we use google to market our
company so clicks are costing us big bucks. currently, our sites
rely on session management to operate, so I realize that folks
having cookies off is really hurting us. All the references I can
find tote passing the session.URLToken around the site to make it
cookie independent. I havent done this yet, first im trying to get
a handle on how many people have cookies off (like you are), and
where people are coming from to see if we are having click fraud
(which we are very suspicious of).
Is this what you would do (passing the URLToken around)? Any
other comments you have would be very much appreciated.

Trouble with migration software

I'e just switched over to iMac and trying to move files etc from my PC.
after downloading the windows migration software, i get this message
You can’t open the application “WindowsMigrationAssistantSetup.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.
what am I missing?

Trouble with Desktop Manager

When I connect my 8830 (Sprint) to my computer, the computer no longer recogonizes the phone. However, the phone will charge when connected to the USB Cable. I have tried other cables and downloaded v4.6 of the DTM, but no luck. Has anyone else had this problem? Please advise
