Troubleshooting LV(8.6.1) crash

Hello, I'm trying to locate the cause of an application crash. There is no diagnostic output from LV. WinXP pops up dialog allowing only 'Send' or 'Don't Send' (report to Microsoft). Either button results in all other LV code termination.
From XP event log I see: Error; Event ID: 1000; Description: Faulting application labview.exe, version 8.6.0.4001, faulting module msvcr71.dll, version 7.10.6030.0, fault address 0x00003551.
It is a large application with many processes, one of which is a TCP server. This is the only one which is found to be unresponsive after the crash; all others continue to work normally. (Server listens for incoming messages, then spawns a new handler for each message received.) At a nominal polling rate of once per second, crash occurs after several hours in some cases, while lasting several days/weeks with no crash in other cases. Same issue was seen in LV8.5, LV8.5.1, and now LV8.6.1. Frequency of crash is very sporadic.
What else should I look for to get clues for pinpointing the cause?
Thanks for any insight,
Brian

Hello Brian,
One good tool for debugging Windows crashes is Windbg. Are you calling any external code (dlls). If the dll is coded wrong it is very possible that Windows could close LabVIEW without any of our crash loggers picking up anything.

  • Troubleshooting Mail using the Mail.crash.log file and TN2123 CrashReporter

This morning, for apparently no reason at all, Mail began to consistently crash each time I attempted to send or reply to a message. By observing what occured in mail, opening the crash log [mail.crash.log] located here…
    Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Logs:CrashReporter
…and parsing the information with the help of the Apple Developer Technical Note linked below, I was able to quickly determine that my last action just prior to sending the message—appending a signature to it—resulted in the application crashing. Simply by deleting the existing signature and recreating it, I was able to resolve the problem in only a matter of minutes.
This demonstrates how useful crash logs can be, and why they should likely be the very first place you look for an indication of trouble when an application unexpectely quits.

  • My mozilla is crashing all the time. Every 5 minutes or so. I've gone through the troubleshooting steps, but it still crashes. Please help.

I don't know what the problem is. I have windows 8. It has crashed 4 times trying to submit this to you.

hello lisa, unfortunately this seems to be a crash that is appearing in firefox 19 on windows 8 with AMD Radeon HD 6XXX/7XXX graphics cards - developers are investigating the causes of it...
the best option probably is to downgrade to the to the former version at the moment until this gets sorted out: [[Install an older version of Firefox]]
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/18.0.2/win32/
the auto-update in firefox 18 for the affected systems is now disabled and will be turned back on when a fix is available.

  • Mozilla firefox won't open it comes up with mozilla crash reporter before the browser opens

I cannot open the browser at all everytime I try and open it it comes up with crash reporter and then the browser doesn't open at all. I cannot open it in safe mode either as when I try and press shift while opening it it doesn't even come up with an option to open it in safe mode. I cannot troubleshoot it if it is not opening either which is frustrating. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but still no use.

  • SBS 2011 Standard SP1 - Randomly rebooting after svchost crash

Last week 10/22, my SBS 2011 server began restarting randomly anywhere from every 2 hours to as long as every 4 hours. In reviewing the logs, it appears that an svchost process crashes (in Application log) which surrounds ntdll.dll and then many services
crash and the System log shows a request by RPC to restart the server.
I have seen similar threads but none of them end up with a solution or viable suggestion.
No changes were made to the server on that day but since this began, I have installed all updates to drivers and the OS but no change.

  • Firefox crashes every time I open it, within seconds, so I can't fix anything in the toolbars (if that's where the problem is).

Every time I open Firefox, even in Safe Mode, it crashes within 5 seconds. It's not enough time to make changes in the toolbars at top. The page says "Well, this is embarrassing..." and when it crashes it takes me to Mozilla Crash Reporter. I opened Fontbook, eliminated bad fonts, and that didn't help. I'm working on a Mac OS X 10.8.4 and Chrome works fine. There don't appear to be any malware problems. I've looked through all the help forums and none of them have contained suggestions that solve my problem.

Hello SEHW, we're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing when you open it. Please do the following to give us crash IDs that will help us understand more about the crash.
#Click the '''Finder''' icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the '''Go''' menu, hold down the '''option''' or '''alt''' key and select '''Library'''. A window will open containing your Library folder. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.
#Open the 5 most recent files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID with '''bp-''' into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

So from yesterday i started getting random crashes with Firefox and at one point it had froze my screen for a few minutes, now today when i attempted to get into my browser there is about 5 seconds before it instantly closes and sends me a crash reporter, i have tried re-installing and system restore AND trying to use safe mode but it still crashes, is anyone experiencing the same problem?

I can't access any Mozilla support through Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and redownloaded Firefox multiple times in an effort to solve the problem. I always send the Crash report but it seems to do nothing to solve the issue.

  • Firefox 22 crashes when clicking a link in a thunderbird 3.011 email

I updated to FF 22 a couple of days ago and found that when I clik on a link in a Thunderbird email FF doesn't start but immediately crashes. Safe-mode does nothing to help. If I start the browser first it seems to be ok. It is set as the default browser. The only thing that fixed my problem was reverting to FF 21.
    Windows XP SP2
I've never had issues with FF so this is a new thing. I've tried reinstalling FF 22 and upgraded Thunderbird. It didn't help either.

  • Firefox keeps crashing. Even when i start it in safe mode

I have a Windows 7 64bit computer working with firefox for a long time. Yesterday they think they opened some SPAM message, firefox crashed and isn't working any more. I have performed all actions mentioned below without any succes:
    - Firefox does the same starting in safe mode. Removed the profiles and created a new one without importing any settings. same problem
    - Removed Firefox, removed all folders, removed all Firefox links in registry. Reinstalled firefox, same problem
    - Removed java and flash, firefox still crashes
    - created a new user account in Windows, logged on, still the same problem.
    - Scanned the computer with Norman Security Suite, McAffee Stinger, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, TrendMicro Housecall. Except for cookies, nothing was found.
    - Windows System restore wasn't configured so unfortunately no restore points available.
User was really happy with Firefox and really doesn't want to use another browser, but now she has to.
Reinstalling the OS isn't really an option, to much settings, software and connections to other devices in the network.
    Can Anyone please help????
