Have you already made the parition?  I know next to nothing about using parted, I am a gptfdisk user myself (gdisk), but I do know that if that is the exact command you used, you are not actually specifying anything with /dev/disk.  There is a /dev/disk directory, but it leads to a bunch of symlinks for various alternative names for /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc.  I think what it is asking for is to actually specify the partition where the small grub partition is located.  So if you put it at the beginning of the first disk it would be /dev/sda1.
Alternatively, you could just use gdisk.  I think gdisk is much much more user friendly, and has a much saner approach to partition type codes.  Use the interactive functionality with "gdisk /dev/sda" (assuming you want to modify sda), then enter a "?" to get a list of available options.  I think it is a "t" that allows you to change the partition's type code.  Select the partition you want to modify, and then change the code to ef02.

    The trial is always extended. The serial number you enter determines whether it runs as standard or extended.
    I'm getting through fine with that link, so it must be a browser issue or some such thing. Try another browser.

  • SPS7 .hdbprocedure with INSERT gives privilege error during activation

    Hello All,
    We have upgraded to SPS7. We are trying to use an INSERT statement on a database table in a .hdbprocedure. For this we removed the READ SQL
    addition on the SQL header, made SQLSCRIPTMODE parameter as UNSECURE in Configuration.
    But the problem with privilege seems to be at the table level. I try to create a Custom role(.hdbrole). This gets activated fine when I just give the SELECT on the SCHEMA.
    But when I add INSERT in addition to SELECT privilege on schema holding the table it gives an error Cannot Activate/No Privilege to activate Catalog Object
    The INSERT on the table is not letting me activate the .hdbprocedure or a custom role. Can you please advice what could be the problem.
    Also, an SLT has been configured to get data into these set of tables, could this be the problem.
    Best regards,
    Pavan

    Hi Phoenix,
    The user should grant the respective read/update/delete privilege on the schema used in the Procedure to _SYS_REPO user.
    If this is a SLT generated schema then there are roles generated which provide such privilges o the users you can use them to grant privilege to _SYS_REPO user.

    Anjali.

  • SQLPlus works, ODBC with IC gives 12154 error

    I can connect no problem using this:
    sqlplus.exe scott/tiger@//oracle-test.cue.<ourDomain>.com:1521/montest
    But I can't get a successful connection test when trying to set up the ODBC source.
    I get this error:
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    (Interestingly, I had an ODBC connection testing fine and receiving inserts using Instant Client on this machine, but that DB got deleted, and I haven't been able to connect to any others since)
    Also, I copied the following files from a machine on my subnet that has no problem connecting either via SQLPlus or ODBC.
    [This is my sqlnet.org file:]
    # SQLNET.ORA Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\ora81\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = cue.<ourDomain>.com
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)

    My paths are set up correctly as far as I can tell:
    I have my TNS_ADMIN pointing to C:\InstantClient\network\admin (location of .ora files)
    And my PATH has C:\InstantClient as it's first entry.
    I've read a whole bunch of web pages concerning this error, but none of the suggestions have worked yet. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

    Yes, I've been using the driver called 'Oracle in instantclient'. And I have run the odbc_install.bat script to get this driver added to the list of ODBC drivers. It told me "Oracle ODBC Driver is instaled sucessfuly", with both mizspeleengs as I've typed them.
    Everything seems to be in place.
    I would still very much like to know why the TNS Listener cannot "resolve the connect identifier specified. (Error 12154)"
    My main folder is "C:\InstantClient"
    My Path contains "C:\InstantClient"
    I have ORACLE_HOME pointing to "C:\InstantClient"
    I have SQLPATH pointing to "C:\InstantClient"
    I have TNS_ADMIN pointing to "C:\InstantClient\network\admin"
    Which is where I have my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora:
    [listener.ora looks like this:]

    LISTENER =

    (SERVICE_NAME = MONTEST)
    Running a batch file with the following in it:
    sqlplus.exe scott/tiger@//10.0.20.12:1521/montest
    allows me to successfully run SQL statements
    I sure would appreciate any direction you can give.

  • GRPO with Freight gives an error ...

    Hello Experts,
    When I post a GRPO without Freight it gives no error, but when I try to add with Freight Amount it gives an ERROR.
    Inventory Account is not defined [Goods Receipt PO - Rows - Warehouse Code] Message 173-77.
    Freight Setup: for that perticulat Freight that I am using... is Revenue and Expense Accounts are defined... Distribution and Drawing Methods are Quantity and Stock Check Box is CHECKED.
    Help Required...
    Thanks & Regards

    Hello Nazir,
    If your the items are set up with 'GL accounts managed by warehouse' (this is defined under the Inventory Tab of the Item Master Data), you should check that all the accounts for the warehouse have been set up under Administration => Set Up => Inventory => Warehouses => Accounting Tab.
    In particulary you should check that you have defined an Expense Account for the specific warehouse in the GRPO document.
    Also since you have chosen to affect the stock with additional expenses you need to specify an offsetting G/L account to the Stock account for clearing journal entries created by A/P Invoices and Goods Receipt POs.
    I hope it solves your issue.

  • SP with xp_cmdshell gives an error in the MessageQueue, but executes successfully in SSMS.

    Hi All,
    I have a SP, which calls xp_cmdshell in it. This SP is being used in a MessageQueue.
    The SQL server and Agent services are configured using a Domain service account, and this service account has a login under the sysadmin server role as well.
    When the MessageQueue is invoked, the SP returns the following exception :
    The xp_cmdshell proxy account information cannot be retrieved or is invalid. Verify that the '##xp_cmdshell_proxy_account##' credential exists and contains valid information.
    But when I execute the SP in SSSMS, under the service account login (which is a sysadmin), it successfully executes.
    I even created the ##xp_cmdshell_proxy_account## credential, but the Message Queue never stops giving this error.
    This is how the queue looks like :
    CREATE QUEUE [dbo].[TestxmCmdshellQueue]
    WITH STATUS = ON ,
    RETENTION = OFF ,
    ACTIVATION (      STATUS = ON ,
                            PROCEDURE_NAME = [dbo].[SpWithxp_cmdshell_Init] ,
                            MAX_QUEUE_READERS = 5 ,
                            EXECUTE AS N'dbo'  ),
    POISON_MESSAGE_HANDLING (STATUS = OFF)
    The Service account is configured as a Local Administrator in the Local Server as well.
    I am running SQL Server 2008 R2 Sp2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Machine.
    Please let me know what I am missing here.

    I Made TRUSTWORTHY = ON in the database and the SP executed without any problem by the Message Queue.
    No, that is not the solution.
    Yes, it works. And it is a lot simpler than the solution I pointed you to. But it opens a big security hole. Or, well, depending how things you are on your server, it may be entirely uncontroversial. But as long as I don't know anything, I will have
    to assume that it is a security hole. And even if there is no one today on the server who is db_owner in the database but who should not be sysadmin, that could happen in the future.
    So, to anyone else who is reading this: don't set your databases to be trustworthy, unless you fully understand the implication. The correction solution is to use certificate signing. I describe this in detail in my article, and this article also explains
    the dangers with TRUSTWORTHY.

  • No Booting of Windows 8.1 After GPT Partition Resizing with Easeus Partition Master 3.0

    Hi there,
    I have a Sony Notebook SVS13A3Z9ES with preinstalled Windows 8 which I updated to Windows 8.1. The notebook has a
    250GB SSD which had the following GPT partitions
    Partition 1: SONYSYS - 260MB (Sony Vaio tools, type OEM)
    Partition 2: Windows RE - 1,4 GB (Type OEM)
    Partition 3: EFI System Partition - 260 MB (type System)
    Partition 4: MSR 128 MB  (type reserved)
    Partition 5: About 240 GB - (incl. Windows, Type Prime)
    Partition 6: Windows Recovery 350 MB (type OEM)
    Partition 7: Recovery: 28 GB - OEM -> I created instead a Recovery USB stick and have now another prime partition
    I then shrinked the Windows partition to 101GB with the Easeus Partition Master 3.0 to create another partition dedicated for data only. I didn't use the Windows built-in partition tool because I still wanted to shift the part.6,
    being able to only extend part.7 for the final data partition. After I activated the shrinking via the Easeus I had to restart the notebook. I immediately came obviously to the Windows RE environment :
    - asking me for selecting language
    - afterwards I was brought to the Option Menue
    * Continue Booting -> led me back to the language selection
    * Turn-of PC and
    * Trouble Shooting ->
    Proceeding with Troubleshooting
    * Recovery and Maintenance -> tried to start VAIO Care but couldn't access it -> back to Option Menu
    * Refresh PC -> led to the message
    “The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.”
    It seems that the C: drive was locked after shrinkingthe partition with Easeus.
    * Advanced Options ->
    Proceeding with Advanced Options:
    * Automatic Repair -> couldn't be executed, log file on C:. With cmd the C:\>  drive can be initialized but Windows folder is not found (probably locked or hidden)
    * Recovery Point Recovery -> no recovery points were detected -> back to Troubleshooting
    * System Image Recovery -> no image points were detected -> back to Troubleshooting
    * UEFI Firmware Settings -> led to the Vaio Care RescueMode screen which can be seen here
    http://community.sony.com/t5/VAIO-Upgrade-Backup-Recovery/How-can-I-enter-bios-on-my-vaio-I-want-to-boot-from-the-cd-drive/td-p/60063
    e.g. starting Windows from there led to WinRE again
    * cmd window ->
    Finally we have the cmd Window. Here are several postings in the internet with potential solutions but no one helped me so far. Example postings:
    http://superuser.com/questions/460762/how-can-i-repair-the-windows-8-efi-bootloader
    http://www.qliktips.com/2012/11/fix-windows-8-boot-issue.html
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/rebuild-bcd-store-windows.htm
    http://www.winhelp.us/repair-your-computer-in-windows-8.html
    I tried so far:
    - chkdsk -> executed, no problems
    - Bootrec /fixmbr -> executed
    - Bootrec /fixboot -> executed
    - Bootrec /rebuildbcd, result:
    Successfully scanned Windows installations.
    Total identified Windows installations: 0
    The operation completed successfully.
    Restart brought me directly to language selection and Windows RE back again.
    BCDBoot c:\Windows -> executed successfully but restart
    back to WinRE
    Then I assigned a letter to the EFI partition using diskpart v6.2.9200 and replaced bcd file with
    1. method: BCDBoot c:\Windows /s z: /f ALL   (z: letter of EFI partition) ->
    executed successfully but restart back to WinRE
    2. method: Bootrec /rebuildbcd -> executed successfully but restart back to WinRE
    I had the recovery USB stick inserted but it was never used so far.
    Do you still have other solution ideas restore the booting or an approach how to unlock the GPT c: drive with Windows again ? I would appreciate that very much.

    Hi,
    According to your description,the system was damaged by the partition tool.
    Since you upgraded to Windows 8.1,you cannot use Windows 8 recovery media to repair the system.
    If you have some important data in the SSD,I suggest that you move the ssd to other computer,and backup the data.
    As you said,you had the recovery USB stick inserted but it was never used so far.
    For this issue,please change your BOIS setting for USB.
    I suggest you use your recovery USB stick to reinstall your system.

  • Create a GPT partition table and format with a large volume (solved)

    Hello,
    I'm having trouble creating a GPT partition table for a large volume (~6T). It is a RAID 5 (hardware) with 3 hard disk drives having a size of 3T each (thus the resulting 6T volume).
    I tried creating a GPT partition table with gdisk but it just fails at creating it, stopping here (I've let it run for like 3 hours...):
    Final checks complete. About to write GPT data. THIS WILL OVERWRITE EXISTING
    PARTITIONS!!
    Do you want to proceed? (Y/N): y
    OK; writing new GUID partition table (GPT) to /dev/md126.
    I also tried with parted but I get the same result. Out of luck, I created a GPT partition table from Windows 7 and  2 NTFS partitions (15G and the rest of space for the other) and it worked just fine. I then tried to format the 15G partition as ext4 but, as for gdisk, mkfs.ext4 will just never stop.

    To make things clear: sda is an SSD on which Archlinux has been freshly installed (sda1 for root, sda2 for home, sda3 for swap), sde is a hard disk drive having Windows 7 installed on it. My goal with the 15G partition is to format it so I can mount /var on the HDD rather than on the SSD. The large volume will be for storage.
    So if anyone has any suggestion that would help me out with this, I'd be glad to read.

    Well, I finally decided to use a software RAID as I will not share this partition with Windows anyway and it seems a better choice than the fake RAID.
    Therefore, I used the mdadm utility to create my RAID 5:
    # mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --level=5 --raid-devices=3 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1
    # mkfs.ext4 -v -m .1 -b 4096 -E stride=32,stripe-width=64 /dev/md0
    It works like a charm.

  • [SOLVED] Trouble installing on SSD with GPT partitioning

    Hi there!
    I'm trying to install Arch on my brandnew SSD. As per the wiki, I've set the SSD up to use GPT partitioning. I've created a first 1MB partition of type BIOS boot partition, and in the mobo's BIOS I've set the SATA controllers to AHCI mode. I've manually created an ext4 filesystem on the 2nd partition before running arch's installer. In the installer, I chose not to install a boot loader, cause this is said to install GRUB, while GPT partitioning requires GRUB2. So, after installation, I've chrooted into the installation, cause there doesn't seem to be any other way to get GRUB2 installed. I've pacman -Sy'd grub2 and left the chroot. I've tried to run
    grub-install --recheck --no-floppy --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda
    , but got
    Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take some time.
    The file /mnt/boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly
    What's the matter? How am I supposed to get a working boot loader onto my new SSD?
    Best wishes,
    Rufus

    Check whether grub-install belongs to grub package or grub2 package. Try to install these updated grub2 packages from here
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9710721/skodabe … pkg.tar.xz - for x86_64
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9710721/skodabe … pkg.tar.xz - for i686
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9710721/skodabe … pkg.tar.xz - any arch
    and then follow the post_install instructions from grub2-bios package.
    You might have to 'bind' mount /dev into your <chroot>/dev though or install the above packages and install grub2 from outside the chroot.

    You must use the Windows formatter to format your Windows partition NTFS. Please be sure you select the Windows partition otherwise you might end up formatting your OS X partition NTFS.

  • Lion: error trying to delete a partition with disc utility

    Hi to all. Today I tryed to delete an old and unused partition with disc utility, but after starting the process an error pop up ans says: Necessary support for file system resize, like HFS+ with enabled journaling.
    What should i do? I've created a cd with iPartition, and it works, but i prefer to use disc utility. Can anyone help?

    Select the partition in Disk Utility and see if you can turn on journaling, if it's an HFS+ volume. How is the drive presently partitioned: APM, GUID, or MBR?
    How old is this partition and how was it created?

  • GRUB/MBT-- GPT partitioning on BIOS-based Motherboard

    Hi,
    I have a BIOS-based motherboard, dual (1.5TB) drive, dual boot (Arch/Win7, both 64b) PC, and use GRUB (current, not legacy) bootloader installed on the Win7 HD.
    Both HDs were MBR formatted and include several partitions. Both OS-fully updated (up to 3 days ago).
    Two days  ago the Win7 HD (which also includes the Arch separate /var and swap partitions) sent a SMART Alert it's about to fail.
    Thus I've installed a new, larger (3TB) replacement drive.
    To overcome MDSOS/MBR limitations, I've partitioned the new drive using GPT (GUID) and prepared a new 2M BIOS GRUB (first) partition per the Wiki's recommendation.
    Using live clonezilla, I managed to clone the Windows (C),  and var partitions (although I've lost some win data which was on a separate partition).
    Now I plan to chroot into Arch and reinstall GRUB on the new drive (and edit fstab to reflect UUID changes).
    As I have no GPT experience, I would appreciate answers to the following questions:
    1. Have I forgotten anything?
    2. Should I convert also my Linux HD (the one that did NOT fail) to GPT or can I leave it MBR?
    3. My former (failed) Win partition was boot flagged. Do I need to boot flag the BIOS GRUB or the (new) Windows partition (both on the "new" drive)?
    4. On the new drive, I've creaed a 2.6TB NTFS partition (photo storage, replacing a former 1.2 TB one). Will Win 7 recognize it?
    Thanks!

    You can try to boot from the BIOS into an UEFI environment, then continue to Windows:

    As far as I know, you'll have to reinstall windows from scratch.
    Edit: Since you still have an MBr disk, it would be easier to move linux to the new disk and install windows on your mbr disk. Win7 on MBR should have no problems to recognize a GPT disk after booting.

  • SSD wear levelling with GPT partitioning

    does GPT help with SSD wear levelling? Is data written randomly to the physical drive, while the GPT table keeps track of which is what? I ask because it is recommended to have a single partition on an SSD for wear levelling. However, I would like to partition it to multi-boot several distros. It seems that GPT behaves like LVM because when I resize a gpt partition, it is done instantly (very quickly), as if data is not being physically re-allocated. On the other hand, it could be because my SSD is almost empty--very few personal files and the rest is just linux. So, this is why I asked the question. The other advantage of partitioning is that the dd command will run much faster and produce smaller image files, which allows me to do incremental backups.
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thanks

    Not exactly what I meant. Some online discussions suggest that partitioning will confine disk read/write activities to a certain region of the SSD, thus wearing it out quickly. On the other hand, other discussions suggest that wear levelling protection happens at lower level by the SSD controller which is indifferent to partitioning--as far as it is concerned, partitioning is just data organization at the OS level. So, you can partition as much as you want and the wear levelling protection will still evenly distribute writes across the entire SSD, regardless of the partitions boundaries.
    When I used to resize partitions on my HDD with MBR, it took a very long time because data had to be re-arranged. However, when I resize partitions on the SSD with GPT, it happens instantly as if the data are never re-arranged--only the partition table is modified.
    Is this due to using GPT or is it because SSD wear levelling protection does not care about partitioning, be it MBR or GPT?
    Ultimately, I want to make sure that creating 10 partitions, and using one of the partitions frequently with my main distro, is not going to wear out the SSD prematurely.

    we have successfully installed Oracle Linux 5.5 on IBM - System X3650 M3 machine and later scrapped this Linux OS and Installed Windows 2008 OS for other demo purpose.
    Now again we are trying to install the Oracle Linux on this machine we are encountering the below issue...
    Oracle Linux 5.5 installation on IBM - System X3650 M3
    Encountering below error message while creating the custom partitioning creation
    Partitioning Error
    The following critical errors exit with your requested partitoning scheme.
    Your boot partition is a disk using the GPT paritioning scheme but this machine cannot boot using GPT.
    These errors must be corrected prior to continuing with your install of enterprise linux.
    Please help.

    Now again we are trying to install the Oracle Linux on this machine and the machine is NOT detecting the network devices and the network configuration screen does not appear during the installations to assign the staticIP and the hostname to the machine.
    Now, the Network Devices screen is NOT displaying during the installtion (where we have to enter the IP Address and hostname details)- the Network Devices Screen should come after the partition layout and GRUB boot loader screen.
    The network cable is attached with this machine already.
