Trying to set up IMAP

I have a work email that I'm trying to set up IMAP. Does anyone know a good sit the has step by step procedures on how to set it up that isn't a gmail or yahoo account setup?

does your work provide IMAP support. They have to allow it first. And if they do, they will tell you the settings.

This has nothing to do with iPhoto. When I have this type of problem I call tech support for my email service. They probably are the only source of the correct settings

  • I am trying to set up a new iTunes account on my PC, but it keeps telling me I'm not old enough. I'm 35 years old! Any suggestions?

I am trying to set up a new itunes account on my PC and whe I fill out all the information and hit submit, it says that I'm not old enough to have an account.  I've tried it with difference birth years, but still get the same response.  Any suggestions?

The SMTP settings are separate from the POP or IMAP settings within Mail.app (which can be a little confusing), and the SMTP settings are incorrect.  That could be some combination of the username or password, the SMTP server name, the TCP port, whether or not SSL is in use or not.  It's more common to have SSL enabled.  All have to be correct.  The required SMTP server settings do vary by mail provider, unfortunately.  You can use Connection Doctor to get more details on the particular error; Window > Connection Doctor, then open the drawer for a look at additional details.  If you're not able to resolve the error from that output and from the mail provider's available documentation, and establish the connection, please scrub any personal details from the detailed diagnostics, and post that output here.

  • TS4337 In trying to set up a time zone in iCal, when pressing "other" i only get options of cities in California, or Ensenada in Mexico. Iwanted to set up a meeting in Washington D.C. but could not find the option.

I've tried to set up a meeting in a different tiem zone from the one I use normally. So I go to the Time Zone tab and pick "Other". However, "Other" only offers cities in California, and a few in Az and in north of Mexico. But no Washington D.C. or any other Eastern city.

    Hi Mina.
Mail doesn’t support Exchange accounts directly, but rather accesses them as IMAP accounts. According to Mail Help’s “Setting up your email accounts” article:
For Exchange to work with Mail, Exchange administrators need to configure the Exchange server for IMAP access.

  • Trying to set up daughter's e-mail - please help!

I set up an AOL e-mail account for my daughter. I have been trying to set it up on her ipod touch and for some reason it doesn't recognize her user name or password. Last week, all was fine. She could access her e-mail for about one day with out issues. But ever since then, we've gotten an error message. I've tried deleting the account & setting it up a new. I powered down the touch - and re-synced it. Still I get "The user name or password for "imap.aol.com" is incorrect". I know it's correct because I logged into AOL after it told me that using the same information & got on OK.
Can someone please help me? Does this have something to do with the fact she has a Kids AOL account? Her e-mail suffix is the same as any other aol account.
    Thanks -
    Robin

I just spoke with someone from AOL tonight for over 1 hour trying to work this out. Finally he realized it was an aol kids account which I told him several times. He said those accounts can not work on other devices. Which is what I figured. I filled out a comment to AOL stating that they should have this as an option under the parental controls to allow use on ipods. So hopefully AOL will consider this change in policy. I wish I knew this before we opened the account because I probably would have adjusted her age!

  • Trying to set up kiddos e-mail on ipod touch

I am trying to set up my kid's email on the Ipod touch, keeps giving me error. I think I am going wrong with the IMAP vs POP. Which one am I supposed to be using--feeling very stupid right now)-: Thanks for any help I can get!!

Only few accounts/providers allow you to select IMPA or POP3. Usually you have no choice and you have to use the type that the provider provides. Have yo looked at the email support webpage for the provider? If you state the name of the provider someone here may be able to help.

  • Can't set up IMAP mail - configuration cannot be verified

    Hi,
I'm having trouble setting up the IMAP mail from my work exchange server in a fresh install of Thunderbird. Once I'd put in the server address Thunderbird retrieved all of the security settings, which I've checked agains the provided settings that are listed in the webmail. I've also used these settings to set up IMAP mail on my phone to triple check everything. However, in the account set-up screen I still recieve the message "Configuration cannot be verified - Is your username/password correct?" (again, I checked everything I was using independently and they were accepted). Once I got out of the initial set-up screen the error changed to the following:
"The Kerberos/GSSAPI ticket was not accepted by the IMAP server <my email address>. Please check that you are logged into the Kerberos/GSSAPI realm."
The only possibility that I can think of is that Thunderbird is trying to use my email address instead of the server to authenticate which is why I'm recieving the error. The mail address is [email protected] while the server is soliscom.uu.nl.
Any help or suggestions that anyone has would be welcome,
    Cheers.

Under Tools/Account Settings/<i>accountname</i>/Server Settings, check what you have for Authentication method. "Normal password" is the most common setting for secure connections, not Kerberos/GSSAPI, which seems to be why you get the error message.
But if you are sure that Kerberos/GSSAPI authentication is required, see this article for instructions on how to make the necessary change in Config. editor:

  • Mail won't set up IMAP account

    Hello,
When setting up my Gmail account, I don't have the option to set it up manually as an IMAP account. After I enter my name, email and password in the first dialogue box, I click "continue" and it automatically sets it up as a POP account. I understand there's supposed to be a "automatically set up this account" checkbox but I'm not seeing one (there's only a "continue" button). I've already enabled IMAP on my Gmail account settings. I also trashed the Mail prefs file (com.apple.mail) and restarted my computer. No success.
I'd very much appreciate any advice, tips, etc.. Thanks very much in advance.
    - Candice

    Candice,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
In my experience you should have the opportunity to change the POP type setting to IMAP, but haven't tried the Gmail lately. However, if you hold down the Option key while clicking on the + sign to add an account, you will go into manual mode.

  • How do I set up IMAP email to sync email between iPhone, Laptop and desktop

Applestore "Genius" couldn't answer and Applecare gave me wrong directions. I'm really struggling because I know it can be done!

    hey,
thanks a lot for the advice. but what do you mean by SYNC? how does Mac mail on my laptop sync to my iPhone? and/or how do i tell my iPhone to sync to my Mac mail on my laptop. i have tried setting up my mac mail on my laptop first, then iPhone. hasnt worked. tried it the other way around (setting up my iPhone manually) and that created new folders on my webmail interface/server.
then there are the "keep a copy" functions under mailbox behavior — should i "keep a copy on the server"s or not?
lastly, when i set up IMAP on my Mac mail on my laptop, it keeps a set of subfolders "Deleted Messages" "Sent Messages" and "Trash" underneath an inbox server corresponding to my IMAP email. these folders then ALL show up on my iPhone, which cant send receive or sync any email.
if i just delete everything email off of each device and start from scratch, can you send me specific setup steps? (that's assuming my desktop (G4) and laptop share identical settings in Mac Mail)

I keep getting an error message while trying to setup my imap Gmail and Aol  accounts on my new ipad air. The error says user name or password is incorrect but I know for a fact they are correctly entered. How do I correct this?

Hi Allan, thanks for that. I've already set up a log in for my wife and that is all working fine. The problem is that when she logs in and opens iTunes and trys to associate her library with her iTunes account she gets the error message "This computer is already associated with another iTunes account". Whilst this is true, the computer is associated with my iTunes account under my separate log in, which should have nothing to do with hers. If she transfers the association to her account it will lock me out of my content on my log in for 90 days - I'm trying to work out how to associate each of the log in accounts with a separate iTunes account so we can access our music independently of one another without locking each other out. Hope that makes sense!

  • E66, setting up IMAP mailbox manually

    Hi!
Im trying to set up an IMAP mailbox for my E66, but when I hit create new mailbox, the phone just fires up the email wizard. Answering the questions does create me a mailbox, but it's always a pop3 box and the setting can't be changed afterwards. Using pop3 is out of the question since I need to be able to access the same mailbox from several devices/PCs/webmail. Is there somekind of a trick to go round the wizard and enter all the settings manually, without the phone trying to be smarter than me?
Thanks for your help in advance!

have you turned on the option for IMAP in your virgin account? Log on via your web browser and see if the option to use IMAP is ticked.

  • I need help setting up IMAP

I check my email on several devices (personal and work laptops, iPad and iPhone, plus web mail). I am trying to set up my IMAP account so that when I check mail on 4 of those 4 things, the mail stays on the server, but when I check (or send) mail on the 5th device, the mail (both incoming and sent) is removed from the server. We only have a limited amount of server space and a high volume of emails, so permanently leaving it on the server isn't a good solution.
I had thought I had it set up correctly, but now my Sent mail isn't being saved anywhere (not on the server, nore on my laptop) and all my incoming mail seems to stay on the server, while also being downloaded as a copy onto my laptop.
My ideal situation would be 2 have 2 setups (for different devices):
    Setup #1
Incoming mail: received, but stored on the server
Sent Mail: Sent and not saved anywhere.
    Setup #2
Incoming Mail: Received and downloaded and removed from the server, stored only locally.
Sent Mail: Sent and saved only locally (if I have to save it on the server, I will delete periodically, but would rather not have to!)
    I'm using OSX 10.7.5, BTW.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • I am trying to set up Sharing amongst several computers on my home network.  I have followed all the setup instructions but after completion Sharing does not appear in my iTunes window (on any of the computers I've set up).  There is no explanation why.

I have been trying to set up Sharing between two computers on my network. I did this once and it worked.  However, when I try to set this up now the Sharing feature does not appear on the left side of the iTunes window (on either computer).  There is no explanation as to why not.  Is this a configuration problem, a network problem or what?   Can it be fixed?  I have tried turning sharing off and back on on both computers but to no avail.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hey innerev2003,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If, while searching through your past purchases, items are unavailable to download and show a "Purchased" button, they are still on your computer. It may be best to search your iTunes library by clicking Music, then use the search bar at the top right.
If you are completely sure the items are no longer in your library, try signing out of the iTunes Store, and then back in.

The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. The message is now fixed &amp; I cannot get rid of it. Ironically, when I found this forum I was able to set up an apple Id. Please advise how to get rid of the pop-up box. Thanks!

I'm having this same problem as well and cannot advance--very irritating. All of the information is filled out correctly and I've editted my AppleID information online separately as well to get around this issue, but no luck...
