Trying to update my iPhone 4 - "This version of iTunes is the current version."
When I click "Update" in the phone screen on iTunes, it tells me that this version of iTunes (10.6) is the current version. I tried to download 10.7 and it cannot be downloaded to my OS, apparently.
Then I tried to restore my phone. It told me it was unable to be restored.
I'm currently still in iOS4. I really just want to update the iOS on my phone and I feel like I've exhausted my options. Any ideas?
I'm using OSX 10.5.8, I just bought this OS and upgraded from Tiger two years ago in order to use my phone in the first place - I find it a bit ludacris that a two year old OS is considered too old for their software. Am I downloading it from the right place? I was linked through to Apple's website from another thread here.
What OS is compatible with 10.7?

You cannot override it.

You need itunes 10.1 or higher to get ios 4.2.1 which is the latest available for the iphone 3G. -

You need to update to iTunes 10.x. However, to do that you need to ugrade your computer's OS to at least 10,5,8. That is a paid upgrade.

It should do. Which Playlist are you trying to re-arrange? Is it one you have created or one of the iTunes fixed ones? (Although it is possible to re-arrange the Recently Added Playlist, I would not recommend it.) -

I currently am running 3.1 but would like to update it to the 4.1 version (not the latest 4.3 version). How do I do this? I have already gone online and downloaded the 4.1 firmware for iPhone 3G but not sure how to install it. I unzipped the file then tried to do the Shift>Update trick but none of the downloaded files could be selected. Am I doing something wrong?There is no official way to do what you want, that's why the files can't be selected. iOS 4.2.1 is the last officially signed firmware available for your phone. If you want to install any other firmware you'll have to go elsewhere for instructions as such cannot be discussed here, per this forum's terms of use, sorry.

I have tried to update my iphone and when it come to the sync part my iphone 4 turn off and is now stuck on the connect to itunes symbol. i have tried to restore it and it keeps telling me my internet timed out which its wireless so it cant have. can anyone help??

when I sync my iphone it says that there is newer version of the software but when I click the 'update' button I am told that 'itunes' is the latest version? There seem to be a few apps that are not compatible with my phone and I am wondering if that is because it is not up to date or beacuse it is a 3gs?

I recommend no less than 2GB's of RAM. There is no download for SL, you must purchase from Apple, $29 at any Apple store. Leopard is no longer sold by Apple. About the only place you can find a retail disk is eBay, however the prices are getting ridiculous. -

You need to restore the pre-upgrade backup of the library file in the manner shown in Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

How can I update a Numbers '08 document to work with the current version?
I've had Numbers '08 for quite awhile (obviously). Have a few spreadsheets in it that I tried as an alternative to Excel. I've now got the most current version of Numbers but it won't open the spreadsheets created in the '08 version. I get an error message telling me to save them with Numbers '09, which I do not have.
Is there any way to get these updated to work with the current version? If so, that would be great, would like to try it out. If not, I'm just going to copy this stuff into Excel and be done with Numbers entirely.This is a work-around - but also send feedback to apple that that is pretty low in the 21st century where people may keep data without opening it for a very long time - then need it desperately.

Export the spreadsheets to another format - CSV may work - then import into the new version.
Also you could try export to excel format and import. -

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time? -

Were you updating over the air or connected to your computer? If it was via cable with your computer it should have done a backup prior to starting the update.
