TS2972 Home sharing

I just udated my Apple TV and now i can't access 2 of the 3 music libraries. Before the update i had 3 family members on 1 computer with their own itunes sharing music. Now 2 of them say " could not connect" yet they show up under the computers tab.

Work through each of the suggestions in this Apple support document as necessary.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing with ATV stopped working after upgrade to iTunes 11

After upgrading to iTunes 11, my two PCs are no longer visible to Apple TV or the iOS Remote App.  I went through all the steps in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing" http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972 without success.  In additions, I tried:
Turning Home Sharing off, then on again on both PCs
    Re-created Firewall rules for iTunes
Ran a factory reset on Apple TV
Disabled iPV6 on the network adapter, based on a blogger's fix for an iTunes 10 problem
    Some other observations:
Home Sharing was working with Apple TV an hour before I ran the updates for iTunes 11 and Apple TV.
The Apple TV and iOS Remote App are working together, so the network settings must be correct.
The PCs in question are running Window 8 Pro 64-bit and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
The two PCs can see eachother's iTunes.
It seems likely this is an iTunes 11 issue, but upgrading ATV2 at the same time clouds the diagnostics.
I was just about to order two more Apple TVs, but now have second thoughts now that my ATV2 is just a doorstop.
    Any suggestions?

You are not alone with issues related to the e1000e (but all they concluded was that reloading the module makes it work again):
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=145564
It seems like this is more your issue:
    http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux. … devel/8932
But if none of those boot flags work for you, then there's not much you can do, and you'll have to write a script to reload the module each time after initial boot finishes I guess until the module gets fixed.
Also, power management of the PCIe interface causes the e1000e to shut off after a while as well (lots of people on CentOS noticing this):
    http://serverfault.com/questions/226319 … ie-aspm-do
So you can use that boot parameter to stop that from happening, if that becomes an issue for you as well.

  • TS2972 home sharing when not connected to internet

my old computer will not connect to the internet and it has all my songs on it.  can i still do home sharing?

I do not believe you can based on Apple Technical Support article TS2972.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
In Section 4 under the Resolution, it states:
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network.

  • TS2972 Home sharing is enabled but can not see shared libraries on any devices

I don't see my shared libraries on authorized computers, iphone, nor  Apple TV.
    Ran netstat -an
and see the listener for TCP tcp port 3689
Also see an entry for udp port 5353.
I can open a connection to the tcp port 3689 via a java api program and telnet.
I also used TS2972 to help with thiss
the only thing I did not do is reset the router but since I can open the ports I don't beleieve it is a router issue
All devices ere connected to the same router
All devices are using the same apple id
Need this to work to get the most out of the iphone and apple tv
    any ideas are appreciated

I have set the apple ID in the Home sharing setting on windows. Also set it on the iPhone and Apple TV and also shared another library on another windows iTunes application. I don't see any shared libraries on any device. Both the pcs only show the local  libray.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing does not work for my iphone 4S or my MacBook Pro and my appleTV... why?

I have everything logged in properly.  And I've started and restarted each device...  but still no home sharing.  In fact, the Apple TV icon doesn't even show up on my iPhone any more.  Help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

You've done the obvious things.  Have you restarted your router?

  • TS2972 Home Sharing will not work on my new iPad Mini

I have an iPad mini set up with home sharing on my iMac.  When I try to search my home sharing library on the iPad mini, the music app immediately crashes. Also, it will not sort the music by artist or album, only by song or playlist.  I have rebooted both of the devices multiple times and have verified that OS X, iTunes, and iOS are all up to date. Anyone else having this kind of problem with the new minis?

Figured out my problem sharing my music library on a new iPad Mini (I think).  Two issues:  (1) I have two Apple IDs, the result of doing one years ago and forgetting about it when I set up another; Apple doesn't seem to be able to ever merge or otherwise fix this problem, despite the best efforts of smart folks at the Genius Bar plus of course I'm forced to have 3rd ID as my iCloud username, but never mind....).  I was logged in as one Apple ID and my music library is under the other.  Went to "Music" under settings, signed out under "Home Sharing" on that page, signed in again as the other Apple ID.  (2) Realized then that it was trying to share music from something called my iPad library instead of the library under my name, which is where my music is.  When I fixed these two things, it all shared nicely.  Whew!

  • TS2972 Home sharing - There is no "Shared" heading on my computer.

There is no "shared" tab/heading on my computer.  When I go to advanced, homesharing appears to be turned on.  But how can I use it if there is no "Shared" tab and therefore no "home sharing" tab?
There is a Home Sharing tab on the 2nd computer -- the one that would like to access the library on the 1st computer.
I have the latest version of iTunes.  And Windows 7 on both computers.
    Thanks.

To clarify, there is no "Shared" or "Home Sharing" heading on my  iTunes Side Bar.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing no longer connects to PC

Home Sharing is no longer connecting, I have tried rebooting Apple TV, I have tried turning off home sharing and turning back on, rebooting my PC, and updating both PC and ATV to latest verison - both indicate they are up to date.
I have tried turning off my firewall, etc.  ATV can connect to iTunes so I know it is on my network.

sometimes with network changes it takes a while before they really kick in
which can cause one troubleshooting to change a lot of things too fast and change them back again before
    they kick in

  • TS2972 Home Sharing on Apple TV (2) drops out after about 2 minutes

Home Sharing on Apple TV (2) drops out after playing iTunes music and photos for about 3 minutes. iTunes says Home Sharing is on, but the only way to get it going again is to turn off Home Sharing and sign in again to Home Sharing when it will work for another 3 or 4 minutes maximum. This happens with both computers on the network. Have turned the firewall off but it makes no difference. Any suggestions please

Going to try a signal booster this all started with the TV upgrade. The only reason for the network booster is because iPhone 4 freezes in facebook once and a while. I am trying to solve this problem for my brother my system works with my airport and imac with no issues yet. All brand new.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing from computer (Apple Library) to Apple TV

I turn on home sharing, it will play for about 10-15 minutes then it stops.  I have to stop and restart home sharing on the computer to get it back.  Computer (Win7 Ultimate), Apple TV and router are in the same roomonly several feet apart.  Wireless signal is strong.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Windows Utimate (also have a Mac Mini)

Home sharing is simply accessing your local library, it won't lower quality. Mirroring will compress content as it needs to in order to display everything over real time.
    If on wifi try ethernet
Make sure there are no other activities occurring (streaming, network backups etc)
Go to istumbler or similar to get a network report, look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks

  • TS2972 HOME SHARING WONT WORK WITH ITUNES 12

    I CANT ANYMORE
    My OS is Windows 7
    My iOS device: iPad 7.1.1
    My iTunes Version: 12
AND I've tried by all means to use home sharing with the Remote app, but it doesn't work at all.
    So please HELP ME

I have had this same problem since I upgraded to version 11 of iTunes.  I just found today that if you go into Preferences (under the Edit menu in Windows or under File on Mac OS) there is a Sharing tab that was turned off.  As soon as I checked the box in front of "Share my library on my local network" and the checkbox in front of "Home Sharing computers and devices update play counts" (I don't know if this second checkbox has to be checked or not) and restarted iTunes on each computer it began to work again.
I have no idea why Apple decided to have this turned off by default in version 11+ as I had it working fine prior to upgrading.  I also have no idea why Apple makes no mention of the need to go into the Preferences and make sure Sharing is enabled.  I have found no mention of it in any home sharing documentation...

  • TS2972 Home sharing help :

This used to work and I don't THINK I've changed anything. My main library on my PC is "Home Master" (so my typical main iTunes librabry on my PC when I open up iTunes). It's media files are in "iTunes Master" (public folder). I can see library "Home Master" on iphone but it's empty ? I don't think the iPhone "points" specifcially at "Home Master" but just picks it up from iTunes settings. Yet the PC knows how to find all the files in Home Master.
And iTunes is fired up when I attempt to access the library from my iPhone.

Home sharing only works on the same network.
You can download past purchases from iTunes or wait until you get back home and copy all the content to the "new" computer or a flash/external drive to take back to school with you.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing Issue

When using Home Sharing for the first time, we enabled Home Sharing, signed in with my appleID on 3 laptops on our home network. Computer 1 could see Computer 2 and 3 which both download in a few seconds and no problem sharing music. Computer # 2 and #3 could also see both other computers and share between each other (between 2 and 3). However, even though # 2 and #3 could see computer #1, it would not load computer # 1's library, it just keeps saying "downloading "X's" libary" but it never get there, just keeps chugging along. Library # 1 is not significantly larger then the other two. Anythoughts on what might be causing this? Computer #1 and #2 are both Windows 7 machines and #3 is Windows XP.
Right after I posted this, I figured it out. Under preferences and home sharing, the box wasn't checked to share my entire library. Works fine now. SInce it was acting like it was downloading I hadn't checked that.

    Hi there,
You may want to review the process for importing media using Home Sharing in iTunes 11.

I can view the library in the left hand pane; however, when I select it will not load the music.  It states "Loading "XXXXX Library" and then defaults to the music library.  Can you please help!

  • TS2972 Home Sharing, Where is the Show Menu?

Hi,  I have read the directions for Home Sharing.  My Shared Music Files are showing under the Shared section.  The directions then say to go to the Show Menu and choose files to import.  Where is the Show Menu?  It is not at the bottom of the screen.
