  • Help needed in using Facetime over cellular network on Ipad2 3G IOS6

i updated my Ipad2 3G to IOS6, as they mentioned that i will be able to use facetime over cellular network,
however everytime i try it over the network, it says i must connect through Wifi. any help!!

Facetime over 3G is currently only available on the iPad 3, not the iPad 2 - from http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/ :
    3. FaceTime video calling requires a FaceTime-enabled device for the caller and recipient and a Wi-Fi connection. FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability.

  • TS3367 what can be done if i want to use facetime over my cellular data connection? i have i phone 4 there must be some soultion to at least get the face time audio

    please help me guys

No, there is no work around.  Facetime over cellular requires at a minimum an iPhone 4s, and that your carrier support the feature.  Sorry, but the requirements are what they are.

  • Facetime over cellular not working (at&t)

So we just switched over to an AT&T Mobile Share plan and we're supposed to be able to facetime over cellular now, but it almost never works.
You click on the facetime button, and it just waits and waits and waits, and the person on the other end never gets a request. I know it's not an issue with them not allowing it because we were able to get it to work 1 time out of about 20 attempts (plus it used to give a nasty message and we can setup hotspots now.)
The mobile sharing plan is activated, so facetime should be good to go.
I think what is going on is that it's losing network connectivity. We'll be on LTE, get a phone call, fall off LTE because on AT&T you drop down to 3G when on the phone, and then you hit facetime, and you're still on 3G, and/or your phone hasn't made a connection yet, and then it's stuck in some sort of limbo between cell networks.
It really stinks, because I actually really wanted the ability to do this and was actually going to be using it.
I'm hoping this clears up somehow, or I find a solution... but I'm pretty annoyed. It's supposed to just work, and if it only works 1 time out of 10, I'll just never even try and it's 100% useless.
I'm not sure if this is Apple's fault or AT&T, but I want a solution.
I dropped out of my unlimited data plan to switch over to a mobile share plan, and facetime over cellular was one of the main reasons. If it's not going to work, I'm going to be pretty upset.

More than likely it is an AT&T problem. I have sprint and FaceTime over cellular works great. Not as good quality as wifi but way better than Skype. AT&T is only after your money. With sprint I have unlimited data and not restricted like AT&T does.

  • Will AT&T support FaceTime over cellular?

Will AT&T support FaceTime over cellular with the new iPhone 5?

I am glad to see that this is getting noticed. I went thru this today
AT&T wants to charge for it. Also caution: If you are "grandfathered" into an unlimited data plan and switch to a new "termed" data plan just to get face time available without wifi your unlimited data plan is no longer valid. Also note that AT&T no longer offers an unlimited data plan at this time so you cannot get it back
I downloaded IOS6 and turned my wifi off and tried facetime. It advised that I need to contact AT&T to make sure I had the applicable data plan.
I had an interesting conversation with AT&T today. They told me that I had to sign up for a new plan.
They fully admit that Facetime is interent based and goes over the internet when connected to wifi. I responded that when wifi is turned off, it goes thru the internet on the phone which is data. Since I have unlimited data they are now restricting my unlimited data. They won't deny that. They only state that AT&T offers a new plan which allows you to use facetime without wifi.  I believe it was called "mobile sharing"
I escalated to three different supervisors until there wasn't a higher one present. They commited to have someone call me back tomorrow. I asked that take this as a formal complaint. I also advised that I would be contacting the BBB as they have stepped over the bounds of ethichal behavior.

  • How much data is used when using facetime over 4g

How much data is used when using facetime over 4g. Say a 10 min call over facetime, will it use few MB or more.
    Thanks,
    Manish

It depends on how long you are on line.  What you could do is reset your data usage in settings/general/ usage and then start your FaceTime session and check usage after your session

  • TS3367 How can I activate facetime over cellular (at&t) on my new iPad?

I already downloaded and installed ios 6 to my new iPad. When I try to use facetime over my at&t plan, it says "activation required". Then I went to the at&t website, created at&t account, but I can not activate it. I tried to choose all account types to link them and activate, but it did not work. What should I do?

AT&T has made it such that Facetime over 3G requires a "combined" data plan, contact them for details.

  • Can you use facetime from cellular iPhone to wifi iPad Mini?

I've noticed I can connect from my iPhone 4S to an iPad Mini when we are both using wifi.
Howver, I cannot connect to the iPad when I am using cellular only (no wifi) on the iPhone (the iPad is wifi only).
I can connect to other iPhones when we both use cellular, so I know it's not an issue due to a carrier restriction of my cellular use (Verizon).
Is there an incompatiblity between using facetime from a cellular device to a wifi-only device? I would have though Apple would have a bridge between internet and cellular data for this.
    Thanks

This is copied from the Apple iOS features website.
*FaceTime video calling requires a FaceTime-enabled device for the caller and recipient and a Wi-Fi connection. FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability. Availability over a cellular network depends on carrier policies; data charges may apply.
Sometimes I find the "small print" to be even more confusing, but the way that I interpret this is that you have to go cellular to cellular. Cellular to WiFi doesn't work. It does seem to make sense, if you are sending the "message" or trying to connect over cellular, the person on the other end would need to pick up the "message" via cellular since it was sent that way by you.

  • FaceTime via cellular data

    Hello,
I struggled a month ago to set up FaceTime and iMessage, error after error...
Finally I completed the setup and it worked fine... for a day or two.
Still the FaceTime and iMessage is working but calling via cellular data was checked and now it is again off and I can't switch it on on my MacBook Pro.
I had this problem before and it's really annoying.
My MacBook Pro says to be logged in on both devices on the same iCloud and FaceTime but I am.
What do I have to do?
    Kind regards, Nils Hellemans

    Good Morning Nils Hellemans,
I just want to clarify, are the FaceTime and Messages apps working when using Wi-Fi from both your iPhone and your MacBook Pro?  If you are having issues with FaceTime using celluar data, try the troubleshooting steps in the resource below:
If you can't make or receive FaceTime calls - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-is/HT204168
If you're trying to use FaceTime over cellular, make sure Use Cellular Data is on for FaceTime. Go to Settings > Cellular > Use Celluar Data For, and tap the slider for FaceTime to turn it on. Also, find out if your carrier supports FaceTime over cellular.
Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure FaceTime is turned on.
If you see "Waiting for Activation," turn FaceTime off and then on again. Learn what to do if you can't activate FaceTime.
If you don't see the FaceTime setting, make sure that Camera and FaceTime aren't off in Settings > General > Restrictions.
Make sure that you have the correct phone number or email address listed.
Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
    Restart your device.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
You might have issues using FaceTime for one of these reasons:
FaceTime Audio or Video calling might not be available for all countries, regions, or carriers.
FaceTime isn't available or might not appear on devices purchased in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan.
Call forwarding isn't supported by FaceTime.
Phone calls end when switching to or answering a FaceTime call.
You can't switch from a FaceTime call to a voice call, or from a FaceTime Video call to a FaceTime Audio call.
    Regards,
    - Judy
