TS430 Removing SQL 2005 Instance
Hello,
Our TS430 came with an instance of SQL 2005. Our CRM application installs SQL Server Express but will work with 2005 through a custom installation. Is it advisable to run both 2005 and Express 'side-by-side' or should I remove 2005 entirely and use Express exclusively on the macjhine?
Best,
Christopher
Here is the summary Information
Connector IDBC
ConnectorType SQL
DatePrefix '
DateSuffix '
Description Illuminator test Database
Enabled true
InitCommand
InternalDateFormat yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss
JDBCDriver com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver

Upgrade Process from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012
Hi All,
I have gone thru multiple threads and would like to understand some steps in detail for me to upgrade SQL 2005 to SQL 2012.
Below is my understanding and questions around it, I would be setting up a new environment with OS 2007/2008 with SQL 2012:
Environment Readiness - Ensure new environment is ready with Win 2007/2008 with SQL 2012 Server
Run Upgrade Advisor on the new environment and point to SQL 2005 instance
Find the breaking/discontinued changes to be done before or After Upgrade
<Question>: Over here I would like to know what should be our approach to make the required changes
<Question>: Obviously I should not be making changes directly on the Production SQL 2005 server, then in that case should I take a backup/restore on the new SQL Server 2012 and then make the required changes to the database objects
like (Table schema(changing column names/datatypes etc.), Stored Procedure, Functions & Views)
<Question>: When I do a backup/restore I would also get the data along with it, so is this a recommended approach or should we only run/use the table schema creation scripts, fix the issues identified by UA and then do an Table to Table import,
any thoughts on this ?
<Question>: If I have to do a table to table Import then I should ensure there's a downtime during the Import or would I have any other better approach
So, basically my questions are around the approach of fixing the issues identified by UA and moving the database to SQL Server 2012 environment, I have around 300 databased to me upgraded.
Please do let me know what should be a good/proven approach ? Pl. do let me know if you would need any more details from me.
---UmeshThanks all for the replies.
I am trying summarize what I have understood here:
Document SQL Server 2005 environment details, Is there any tool which could give us all relevant details
I would take the backup from the SQL Server 2005 Production environment and then restore the same in a test environment which again has SQL Server 2005 and Run Upgrade Advisor on that
Probbaly run SQL Profiler as well to find out the deprecated changes to be done
I should fix all the breaking, discontinued changes on the Test system identified by UA
I should fix all the deprecated changes on the Test system identified by SQL Profiler
Steps 3 & 4 should give me the changed scripts for all database objects (i.e. Table Schema, Stored Procedures, Functions & Views)
<Question> Perform test, I understand this acitivity test can be captured by having SQL profiler running in the background on the SQL Server 2005 production environment where we can identify some days in a week or a month where maximum activity is
expected to ensure we cover most the scenarios, let me know is this approach looks fine or is there a better approach
Now, with regards to acutal upgrade I need to identify a time window where in less activity is done during which I could have a downtime for the actual SQL Server 2005 production environment
Post downtine, I should do a BackUp for all databases from SQL Server 2005 production environment
Test on environment readiness of SQL Server 2012 can be compared against the documentation done as part of the first Step
<Question> Ideally I should a restore first in the new environment which has SQL Server 2012
<Question> Then run the Scripted changes where we fixed all the breaking, discontinued & deprecated changes
<Question> Does above sequence of Step 9 & 10 make sense or is there a better approach of doing it
<Question> Post Upgrade and running of changed scripts, I should run the Upgrade Advisor again and see if everything looks fine
<Question> Perform test again which we ran on SQL Server 2005 Test environment
<Question> These steps should complete the Upgrade process.
Please do let me know if the above sequence look ok to all of you and does it really work in a practical scenario, do let me know your feedback or any change in sequence/process or any other tools that can be used here.
Thanks Again ... -
Hi,
I would like to have some input on SQL 2005 licensing. We are about to implement an ECC 6.0 MySAP landscape. How should we license the SQL 2005 instances? I searched the web and the notes but I'm not able to find a clear statement on this topic.
Thanks,
ReneHello Rene,
How you license your DBMS will depend on how you acquired the license for it. If you licensed the DBMS through SAP (common but not universal for SQL Server), then probably you should set the DBMS to "per-processor" licensing for as many CPU's are on the server. If you licensed it through Microsoft or a third-party, then you must follow the dictates of whatever you paid for. If you didn't license it "per-processor", then you must ensure you purchased enough "per-seat" licenses for all your SAP users, even though their connections will be pooled through the SAP application.

MS SQL 2005 clustered database instance.
Short Text
MS SQL cluster database instance - ONLY!
Long Text
Hi,
If possible could you please confirm that our planned landscape
migration is supported by SAP.
At present our PRD SAP system is a standalone instance that consists of
the database & central instance running on the same "HOST".
<u>Current SAP PRD version:</u>
ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 32 bit
MS SQL 2000 32 bit
both running on same host with OS Windows 2003 32 bit
We plan to upgrade/migrate our PRD SAP system to new 64 bit hardware
AND to move to a "Distributed" landscape installation i.e. database
instance & central instance installed on different HOSTS. Also, the
database instance WILL be clustered but the central instance will NOT
be clustered. There are also multiple NON-SAP MS SQL databases that
will run in the same cluster as the PRD SAP database instance.
<u>SAP PRD version after migration:</u>
SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 64bit (running on X86_64 AMD64 hardware) on HOST'X'
MS SQL 2005 64 bit (running on IA64 hardware) on clustered HOST'Y'
Both running on Windows 2003 64 bit
<u>My questions are:</u>
1) Does SAP support a clustered MS SQL 2005 database instance that is
running on a clustered HOST along with NON-SAP MS SQL databases?
2)During the migration our PRD SAP MS SQL database will be upgraded
from MS SQL 2000 32 bit to MS SQL 2005 64 bit IA64, is this also
supported in a clustered istallation (database instance ONLY)?
3) The central PRD SAP instance will be running on x86_64 AMD64
hardware & the database instance will be running on 64 bit IA64
hardware. Is this configuration supported?
Thanking you inadvance.Hi Greg,
Have you figured out the answer? We are trying do the exactly the same thing -- Move our SAP WAS 6.40 clustered central instance to a 64-bit hardware/SQL 2005/Clustered system. And this system has several non-SAP database on there. The biggest concern we have is whether SAP support this architecture. I posted a message here last year and several experts like Clas Hortien, N. P. C, in this form suggest NOT go to this architecture because SAP will not support it. One example, is that SAP/SQL requires server collation setting to SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 and other databases may work on different collations.
Migrate SAP SQL Server database to co-exist with others
Anyway, if you or anyone in this form have some more information please share here.
Thanks,

Removing udf in sql 2005 using sdk
Hi,
I am trying to delete a userdefined field thru SDK but it is not allowing me to do so in SQL Server 2005 database. The same code works in SQL Server 2000 database.
If oUserFieldsMD.GetByKey(TableName, FieldId) Then
lRetCode = oUserFieldsMD.Remove()
If lRetCode <> 0 Then
oCompany.GetLastError(lRetCode, sErrMsg)
End If
End If
The program execution stops/hangs at
lRetCode = oUserFieldsMD.Remove() line.
Do i need to do anything differently for SQL 2005?
Thanks,
Jayakumarhello Jayakumar,
Are you finding the record?
Check the error code on getbykey- remember it passes a boolean not an integer.
Make sure you have the correct field id.
Field id increments and does not decrement- I like to find the field id via a doquery and then pass it to the getbykey function.

ODI w/ SQL 2005 Target Instance
Does anyone have any experience or even know if ODI 10.1.3.5.4 supports named instances on SQL 2005?
We've tried
jdbc:sqlserver://servername.xxxxxx.yyy\dev:port;SelectMethod=cursor
but get login failed.
All of the errors show up in the logs of the default instance instead of the named one. I've even tried SQL JDBC drivers 1.2 and 2.0.try adding ;instanceName=xxxxxxxxxxx at the end.

Uninstalling Reporting Services 2005 instance
Hi,
I'm trying to uninstall an old instance of SQL 2005 Reporting Services (x86) on a WS2008 vm but for some reason the uninstall crashes.
I am using programs and features to uninstall the SQL 2005 Reporting Services named instance. I get a message saying 'setup is preparing to make the requested configuration changes' and the setup then closes without any warning or error message.
Has anyone else had similar problems and does anyone have any ideas how to remove this instance of RS? If it's any help the corresponding SQL instance has been uninstalled so maybe thats confusing the setup program?
Many Thanks,
PhilHi phil,
Both the Installation Wizard and command line setup can be used to remove or modify an existing installation. Refer to How to: Uninstall an Instance of Reporting Services:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143518(v=SQL.90).aspx.
In addition, I think you need to uninstall SQL Server 2005 manually. Follow steps:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967.
BUG: You cannot repair or uninstall SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services after you uninstall and then reinstall Internet Information Services 6.0:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910544.
Hope this helps.

SQL 2005 Setup on Win7 Ultimate [No SQL Services after installation]
Win 7 Ultimate (64bit)
4GB RAM
New installation of Win 7 Ultimate
Re-installation of SQL: Originally SQLExpress which didn't work out so I went to SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1 & updated to SQL2005 SP4. I installed Visual Studio 2005 during the SP1 installation. Actually, I installed all SQL2005 components
'just in case'.
I had attempted, unsuccessfully, to install SQLExpress so I uninstalled all SQLExpress components via Programs and Features, removed all SQL related directories and subdirectories in c:\Program Files (x86)\SQL.... and started the DVD setup.exe installation.
[I didn't do a RegEdit32!]
Uniquely, During installation of SQL2005, I wasn't asked for the SQL Product Key nor whether the mode was Windows or Mixed (I want Mixed Mode). Now, after rebooting with all MS updates (Win7 and SQL2005) I don't see any SQL services even though the
Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Backward compatibility and Books etc are listed as installed under Programs and Features. IIRC, I saw a message regarding ASP.Net for 64bit being installed but some issues on the 32bit not being installed (warning message).
So, how do I get the necessary SQL 2005 services installed and get SQL functional??? I'm open to a complete re-install if necessary. My original DVD is SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1, fyi.
THANKS!1) SQL Server Configuration Manager? Yes, I do under "Configuration Tools" When selecting this and going into SQL Server 2005 Services I get "There are no items to show in this view".
2) Exact SQL Server edition? From Help of SQL Server Configuration Manager: 2005.090.5000.00
3) Compact Edition installed? I used the SQL2005 SP1 Standard Edition DVD and then selected setup.exe. If you'd like for me to uninstall SQL and reinstall I will (including removing appropriate SQL Server directories). I'd remove the RegEdit
entries but I don't know where/what they are. [[Note!: See #4 below where under Server Type I see "SQL Server Compact Edition ... as well as Database Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Integration Services]
4) ??: Since I can't get into SQL Server Management Studio. I get "Cannot connect to XYZ02" "A network-related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible.
Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error:40- Could not open a connection to SQL server) (Microsoft SQL server, Error:2)" [Note: XYZ02 is the name
of the laptop and I used: Server Type: Database Engine; Server Name: XYZ02 (I had to enter as it wasn't listed); Authentication: Windows Authentication
So, suggestions... looks like I DO have Compact Edition? Thoughts?????
Thanks
BTW, I have another 64bit laptop (same mfr/model but with 8GB vs this 4GB under 64bit Win7 Ultimate) that runs SQL fine. Been running SQL 2005 on it for 3-4+ years. -
Hi,
We have a problem when we are trying to install SQL SP3 on SQL 2005 cluster.
The problem is described bellow:
We installed a new Windows 2008 R2 x64 failover cluster with two nodes.
As a next step we installed SQL 2005 Enterprise edition x64 on this failover cluster. We have finished the installation without problems. After SQL installation we are trying to install SQL SP3 . We have logged on using a domain administrator account and
we start the installation of SP3 with that user. In authentication mode screen the test gives a success status using either domain administrator-windows authentication or sa-sql authentication. On remote user account screen, when we give the domain
administrator account we get the message "the account information could not be verified. Press ok to return to authentication mode screen to determine the reason for failure".
We have tried to give the SQL services startup user on remote user account screen but the error is the same.
the domain administrator account exists on security logins of SQL with sysadmin rights.
Can someone help?
Thanks.Hi StelioMavro,
According to your error message, when you install SQL Server 2005 SP3 in your failover cluster, we need to verify if there was other instance that had been removed and the installation did not pass the login check. I recommend you use windows authentication
instead of SQL Server authentication when applying SP3. And the windows account used to run the SP3 setup program must have administrator privileges on the computer where SP3 will be installed.
For more information about how to install SQL Server 2005 SP3 in failover cluster, you can review the following article.

Error in Connecting to MS SQL 2005 via JDBC Driver
Here's the setup
CF MX7 resides on a centOS wid Apache 2.0 webserver box.
I need to established a datasource connection between the
Coldfusion server and a MSSQL 2005 Express+SP1 database sitting on
a remote XP wid SP2 setup.
I've also downloaded and installed on the /lib folder of the
CFMX7 server the corresponding JDBC drivers (versions 1.1 and 1.0)
for the MS SQL server.
The thing is, this problem always occurs:
Connection verification failed for data source:
datasourcename
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for
JDBC]Error establishing socket.
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing
socket.
The datasource connection info is as follows:
CF Datasource Name: datasourcename_JDBCdriver
JDBC URL:
jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.168.0.47:1433;DatabaseName=nameofdatabase
Driver Class: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
Driver Name: mssql2005
Username: sa
Password: userdefinedpassword
I've already tried these settings:
* Enabled mix mode of authentication under the SQL server
* Affix a /MSSQLSERVER instance name on the jdbc url setting
"jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://192.168.0.47\MSSQLSERVER:1433;DatabaseName=nameofdatabase"
but a different error had occured:
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]The requested instance
is either invalid or not running.
so i remove it since its only an optional setting
* Configured the SQL 2005 Express, under the SQL Server
Configuration Manager, to listen to protocol TCP/IP under port 1433
(this is the ONLY ENABLE protocol)
I've checked using Telnet and netstat and the SQL service is
normally listening to the said port.
* Disabled windows firewall under XP (came with SP2)
and even tried using other JDBC drivers such as:
* macromedia drivers
* jtds driver
but to no avail.
Is the problem still within the MS SQL 2005 Express wid
XP+SP2 box or a connecting issue on the Cf server under the
centOS/Apache machine?
A little help would do wonders just about now.I had the same problem, but do not have express version. In
the configuration manger, I viewed the properties of the enabled
tcp/ip protocol. On the IP addresses tab, I found that though the
IPs were enabled, the drop down beside active was no. I changed all
to yes, applied it and restarted my instance. Then in the cf
datasource I left the port blank and everything worked. -

Can any one give me a clue

SohailHi All,
This would solve your problem
First of all this error is <b>MSSQL error</b>.
When you perform an action on an instance of SQL Server that requires SQL Server to resolve the credentials of a Microsoft Windows NT domain user account, you may receive an error message that is similar
Server: Msg 8198, Level 16, State XX, Procedure <Stored Procedure Name>, Line <line Number>
Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user '<Domain\Account Name>'.
To resolve the credentials of a Windows NT domain user account, SQL Server uses the xp_logininfo system stored procedure. Here is a list of the common scenarios where you may notice that the xp_logininfo system stored procedure fails and causes the 8198 error.
When you use an xp_sendmail extended stored procedure.
When you set up replication.
When you run a SQL Server Agent job.
SQL Server may run the xp_logininfo system stored procedure to retrieve information about the Windows domains and the user accounts, even if the user does not do so explicitly. Therefore, if you receive an 8198 error message and the error message mentions the xp_logininfo system stored procedure as the procedure, you must use <b>SQL Profiler</b> to trace and to troubleshoot the exact point of failure.

SAP BPC 7 APPSet Restore SQL 2005
Hi Everyone,
I have SAP BPC 7 setup in a multi-server environment, and it's working well. I created a dev environment, installed SAP in the same fashion, and now when I try to restore an app set through server manager in dev, it keeps putting the SQL DB on C instead of where it should go on I:\ .
The original app set was using this same drive configuration, and that backup/restore works fine -
I've gotten this to work before, but I can't seem to get the restore to go somewhere else this time...
Any thoughts appreciated -
EdwardHi,
More testing today so let's share
There is 3 registry key in SQL Server 2005 :
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<Instance Name>\MSSQLServer\DefaultData
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<Instance Name>\MSSQLServer\DefaultLog
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\<Instance Name>\Setup\SQLDataRoot
Key #1 and key #2 are the one you configure in SQL server Manager and they correspond to the *.MDF directory and *.LDF directory.
Key #3 is the one you configure during SQL Server installation.
SAP Server manager will use key #3 when you restore an appset and also during the installation process of the ApShell.
Key #1 and Key #2 are used by BPC setup to create the AppServer database.
So to conclude : Even if you change Key #3 value in order to change the directory where you want to create your DB files, you will not be able to put *.MDF files on a different folder (directory) thant *.LDF files. Which means that after each AppSet restoration you will have to manually move at least the *.LDF or *.MDF file. I think this can be scripted with a T-SQL command... But you will have to do it.
On a side note, i tried to delete Key #3 (was hoping that it will use key #1 and #2) => This is not working. The AppSet restore will fail (in fact this is SQL Server who will throw an error).
Will ask my customer to open a case on SAP support, maybe it could be "fixed" one day. -
After, trying Mozilla 4 beta and then having to go back to a previous vs of Mozilla 3.6.11 my MS OLE DB Provider for SQL 2005 Server has this error message '80040E57' I am using Windows 7 which was pre-installed on my new computer. I do not know how to fix it?
The latest flash player release is 11,0,1,152.
Can you upgrade to this version and see whether the crash stil exists?
Go to get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download and install flash player.
In case you need direct link to installer/uninstaller, please go to http://forums.adobe.com/message/3952360#3952360 to find them.

My computer crashes repeatedly and I get the message pages are not responding do you want to stop, and/or shockwave is not responding do you want to stop. I have Windows XP Service Pack 3, I am having the same issues whether I use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox. My HP Pavilion Desktop has 504 MB of Ram and I am using high speed internet connection. Because it was crashing so much, I used the uninstall program for Flash player to uninstall Flash, I checked my registry and removed anything I saw that was Flash. I then uninstalled Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, then I reinstalled the most recent versions from their websites. I did the same for FlashPlayer and Shockwave Flash. I went to the Adobe website and had them check to see if it was working and it shows I have FlashPlayer 10.3.181.36. The page that shows which version of flash player goes with Windows XP states that I should have 10.3.181.34 (This is what I thought I had before I updated, I was having the same problems). When I went into my computer to see what version I have, it shows 11.5.9.620 Activex and both Flash Player and Flash Player Object is listed as 10.3.181.34. My firewall for Windows is set to medium. I also am running Norton Internet Security. It takes anywhere from 3-6minutes for some of my games to load, and I have to refresh at least 3-4 times in order to play. When I do start to play it freezes frequently and I use escape to free it up. This has been going on for a month. I have no idea what to do. I am not very computer savy and I have been learning as I go.
