Hello Everyone!
I got some problems with my software for data acquisition.
I got two signals and I have to show two signals at two different Waveform Graph.
How to seperate signals?

I read DAQmx help and what I know is that Each row corresponds to a channel in the task. Each column corresponds to a sample from each channel.
I really don't know how to wire Index Array... Can you explain it to me, please?
Look at the attachment, is it ok?

  • Two signals on two outputs with specific time interval

    I cant manage with following:
Have NI-6251 card. Trying to sent two step-signals on two outputs with
specific time interval, say 1 to 10 ms with 1us accuracy.
    How can I start?
    Thanks!

    Hi Anonymous,
What do you mean by step-signals?  Do you mean a signal that steps up the voltage over time, a step function signal that is zero until a certain time then goes to 1, or a pulse train?
In the meantime you can find examples for getting started in the NI Example Finder by selecting Help » Find Examples
When that opens you can limit the examples to ones that are compatible with your hardware.  In the bottom left corner select your hardware and check the Limit results to hardware box.
Browse to Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx » Digital Generation or Generating Digital Pulses.

  • Data acquisition and waveform graph plot

    Dear All
My signal is out put of current transformer which is 2v dc. I succesfully configure usb 1208fs with labview8.2. Now I want to plot my input signal on the waveform graph in frequency vs amplitude(db). Can any one guide me how can i plot my data?

    Hi,
Could you strip the VISA stuff and re-post your VI so I could run it and see where is the difference coming from. A few observations though
    1. Always try to wire from left to right and top to bottom so that your block diagram code is readable.
     2. A waveform graph gets completely redrawn everytime you give it soem data ao it is typically used outside any loops. If you want to display a waveform inside a loop, it is better to use waveform chart.

Now i have to, using a ring, make several operations with the signal: add, sub, divide, mult.  and show the result of the chosen operation in a new wavechart.
I've just done this because i'm not understanding how does the ring constant works...

  • How can I tell if signals from two devices are truly synchronised?

    Hi there,
How does one check that signals from two devices (two separate devices in a single X-series chassis) that should be synchronised actually are?   I am using a PXIe6361 and PXIe4331 on a PXIe-1073, with Labview 2001 SP1 64-bit. All devices are using the Sample Clock from the 4331 device, and an AI Start Trigger, so they should be synchronised.
I thought that writing the signal data to file and checking the time stamp for each column of data would be the most accurate, but I have been told that timestamps are software created and therefore don't reflect the actual time that the signals were acquired by the hardware.  When I do this, the timestamps vary by up to 150ms which is larger than I expected.
If I set the x-axis of the waveform graphs (on the GUI) to "Time" then it appears that the first data sample is taken at different times for the two plots (one plot per device).
If I set the x-axis of the waveform graphs (on the GUI) to "Ignore time stamp" (so that the x-axis just starts from 0 rather than a date-time) then the first data point occurs at "0" for both graphs. However, I'm not sure that this reflects the actual alignment of the signal.
What is the best way to check if signals collected on different devices in the same chassis are actually synchronised?
    Thanks,
    Claire.

    Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your help and for sending the demo.
I understand the concept of how the signals will look if they're not synchronised and your demo shows that nicely. I guess I have been perplexed by someone else telling me that the timestamps in the output file (and following from that I assume timestamps on a waveform graph) do not give an indication of whether signals are synchronised. The reason they gave for this was that the timestamps are manufactured by the software, not the DAQ hardware.  They suggested that I put the setting "ignore waveform timestamps" on my waveform graphs, and then check that both signals come in at the same time (i.e. both start at zero), but I'm not convinced about this.
When I use an analog trigger, neither the timestamps in my output file or on the two waveform graphs are synchronised. If I don't use the trigger, then there is far less disparity in the timestamps in the output file. I've attached two output files here, and my VI.
This is my first attempt to synchronise a voltage module and a strain gauge module on an X-series chassis, so I want to make sure that I'm achieving the best synchronisation that I can, and the difference in behaviour with and without the trigger worries me.
    Thanks,
    Claire.

  • Simultaneous signals into waveform graph

I am trying to use a VI to test multiple components' voltage inputs and outputs and I have developed the following VI.  The problem I am seeing is that when I operate two components, the DAQ assistant sends the two signals in series and my waveform graph doesn't plot the two signals simultaneously.  It appears that the graph flickers as it alternates between either of the signals.  Ideally I want to have about 4 components read by this VI, but I have not been satisfied with two yet.  Is there a better way to split these signals?  I have attached the VI, with my latest unsuccessful attempt to split the signal.  Ideally both readings would be going to the graph simultaneously, as different plots.

    Thanks for the response Dennis.
The first problem that I originally wrote about was that the readback from the DAQmx in my VI "flickers" between the two signals, indicating to me that perhaps the signals needed to split and re-merged.  Using the test function of the DAQmx task manager, the data flow smoothly and simultaneously, but in my VI there will always be, for instance, a changing y-axis in a chart if I set the two voltage signals to different values.  Meanwhile, numeric readbacks seem simultaneous, but that is harder to determine.
The second problem (tradition DAQ output and DAQmx input) stems from me reading a post when I first set up that my hardware does not support DAQmx.  It is a PXI-6704.  I checked this in the LabVIEW help files and this seems to have changed in later versions - although I have yet to make it work with only DAQmx.  Whether or not this is related to the first problem remains to be determined.  I have also posted a reply on the old post regarding incompatibility between the PXI6704 and the DAQmx to clarify what version they were using.

  • Acquiring two signals and saving at a Table

    Good Morning,
I'm new to LabVIEW, and I need help at a Data Acquisition. Let me explain it, so I hope you guys can help me.
I need a graph, and a Table displaying two signals acquired at a Field Point conection: Pressure and Temperature.
At this measurement, I need the VI to measure every five minutes, during one minute every measure.
And I need to save the signals to '.txt'.
I need the Table to save both signals, and a "cronometer', to keep in control of any existant difference in the signals, observing the exact time the signals changed, if it changes.
Sorry for the bad English, I'm an aprentice, using the User of the Area's Supervisor.

  • How can I get extract the data between two cursors on an XY graph

How can I get extract the data between two cursors on an XY graph

Well, you say xy graph, so this might be a more complicated problem.
For a waveform graph it's trivial. Simply get the two cursor indices (property: cursor index) and apply them to array subset of the data. Is that all you need?
Here's how the above code would look like. using cursor.index instead of cursor.x elimnates the need to include scaling information.
For an xy graph, there could be multiple segments (e.g. imagine a spiral that passes the desired x range multiple times from both sides). This would neeed significantly more code for a general solution.

  • NI 6602 measure quadrature encoder with two signal edge sepearation

Is it possible to improve the position measurement for X4 encoders,
that the measurement starts at start trigger and stops at the stop
trigger signal like the normal two signal edge seperation measurments.
Everything I tried don't works. Does anyone have an idea. Thank You
    for Your trouble.

    Hello Yong,
You have no wait time within your for loop.  This means that the loop will execute as fast as possible, but not at a constant rate.  To acheive a more constane rate, try inserting a Wait Time of 1 ms.  This will get you a loop with a 1 kHz rate.
How fast is your PWM Signal?  It may be that you are missing some two edge measurements while waiting for the loop to iterate.
I suggest merging your error clusters out of the DAQmx Read.vis.  Right now, you are just clearing out any errors.  Let me know if you start returning any errors once you have done this.

  • Can I generate a DSC alarm based on the difference of two signals?

In the Tag Configuration Editor of the DSC module, you can set lower and upper limits on any signal (tag). This works well if the signal is expected to always be within a certain range. However, if the signal is expected to vary according to a predefined pattern, how can I detect when it passes out of the expected pattern? - In my case the problem is made easier since I have two signals I can monitor: a setpoint and an actual. Therefore I can calculate the difference between setpoint and actual and set an alarm if the difference exceeds some maximum value. However, the DSC tag configuration editor does not allow these kind of "derived channels".
One possible solution is to run LabVIEW code to mon
itor these signals in real time, continually calculate the difference and generate an error if the difference exceeds the limit I have set. The problem is there does not seem to be a way to programmatically generate a DSC alarm.
Another possible solution, but requiring more work, is to create my own VI-based server to monitor the derived channels. Then there would be two servers running - logos to acquire the FieldPoint data- and my VI based server to calculate the derived channels in real time. My question is: Is there an easier way to do this?

    Hi Chris,
Go with your first proposed solution -- and write the result to a Discrete Memory tag. And set this tag to alarm on High. This will now act as your alarm tag.
    Hope this helps.

  • Better estimation of phase difference between two signals with variable frequency!

    Hello LabView Gurus,
Being a power engineer and having just a little knowledge of signal processing and labview, I have been pulling my hair out for the last couple of days to get a better estimation of phase difference between two signals.
We have two analog voltage signals; 1. sine wave (50Hz ± 1Hz) and 2. a square wave with exactly half of sine wave frequency at any time.
At the starting point of operation (and simulation/acquisition) both signals will have no phase difference. However, the square wave's frequency changes unpredictably for a just a few millisecond but then it gets synchronized with sine wave's frequency again. This means that the square wave will be phased out from its original position. The task of the labview is to find the phase difference between the two signals continuously.
My approach to determine the phase difference is to measure the time when sine wave crosses zero amplitude and the time when the very next square wave changes amplitude from zero volts to +ve voltage (I have a 0.5volts threshold just to avoid any dramas from small line noise). The difference between these times is then divided by the time period and multiplied by 360 to get this phase difference in angles.
As this part is just a small block of a big project, I can only allow 5000Hz sampling rate each for both signals. I read 500 samples (which means I read data from 5 cycles of sine wave and 2.5 cycles of square wave).
Now the problem is, as long as the frequency of sine wave stays constant at exactly 50Hz, I get a good estimation of the phase difference but when the frequency changes even a little (and it will happen in the real scenario i.e 50Hz ± 1Hz  and the square wave's frequency is dependent of sine wave's frequency), the estimation error increases.
I have attached my labview program. From front panel, you can set the phase of square wave (between -180 and 0) and you should see the labview's calculated phase in the indicator box named 'Phase'. Then you can press 'Real Frequency' switch that would cause the frequency to change like it would in real operation.
You can observe that the estimation error increases after you push the button.
All I need to do is to reduce this estimation error and make it as close to the actual phase difference as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am using LabView 2009 for this task.
The application is for electric machines and the stability/performance of machines under different faults.
Thank you for reading this far!

    Awais

Basic math gives me a bit of pause on this approach.  You are sampling at 50 times the frequency of interest so you get 50 samples per cycle.  your phase resolution is 1/50th cycle or 7.2 degrees +/- noise.  You will need to samlpe faster to reduce phase resolution or average multiple readings (at a time cost that is signifigant)
    Jeff- (Hardly Working)
I am sampling at 100 times the sine wave's frequency and 200 times the square wave's frequency.  Increasing the sampling rate completely solves my problem. But since I am acquiring several other inputs, I cannot afford a sampling rate higher than 5kHz.
    F. Schubert wrote:
I'm not a signal processing expert, but here my basic understanding.
If you simulate sampling with 5kHz and a frequency of 50 Hz (and both are 'sync' by design), you always get an exact 5 periods. Any variation of your signals frequency gives you a propability to get 4 or 6 'trigger' events. That's an up or down of 20%!
The one measure to reduce such problems is using 'window functions'. They don't fit your current approach (counting instead of a DSP algorithm), so this needs to be reworked as well.
My approach would be to use the concept of a Locki-In amplifier. You need to phaseshift your ref-signal by 90°. Then multiply your measurement signal with the ref signal and the phase shifted ref signal. The obtained values for x/y coordinates of a complex number. Calculate the theta of the complex number (with the LV prim). Feed this in a low pass filter.
The trick on this is, that the square wave has harmonics in it, in this you are interested in the second harmonic which is the sine wave.
To get rid of the effect that the sync between sampling rate and ref signal frequency gives an error, you then can use the window I mentioned above (place it before the lock-in).
For a design that really plays well, use a producer-consumer design pattern to get the calculations done in parallel with the DAQ.
I suggest you to check on wikipedia for some of the keywords I mentioned. Go also for the external links which lead to great tutorials and AppNotes on the signal processing basics.
Sorry, it's not a simple solution I offer and we will have quite some conversation on this forum if you follow this path. Maybe someone else knows a simpler way.

  • How do you add two separate treadlines to a graph

I created a scatter plot for my data. I have two different sets of data that I want to plot on the same graph. It has to do with the gain of water weight depending on the concentration of either sucrose or salt. I graphed both sets of data on the same graph but i need two different treadlines to see the differences in slope. Is there a way to get two different treadlines on this graph with the data i select or is there a way to superimpose graphs on each other so they are one?

    Emily,
You have to have the proper Table layout for this to work.
Numbers requires that the two different series be in different pairs of columns.
For instance, Series 1 could be: x-values in column A and y-values in column B, and Series 2 could be: x-values in column C and y-values in column D.
Otherwise, Numbers doesn't know how to keep the two series separate.
You build such a Chart by starting with only Series 1, then select Series 2 and drag it to the chart.
