UMI-7774 / PCI 7340 Disable Indicator Error

I'm using the UMI-7774 and PCI 7340.  All components are connected properly stated internally with MAX, but all AXIS are disabled apon power up.  I can't clear the disable AXIS 1-4. The Inhibit All and Interlock are not illuminated.   I have trited to Initilalize the controller with "Clear Power Up Status.flx" and "Initialize Controller.flx". Yet every try and repower I cannot un disable all 4 AXIS. 
Does anyone can help this issue, I have hit a wall??

Thanks for contacting NI.  I've looked into your problem and just wanted to confirm that you are calling the PU Reset.flx the same way that I am.  I rebooted my card so that it is in Power Up Reset state and then ran the attached screenshot and received no errors and the move went ok.
Are you able to initialize the board in MAX even?  If you are unable to clear the PU Reset status at all, then there may be something else going on, but if you can clear it in MAX and then your program works fine, then this screenshot that I'm attaching to this post should work out for you.  Let me know how it goes.

  • Axis Disabled LED on UMI not Lit when disabling the Axis in MAX

    Hello,
    I'm using MAX to disabling Axis, Axis2, Axis3 of PCI-7344 and UMI7774,
    I click save and "initilize" in MAX, i get message "OK".
    The DISABLED LED of the Axis1 - Axis4 on the e UMI is not Lit,
    i also notice that in MAX under Motion IO setting, the "inhibit input setting" is grayed.
    i found a post of someone with same problem, he said that he 'enabled the inhibit input in MAX' and this solved the problem.
    but its grayed un my MAX...

    in this article, its ok that it is grayed cause its only used on pci7390...
    But he has same hardware as i have... So, what is going here? how can i solve this?
    When i'm looking in MAX on "1D interactive" i found that when i change the state of the Limits, its shown in max
    "limit switch is active" "home switch is active"...  
    The control connector of Axis 1 (the axis i want to work with) is working fine i think..
    for example: i test the voltage on pin 3 :  5V as should be.
    the UMI connected to V and C 24VDC power supply, and  the Viso,Ciso connected to different power supply.
    (V and Viso LED of the UMI is On , ALL other LED is Off.....)
    Any help is appriciated, i want to start from begining to troubleshoot what is wrong,
    i think that before any wiring is made to the Axis control and feedback connector, the Axis that is disabled in MAX should have their DISABLED Led on the UMI on.
    The pci-7344 connected to the UMI-7774 with SHC68-C68-S cable.

    actually i didnt do anything about tuning the servo because i read here in some post in the forum,
    that when i set the servo to "P-command" i dont need to set something in the servo tune in MAX...
    its probably not right...

    I'm using Yaskawa servo motor with Sigma FSP servo drive, i put it in Position command mode.
    please see the attached image with all the setting in MAX (if you open it in microsoft paint, you can scroll it down like word document..)
    Hereunder more details about the problem:
    1.  when i'm using 1d interactive for simple move, the servo is run well, no problems,
          the count is ok, the servo stop exactly in the position he should be.
         This is true as long as the velocity is  1125rpm or under.
         The problem:  when i set it to 1150rpm and click start, the servo is rotate and imidiatelly stop, its looks like the servo got cough,
         there is some delay of some miliseconds and it rotate again for few steps and stops.
         when i'm looking at 1D interactive- Misc. Plot, i see the velocity is 1/4 of the velocity i set to this move.
         if i set the velocity to 1000rpm, the servo is run at 250rpm...
          its something with ratio of 1/4..   So, i think that its encoder problem, or something wrong in the setting
          cause i set the "Stepper steps per revolution"  = 8192 and "Stepper counts per revolution"  = 8192 also,
          where i know that it should be :
           "Stepper steps per revolution"  = 2048 and "Stepper counts per revolution"  = 8192
           But if i set it like this, the servo is never go to the position i command him.
    2. About the "Servo -On" signal, attached the servo drive wiring, the servo on is a signal that anable the drive,
        when the servo on is activated the led screen on the servo drive displays "run" and the shaft has holding torque.
        The problem here is not with the servo on signal, that works fine, as you can see in the attached image, the servo on is activated using a relay, so for now i'm activatig it manually, when i want to start move in MAX, i turn on the "servo on" signal,
    the servo drive is on, display the "run" and ready to recieve the "step","dir" commands, and it works.
     The problem that the Axis/Enable signal in the UMI7774 need to activate the relay that activate this "Servo on" signal,
    and currently the Axis/Enable signal is always ON, even when i press "Kill" in MAX the Enable signal is still ON and never changes to off,
    that is why i can activate the "servo on" signal using the Enable signal on the axis.
    I'm using:  Widows XP proffesional sp3, LabVIEW 8.6 , MAX 4.5, NI-Motion 7.7, Motion assist 2.3,
     PCI -7344, UMI-7774,  Yaskawa servo motor and Servo Drive Sigma FSP,

  • Connecting Parker Compax3 servo drive to umi-7774, and PCI-7340

    Im very new to NI motion control products, and was wondering if anyone knew of the specific details for connecting a Parker Compax3 servo drive to the UMI-7774 and motion controller PCI-7340.  Any connection diagrams and software set-up would be very helpful

  • Connecting Yaskawa Sigma II Servo Drive (SGDH) to PCI-7344 and UMI-7774

    Hi,
    I have  NI PCI-7344 and UMI-7774 and i want to
    Connect the UMI-7774 to Yaskawa Sigma II Servo Drive (SGDH) , the servo motor drive is connected to the servo motor with original Yaskawa cables.
    1.  do you know if National instruments provide special cables to connect the UMI-7774 to the Yaskawa Sigma II Servo Drive (SGDH) ?
         i know there is special cable to connect this servo drive to the NI PCI-7390

        (you can find in this link that this cable exist: 50 Pin cable for connecting MCA-7790Y to Yaskawa Sigma II Servo Amplifier)
         but this is not the case here, i need to connect the Servo Drive to the UMI-7774..
     2. Where can i find a tutorial on how to configure the PCI-7344 in MAX to send simple commands to the Servo Drive
          i.e.  to run the servo motor from position A to position B (10,000 encoder pulses)

    Hi MotiM,
    We do not have a cable that will let you directly connect the UMI-7774 to a Yaskawa Drive.  We do sell cables that will have the Dsub connector to match the UMI-7774 with pigtails to wire to the drive.  If you take a look at the product page for the UMI-7774 you can see the different cables listed under the accessories.
    To perform a simple move in Measurement and Automation (MAX) is very simple.  In MAX under NI-Motion select your PCI-7344. Under this section select the settings option (by default it will be called Default 7340 settings).  Select the Servo radio button.  Initialize your controller.  Then you can select Interactive and 1-D Interactive and command your motor from there.  I have attached an image with the important areas highlighted for you.

  • How to add PCI 7340 and UMI in my labview program from functions palette or how?

    Am using PCI 7340 and UMI7764 for motion control of a stepper motor.
    How to add the functions for PCI and UMI in my labVIEW program and how
    do I use these further? I need to control the direction of stepper
    motor rotation based on the pressure applied which we calculate as
    either clock.anti clockwise. So which function palette should I use for
    that.
    We use a darlington pair driver unit. ? The output
    from UMI are from the individual axis control whereas the driver input
    is through a serial bus. So what kind of cable should we use to connect
    the UMI with this and how do we connect this or should we use any other
    driver unit? Please explain in detail.

  • Connecting Yaskawa Sigma FSP Motor Drive With UMI-7774 and PCI-7344

    Hi,
    i have PCI-7344 and UMI-7774  that i want to connect to this Servo motor drive of Yaskawa.
    1)  How do i know if this motor drive is compatible with the pci-7344 and umi7774 ?
         for example:  inside the UMI manual is written that the Motor drive must support "Sinusoidal Commutation"
         i look indside the Motor Drive manual and i dont found anything about this.

    i'm enginner in my education, but not in this area (i'm information systems eng.)
    i decided that i need to learn more about it (ni-imaq, ni-motion, line-scan camera, servo, servo drives, encoder signals, motion i/o, umi, pci7344, etc..)
    So, i download the manual and help files that is needed to my application i want to build
    (high speed machine vision of color line-scan camera connected to motion with rtsi synchronization and also digital i/o)
    and now i'm reading ALL this, its huge amount to read, and not all the thing i understand in the begining (english is not my lang..)

  • Connecting NI-7358 and UMI-7774 to a sinusoidal commutatio​n driver

    Hello,
    I'm using NI-7358 PCI motion control card and UMI-7774 to drive a brushless servo motor driver Advanced Motion Controls S16A8 External Sine Commutation driver. (It doesn't have isolated ground.)
    It's inhibit input like below:
                                    ^ 5V

    UMI's inhibit output is connected the drivers inhibit input directly. But there is something wrong with this connection. Control card's inhibit output always stays energized so that driver always stays disabled. (When inhibit input is connected to ground directly it's working properly)
    When inhibit signal is active (axis is killed) UMI's inhibit output is 3.5V.
    When inhibit is deactived (axis is started) UMI's inhibit output is 4.9V.
    NI7358 inhibit is configured active low
    UMI 7774 is configured active low
    Driver is configured as active low.
    I tried both open collector and totem pole configurations of NI7358. Results were the same.
    Could you help me please.

    When the inhibit line is connected to drive directly, it's enable led is always red (it means disable) since it configured as active low. When I change its polarity to active high it always indicates green (enabled) whether the UMI's inhibit line is low or high.
    When inhibit signal is active (axis is killed) UMI's inhibit output is 3.5V.  When inhibit is deactived (axis is started) UMI's inhibit output is 4.9V.

    Drive is always green or red according to drive's inhibit polarity.

  • Umi-7774 power is not working ( request help urgently)

    I have a umi-7774 and a pci-7340 controller, and they were working well, but suddenly when i try to turn on the umi-7774 again, the isolation power led was illuminated but the power led itself didn't illuminate, it only illuminate at the first contact of power supply, so i hope you can help me solve this problem as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your reply, even it is late but anyway thank you, the problem was in my battery that supply power to UMI, since i go to the supplier office here, and the engineer there powers the UMI by a power supply with him, and the umi works properely, but what confuse me that when i measure the voltage out from my battery the voltage was 24V, and the current also was high, so i donnot know what is the problen with my battery

  • UMI-7774 Axis1 Inhibit input/output (and Fault +/-) to corresponding Servo Drive signals

    I have servo drive (yaskawa sigma fsp) that i configured to work in Position command mode,
    And i want to connect it to UMI-7774 with PCI-7344 also configured in MAX to work in P-Command mode.
    The Servo drive has these signals:
    /S-ON    (Servo ON input)
    ALM+    (Servo alarm output)
    ALM      (Servo alarm output)
    The UMI-7774 on its Control Connector of Axis1 has these signals:
    Enable
    Fault+
    Fault-
    i read the umi7774 manual and also the servo drive manual, and didnt understand all the things because
    the umi7774 manual named the signals Inhibit-input, inhibit-output
    but there is no signals in this name on the UMI-7774/Axis1/Control Connector.  
    So, i think the wiring i need to make is :

  • Using the ENABLE output of the UMI-7774

    I have a motion control system using the NI-7354 4-Axis controller, and the UMI-7774 interface. I am trying to use the ENABLE line for each axis to manually enable and reset the drive for each axis. I am using NI-Motion calls in Visual Basic to do so. I have setup the outputs using the following function call for each axis:
    miStatus = flex_config_inhibit_output(b7354MotionCtrlBoardID, AxisNum, DISABLED, NON_INVERTING, NIMC_OPEN_COLLECTOR)
    and I toggle the ENABLE lines using the following command:
    miStatus = flex_set_inhibit_output_momo(b7354MotionCtrlBoardID, iMustOnMask, iMustOffMask)
    I can successfully toggle the DISABLED LED on the UMI-7774 for each channel, but I am unable to see an output difference at pin 6 to control the drive enable line.
    Viso has 24Volts connected
    Ciso has 24V return connected
    The ENABLED dip switches are set to ACTIVE HIGH for each axis
    I've tried using Inverting and non-inverting polarity and setting the dip switches to ACTIVE LOW and I am unable to see any difference at pin 6 when I toggle the ENABLED line on and off.
    any suggestions?

    Hi GregH,
    The best way to solve this problem is to first find out, whether the card is faulty or the umi is faulty. The method is as follows.
    Take a blank PCB and connect 68 connectors to it. Get a 68 pin connector crimped to a 68 core cable at one end that fits into the PC. The other end of the cable has loose wires. Now assign ferul numbers to each cable from 1 to 68 and connect each of these to the connectors in the PCB. Now check the voltage levels at which ever pins you want. If you see a voltage, then you can replace your UMI and if you dont, then you can replace your card. I've tried this when my ADC on the motion controller was not working and found that the card was faulty. Be careful before trying it. I tried this under the guidance of a motion control expert. If you are not sure then you can send it to NI for checking or contact a field engineer in your location.

    Dear community,
    This is about Motion control in Labview: I try to control a step motor by using a PXI 7350 controller and UMI 7774 to interface with  third-party driver UDK5114NW2. The problem is 5 Disable LEDS on UMI 7774 board always lit even when I check "enable" on "Motion I/O setting" in configuration of PXI 7350 motion controller. Furthermore, when I start to control step motor, it is not working and I found disable LED on UMI board still lit. I don't know how to solve this problem. Can someone help me to figure out?   • Umi 7774 required for ni drives?

    i am designing a motion control system using 3 stepper motors (ni Nema 23) and correspondingly 3 ni P70360 drives. Is a umi 7774 required to connect these to the 4 axes pci motion controller card?  (i'm confused as its description on the ni site says that it is required for 3rd party drives BUT in the discussions i've read a lot of people have used umi 7774 with ni drives )

    Yes, you will need to purchase and use our Universal Motion Interface (UMI) 7774 board in order to connect the three drives/motors to the motion controller card. 
    It may have been confusing because we do explicitly say that it is required for 3rd party drives, but not necessarily required for our drives. Having said that, the vast majority of customers use the UMI board because it eliminates the need for custom cables, and makes it far easier to connect to more than one axis.

  • Does UMI-7774 need power source?

    This may seem like an obvious question, but I need to ask it anyway:
    I am using the PCI-7334 and UMI-7774 to control my E-DC drive and step motor. Does the UMI needs any power? For now, the UMI is plugged to the PCI-7334 and the step motor and power source are plugged to the E-DC drive which is plugged to the UMI.

    A regulated power supply will hold its rated voltage.  An unregulated one will not.  Stepper drives typically don't get along with regulated power supplies because at start up there is a larger current draw.  The power supply may think this is a short-circuit and either foldback or trip.  Regulated supplies are also more expensive.

  • UMI - 7774 connectng to servo drive problems

    Hi, I am using a UMI 7774 motion interface to control a Parker Servo drive (AR-08SE).  The Servo Drive requires a differential input for the step and direction signals so I followed this wiring diagram. (http://www.parkermotion.com/scripts/support_faq.asp?rowid=AAAH0UAAKAABvpjAAD&count=1&random_number=1...)  I am using MAX to operate the system but I can not get the servo motor to operate.  It has holding torque but will not turn when I command it to.  I get a "motor off (axis is killed)" and "following error occured" message.  Am I missing something in the software setup?  Or is it a wiring issue?

    This could be a wiring issue (e. g. interchanged encoder phases), but there are also other potential reasons. Please refer to this document in the NI knowledge base for further troubleshooting information.

    I have to wire umi 7774 and PXI 7350 , when I wire V and Viso and motion I/O cable to UMI , all axes are disabled , and FAULT , DISABLED leds are ON.
    Is it normal??

    I'm using the UMI-7774 but the system does not work properly. My doubts are:
    * My encoder does not have Channel A- (inv), channel B-(inv) and index- (inv). So I make a circuit to invert the channels A, B and Index with a CI-7404, converting the single-ended output to differential. Does it really works or only differential encoders are avaiable with UMI-7774?
    * I connected the hall sensors A,B and C of the brushless motor at the feedback connector like show the Figure 3.12 of the UMI-7774 user manual. But my third-party drive also need to connect the hall sensors (a fault happend if it does not done). What should I do? Do i have to connect hall sensors at feedback connector and also third-party drive?
    * What does Active low and active high means? When I have to change the LIMIT LED, FAULT and ENABLE to active high?
