Uninstall lion

HI,
I have installed Lion (rather thoughtlessly) and find several issues with software compatability, which mean I would like to revert to SL for the time being. Foolishly I did not perform a Time Machine back up prior to installing Lion (I know - I must be "loosing" it in my advancing years.) Also I am fairly new to Mac's so some "obvious" solutions may not be apparent to me. I have read several articles regarding performing a clean install of SL or partioning a HD. But I'm wondering if an alternative option might exist for me.
My Mac Pro has TWO HD's.
HD -1, (1TB) has my OS 10.7.2 (partioned to run boot camp at 80 gb) - I use this HD for everything and transfer any files I want to back up to HD-2 so essentially HD-2 is a "clean" storage drive.
HD-2  (2TB) is used only for back up of files etc. (How I came by this monster is another story).
At some point in the future no doubt Lion compatability issues with my music production software and hardware will be resolved so I'm wondering about leaving HD-1 alone for now and simply installing Snow Leopard from my original disk onto HD-2 and from there run my production programmes. Is the feasible and what issues might arise? (How would I select the HD to boot at start up for instance? Would I have to re-install at the programmes on HD-2?).
Any help, suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.

1. Yes. You may want to turn off Spotlight indexing from one OS.
2. Press the Option key at startup, or use the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
3. Programs with system components will need to be reinstalled. Those which don't can be used from their current locations, but you'll need to transfer over the preferences manually or reenter them.

Question. I  am running 10.6.8. on my macbook and wrongly/inadvertently downloaded Lion Safari rather than an update to my trusty browser system. How do I uninstall Lion which seems to have overwritten. 'scrubbed' my faithful friend leaving me bereft -  hence this plea sent via my Imac.

  • My mac keeps freezing...How can I uninstall lion?

My mac keeps freezing on me, particularly when Im on safari. The most annoying part is that it happens three or four times in a matter of an hour, and then Im prompted to submit a report that feels like a joke considering that we have yet to see an update for lion solving this issue, and the problem persists. How can I uninstall lion and get macs previous iOS back?

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • How to uninstall lion

Is there anything official from APPLE on how to uninstall LION ?  My Macbook shuts down if I try startup from a Snow Leapard disc.  Can I just drag the entire image from my iMAC to an erased Macbook ?

Thanks for the info.  Here's what I did by copying my iMAC image (SL) onto my Lionized Laptop:  Connected firewire from my Laptop to my 27 inch iMAC, put the laptop in Target Disk Mode (Startup Disk System Preferences), booted the iMAC and used Disk Utility to ERASE and Restore the Laptop with my iMAC image.

To add to Frank's post .... Or you can boot from the install disks that came with your system, use Disk Utilities to erase the Lion volume and reinstall your prior OS. This assumes you want to remove Lion completely. Back up your system prior to doing this.

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
From there you can reformat or erase the Disk

You can uninstall Lion by using the upgrade Snow Leopard disc or original OSX Install disc that came with your system. Remember to do a clean install (Erase the disk) of the older OS as you will be installing an earlier version of Mac OS X.
EDIT: To reinstall an older version of OSX just do the following:
    Shut Down your Mac.
Push the power button to turn it back on.
    Hold the "option" key.
Insert your earlier OSX install disc.
The disc should appear on the screen, select it using the keyboard arrow keys.
Once the disc is selected hit the "Return" key.
    The disc should load.

  • Pondini - Uninstall Lion back to SL Time Machine

    Hello,
I'm probably asking this directly to Pondini, but any help gratefully accepted -
I am trying to follow Pondini's instruction on Time Machine FAQ n˚14 to uninstall Lion back to SL from a Time Machine back up using my orignal SL install disc.
When the disc window comes up and I click on Install I get this message (word for word - it's not good english and doesn't make sense to me) :
You can't install this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X
You have install Mac OS X 23.1.
I don't know where to go from here.  I've also tried restarting holding down the 'C' key as per the instructions but only get a blank screen.
Help ! I'd really like to uninstall Lion.

I had tried a few times and kept getting the same message.  I couldn't tell you now 'how' I got there but I think I was in System Preferences, or maybe Apps, and came in 'through a back door' as it were.  I am not at all techy but I did it ! lol  I also managed to restore from Time Machine the new iPhoto that I paid for whilst I was on Lion - now that did impress me ROFLAO
    I'm a happy bunny now

You can also use the OS X Lion installer from the Mac App Store to create an external bootable drive, complete with a Recovery HD partition. See this article for more details. This approach will, at least, create a bootable drive with Recovery HD which you can carry with you in case you need to use Internet Restore or make use of the other utilities Recovery HD provides.
