Unit cpupower.service entered failed state

I've installed linux-rt (3.10.18-rt14-1-rt) with the intention of setting it up for pro-audio work. My cpu is a Core2 Quad.
I'm trying to set the cpu frequency to performance on start up, but it fails.
I installed cpupower and edited /etc/default/cpupower:
# Define CPUs governor
# valid governors: ondemand, performance, powersave, conservative, userspace.
governor='performance'
# Limit frequency range
# Valid suffixes: Hz, kHz (default), MHz, GHz, THz
min_freq="2.00GHz"
max_freq="2.50Hz"
I ran systemctl enable cpupower.service
But after reboot I get:
[tony@hydra ~]$ systemctl status cpupower.service
cpupower.service - Apply cpupower configuration
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/cpupower.service; enabled)

Any ideas on where to go from here to get this working?

No.

  • SCOM: Service entered unpredictable state

    "The Orchestrator Run Program Service service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly."
    We are seeing these alerts pop up in SCOM. It isn't a huge deal, more of an annoyance. I'm wondering if anyone can give advice or a best practice on how to react to it.
    I put in an override to downgrade the alert severity from critical to warning because the server owners weren't interested in notifications. And everything is working properly, but I am thinking of how to avoid any future issues that may occur as well as
    just having one less alert in the console.

    I have read that some people are disabling this rule and creating a similar rule that only alerts on specific services. But I was thinking about just giving the Orchestrator service account the "Act as part of the operating system" right in group
    policy. Obviously there are security concerns. so maybe just on a case by case basis instead of for the entire environment.
    Any advice is welcome.

    Hi Pete,
    We had the same, the error is connected to service settings, please look here how to fix:

  • T500 Unattended Wake from Standby - Windows Image Acquisition Service entered running state

    I haven't been able to figure out what is waking up my computer while I am away..  After I standby or hibernate then come back the next day, it is always running again.
    I'm running XPsp3 on my T500 in a home network environment.
    Tonight I stayed up with it, and it woke up at around 1:59.  I see in the System Event Viewer this event was logged, "The Windows Image Acquisition Service entered the running state".
    What is causing this service to start and wake up the computer?
    Since this is imaging related, I mention one other thing that I have noticed, that occasionally on startup the built in webcam light will stay on, only going off when I start it and stop it again.
    Message Edited by willy2 on 08-03-2009 11:13 PM

    If you are running XP MCE (Media Center Edition), it's likely that there is a scheduled MCE task that is waking your system every night.   When I was running MCE on my former desktop, the system came out of hibernation (as well as standby) in the wee hours every morning.   As I recall disabling the ehrecvr process prevented the behavior (though this has other affects on MCE); there may be a way in XP's task scheduler to find the MCE task and change it to not run if the system is in standby (I'm a little fuzzy on that since I later switched to Vista MCE, and the task is visible there).
    Searching on 'MCE wakes up computer from standby' in Google will show lots of similar complaints.

  • [SOLVED] systemd swap related service in failed state

    Hi. When I ran systemctl to check my services, there was a failed one related to swap.
    Output of systemctl --failed:

    What: /dev/disk/byx2duuid/7a53052dx2df673x2d40c9x2d8b21x2d1d5d87127479
    However, in the systemctl output there was another service which was active:
    dev-sda6.swap loaded active active Swap Partition
    And this is basically the same partition. In the output of blkid:
    /dev/sda6: UUID="7a53052d-f673-40c9-8b21-1d5d87127479" TYPE="swap" PARTUUID="00c618fd-9807-4fef-89dd-28e0a79192a9"
    As you can see the UUID of /dev/sda6 matches the one of the failing service. Here is the /etc/fstab entry for this partition:
    UUID=7a53052d-f673-40c9-8b21-1d5d87127479 none swap defaults 0 0
    So there are two services related to this partition, one that is active and one that is failed. I don't understand why and I don't know how to fix this. Any explanations and help will be greatly appreciated!

    I commented the swap line in /etc/fstab, and now I don't have the failed service. I also still have the dev-sda6.swap service active. So it looks good?
    However, when booting, I saw a line looking like this:
    Expecting device 7a53052d\x2df673\x2d40c9\x2d8b21\x2d1d5d87127479
    (It's maybe not exactly written like that, the boot is too fast for me to catch the text accurately.)
    It seems like it's partly fixed in any case. Thanks.

  • Cisco 3560 service module failed state

    Hi Expert,
    My office has a Cisco 2911 ISR router, we installed a 3560 service module 16P on it.
    But I use command "sh ip int bri" in 2911 router when we finished installation.

    Hi Krishnendu,
    I understand what you mean, I have done this work for assign Gi 1/0 an IP address, and then using command "service-module gi 1/0 session" to enter the service-module to configure it at all.
    But I just want to know what is the Gi1/1 interface used for?
    I use command "sh cdp nei" on others 2911 ISR + 3560 service module, all of the has the Gi 1/1 interface, and 2911 router using Gi 1/1 interface connected service module Gi 0/17. And Gi 1/1, Gi 0/17 is configured with "trunk interface".
    I'm wondering whether my 2911 router Gi 1/1 has some physics error? or maybe it has another command to to "OPEN" the Gi 1/1 on 2911?

  • Requests enter "failed" state without initiating approval

    Hi there. Our OIM 11g BP4 installation started having problem with requests. Some of them simply fail, and failing frequency is increasing.
    For all failed request the error message is the same:
    IAM-2050014:An error occurred while initiating approvals for request oracle.iam.request.exception.ApprovalServiceException: oracle.iam.request.exception.ApprovalPolicyAccessDeniedException: User oiminternal does not have access to SEARCH entity of type APPROVAL_POLICY.. The corresponding error message is {1}.
    Two peculiar things are worth noting:
    - the better part of those requests share the same template and are set to be auto-approved, via a proper approval policy;
    - failed and completed requests are intermixed, i.e. after a failed request there can be a completed request a moment later, or the other way around. That excludes a permission problem like the error message seems to suggest, IMHO.
    A real-life example taken right from our installation:
    1852 Provision Resource Request Completed
    1853 Provision Resource Request Failed
    1854 Provision Resource Request Failed
    1855 Provision Resource Request Completed
    1856 Provision Resource Request Completed
    1857 Provision Resource Request Failed
    1858 Provision Resource Request Failed
    All those request share the same request template and the same approval policy (which, as stated, is set to auto-approve the request).
    It looks like SOA approval is not even started, so this behaviour should not be related to SOA.
    Any hint of where to look to find the reason for these fails? It is a production environment and this behaviour is starting to become a serious problem.
    Thanks,
    Rpatri

    You mean patch 14036801.
    Yes, that was probably the solution: after applying the patch there have not been failed request.
    Thanks.

    Jul 08 00:00:01 raspberry_pi pwck[11736]: pwck: no changes
    The passwd entry for this user is
    ~ $ cat /etc/passwd
    remote:x:1001:100::/home/remote:/bin/nologin
    I guess this explains why pwck is complaining and causing shadow.service to fail. However, this user was created a long time ago, explicitly without a home directory, so I am not sure why a home path is specified in the passwd file. I also feel certain that this error is relatively new.
    So, using the following command I created a test user without a home directory so that I could at least see what a passwd line for a user without a home directory is supposed to look like, but to my surprise a home path was specified in the passwd file and pwck complained about the new user in the same way.
    ~ $ sudo useradd -M -g users -s /bin/bash testuser
    ~ $ cat /etc/passwd
    testuser:x:1002:100::/home/testuser:/bin/bash
    ~ $ sudo pwck -r
    user 'remote': directory '/home/remote' does not exist
    user 'testuser': directory '/home/testuser' does not exist
    pwck: no changes
    I also created a throwaway user on my x86 notebook to see if this happens, and it does, so this does not appear to be related to the architecture.
    Is there anything I could do short of creating a home directory for this user, or does this look like a bug?

    Hope it's not too late to answer this.
    Changing the home directory to /dev/null seems to have solved the issue for me.
    Still don't know what negative effects that might have for me, but shadow.service runs normally as far as I can tell.
    Edit:
    Performing
    userdel -r <user>
    throws
    userdel: /dev/null not owned by <user>, not removing
    , so setting /dev/null as the home directory is relatively "safe"

    I thought i haven't colord installed, but a quick
    pacman -Q colord
    colord 0.1.21-2
    told me  i'm wrong.
    So, why is this service static, and why i get this strange error?
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance!

    The error appears to be from within systemd, when it tries to spawn colord-sane. I.e., probably nothing is wrong with sane itself. My guess is that this has something to do with your network setup, as colord-sane has PrivateNetwork=yes (i.e., systemd should block colord from accessing the network). I have colord-sane on my system too, and I'm not able to reproduce this error, so sorry that I cannot be more helpful.
    As to disabling colord-sane: you can mask the service:
    # systemctl mask colord-sane.service
    This means that when dbus tries to start colord-sane, it will just fail. Obviously, that means that cups might not be very happy, I don't know how graciously it handles this situation.

    Some idea ?

    Hello,
    Has anything been found out about this?  We're running into the same issue except that it's logging every 30 seconds.
    Here's some info from the machines and when it's occurring:
    It only occurs when someone is connected to the machine through Remote Desktop.
    The machines are Amazon EC2 instances.
    Seems to only happen on machines that are connecting to RODC's.
    Machines have limited connection to RODC's through security groups (machine based firewalls).
    They are Windows Server 2012 instances, small and medium instance types.  (See instance type details here:  http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/instance-details/)
    Little or no extra software installed.  These were spun up from a basic WS2012 image and it started occurring shortly after.  There are other machines launched from the same image that do not have this issue.
    There are also some other machines connecting to the same RODC's with the same security group (firewall) settings that are not experiencing this issue.
    We are just using the standard Remote Desktop, not the 2012 Remote Desktop Services.  We have tried to install this but the install always fails.  See: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/3ab983ce-9290-49ec-81e6-a3adf34cb8b2/remote-desktop-services-failed-on-windows-2012-server-amazon-vpc-ec2
    The machines (the ones having this issue as well as the ones that do not have it) all have the exact same Windows updates installed.
    Here is the detail of the event:
    NOTE: Every 30 seconds it logs this exact message - entered the RUNNING state.  I do not see other messages stating it entered the Stopped state.

  • Windows service entered the stopped state

    hello,
    my windows service running on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 stopps two or three times per month undefined with the Event ID 7036 : service entered the stopped state. 10 mins later it starts again alone: service entered the running state.
    What I also see is that some other services enter in the stopped state and then enter the running state: with Event ID 7036, but more frequently, means several times per day:
    SoftwareProtectionService
    WindowsModuleInstaller
    ApplicationExperience
    WMI Performance Adapter
    Portable Device Enumerator Service
    What is the problem here, I could not find any solution yet.
    thx

    Hi,
    Sometimes services are started only when they are needed. Most services you listed are Manual in startup type which means they will be started manually when it is needed.
    Also if you disable a service manually, dependency services will also be stopped.
    Here are 2 threads which mentioned 2 services in your list and they are also start/stop even 10 minutes.

    Hello,
    If you see error descriptioon it gives access denied so basically it is because of some access issue.I guess You must be using some domin account for installation make sure it is  added as local administrator also instead of using NT Authority network
    service  as SQL server service account use local system account .
    Below link would help
    http://serverfault.com/questions/212135/access-is-denied-error-installing-sql-server-2008-on-windows-7
    You can also browse to setup.exe file and RK on it and select run as administrator

  • Active Directory Certificate Services setup failed with the following error: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. 0x800703e5 (WIN32: 997)

    Hi,
    I am trying to install certificate services on a windows 2008 server (R2 ENT SP1) with a PCIe nCipher HSM module installed on it. The version of nCipher SW is = 11.30.  It is a RootCA, and I am trying to use a key that is already stored in the HSM (I
    have done this before with a PCI HSM (older HW version)).  I select “Use existing private key” and “Select an existing private key on this computer” on the wizard, then i change the CSP to nCipher and click on "search" the key I am looking for
    appears and I select that one.  I repeat, I have done this before and it works with a PCI HSM module.
    The installation is finished before being prompted to insert the operator cards, and it ends with two errors:

    Hi, thanks for your support.
    I have been playing around a bit with some ncipher commands and found this:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\nCipher\nfast\bin>cspcheck.exe
    cspcheck: fatal error: File key_mscapi_container-1c44b9424a23f6cddc91e8a065241a0

    6cddc91)
    cspcheck: information: 2 containers and 2 keys found.
    cspcheck: fatal error occurred.
    If I perform the same command on the original server (the server with the original kmdata folder and with the running RootCA services):
    E:\nfast\bin>cspcheck.exe
    cspcheck: information: 2 containers and 2 keys found.
    cspcheck: everything seems to be in order.
    Strange?
    Moreover, when I do a csptest.exe command (also on both servers, i find this)
    On the new server:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\nCipher\nfast\bin>csptest.exe
    nCipher CSP test software
    =========================
    Found the nCipher domestic CSP named 'nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider'

        Container 'ROOTCA' has no stored keys.
        Container 'csptest.exe' has no stored keys.
    While in the old server:
    E:\nfast\bin>csptest.exe
    nCipher CSP test software
    =========================
    Found the nCipher domestic CSP named 'nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider'
      Provider name: nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider
      Version number: 1.40
    User key containers:

      Machine key containers:

        Container 'ROOTCA' has a 2048-bit signature key.
        Container 'csptest.exe' has no stored keys.
    As you can see, the container called ROOTCA, which is the one that I use during the installation, says it has no stored keys.  While on the old server, it says it contains a key.  Why is this happening?  I dont know, I am copying the complete
    key management folder from one server to another and initialize the security world with that folder as I always do, and i dont have any errors during this procedure.
    Do you know what could be the cause of this? or how can I fix this?  Thanks a lot, best regards.

    the socket opens and when I try to use telnet to connect I get a disconnect right away and journalctl reports the service exited with a status of 1/FAILURE
    Any ideas why the following service and socket files are not working?
    poppassd.service
    [Unit]
    Description=POP3 Password Change Service
    [Service]
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/poppassd
    StandardInput=socket
    StandardOutput=inherit
    StandardError=journal
    poppassd.socket
    [Socket]
    ListenStream=0.0.0.0:106
    [Install]
    WantedBy=sockets.target

    Note: i've never used poppassd and have not tested what i am about to suggest.
    Since poppassd is written to be invoked by inetd with the nowait flag, it probably wants to be started with an accepted socket, not a listening socket. To do this in systemd, first add the following to the [Socket] section of poppassd.socket:
    Accept=true
    Then change the name of poppassd.service to [email protected]
    Some socket activated template services (ie. [email protected]) also prepend '-' to the ExecStart value to prevent a single failed instance from throwing the service into a failed state.

  • [SOLVED] Netcfg.service always failing.

    Hello,
    Since systemd got pushed down with an update I decided to jump the ship (even though roughly a week ago I tried it and decided to wait a while, the irony ) With the help of my previous topic and the knowledge that e4rat does work with systemd, I got everything working and it's working faster than ever too. Win/win if you ask me.
    There's only one issue: the netcfg.service that I have enabled with systemctl enable netcfg.service always fail on boot and I have to manually connect later. I don't know why it fails, so I hope you can help me tracking the issue.
    This is the output of systemctl status netcfg.service right after booting:
    ┌─[jente @ lappy ~] 19:39:30
    └─■ systemctl status netcfg.service
    netcfg.service - Netcfg multi-profile daemon
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/netcfg.service; enabled)
    Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Fri, 31 Aug 2012 19:35:04 +0200; 4min 27s ago
    Process: 253 ExecStart=/usr/bin/netcfg-daemon start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/netcfg.service
    And here's systemctl --failed list-units:
    ┌─[jente @ lappy ~] 19:39:32
    └─■ systemctl --failed list-units
    UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB JOB DESCRIPTION
    netcfg.service loaded failed failed Netcfg multi-profile daemon
    LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded.
    ACTIVE = The high-level unit activation state, i.e. generalization of SUB.
    SUB = The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type.
    JOB = Pending job for the unit.
    1 units listed. Pass --all to see inactive units, too.
    And here's the journal output:
    ----- Reboot -----
    Aug 31 19:35:04 lappy netcfg-daemon[253]: :: [ESSID] up interface wlan0 does not exist
    Aug 31 19:35:04 lappy netcfg-daemon[253]: [fail]
    I don't think it's any netcfg configuration file, because it did work with SysV and the net-profiles daemon.

    I use a custom "network.service" as I have a static ip on my wireless lan (oh, and I chucked in the hdparm stuff because after suspend I found the disk had lost those settings, so don't copy that line). Based on this wiki section.
    $ cat /etc/systemd/system/network.service
    [Unit]
    Description=Network Connectivity
    Wants=network.target
    Before=network.target
    After=sys-devices-pci0000:00-0000:00:1c.1-0000:02:00.0-bcma0:0-net-wlan0.device
    BindTo=sys-devices-pci0000:00-0000:00:1c.1-0000:02:00.0-bcma0:0-net-wlan0.device
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    RemainAfterExit=yes
    EnvironmentFile=/etc/conf.d/network
    ExecStart=/sbin/hdparm --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing -m 16 -S0 -B255 /dev/sda
    ExecStart=/usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant -B -i ${interface} -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant-wlan0.conf
    ExecStart=/sbin/ip link set dev ${interface} up
    ExecStart=/sbin/ip addr add ${address}/${netmask} broadcast ${broadcast} dev ${interface}
    ExecStart=/sbin/ip route add default via ${gateway}
    ExecStop=/sbin/ip addr flush dev ${interface}
    ExecStop=/sbin/ip link set dev ${interface} down
    ExecStop=/usr/bin/killall wpa_supplicant
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
