UNRESOLVED CAPTIVATE ISSUES

In response to a question by Rod Ward in another thread, herewith the unresolved issues with Captivate:
- Programme not listed in "uninstall list" - that is in Windows Cotrol Panel
- The Jigsaw widget just hangs when puzzle is not built in time
- When using Drop and Drag and or Jigsaw widget in project with multiple attemps the widgets "fall over" the moment you add a quiz somehere in the project
- The Notes widget does not work when you publish to WIndows exe. (Even Adobe experts online could not solve this - several hours with control of my PC)
- For some reason in some projects the background audio keeps looping, even when turned of 9Again experts could not solve)
- Randomly, projects will publish with images, smartshapes etc. all filled with red. Then magicly, if you try enough times, it publishes ok.
- The software hangs (freezes) OFTEN. This could be while working in a project, when running a preview, anything. This has been an issue since my Captivate 5.5.
- Background audio volume control is inconsistent
- Fill and other formatting tools are PATHETIC when compared to Microsoft Office and even smaller software houses like Serif.
- Captivate is VERY limited as to the format of files that it can use. Compare with Corel.
- Buttons (and some other tools) do not behave consistently in publishing vs previewing. this EATS UP MY WORK TIME!! Again pathetic when compared to software such as Serif.
- The package as a whole seems "unstable" (Hanging, inconsistent behaviour) Remainds me of stuff we used in the eighties.
- Captivate is VERY resource intensive.
- It is "slow" software. Takes ages to do previews etc. Compare with good o'll powerpoint,
- Rediculously expensive for what it does.
- The turorials provided by Adobe is rather weak. it always shows things like widgets in the simplest application imagineable. Then I have to spend HOURS AND DAYS trying to figure out all the pitfalls associated with tools in a slightly more advanced use.
- I have worked on CAD, Webdesign, graphics, video editing, ERP, MRP, office (I.e, MS Office,Lotus, Multimate) and learning software. I do some coding work in visual basic. I teach software applications. Adobe Captivate is most difficult to get to know. It is riddled with pitfalls. I spend about 30% of my time to figure out the software.
In case you wonder, I use an i5 computer with four gigs of ram.
I process MASSIVE videos in Corel which NEVER HANGS.
And then there are many niggling little issues that I have learnt to work around!!

Sankaram: It seems to be an issue with cleaning up. Can you try with creative suite cleaner to remove Captivate 7 and install it again? Creative suite cleaner is available at http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

Sankaram: When Jigsaw puzzle is not built in time, we have seen movie pauses (NOT hang). Let us know if you observe the same.

Drag and Drop : Are you using Captivate 7 in-built Drag and Drop or any widget?

Sankaram: Can you try “Force Publish” option? Let us know if you still encountering the issue after this.

WebGL Renderer & GPU Accelerated Windows Blocked for your Graphics because of unresolved driver issues

I am using Windows XP SP 2. My mother board is ASUS F1A55-MLX Plus, Processor: AMD A4-3400 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.70 GHz, 2GB DDR3 DIMM 1333 MHz RAM and 500 GB SATA HDD. @mha007. I was able to update to version 10.0.1 via Help > About Firefox. Like John99 says it was updated a couple of days ago. However, the problem of WebGL and GPU still remains. I have asked my system supplier to check the same.
@zerofire. I have always built my computer and 'am a great fan of AMD. I hate Intel's blue Death Signs. We here in India do not like anything automated on our PC other than antivirus and antimalware along with pre-scheduled running of CCleaner and Defraggler. Once in a while I run CCleaner's Registry Cleaner. Even Windows Security Alerts are turned off. Windows XP and SP2 for PC and Windows 2000 for server are the most used. Not interested in SP3 or Vista as the transcription work I do requires me to just have XP or SP2. May later add on Windows 7 via dual booting.

Adobe Captivate issues

Hi,
I downloaded Adobe Captivate 5 to add audio to PPT slides. The audio works well on the first slide, but from then on the audio is not getting recorded on the slides. I am trying to add some audio per slide.

HELP - Captivate Issue

We are currently using Captive 3 to create online demonstrations with audio. After we record our audio (usually after a really good take) and play it back - our audio plays back really fast. It almost sounds like the Chipmunks are singing. The audio plays back super fast.
Any ideas why this could be happening? Is there a way to fix this? We have tried recording on several other computers and the same issue keeps occurring.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Does this happen when you Preview or after you Publish?
If after you publish, does it happen on the editing/authoring PC or on a different PC?
Perhaps check your Flash Player version?

Having some Captivate issues...

I have having a couple issues that were not fixed with the
1.01 update.
1) After I publish a movie, Captivate will sometimes close,
without saving anything at all. The movie is fully published,
however the software basically crashes after it has been published.
(This doesn't happen everytime, but maybe once out of ever 10
movies)
2) When the software is started, the loading screen does not
always display, I sometimes have to minimize all windows, and then
click on the loading screen in order for Captivate to have its own
tab on the taskbar. The loading image will appear when I minimize
all windows, and when I click on the loading image, it will then
create the Macromedia Captivate tab that appears on the taskbar.
3) Captivate cannot handle multiple movies open at the same
time. I noticed that when I publish with more than one Captivate
movie open, the software crashes. By crash, I mean the program
closes the entire movie without saving any changes at all.
I'm running a fully updated XP w/ SP2. I've disabled all
startup processes that are not needed, as well as tried with Norton
turned off- it still didn't work.

I've done about 3 before Captivate starts to act funny. It
has enough trouble with 2. I think I got up to 8 before Captivate
crashed.

Unresolved region issues?

I don't know if I am in the right forum but every time remove template markup then try to save the page it says that I have unresolve issues with the template reregions. Is this a problem and if so what must I do to correct it? Thanks Michael.

I don't believe I was vague in my post or making anyone guest at the problem. There is no code to copy and paste. It is just when I remove an editable region from a template so no other changes can be made to the children pages, saving the changes made to the template produces a pop up telling me there are unresolve issues with the regions that I removed.
Removing an editable region from a template page will synchronize all child pages to whatever the content is in that location on the template page. In other words, you will lose ALL page-specific content from the child pages. This is NOT an effective way to prevent other changes from being made to child pages and is akin to shooting ones self in the foot.
If you are getting this unresolved issues popup then you have errors on your page. Without actually seeing your page and knowing what you are attempting to remove, it would be hard to guess what errors these might be.

Captivate issues

I am installing Captivate but keep getting an error " The file archive part of Adobe Captivate 6 (64 bit) is missing. You need all parts i the same folder in order to extractr Adobe Captivate 6, please download all parts"

DNS is working but unresolved DNS issue remains

Perhaps someone can help me with a DNS issue.
I have DNS working fine on a my Mac server.
I take responsibility for the domain (example.com) and establish the primary zone with the nameserver as server.example.com.
I also setup a A record for the phrase www.example.com to point to the externally hosted website.
That all works fine inside the network.
sudo changeip -checkhostname resolves just fine.
The problem is that I need to establish a reference for a test website : www.example.com/wp-admin so that it works inside the network.
That URL has a different IP address than the www record.
A) I'm not sure how to add the part of the URL past example.com
B) I cannot add a / as part of the machine name - the server software forbids it.
Can anyone clue me into how to do this?

DNS is not the tool you need here.
DNS translates host names and (for some protocols) IP ports, but doesn't translate file paths.
In the classic URL scheme (and simplifying things), the DNS translation deals with getting an IP host address for the string that's between the first double // and the subsequent / in the URL, and nothing else.
To differentiate further, you can either use a virtual host (what Apple calls a "Site" in Server Admin) on the target server, or can configure the web server (usually via a rewrite rule) to redirect the incoming HTTP request to the path you want.
Depending on exactly what you're up to here, sometimes a reverse web proxy can be used. A reverse web proxy is where you're forwarding an incoming HTTP request from one server along to another web server, either on the same or another IP host.

Old (but unresolved) connect issues deleted

Some old connect issues have been deleted without being resolved, e.g:

Whether you should resubmit depends (IMHO) on whether the issues are still relevant. How old are the reports? What version(s) of VS are involved?
In your shoes, if the issues are relevant, I'd submit a question on Connect regarding the deleted reports, and ask why.
Please don't give up on reporting bugs via Connect. You know as well as I do that the vast majority, when validated, are being attended to by the dev team.

Unresolvable Graphics Issue

For almost as long as I can remember, I have had a persistant graphics issue that affects any type of rendered video (youtube, adobe premiere), screensavers, and basically anything that requires any rendering except the rendering the UI on all of OS X and subsequent programs and plugins. I cannot remember if I had this issue with Snow Leopard (I really hope Mountain Lion fixes it).
This issue inflicts every external display as well as the onboard laptop screen. I have tried reinstalling the Nvidia drivers for my GeForce 330M discrete graphics card and installing CUDA which is supposed to help graphics acceleration. Being that this is an Apple product, reinstalling drivers isn't really a posibiligy unless it is a 3rd party device like a printer. I have tried every known and available resource to me to try and reinstall the driver. This issue occurs on seperate boots, meaning if I boot from an external hard drive I still recieve the issue.
The distortion is similar to just some random gray garble across the screen in different patterns everytime. When I export video from any of my editing softwares the video retains the distorition in the finished format. This is really irritating as I show my videos to an actual audience (it is actually sometimes irritating).
I have already tried reinstalling OS X Lion. Infact I bought an SSD and reinstalled the entire OS and manually migrated all of my data, programs, ect. back over to the new HDD.
I do not know if this issue is isolated to the discrete or integrated graphics card. Currently I have my Mac set to use only the discrete graphics card (I don't even bother using the Intel Integrated GPU as it pretty much ***** until Ivy Bridge).
Any help or direction on this issue would be awesome. This is a bug that really bothers me and is actually pushing me towards buying a new mac, something I do not want to do. If this issue can be resolved I forsee keeping my machine for another few years.

I can't think of any software or even system files that would cause the problems you're describing. It certainly seems as if it's a GPU issue, in which case your entire logic board would need replacing.
Make that appointment at the Apple Store! Make sure that you have everything backed up first.

Is there any way to speak to a human being at Firefox concerning an unresolved loading issue?

Presumably, you're trying to update to v4.0.1. It has proved to be problematical for some people.
If that is indeed the case, please follow these steps. 
#Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/?ref=logo Download Firefox 4.0.1] and download the installation file to your desktop. 
#Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (''don't checkmark the box''). 
#Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 
#Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier. 
Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation. 
After you complete the installation, please go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update where necessary.

Maps for mapquest & others will not load,"bocked mbecause of unresolved driver issues"

the graphics on some sites like mapquest don't seem to work. I get a blank area where the maps should. Started after last or previous update. mapquest does work fine with IE

could you make sure that your drivers are up-to-date and that your plugins are as well? You can usually find your GPU's (Graphics Processing Unit) drivers on the official website of your brand and can check for your plugins at [[http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck]]. Let me know how it goes.

Mulple accounts on one iPad.. Unresolvable country issue?

I keep having to switch iTunes stores (iTunes Canada / iTunes US) while installing apps. Some are tied to my US account, some to my newer Canada account. Is the a way to reset "country-of-origin" or integrate these different accounts?

It's not a bug. That's the way iTunes accounts work. Updates can only be obtained when logged in to the same account from which those particular apps were obtained. Updates are actually not updates and what you're doing is downloading newer versions of those apps. That's why the old ones appear in the thrash can after you're done updating. I have the same problem as I have both UK and US iTunes accounts. There is no other way around it as far as I'm aware.

Long post - MacBook unresolved shutdown issue. Help?

Briefly, my wife's MacBook (2.0 w/1 GB) started the shutdown spiral after almost a month of rock-solid performance. It escaladed (or spiraled) quickly and the genius at the Apple Store quickly boxed it up and sent it to Tennessee for repair. The intial runs of shutdowns were so bad that we were unable to complete a back-up of the important stuff.
Now, here's where we start to get disgusted with Apple.
I'm afraid the story has taken a terrible turn for the worse. The first repair came back after 2 weeks and the machine was fine for another 2 weeks. Then the shutdowns started. Apple Care sent up a nifty little capture tool that made a quick .img out of the system and crash logs which we then sent to Apple for the "engineers" to look at and offer suggestions.
Shutdowns get noticebly more frequent as the week progresses. Apple asks for more capture files.
Then the screen goes haywire. Whether booted from the HDD or a CD, nice, comforting multicolored vertical lines. System seems to be booting okay, but the video is still a nice series of lines. At this time we can't complete a fresh system back-up.
Apple recognizes that the video is a new problem and sends us a box for a quick return for repair. So, trying to be patient, we send the MB off to Tennessee. Again.
The MB makes it back in five days and the display works fine, everything looks good. We made a quick back-up (just in case) and everyone is happy. According to the repair paperwork, they replaced a DIMM and a few other parts. Since the logic board was replaced the first time, they apparently left that alone.
The next morning the shutdowns begin again. Apple Care says they will send another box but they don't understand why it might continue to do this. Neither do we.
Back to Apple again. Now the repair status says "Awaiting parts on order".
So, Apple Computer Inc., at what point do you think we have been patient enough with the process and replace the computer?
Anyone else have their MacBook in for a third time?

Ouch that must really suck. So far I Haven't had any problem with my BlackBook...
As for the Coloured lines, their is a simple fix; flash the PRAM and then chance your display size and reboot. Then they go away.
For the random shut downs, I suspect the problem has too do with the heat sensors on your computer. All x86 Machines are programmed to shut down when the machine is overheating. Looking at the videos of the macbook shutting down, it looks like they don't know when they are overheating and turn off.

I have an issue with Captivate 5.5 SCORMS failing in Moodle 2.5.3 and now in 2.6, have upgraded to Captivate 8.0, any ideas?

I am new to Captivate (and Moodle) and have inherited a project that was built with Captivate 5.5, and originally deployed on Moodle 2.5.3.
The SCORMS started failing in Moodle 2.5.3 and so we migrated to Moodle 2.6, but they still start to load, then the spinning wheel of eternity takes over and they don't load.
From some other posts I have seen, it appears to be a Captivate issue? Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Zac, sorry to hear about your troubles, but that's why us other users are here to try to help in these instances.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this connection drop happens.
