Upgrade from osx 10.4.11 to osx 10.5.8

I have new nano 16gb that requires OSX 10.5.8 .Can i go directly to 10.5.8 from 10.4 11. OR can i go directly from 10.4.11 to the most recent OSX system what ever that is.
Please advise what to buy.Also can this be installed by me,is there a how to link.

Note, 512MB is LESS than 1 GB.
And I agree upgrading to 10.6 makes a lot of sense, unless you don't have software that is 10.6 compatible. This user tip should help:

There is one falacy on that, and sometimes the Apple phone order line for their store (not the website), or customer service has the retail 10.5 installer disc for sale for those who can't upgrade all the way to 10.6 yet.

I have tried the using Adobe cleaner tool and multiple machine restarts....

To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader, then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager.

You will need to get a 10.6 Snow Leopard retail disk which I don't think are still available from Apple.
Google "buy mac 10.6 snow leopard" to get an idea of current pricing. You'll need updates to10.6.8 in order to upgrade to 10.7 (the early core duo MBPros can not do this) or possibly 10.8 but check the exclusion list to be sure.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.

Of course not. It's a hardware problem, so it can't be fixed by upgrading software. The only option you have got is to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller.
That error indicates a problem with the hard drive. What you have to do is to make a backup of your files and take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller, so they can confirm that the problem is the hard drive and not the SATA connector, which could be worse.
If it's a hard drive issue, it's not expensive (about $100-200, depending on the hard drive). If it's a SATA connector issue, the whole logic board may have to be replaced.
Note that you can replace the hard drive yourself if you want, but the cost between doing it yourself and taking the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller is similar

I was wondering if I could upgrade from osx tiger v10.4.11 to osx Snow Leopard v10.6 for 29$ or at a lower cost than full price. I do not need to upgrade that much because 10.4.11 is so great and I hate to leave it. Paying the full price of an operating system does not make sense to me.
