Upgrade hangs at TABIM_POST_SHD

Hi all,
My ecc 6 EHP6 upgrade hangs at TABIM_POST_SHD .This is running for the past 5 hours still not completed. From pas experience this phase has never taken so much time .There are no backgroung jobs running nor are the logs being updated.Only 1 file is being updated which sort of runs in loop.
file name is N140317.FED .Following is its content.

  • The upgrade hangs a lot of time in phase PARCONV_UPG, SHADOW_IMPORT_UPG2..

    Hello!!:
I'm doing the CU&UC, as say the Guide, and now i'm upgrading my 46C MDMP system to Ecc6.0 nounicode (later i'm going to
    do the unicode).
In the phases RUN_RADCUCNT_ALL, SHADOW_IMPORT_UPG2,....has been a lot of time.
In the Note OSS 558197 - upgrade hangs in PARCONV_UPG, XPRAS_UPG, SHADOW_IMPORT_UPG2, there is a solution
for a Oracle Database, but we have MSSQL2005 in a Windows Server.
In this moment in our DB we have applied as say the Note OSS 187493 - DB13 jobs 'Check table Consistency'
and 'Update statistics', and sometimes in the biggest tables we apply the Note OSS ‘771352 - Manual UPDATE STATISTICS
    re-enables Disabled Automatic Stats’
Can you help us? In this moment the upgrade downtime is 48 hours (and we haven't yet done some phases of the
    upgrade)
    Thanks an regards,
    Alfredo.

    Alfredo,
Here is the down and skinny on this - PARCONV_UPG can be addressed with ICNV (Incremental Table Conversion) which you can run during the 'Up' Time of the upgrade.  Of course there are some limitations put on you when using this solution but it will help to reduce your down-time windows be pre-converting tables during up-time.  Those tables that are not converted in ICNV will have to be converted during down-time during  the PARCONV_UPG phase so I am pretty sure that your database is getting its (stuff here....) handed to it.
As a 'suggestion' and not a rule here (because it effects recovery of SQL Databases) you can look at using Bulk Logged or Simple Logged modes if your system is using Full-Logged mode to speed things up a bit (actually quite a bit if Full-Logged is enabled).
As for the SHADOW_IMPORT_UPG2 - this is mostly going to be tp putting things in the system and some compiling - the speed of the Db and the processors play a big impact in this.  You can watch the SLOG in the upgrade directory to check this out (look in your upgrade guide for Log Files during this phase to get their names and locations) to see if anything is hanging but I would probably expect not much is going on.
Overall you need to identify the bottleneck first - CPU, Memory, Db I/O, a number of things can contribute to your issues of slow upgrade time - as I would have to agree with SAP that there is nothing wrong with the Upgrade Process (except that you can take advantage of things like ICNV where possible - read the upgrade guide and hit the notes and help first!!).  Everything else is going to be your setup and how it reacts to the different activities in the upgrade.
So check those out first - let us all know what you come up with and hopefully we can fix your problem directly and quickly.

  • "Database Upgrade" hangs at 0% during "Completing the Installation" phase

    I 'm now installing the EGRCM8.6.3.4000 environment.
"Database Upgrade" hangs at 0% during "Completing the Installation" phase.
I checked the grc.log, and found the following WARN and DEBUG messages.
2012-07-20 02:40:05,544 WARN [Thread-35] DBConfigManager:1425 Database is not initialized yet.
2012-07-20 03:31:10,412 DEBUG [el.Default (self-tuning)'] GrcConfig:2530 Could not get value for key 'grc.sso.enabled' due to data base is not ready.
The connection to DB is OK, and the status of DB instance is open now.
I can't figure out why the console said "Database is not initialized yet".
Does anyone have a clue about it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kai

    Hi yasir,
    Thanks for your response.
I haven't finished the installation yet.
"Completing the Installation" I mentioned in previous thread referred to the final installation phase.
After I entered GRC URL (http://hostname:port/grc), the "Database Upgrade" screen hanged at 0% and cannot proceed.
From the grc.log, I can read that the connection seemed OK, and the database also worked well through SQLPLUS.
I am wondering why it happens.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kai

  • IPhoto Library upgrade hangs

upgraded to OS X Yosemity on my  2008 iMac (previously on Maverickx); Also upgraded to iPhoto 9.6. Was told to upgrade the iPhoto library for which I followed the instructions but upgrade hangs (doesn't stop).

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • 10.6.8 -- 10.9 Upgrade: hangs at "Upgrading services"

10.6.8 --> 10.9 Upgrade: hangs at Server App "Upgrading services"
Upgraded XServe-Early-2009 to Mavericks OS no problem. Albeit extremely slow (50min install, 2hr cataloging).
Initiating Server for 1st time renders a Hang at "Upgrading services" (left it for 1-1/2hrs).
Then computer claims hard disk is almost full, so I trashed a bunch of crap.
Force Quit (Server install) and Restart shows white screen.
Target FireWire in order to DiskWarrior and Repair Permissions brought XServe back to life.
Downloaded Server App again (for kicks).
2nd attempt at running Server App renders a Hang again at "Upgrading services".
Was I being silly thinking I'd have a flawless Upgrade and get home in time for Turkey ?
Does anybody have any ideas what could be happening ?
Thanks, and have a Happy Thansgiving !!

You were probably foolish to try this before a holiday weekend.  Repeat after me...
Q:  What is the first rule of upgrading OS X Server on a Production Server?
A:  You don't upgrade OS X Server on a Production Server.
Q:  What is the second rule of upgrading OS X Server on a Production Server?
A:  You DO NOT upgrade OS X Server on a Production Server without a backup!
You get the point.  Hopefully, this made you smile a bit.  I feel your pain.
So, first...  Tell me you have a backup of the 10.6.8 boot volume before your started and that you can restore, walk away slowly, and pretend this never happened.
If this is not the case, the next step is to define a list of all services that you had running on the server before attempting the upgrade.  Remember, there are a lot of services removed between 10.6 and 10.9 (Podcast, MySQL, Tomcat, QTSS, etc).  If you were using one of those services, the upgrade process may be halting.  Likewise, if you are using something like mail, there may be a long reindexing process.  So, while the 1 to 1.5 hours sounds very long, it is possible that the server was doing something.  That leads to the next place to look.
What was being reported in the log files.  System log, Open Directory log, and even the all events log can be helpful in tracking down an error or long running process.
Likewise, what does Activity Viewer show during this upgrade.  What process(es) is/are consuming CPU?  Disk I/O?  The assumption is that the server is trying to do something (hopefully).
You are going to need your put on your Sherlock Holmes' deerstalker for this one.  I will also point out that the "out of disk space" error is sounding particularly terrifying.
You may be having a very long Friday.

  • 7.0.2  upgrade "hangs" on install, QT upgrade too!  Here's my story...help?

    Hello all,
Well, it happened here too. Someone tried to run the iTunes update to 7.0.2. and it hangs right after agreeing to the license agreement. Before the install here's what the system looked like...
    10.3.9, itunes 7.0.1, Quicktime 7.1.2(I think).
So, after seeing this problem first hand I ran Software Update and saw that this particular machine was asking for a Quicktime update to 7.1.3. I downloaded and installed, restarted. Tried to open iTunes...same symptom. Trashed iTunes, reinstalled, repaired permissions, opened iTunes, same symptoms.
Then I got to thinking...I remember a while ago that the Quicktime upgrade to version 7 also had some troubles, so I tried to open Quicktime.....SAME SYMPTOM as opening iTunes....hangs with beachball. When going to "Force Quit" neither of these programs shows as not responding either.
Does anyone have a fix for this seemingly WIDESPREAD problem with these latest updates? I (and several co-workers) are anxiously awaiting a solution.

I have found the cause and solution for my particular problem. Please see this thread for the answer and important links...

  • 10.5.3 Server Upgrade Hang

I have downloaded the upgrade to 10.5.3 server and went on to the installation phase. It asks me to reboot the computer I press continue and it restarts the computer entering the installation mode where it starts the installation. It 'configures the installation' and then stops. The bar goes about a half centimeter, and hangs. I have checked the quality of my drive and it is fine. Is any one else having this issue?
The server is a second gen macbook.
The machine also dual boots into 10.5.3 client.

  • Cisco Prime 1.3 Upgrade Hangs

I'm trying to upgrade our Cisco Prime 1.2 to 1.3. When I complete the command to upgrade, it then asks if I want to save the current ADE-OS to the running configuration. I say yes and it saves it. Then it begins the upgrade process. I get:
    Initiating Application Upgrade...
      Stage 1 of 7: Transferring file ...
That is where it is stuck at. I have looked at the server I have the upgrade file on and it shows the transfer. The transfer has been running for close to an hour.
Any thoughts or ideas why it would hang here?

Please check the link below to download the software as I feel the steps you are following is correct and you may try to do it again downloading this software. Might the software is not downloaded proper.

  • Live Upgrade hangs at Configuring devices. on Sun V440

    Hi all,
    I am trying to upgrade a V440 which is running Solaris 8 2/04 to Solaris 10 8/07.
I have patched the V440 Solaris 8 build to the latest recommended patch cluster, and have also installed p7zip utility and followed the recommended patching procedures in Sun Doc 206844.
I have installed the Live Upgrade packages from the Solaris Media Kit (8/07) and successfully created the Solaris 10 Boot Environment based on the Solaris 8 boot environment, upgraded it and activated it.
However, on rebooting, the new Solaris10 boot environment hangs at configuring devices. and fails to proceed any further in the boot process.
    Can anyone assist please?

    Done it!
It seems the only way I could get the V440 to upgrade to Solaris 10 was to upgrade the alternate boot environment to Solaris 9 (which required a reinstallation of the SAN foundation kit - which might be where Solaris 10 was hanging), and then a further upgrade of the alternate boot environment to Solaris 10.
I might try uninstalling the SAN foundation kit, and then an upgrade from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 and see if this confirms my theory. Will keep you posted.

  • LP9 upgrade hangs while reading XSKey

I have Logic Pro 6 and I'm trying to upgrade to Logic Studio 2 (Logic Pro 9).
I have my blue Emagic XSKey dongle which works fine to launch and run LP6. The XSKey shows up under USB in the System Profiler. All looks fine.
However, when I run the upgrade, after I enter the new LS2 serial number, if the XSKey is not yet plugged in it goes to the screen asking for the old serial number or XSKey. When I plug it in and hit "OK" the installer hangs forever with a beach ball! (I once even waited for a very long time to see if anything happens) The Activity Monitor shows it as not responding.
If I have the XSKey plugged in in advance, it hangs even before going to the next screen.
    *PLEASE HELP!!!*
If I take the XSKey out while hanging, it wakes up from the dead and shows me the message: *+"Your Logic XSKey is not eligible for this upgrade. Please refer to the upgrade requirements for details."+*
Again, this message did not show up while the XSKey was inserted, only when it was removed.
Some more detils: I'm using a G5 (new Intel MBP 15" will come soon to replace it).
Also, I bought Logic 6 with some University discount (still paid $700 for it!), but it doesn't seem like I got any Academic version - this looks like a regular release. I'm not even sure there was an Academic version at the time of Logic 6 (was there? And if yes, are Apple aware of the Emagic Academic XSKey serial numbers?)
Finally, after I bought Logic 6 I didn't use it until 2 years later. At that time there was no way for me to register Logic 6 with Apple as they didn't have a way to register Logic 6 and Emagic's registration no longer existed. I was told this shouldn't be a problem.
What troubles me is the fact that the installation completely hangs while the XSKey is plugged in. If I were really not legible for an upgrade I would expect to get this message right away with no hangs.
Any help here would be strongly appreciated. What causes it to hang and what should I do to fix this?
    Thanks!

    rafisaar wrote:
Thanks immo. Actually I failed to mention in my original post that I also already tried the XSKey updater and it didn't complain of any problem. It looked for an updated firmware online and returned saying there is no newer version. So that part looks fine as well.
    Thanks David as well.
But does anybody know if there even was an Academic version at the time of Logic Pro 6?
I will try this again next week on the new Intel MBP 15" I'm going to get and then I'll know if the issue is because of the G5 or the XSKey. For sure I would expect it not to hang.
    Thanks.
Logic Pro 6 - yes on the academic version, and as far as I know the dongles looked the same (dark blue)
Also, you do have the original serial number? You probably are better off using that instead of the XSKey.
Please DO call Apple on this, they do have the Emagic database of original owners, so if you had yours registered with Emagic when you bought it, it should be in the Apple system. Mine was, and I've been in since 4.8.1
    Cheers

  • OS X 10.5.1 upgrade hangs

Just a word about the 10.5.1 update. I observed a situation on a 15in 2.4 MBP where upon implementation of the 10.5.1 update the machine hung on reboot at a blue screen with a spinning progress wheel. This was left running for about 30min +. In the mean time doing some searches for similar hang ups found a few comments but no solutions. Having performed the upgrade on my own machine I knew this was abnormal and suggested a shutdown and restart. I noticed at the time that the machine had a fire drive attached and a wireless logitech mouse. I suggested disconnecting those devices and restarting. The machine then restarted and progressed right into the operating system and indicated an update to 10.5.1. Not sure the issue. Maybe the peripherals...
    Solution?
    wait...
    shutdown.
    Disconnect everything external
    and restart...

I am able to launch FCE 3.5.1 on 10.5.1 without issues.
You may want to trash your FCE preferences (~Library/Preference/...), if you haven't already tried that, as they may have been corrupted.

  • J2EE Patch Upgrade Hangs

When executing the J2EE upgrade from PL19 to PL24, the install process hangs at 0% after clicking on 'start' button.  Has anyone else encountered this issue?  If yes, then how did you solve it?
We're in a standalone J2EE environment not cluster...therefore, the major J2EE architectural changes (between patch levels) don't apply according to the notes.

Just referring to one of the newest SAP Notes regarding J2EE engine upgrade (720148)...It says, "PL 21 Standalone version of SAP J2EE Engine contains no architectural changes and only bugfixes. If one applies SP21 standalone version, the recommendations for cluster version as well as the additional sizingestimations are not necessary. PL 21 Standalone version is pure bugfix release."
As of today, I don't see any notes regarding PL 23.  At any rate, we're sort of off the main issue.
I've tried upgrading from PL19 to all other releases above that (PL20 and higher) and I get the same result of the install hanging at 0%...any ideas?
I want to upgrade beyond PL19 because of the EP6 SP2 Patch 4 requirements.

  • HELP! eMac not accepting Tiger upgrade 'hang installation'

OK, I'm not a techhead but I'm learning! I'm getting a "panic" and "missing driver" msg when trying to boot Tiger disk on my eMac which currently is running Panther 3.9. It's freezing and displaying a 'hang installation'. There's something? I need, a driver? or perhaps something I need to clear or reset in Panther. The eMac is compatible, it's in the software. If anyone can help me out here I would appreciate it.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you using a retail Tiger install disc which looks like
That does not say Drop-in, update, or upgrade on it?
If not, then you are using the wrong disc, and that disc can't be used on an eMac.

  • Ipad s/w upgrade hanging - how do I re-start?

I'm trying ot upgrade my ipad s/w.  The download seems to be hanging. Can I simply unplug and re-connect to re-start, or is it more complicated?
    Thanks.

press the home and off button yogether for about 10 secs until the apple reappears(ignore the slider) This is just like rebooting your computer. You can then try and upgrade again

  • New Tiger Leopard Upgrade Hangs (Apple+Spinning Gear)

I have a long and tragic tale:
First of all, I dual-boot Windows XP in order to play Final Fantasy XI and run the occasional Windows-only program. Everything was working wonderfully (for over a year, I might add), when this morning I booted up XP, clicked on FFXI and logged in, and five or so minutes after functioning the same as ever, I get a Blue Screen of Death (BAD POOL HEADER). Since I could find nothing really on how to fix this besides a clean install, I decided to do just that; however, the windows installer gave the same BAD POOL HEADER message, so I decided to destroy the partition and make a new one to install Windows on.
This is where things got hairy.
After destroying the partition and remaking it, I boot camp'd to install XP, and after installing XP, I get "The operating system has errors" -- and my Mac partition is GONE!
So, extremely frustrated, I headed home and reinstalled everything from scratch. First Tiger (which worked fine), then I put in the Panther upgrade disk. It installed normally, but it now hangs at the screen with the Apple logo and a spinning gear. It has set there for 30+ minutes, with or without the Leopard disk in the drive.
I've done memory checks, disk repairs, permission repairs, fsck, ... you name it.
Interestingly, in verbose mode, it hangs on the line
    E:[AppleUSBBluetoothHCIController][FindInterfaces] mInt0InterruptMaxPacketSize = 16
Any and all help would be VERY appreciated!~

    bump...
