Upgrade many CS4 flas to CS5 XFLs using JSFL ?

Hello,
This is my first post on these forums, even though I read many of them in the past. I work as a Flash developper for a e-learning company.
I'm using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard).
I've been happily using the XFL format for my work projects. I managed to save half of my 1000+ CS4 flas as CS5 xfls, and store them in my subversion source control system. Appart from some glitches documented elsewhere, I find it much easier to keep control of my various revisions now, as it fits nicely in my usual workflow.
With this amount of files to deal with, I'm a big fan of JSFL. I didn't find a way to open my document, and save it as ${filename}.xfl automatically.
Do you know any way to programmatically save a document as a XFL? I still have 500 files to go!
Thank you very much!

=================== My current workflow, in case you're trying to do the same =====================
Right now, for testing purposes, I use a workflow along those lines (into a folder full of flas, and only flas):
-----start
In JSFL, I open all CS4 flas in a dir and save them again in CS5 fla (check "don't ask again" when prompted)
Now all my CS4 files are CS5 fla files (meaning they are basically zipped XFLs).
# Find all files named xxx.fla (my own custom predictible xxx pattern) and make a dir with the same name without the 'fla' extension
find . -type f|cut -c1-14|sed -e 's/\.\///'|xargs mkdir {}
# Extract the flas to the newly created dirs
find . -type f |cut -c1-14|sed -e 's/\.\///'|xargs -I {} unzip {}.fla -d {}
rm -f *.fla
------end
This kind of works, and fills most of my needs, but I can't rely on it totally because, being French, some of my library items or folders have accented characters in them, and they show up like this, for instance:
soci+%AEt+%AE.xml instead of société.xml
If you avoid accented characters (and probably spaces and special characters also) in your library items and folders, it should work pretty well, though!
Good luck!

Educational versions are not eligible for ANY upgrade. (Read the license) So, no.
If you had the commercial version you could skip CS4 and jump straight to CS5, yes.
Realize Adobe no longer sells anything prior to CS6, upgrade or otherwise.

    Hello,
I'm interested to find out how to MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED. Its my intention to buy the upgrade not thru
download, but purchasing the dvd's needed eventually used if necessary.
    Thank you

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

  • Upgrading [from CS4 DP to CS5.5 DS] vs. Purchasing Full [in Education Store]

I currently have CS4 Design Premium, but would like to purchase CS5.5 Design Standard. I am a college student [pursuing a degree in graphic design]; therefore it is more cost efficient if I purchase the full package from the Education Store, rather than purchasing the upgrade itself. There seems to be a rather large difference in price, and as a college student, I don't have a large supply of money to use at will.
I'm wondering if it would cause any problems to purchase from the Education Store instead of the Upgrade?
I figured I'd just uninstall the programs I have, then install the new versions. The only problem I could foresee would be something with me having purchased a product from the Educational Store before. Does anyone know what the protocol here would be?
I would be very grateful for any help you could give me!
    Thanks!

If you're still a student you would be foolish not to take advantage of academic pricing. Go for it.
In fact you can save a few extra bucks buying it at Amazon: http://amzn.to/odENtC
    $279 with free shipping.
BTW, I believe the only limit (besides having to be a student) is that you can only buy one copy of a program per year. This is new a version so I can't see any problem with that.
    Hope that helps,

  • Can I upgrade from CS4 extended to CS5

I dont use the extra features in CS4 extended, so it would be better value for me to upgrade to just CS5 - is this allowed?

  • Upgrading Windows CS4 to Mac CS5 - What is needed?

I  called Adobe Cust Supt, and I wanted to verify on here what I think I heard from the customer service.  It was overseas and I could barely understand a word she was saying.
Our company is moving from Windows network to Mac.  We purchased CS4 a few years ago, and it turns out it works quite well for the needs our office has.  I would like to simply move the license over to a MAC CS4, but that would mean purchasing another CS4 Design Premium suite, costing too much for our small firm.  If I understood Customer Service, I could simply purchase a Mac CS5 upgrade, and transfer license that way.
If I deactivate the CS4 license on the Windows machine, verify that it was indeed deactivated, then install the CS5 upgrade on the Mac, will it recognize the CS4 Windows and allow it to go through?  Would I need to get on the phone with Customer Service and have them pull strings to get it going?
Is there anything else that I am missing?

I called again and spoke to a different agent.  He informed me that license do indeed cross over, but not for CS4.  Apparetly, only current versions cross over. In order for my license of CS4 cross over, I have to spend $649 to upgrade to CS5.5, then call back and have them walk me though the transfer procedure, as there are codes that I will need from them in order to install.
I also asked if I could purchase any Mac upgrade from the local store, or if I needed to purchase from the website.  He said the local store purchase will be fine.  He never mentioned anything about destroying my CS4 media either.  Maybe they will spring that on me when I call next?

  • Upgrading from CS4 design to CS5 web

I have the CS4 design premium suite. Does anyone know if I can purchase the CS5 web premium upgrade as is, or do I have to purchase full versions of the missing components of the web suite before I purchase the web premium upgrade? If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

You can, but why do you want to? What will you find in the Web suite that's missing from Design. Answer: Flash Builder and Contribute.
IMO, Design Premium is the best bang for the buck out there and covers just about anything most designers would need. I have an article on my website you might find worthwhile: http://www.theindesignguy.com/purchase-advice.shtml
Also, be careful when buying. You need to get the CS4 to CS5 upgrade. You can get it on Amazon for about $580: http://amzn.to/ahaavR
    Design Premium is $578: http://amzn.to/alNI7q
    Hope that helps,

  • Upgrade from CS4 extended to CS5

I have Photoshop CS4 extended. Purchased the upgrade to CS5, loaded the disc, ran the installation , all seemed Ok.
However my current version of CS4 is still displayed - Is there a diffenece in the updrade discs you need to purchase?
Won't be too happy as I ordere d by phone and I explained what I had ? . Not a happy bunny with Adobe at the moment.
And try caling support at the weekend - aaagh !

The correct forum for this question is http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop and from there pick your platform. But wish you to know that I have PSCS3, PSCS4 and PSCS5 still installed on my comp. Updates don't override the previous version.

  • Upgrade to CS4 or CS5?

The agency I work for is currently using CS3, but there is a debate about upgrading to CS4 or to CS5. Because we work with a lot of print pieces one of the concerns is that most printers are probably still on CS4 so we shouldn't be more advanced than they are to avoid needing to save everything down. The other side of the argument is that the time saving features added in CS5 would be worth taking the time to save files down.
I think it would help provide some insight to hear from someone who is familiar with CS4 and CS5, and any issues they have experienced.
    So any advice?
    Thanks for your reply!

CS4 is not for sale. Only CS 5 is available. Moreover, any printshop worth using should have both. If they have not purchased CS 5, then they probably aren't worth working with. Upgrades like this are part of their cost of doing business. They can purchase it now or a year from now. If they purchase a year from now they will have one less year of work from the software at exactly the same price.

  • Upgrading from photoshop CS to CS5

Is this possible?, Or do I have to pay the full upgrade cost?  or possibly upgrade to CS4 first the CS5 this would save about £280.00 over the full upgrade.
    Best regards

From what I've read, if you upgrade to CS4 from CS, you've used your upgrade option for your license and you WILL have to pay the full price for CS5 as a new licensing will be required.
There is absolutely no truth in that statement.  If you upgrade from CS to CS4 now, you will then be able to update from CS4 to CS5, and from CS5 to CS6, from CS6 to CS7 and so on and on.  You might even get a free upgrade to CS5 if you buy CS4 now, not 100% sure of that.
The trick is to do so right now, before CS4 ceases to be sold in about a few weeks.
I haven't bought a full version of Photoshop since Photoshop 6, then upgraded to 7, 8 (CS), 9 (CS2), 10 (CS3) and finally 11 (CS4).  I'm still eligible to upgrade to CS5, except that I won't be doing so for financial reasons, as it would require a hardware upgrade for me too.

  • Upgrade from CS4 to CS5.5. did not go smoothly, now stuck at CS5 - how do I fix the installation?

    Hi There,
I had a lot of issues upgrading from CS4 (Adobe Application Manager crashing, installer not opnening etc) but managed to get the installer to run by using the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to remove all traces of CS4.
However, when the installer finished, it stated there were errors and now the installers won't run - nor can I run updates from the CS apps that did install.
I've normally never had any issues upgrading, so am not sure why I had so many issues and the best way forward from here - Hoping I don't have to remove all the CS5 apps, use the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool again and start from the begining.
I'm trying to install Master Collection CS5.5 on Mac OS 10.7.2
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

Have had to hang up as I was calling the US using a New Zealand Mobile while in Portugal (long story) - and the 11 minute wait time would've cost the same amount as the CS5.5 upgrade!
I had to call the US because:
The New Zealand support number listed on the Adobe site doesn't work
New Zealand is not listed as a country Adobe suppoprt will call back from the "Schedule a callback" page
    What a joke.
I used the Adobe Support Adviser app to analyze the install error log and it provided me with a very helpful link to a support page that states "You can ignore this error and launch the products you were installing."
    Unfortunately, nothing was installed.
I need to do work while a long way from home and can't use/install any CS5 apps - does anyone know how to install CS5 in Lion?
    Cheers

  • Full version pshop CS (8), upgraded to CS4. Recieved the free upgrade to CS5... will this work?

    Hi,
Appologies if this seems like a stupid enquiry. I'll keep it quick and simple.
I had been running a full version of photoshop CS (aka photoshop version 8). I just bought the upgrade to CS4 and also (to answer other questions on this forum) I just received the free upgrade to CS5 from Adobe. Not having an intel Mac yet I plan to sit on my CS5 upgrade till I have the machine to run it. My question to anyone who knows/has done this, can I install my CS5 upgrade given that my original full copy of photoshop was version CS (ie. more than 3 versions back)...?
    I have seen this discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2734196#2734196
but it still leaves me unsure (would Tai Lao be able to install CS5 if he wanted too I wonder...???).
Before anyone asks I have asked Adobe via the customer support portal and they said that I 'could install CS5 upgrade from CS4 upgrade' (which still doesn't answer the question, does my having CS stop me upgrading to CS5 due to the "3 version back upgrade policy"...?
    Thanks for the help!
    Matt

    Matt,
    Focus for a second please:
All Adobe upgrades are FULL INSTALLERS.  If the upgrade does not find a previous version installed, it will simply ask you for the old serial number as well.  That's all.
You now have a valid CS4 serial number.  When you install CS5, the installer will look for a previously installed version.  If you have installed CS4, it will proceed automatically to install CS5.  If you did not install CS4, just use its serial number when prompted. (NOTE:  This is based on the assumption that CS was indeed a qualifying version to upgrade to CS4.  I don't remember what the requirements were back then.)
I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8 (CS), 9.0.2 (CS2), 10.1 (CS3) and 11.0.1 (CS4) installed on my machine.  All those are upgrades from my original full version 4 of Photoshop from many, many years ago.  I can run all of them on my machine, even simultaneously If I wanted to, by launching the older version(s) first.  In practice, I have run two versions simultaneously without any problems.
Just have your CS4 serial number handy.
Now, be advised that an awful lot of users are having nightmarish difficulties with the CS5 installer.  If you run into trouble, don't blame it on the serial number, just blame the extraordinarily incompetent members of the pathetic installer team.  That's a team outside of the Photoshop engineering team that has proven a disgraceful embarrassment to Adobe engineers and executives.  A senior program manager has even admitted in private correspondence that he can't write in public what he would like to do to the members of the installer team.
    Matt J Dawson wrote:
… (would Tai Lao be able to install CS5 if he wanted too I wonder...???).
Of course I could, if I wanted to and had an Intel machine.  However, I have rejected Leopard and Snow Leopard, and I will stay with CS4 and Tiger 10.0.4.11 for the foreseeable future, which means for the remainder of my life expectancy, as I can't afford a new machine.

Matt, the "3 version back upgrade policy" simply means that you have to have a valid serial number for one of the three versions, and you do have a valid number for CS4, which in turn was based on your valid number for CS.
    Stop tormenting yourself.

  • Upgrade to CS4 web premium . . . or wait for CS5 ?

The question I have for anyone who may have some insight:  Is there anything groundbreaking in the works for Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Illustrator in CS5 which is due to be released in about 6 months ?
We have CS3 Web Standard, and now want to upgrade to Web Premium so we can get Photoshop and Illustrator which we now need, but with some pain could probably find a way to hold off for another 6 months .... if it was worth the wait that is. We don't necessarily need (and can't afford) the latest Software version all the time, but has there been any discussion about Improvements or New Features in the next release that's going to make us regret not waiting .......... ?
    * We are a small home business, but don't want to miss out on any major changes if you know what I mean . . .

I wouldn't expect anything groundbreaking from one version to the next.  It sometimes comes down to maximizing your operating system to take advantage of speed boosts in both the OP and CS applications.  Your existing CS3 system may not be compatable with the requirements of CS5 whatever they may be, or not.  It's hard to say.  If you are planning on getting new hardware ( sounds like you are not ), then you may want to wait. If you plan on using your existing hardware, you may be able to upgrade to CS4.  But from the sounds of it, CS3 and Tiger is a pretty good combination and you will be able to get away with using that for awhile.  There have been significant fixes from CS2 to CS4, where CS3 had it's problems in Illustrator ( not sure about PS ).  Adobe sometimes throws a bone out to people who buy CS4 and get a break when they ante up for CS5, just be aware of the system requirements.

  • How to upgrade multiple CS4 WEB Premium to multiple Creative Cloud using the same Adobe account?

    Hi all!
    Sorry for my english speaking...
On my company Adobe Account I registred three Adobe CS4 Web Premium, that I use in my company on three different PC's.
Now I would to upgrade my three Adobe CS4 Web Premium buying three Creative Cloud subscriptions with the special discount that I find on https://creativecloud-specialoffer.adobe.com/special-offer/?loc=en_US .
So I registred three orders of Creative Cound subscriptions on my Adobe Account, but today I got a e-mail from Adobe that says that Adobe refuses two of my orders because only one Creative Cloud subscription is admissible for each Adobe Account that has at least one Adobe product serial number registred.
How can I solve this issue? Must I split my three Adobe CS4 Web Premium on three different Adobe IDs? Can I do it?
    Many thanks,
    Walter

    Hi Carol,
many many thanks for your quick reply!
In other words I must pay a 61$/mo subscription instead the 36$/mo subscriptions for 2 of 3 users, isnt it?
But in this way I will spend about 600$ more for the first year.
I always buyed genuine Adobe products, it is demralizing to spend 600$ only because a multiple-subscription restriction fot those that registred all the products per Adobe ID...
    Other solutions?

  • Working on a CS4 project in CS5.5 - Flash won't let me save FLA normally (ctrl+s)

I started working on a Flash project and I'll be moving it back and  forth between two different computers. The project was originally  started in Flash CS4. The other computer has Flash CS5.5 installed. So  when in CS5.5 I save the fla as a CS4 version FLA.
I hit Save As... and  then from the Save As Type pull-down menu I selected CS4 Fla document and I  assumed that from then on I could just hit ctrl+s to save the project  and it would maintain the CS4 version. But that isn't quite what's  happening. Every time I hit ctrl+s a Flash Compatibility Warning pops up  and tells me that I need to use Save As... and then Save As Type again  to keep it a CS4 document.
So basically, from what I understand, when working on a CS4 project in CS5.5 - I can't use Save. I can only use Save as...
This is really annoying because I am accustomed to hitting ctrl+s pretty often.
And  now EVERY TIME I wish to do a simple save, I need to hit ctrl+shift+s,  then select CS4 from the Save As Type menu, then hit save, and then  click YES when asked if to overwrite the previous file with the same  name.
    Is this a bug?

Flash will let me Embed the FLV but not let me use it for playback.
