Upgrade trouble - invalid serial number??

Hello all,
Maybe I'm just missing something obvious here, but I'm trying to upgrade Logic 7.2 to Logic Studio.
Early on in the install there is a prompt for entering your serial number. I do that, using the serial number on the Logic Studio install documentation. Then I receive another prompt asking for my original serial number, or to insert my xskey. My xskey is always attached to my mac, so I figured I don't have an original serial number, and my xskey is attached, so I select continue. But then I get a prompt that reads "The serial number you have entered is invalid", and the install can't continue.
Is there something I am supposed to enter in that second serial number prompt? Seems like my xskey is not being recognized. But my 7.2 install runs flawlessly.
Now this is the interesting thing, the xskey I have is old (been using Logic for years). It's one of the old Emagic keys (the blue one), not the Apple xskeys. Could this be a problem? Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a work-around?
Thanks in advance.

That has to be frustrating waiting for that...
My L8 upgrade is ordered, hope I don't go through that.
So do you have the original manual that came with L7 upgrade?
Mine has it on the inside cover, haven't looked at the dongle # to see if they are the same.
As well, is your dongle updated to the latest? That's what I had trouble doing with the 7 upgrade, I had to update the dongle first. Mind you you're using 7.xx so it should already upgraded, but just thinking.

  • Upgrade and invalid serial number

I am trying to upgrade FCS to FCS2. Both are academic versions. It keeps telling me that the serial number on FCS is invalid. A search brought up that FCP5 cannot be upgraded to FCP6 in the academic version. Is the same true for FCS?

After calling Apple and being transfered eight different times, I was told that I could not return the upgrade for a full version because it had been more than two weeks since I had ordered it. I didn't try installing it because I was in the middle of a large project and didn't want any problems. After explaining that I had just thrown $500 away, the person spoke to his supervisor and allowed me to return the upgrade. David S. was correct in that the academic version cannot be upgraded. However, I don't see this mentioned anywhere in the Apple store for education. I thought I had done this when I switch from FCP2 to FCP3, but that's been awhile back so maybe I'm wrong.

  • Invalid Serial number during upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5

I upgraded our Xserve from 10.4.11 to 10.5 and when it first boots after the install, I get to the enter serial number screen. At this point the 10.5 serial number I enter goes through validating and then says invalid serial number format. I have several serial numbers I have tried so I know that a wrong serial is not the cause. I have tried connecting from another computer with server admin and changing the serial number that way, which when, I do shows the 10.4 serial number but then says invalid serial when entering the 10.5 serial. It seems like it is confused on what the serial number or format should be. Is there a way to manually install a serial number or at least get past it so I can then install the most recent update and hope that fixes this issue? I see there were some similar issues with the 10.5.8 update but I think the install dvd is only 10.5 or 10.5.1 maybe.

Well I finally got past it by ssh'ing into the server while it was at the serial number page and issuing it this command and specifying my serial number
    /System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setServerSerialNumber xsvr-xxx-xxx-x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-x
I then rebooted the server and it came back to the same enter serial number screen but upon entering it one more time, it validated and is happy now.

  • Invalid serial  number CS2 Photoshop upgrade?

    mmail@morninmail
invalid serial number when trying to upgrade Photoshop CS2  Harddrive crashed, trying to reload. Could not unlock.

In all your responses not once did you give the actual error message it displayed.  Was it "Invalid Serial Number"?  If so, in what dialog did it display that message?  Maybe even a screen grab would be helpful to show it.
I know you've been around the block with support, and they're really the ones you're supposed to be able to get help from, but if you're going to ask a question here and expect more than sympathy, how about providing:
    1.  The exact sequence of steps you're going through.
    2.  What goes wrong.
    3.  The exact wording of any and all error messages.
    4.  Info from the Windows logs.
It may be that someone here will recognize a problem they've solved and say something like, "Oh, that problem needs you to use the licensing repair tool" or "you need to run the installer as Administrator" or similar.
At this point you just haven't provided any information about what's wrong.

  • Invalid serial number when upgrading to Aperture 2

I purchased aperture 2 upgrade version and I tried all afternoon to install it. There was no problem inputing the serial number that comes with the DVD. I didn't have my serial number for 1.5 so I opened Aperture 1.5 and look up the original serial number. It kept telling me that I have an invalid serial number for the original version. I can't install the upgrade. What do I do?

Is your original version an educational one? What you have reported sounds like what happened to me.
There is no upgrade for the educational version. You must purchase a new 2.0 version. (You must read the small print at the bottom of the Aperture ad to find this out.) (it's as though it's a secret.)

  • Invalid Serial number and RAM memory upgrade problem

    1. Please, I am trying to reinstall Snow Leopard, at the end is coming
"Invalid serial number entered Setup requires a valid serial number. The serial number has the format XSVR-106-x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-x!
    but my serial number is:
    C07XXXXXXXXX!
    What is wrong?
    2. When I try to install 1 DDR Kingston 8GB PC3 10600 CL9 204-PIN SODIMM is coming a clicking sound, What is the problem?
    Thanks.

All OS X Server 10.6 purchases include a product serial number key, and this serial number key is a required part of the OS X Server installation.   This is a product activation key, and as shown in the display this key begins with XSVR-106 for OS X Server 10.6.  This key was included with the paperwork from the original purchase on a couple of stickers on a card, if this system was acquired with OS X Server 10.6.  If this OS X Server 10.6 media was acquired from elsewhere, then look for a sticker with the media and packaging.  Otherwise, please contact the vendor and ask for the serial number for the media you've acquired.  If you've purchased this Mac Mini with OS X Server 10.6 from Apple directly and no longer have the key, then you'll want to contact Apple Support for assistance.
As for your second (memory) question, presumably the memory is not compatible with your particular Mac Mini, or there's a problem with the memory itself.  There are usually tech specs available listing the particular requirements for the memory for a particular Mac Mini system.  If you purchased this memory from Kingston specifically for this particular system, contact the Kingston support folks and ask for assistance.
If you post the specific model of Mac Mini, somebody here can probably locate the memory requirements.

  • Invalid serial number Acrobat 8.0 Professional

I am encountering an error when I try to install Acrobat Professional 8.0. I keep getting an invalid serial number error. The error originated as a result of attempting to move the license from an old Windows XP machine to a new one with Windows 7. When I attempt to install I get an invalid serial number error, however it is the same serial number which was used to activate on the older machine which has now had the software removed and the license deactivated. I have tried the trouble shooting steps on the adobe help center website.

If it was an upgrade, it is likely the S/N that is being requested is of the qualifying product.

  • "Invalid Serial Number" Acrobat Professional 8.0

""Invalid Serial Number: The serial number you entered is not valid."
I installed Acrobat 8 on a previous computer and it worked fine.  Computer eventually was retired.  Then tried to install it on a new machine... in July.  Two series of customer support cases and 8 phone calls to CS later, I still do not have it installed and these cases have been closed by Adobe.  In the most recent closed case note from Adobe, the note reads:
"As we have checked the order details, you did not purchasd any download right or media for the product. Kindly contact any reseller near your
area to get the download for this product."
I am staring at my software license certificate right now, along with the software disk.  In a previous call, they said they would give me a download link to resolve my outstanding installation issues.  Then they closed  the case with the above note.
Should it take 6 months to install a piece of software?  I think the answer is a resounding "no".

Sorry to hear about all the troubles.
The only suggestion I have left is to uninstall Acrobat then run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility to clear out any remaining bits then try it again. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much that us fellow users can do to help other than to tell you to upgrade to 9. I work for a state agency as well so I understand that it may not be an option.
    RBKoz wrote:
While I could try that, during my time on the phone with Adobe support, they had given me alternative serial numbers to try, and none worked.  Local help support tried to remove CS3 from my computer and installing Acrobat, didn't work, so I do not have high hopes.

  • Photoshop CS2- Invalid Serial Number

I am installing my Adobe Photoshop CS2 on Windows Vista.
When I try to install the program after entering my serial number that is on the CD case,
the program states "Invalid Serial Number."
Customer Service gave me new serial numbers to attempt at fixing this issue and those numbers still yielded an "Invalid Serial Number" error.
Tech Support had me create new accounts with admin rights on my laptop (which didn't work) and then gave me a link
about the issue that had nothing to do with me since I have no VCOM software on my laptop (so that too was bogus).
I requested to speak to a manager where the agent diverted with giving me solutions that did not work also in which
he had me use this registry cleaner software and it still didn't work (I didn't have previous adobe software on my computer,
so it wasn't a surprise that it didn't work)
So... Does anyone know how I can install my program on my laptop without getting an Invalid Serial Number error?????
Maybe regular users have some answers.

I've only had similar happen once, when I upgraded AI over about 3-4 versions. My S/N was from the first PC release, and the internal database in the upgrade did not recognize the format, or the S/N. In that case, a 5 min. call to C/S resulted in a number to enter from Adobe, and then it took my S/N fine.
Obviously, you've gone that route, and it's not working. Seems that things have changed with C/S, but I am talking over a decade ago. Are you talking to C/S (Customer Service), or T/S (Technical Service)? For "sales" related things, I have found that C/S is the better. I am assuming that they are still separate departments, though both might well be in India.
Now, one question, you say that C/S told you to run on one machine with "administrative rights." Did you try as an Administrator? These are similar, but there can be differences.
Wish I had something else to offer.
    Good luck,

  • Acrobat 8 - switch hw and os from win xp to win 8.1 - installation says 'invalid serial number' - although I am very sure, it is :o)

    Hi folks,
I am switching from my former pc (win XP) to a new one (Win 8.1).
As I wanted to move my acrobat 8 installation to the new computer, I did the following right now:
    - I deactivated the license (from within acrobat 8) on the old computer
    - I uninstalled acrobat 8 on the old computer and restarted it
    - I downloaded acrobat 8 from the adobe website on the new computer
    - I startet the installation, which asks for the serial number
    - I logged in to my acrobat-account and found my serialnumber there
    - I checked this serial number with my paper-copies and invoice (bought ion 2007): it's allright
    - I typed in the serialnumber / I copied it in from the account / I copied it from the email I recieved in 2007 / I checked it twice and more:
The installation-tool says 'invalid serial number' - although I am very sure, it's the right one.
    I cant go further.
What is going wrong or am I doing wrong?
    thanx for your help

  • Invalid Serial Number after reboot?

I just rebooted a server and when it came back ARD was off, along with a bunch of other services that were supposed to start at boot. Under the serial number in Server Admin it had the text (in red): "invalid serial number serial number already registered". I got it to take the serial number by setting it using "/System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setServerSerialNumber <serial>". I want to just reboot again to make sure everything starts up okay, but I want to figure out why this happened first.
The server is a G5 Xserve that had Panther on it. I upgraded to Tiger last week. While upgrading I got the same message after a reboot but just assumed I had unintentionally reused a serial number. I grabbed a brand new unopened Tiger Server OS box and used that serial, so I know the serial is not in use anywhere on site. Can anyone tell me how the OS checks the serial, and maybe supply me with a clue as to why this happened? The only changes to the server I have made were the installation from source of Apache 2.2.0, PHP 5.1.2, Subversion 1.3.0, and MySQL 5.0.18 from an installer package. All were installed into /usr/local/.
    15" Al PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I'm having the same problem. I did not start with a 10.3 server - this is a fresh install. But I built one server and then cloned the drive to several others and replaced the hostnames, IPs and serials. Now one constantly comes up with an invalid serial number on reboot.

  • Acrobat 8 3D "invalid serial number" message

I'm getting the message, "You have entered an invalid serial number. Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat 8 professional and enter in a valid serial number when asked."
However, the fixes on the Adobe forums for this problem state that it occurs due to Creative Suite 3 (CS3) installations, but I haven't had the CS3 installed on this Windows XP SP2 machine.
I only have standalone InDesign CS3 installed, not the suite. I had the beta standalone IDCS3 installed, and uninstalled it before installing the shipping version.
I had the shipping version of FrameMaker 8 standalone installed. I uninstalled it before installing the beta Technical Communications Suite (TCS). I uninstalled it, restarted Windows XP SP2, then installed the shipping version of TCS, registered it, and authorized it.
With the exception of Acrobat 8 3D, the TCS applications run fine.
I've tried repairing the Acrobat 8 3D component of TCS, and also tried updating to 8.1.1, but no change in the message.
I've only found solutions for the invalid license error that relate to CS3, not TCS.
Before I uninstall TCS, which takes over an hour, and then run the CS3 cleanup script at level 2 - the Adobe knowledgebase recommendation, I'd like to know if this procedure has been successful for anyone who has had the problem, but hadn't installed CS3. I don't want to find out that running the CS3 cleanup script level 2 causes damage because the suite isn't and wasn't installed.
    Has anyone done this?

Arrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh!!! .....<G><br /><br />Hi, Arnis:<br /><br />There is some perverse pleasure in stumbling into a near-lethal (or at least crazy-making) situation in beta testing, and solving it as well, for the benefit of others in the community of users we all belong to. If only the bug lists would honor these brave souls by naming the bug discovery after them, as well as identifying them with prosaic bug-database numbers<G>.<br /><br />Your solution was very helpful. Here are some notes that may be helpful to others. I'm also reporting this to the beta program.<br /><br />* Removing TCS with Add/Remove Programs didn't fix it. In addition, somehow, although TCS was removed from the application list in A/R, it seemed to be on my system, even after restarting the computer and Windows! I could launch some of the applications, but because it seemed so uncertain, I didn't want to stop at this point and pray nothing would go wrong later. <br /><br />* I ran Microsoft Install Repair Utility, which seemed not to do much. <br /><br />* I rebooted and reinstalled TCS, but had the same problem with Acrobat 3D, so I figured the cleaning wasn't complete. So I uninstalled it, then ran Microsoft Install Repair again, after which...<br /><br />* I copied a bunch of settings files and third-party scripts and plug-ins from Programs/Application Support/Adobe, and my User/Application Support/Adobe folders for the installed ID CS3, and also zipped the whole installation to preserve any information I might need to recover or information about where things need to go in the directory tree, before uninstalling InDesign CS3 and InCopy CS3. Then I ran the Adobe clean-up script level 2, which ran the Microsoft utility.<br /><br />Just to be "extra careful," I ran the Microsoft utility separately; This time it proposed to remove itself! Must be something to do with having nothing left to clean up? Removing it results in the Adobe cleanup script level 2 reporting that the utility isn't installed, needs to be, and quits. Circles within circles - confusing in its helpful way, or helpful in its confusing way.<br /><br />* I ran the Adobe CS3 Clean Up Script level 2, in the preview mode, to see what it planned to do. It proposed to remove InDesign and InCopy CS3 directories, so I removed them before proceeding. <br /><br />* Finally, ran the CS3 clean up script level 2 for real, rebooted, installed TCS, gave the serial number, and was back in business...almost. <br /><br /> - Applications launched OK, including Acrobat 8 3D, but, attempting to save a FM document as PDF displayed an error that Distiller couldn't run because Acrobat 8 3D wasn't activated (even though the TCS activation was working for all apps in the suite). While I was doing another slow burn because this was a reprise of one of the problems that sent me on this Odyssey hours and days earlier, Lo! and Behold!, Distiller launched, then Acrobat opened to display the PDF. I'm guessing that Acrobat 8 wasn't *running* at the time I did Save As PDF, so the error was an error in detecting Acrobat. Man!<br /><br />* I was going to leave out the part where I mistakenly entered the beta-test serial number when launching the new TCS installation, which was accepted and worked up to the point that the validator closed the application! The only solution was to uninstall, run MS utility for good luck, pray, and reinstall, which was successful. I provided the correct serial number, and am back in business. <br /><br />This is pilot error, but it reveals a bug that should be fixed - the application should not give a green check mark (valid serial) indicator to a timed-out serial number. The serial should be invalid if it is invalid.<br /><br />Another bug is that the option to activate the suite by checking an application in the final screen should not provide check boxes for the three applications - the check boxes should be radio buttons. Checking multiple applications opens each checked application and prompts for validation. Very confusing!!!<br /><br />Hoping that this helps others stay out of trouble, or that this helps them find solutions.<br /><br />Regards,<br /><br />Peter Gold<br />KnowHow ProServices
