Upgraded arris hi-speed router to my xfinity, now my old hp4000 laserjet won't print ethernet routed

I just upgraded to an Arris hi-speed router to my Xfinity but now my old HP 4000n Laserjet won't print ethernet routed... What to do?
It worked simply fine from my previous Netgear Router that I ran off the previous old xfinity modem (w/o builtin) router. Much Thanks for your step by step instruction.  I am running Windows 7 fyi.

On the front of the printer, probably in the Network menu, can you tell if the printer has a valid IP address, indicating that it is properly connected to your new router?
If so (and I would guess that it is), then your PC needs to re-establish communication with it:
First, go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
Next:
1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

My two printers stopped working after upgrading to 10.4.7. both printers connected directlty through USB. I have a Stylus C82 and a Stylus 740. I switched to the S 740 thinking it was a printer problem, but after printing normally a few pages, the same happened to the S 740.Won't print with black ink, the printer head moves as if printing, but the page comes out blank. I have reset the printers from both, the the Printer Browser window and the Printer Setup utility using Reset Printers. (Nozzles and Ink are fine on the printers). I have tried to print docs in different applications (Word, TextEdit, etc) but the same happens. I have reinstalled OS10.4.7 from CD but still the same problem.

      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

  • I just upgraded OS X to 10.6.7 and now Aperture (3.1.2) won't launch.  Any troubleshooting suggestions (short of re-installing Aperture)?

Help!  I just upgraded my early 2008 MacBook Pro 4,1 from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.7.  Everything appears to be working fine, except for Aperture 3.1.2, which won't launch - gives an error message which states that "there is a problem" and to "check with the developer to make sure Aperture works with this version of Mac OS X" ( I have to admit I got a chuckle at that, since it's Apple's own effing product!).  Any suggestions short of reinstalling Aperture?
    Thanks,
    John

Sorry you'll need to re-install Aperture see: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3485
And while the web page mentions 10.6.4 it still holds for 10.6.7

  • Appleworks won't print after upgrading to 10.4

I had bought Appleworks and it was working fine and then a few months later upgraded to OS 10.4.2 Now appleworks (the installed version) won't print (I deleted the other). They are the exact same version. My printer works fine in other applications. I made sure the printer was selected in appleworks printer set up also. I also reset permissions to make sure something wasn't messed up.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Non-Wireless Capable Router/Modem for Xfinity???

    Non-Wireless Capable Router/Modem for Xfinity/Comcast???
Apologies up front since I’m sure I have the terminology wrong, but here’s the situation:
Currently we have a modem (or router or cable-modem, I don’t know the difference) that we rent from Xfinity/Comcast. It is a Model DHG536C, Thomson RCA. I’m pretty sure (but not 100% sure) that this doesn’t have any wireless signal emanating from it. On one side of this box is a cable TV type connector from the outside world, and on the other is an Ethernet-type cable.
The Ethernet-type cable goes from this Comcast box to our Apple Airport Extreme. This is the 6th generation model ME918LL/A 802.11AC.  From the Airport Extreme we send internet access to Apple devices through the house, both via wireless and also cables (USB and Ethernet).
Comcast sent us a “free” replacement modem (we rent the modem from them) a year or two ago so that we could take advantage of some new capabilities they installed on our line (don’t know specifically what they were, but possibly speedier access). However, the install was a bit of a nightmare since the replacement they sent also emitted a wireless signal and there were issues between the wireless emitted between by their new modem versus our Airport Extreme. Comcast is justifiably not renowned for their customer support, and given my lack of computer knowledge, I couldn’t figure it out. So we returned the upgrade modem and stayed with our old one.
We are now getting requests from Comcast to throw out our old modem and install another new one. So here’s the question: can we get a modem that doesn’t emit a wireless signal, that just converts the cable signal from outside the house into an Ethernet cable that we can plug into our Airport Extreme? That way we shouldn’t run into any of the issues we had last time.
    And two related questions:
Will this noticeably speed up our internet service? We’re actually happy with what we have right now but perhaps we are just used to it.
Can I buy this new modem on Amazon or from Apple to bypass Comcast (to get rid of the monthly rental fee, and to get something that may have better customer support)?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
And any teaching/education about the proper name for the Comcast “box” without wireless, and our Airport Extreme would be fun as well (router, modem, cable-modem, etc).
    Thank you!

So here’s the question: can we get a modem that doesn’t emit a wireless signal, that just converts the cable signal from outside the house into an Ethernet cable that we can plug into our Airport Extreme?
Simple modems do exist, but the question would be whether one of them would be compatible with the Comcast service.  So, you really have a question for Comcast support here.
The question would be whether Comcast can provide a simple modem.........like you have now.......and not a modem/router or gateway type of device, which you really don't need, since you already have a router, and just need a simple modem.
Will this noticeably speed up our internet service? We’re actually happy with what we have right now but perhaps we are just used to it.
Possibly, if you are already paying for faster service, but your current modem is not capable of working at higher speeds.  Again, a question for Comcast support here.
Can I buy this new modem on Amazon or from Apple to bypass Comcast (to get rid of the monthly rental fee, and to get something that may have better customer support)?
Possibly, if Comcast can provide you with a list of modems that will work with their service.  Apple does not make modems, so they would not be able to help on that product.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
There are a number of factors in the 'speed' equation. Any or all of them can affect the 'observed' speed of your connection.
    1. Are you in a neighborhood full of WiFi routers (and thus, lots of WiFi interference)? I can 'see' at least 22 other WiFi routers from my living room!
    2. What is the maximum connect speed and band and bandwidth available from your wireless router. Is it 802.11n or the older 802.11a/b/g? 300Mbits or 150Mbits? 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz or both? Does your router measure (QoS) Quality of Service and can it change 'channels' automatically?
    3. What is the observed strength of your wireless connection? Are you getting at least 80% signal when connected? Are there other people in your family also using significant bandwidth at the same time (Netflix, streaming video, streaming audio, game systems)
    4. What is the "advertised" speed of your current ISP connection?
    5. What is the measured throughput of your current setup.  Go to speedtest.net or use the free speedtest.net app available in the App Store.  Try several times, from different locations in your home, and at different times of day and night.
I have AT&T DSL advertised at 3Mbit/sec down and 512Kbit/sec up. My Speedtest.net measured throughput is about 2.4 Mbit/sec downstream and upstream is about 0.4Mbit/sec. I'm using a Motorola Netopia 2210-2 DSL modem. I have no problem viewing YouTube videos and other mobile video content on the iPad 2.  I'm connected wirelessly to a D-Link DIR-655 Gigabit router rated at 150Mbps at 2.4Ghz (only) with 802.11 b/g/n enabled. The interior of my home is within a range of 30-50 feet from the router and no more than 1 wall.  It is a single level concrete slab foundation of about 1500 sq. ft. with cathedral ceilings. I have successfully streamed ESPN3.com on my MacBook at the same time my son was streaming another ESPN3.com game on his MacBook Pro. I've streamed YouTube videos while my son was watching a NetFlix movie on his Wii game system. He's also successfully used Skype for extended 'teleconferences.' None of my devices are connected to HDMI on a large screen TV. 95% of the time, I can do iChat video without any signal breakup to my son (who is at a college with a Gigabit (1000Mbit) wired connection!). 5% of the time the connection drops. We haven't tried FaceTime (designed for mobile connections to be much less bandwidth-intensive, from what I understand) simply because we both have iChat on our computers.
So for me, a 3Mbit DSL connection is absolutely adequate, given all the other parameters mentioned. As the car manufacturers say, "Your mileage may vary."

  • Upgrading to high speed internet enhanced with budget local phone service?

Searched for this issue but can't locate anything on here.  I have gotten conflicting information on this by phone and online chat.  When I click on "Order Now" for High Speed Internet Enhanced (29.99) it takes me to the bundle page where it wants me to add TV service and upgrade my phone.  All I want to do is upgrade to enhanced from the regular High Speed (19.99).
I don't know which dept I was connected to 1st on the phone, but her system wasn't allowing her to order it for me.  She referred me to E center who wasn't sure and asked the online chat people sitting near him who said I have to upgrade my phone as well to get enhanced?
Is this true?  I need to have a regional calling plan to upgrade to High Speed Internet Enhanced?  Instead of paying an extra 10 bucks a month, it jumps to an extra 25 to 30 per month.
Does anyone else have budget phone service with High Speed Enhanced?

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
        news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

I've got an apple 3TB time capsule.  It was working fine until we moved to a new house.  The day the ISP showed up to upgrade my speed it stopped working.  Now will not pick up signal.  What happened what do I do?

What signal is it picking up? Are you joining wireless network? If so don't.. it is really poor way to run things.
Is it connected to a cable modem? Full router or just a modem type?
    Try a reset?
Plug in via ethernet.. turn off everything.. wait 5min then restart cable modem.. if that doesn't work, give it a longer off cycle.. 15min or overnight.

  • Will upgrading ram improve speed in Mac and windows (VMware fusion)?

I Am using VMware fusion for music production and that program requires a lot of workspace. I have a MacBook Pro 4gb ram and when I turn VMware on it goes to 2 gb ram in Mac and 2 gb ram in windows. My Mac speed is normal when VMware fusion is turned off but when I turn it on my Mac is very slow. Will upgrading ram improve speed in mac and also in windows (windows is also very slow)
Btw my english isn't very good

Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM hungry.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
In your case it will most likely help. You should plan on at least 8 GBs or more, depending upon what your model supports.

  • Would upgrading my internet speed improve Netflix performance?

I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding netflix and ISPs which I'm not really interested in. I just know my netflix streaming is terrible right now and I would be willing to upgrade my internet speed if it meant that would improve. Any idea if it would? Thank you/

    NO! Don't do it.
You'll just be throwing more money at Verizon with no change in performance. Realistically you could probably downgrade your speed, save yourself money, and see no change in your Netflix performance.

I Upgraded my MBP mid 2010 to Yosemite and now it will not connect to Internet using a system that involves typing in my user name and password in an auto pop up window provided by Cisco security systems. Before, using Mavericks, it worked perfectly: boot up MBP and the Cisco pop up auto loaded. Typed it my password and hey presto, connected to Internet. Now, zilch. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco cos my iPad connects ok, as do both my iPhone's.
the problem is with Yosemite therefore. Please help. I tried all the usual diags, etc to no avail.

  • HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer - Firmware Upgrade

In her apartment, my elderly mother has an HP LaserJet Pro P1102w printer, that I set up for her.
It’s hooked up, via WiFi, to her Router that's attached to her Cable Modem.
She doesn't have her own PC. She has only the printer.
When the printer was first purchased, I brought the printer and my Windows XP laptop to her home and installed the printer there.
I email documents to her printer's HP ePrint email address, and I also print web pages to the printer using Google Cloud Print. I do this from my own home, to send her information from the Internet.
An email was received today, saying the following:
"A free firmware upgrade is required to keep your ePrint and associated Print Apps service working. Please go to www.hp.com/go/eprint, download the newest firmware, and continue using your ePrint solution. If you do not complete the upgrade, your ePrint and Print Apps may not work after Hewlett-Packard has finished a service upgrade on 08/07/2013.
Devices requiring the free firmware upgrade are as follows:
HP LaserJet Pro P1100 Series (model HP LaserJet Pro P1102w)”
Is there any way for me to use my Windows XP laptop, to connect to the printer, remotely over the Internet, via the printer's HP ePrint email address, or via the HP Connected account, or in any other way,
and initiate the printer’s firmware upgrade, without leaving my home?
    Thank you.

  • Printer won't print after replacing router

    HI,
I just bought a new Imac AND an extreme base station (the system is 10.6.3snow leopard).
I also have few other computers (mac book pro that I upgraded to system snow leopard), an old G4 and a pc.
All these are connected to a network (which was not the best set up but was working fine: I have a cable connection + the router (now the extreme station) + a hub (ethernet) that is where all the printers, the old mac and the pc are connected). Before instead of the extreme we had an express station. (that was working fine before I replace my router with the extreme station)
We bought a new HP color printer and the old B&W IP address was confused with the color one).
Someone told us that we needed to change our router. so we did.
I spent the entire day re-configuring the network: Finally I got internet to work.
Then, I got the color printer to work (plugged through Ethernet-Bonjour), and it finally worked.
BUT my HP b&W 5100 series won't work!!
Some tech from a shop said it might not be supported by Snow Leopard!
I tried to go to HP website to see if I could download a newest version of the drivers but I cannot see anything!!
I would also like to get my old HP laserjet 4100 series to work again.
    Can anyone help us??
It's been a nightmare and a lot of time consuming since I bought this new technologies!!
    THanks in advance.
PS If anyone tells me to post on the right form... can you please make the link to that forum because I don't understand how this is working...

    On your Mac, open:
System preferences > Network > (whatever your connection) and examine the IPv4 Address.
Wired routers most often use local addresses in the 192.168.xxx.yyy range
Wireless Routers most often use local addresses in the 10.10.xxx.yyy range.
These ranges (along with a few others) are reserved for sets of "private" addresses, that are not visible on the Internet.
The Router will usually be located at kkk.lll.mmm.01
Whatever the range you are using, all the devices with similar addresses can talk freely to each other without any intervention. Any devices with sharply different addresses (such as the entirety of the Internet) must use the Router as their "agent" to communicate.
You want your printers to have addresses in the same range as everything else. If you find you have two non-overlapping ranges active, you will need to demote one of your Routers to be only a wireless access point, not a full Router.

  • Connect MiFi 4510L to Ethernet Router/Network

What is the simplest way to connect the MiFi 4510L to my home ethernet router/network?
I have a PC (Windows XP) and printer (HP 7310c) that are both connected by ethernet to my current wireless router (NetGear WGR614). I also have a laptop that has WiFi built into it. So, connecting the laptop to the MiFi 4510L is not a problem. But, I would like to connect my other ethernet-based devices to the MiFi 4510L.
I know that I can plug a USB WiFi adapter into my computer (running Windows XP) and then I could attach the network printer to the computer and share it. So, that would be one option. But, I would like other options because I would like to receive WiFi signals from the MiFi 4510L in my basement. I can get WiFi in the basement with my current NetGear wireless router, but not with the MiFi 4510L.
I was wondering if a wireless repeater with LAN ports would do the trick of allowing me to use ethernet for my PC and printer, and get the extended WiFi range that I currently have with my NetGear wireless router.

    @willzz999,
I really appreciate the answer. I did find a Wireless Extender (NetGear Universal WiFi Range Extender WN2000RPT) at my local Best Buy and thought I would try it.
Just as you indicated in your reply, my existing router and the MiFi 4510L router are both configured to assign IP addresses, which results in conflicts. I know that it would be possible to configure both devices so that DHCP conflicts wouldn't occur, but it would take me a lot of time to learn how to do this.
Here is what I finally did:
    1. Configure the WN2000RPT as a wireless bridge. The device has four ethernet ports, just like my current router.
    2. Disconnect the wired devices from the router and connect them to the WN2000RPT.
    3. Turn off the router.
    4. When I initially installed the printer, I assigned it a static IP address that was beyond the range of the DHCP for the wireless router IP address assignments. I had to make sure that the static IP address was being referenced by the machines that were trying to print.
The MiFi 4510L supports 5 wireless connections. It also assigns 9 IP addresses. So, this means that it can support the four ethernet connections on the WN2000RPT, in addition to the 5 wireless connections it already supports. One wireless connection (and IP address) will be used by the WN2000RPT. However, the WN2000RPT also sends out a WiFi broadcast, so the wireless devices can connect to it, also. This means that the MiFi 4510L - WN2000RPT combination will support 8 devices on my home internet, without configuring subnets.
BTW, I intend to replace my current wireless broadband service with the Verizon 4G service using the MiFi 4510L. The limits, speed, and price for my current wireless broadband service are nearly identical to those for the Verizon 4G service. This means that I can have essentially the same home Internet service with the addition of being able to take the MiFi 4510L on the road. I am not depending upon the home internet service for business usage, so it's ok if there a few glitches while Verizon is rolling the 4G out.
