  • Usb & sdcard port wont work in windows 7

    Hi all,
my usb & sdcard port wont work in windows 7, also i cant install drivers for coprocesor and the sm bus controller,   I have a macbook pro 13" A1278,
I have tryed to install the drivers from the osx cd,  but to no avail it just wont work,
    Please can anyone help

the reason i ask is base system device can be a few differant things but about 90% of what i have seen it show up is the card reader. try to uninstall anything in device manager that has to do with the mic and restart the laptop. this will allow windows to try to find and install the correct drivers. also open realtek HD audio manager and make sure the mic is not muted.

  • What is wrong with my 30" Cinema Display?  The USB and FireWire ports still work, but the screen is pitch black. When you plug it into the computer, it detects that it's a Cinema Display.

When you plug it into the computer, it detects that it's a Cinema HD but the screen is pitch black.
For some reason, the USB and FireWire ports still work.

If you shine a really bright light directly into the screen can you then see a faint image on the screen? If so, that would indicate the backlight has died (hardware failure) and the unit needs repairing.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad E530 - USB 3.0 Ports Not Working Code 10

Hi everyone, so I own a Lenovo E530 with Windows 7 and just earlier today I plugged in my optical mouse into it, about 10 minutes in, Windows gave me a "not enough power message" for my USB 3.0 ports on the left side and they just stopped working. I have 3 USB 3.0 ports on the left side of the laptop, and one USB 2.0 on the right which works just fine.
From there it gave me Code 10 for Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface in the Network Adapter section (which I was able to fix via a registry change) and now what is left to fix is the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller which I cannot seem to fix. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall processes, with Intel's own drivers and Lenovo drivers which were just older version of the Intel USB 3.0 drivers, over and over yet it is still stuck on Code 10, where it will not start.
I never really overused the USB ports either, aside from plugging in a portable USB fan and portable hard drive here and there, and a USB dongle for a wireless mouse and keyboard (Logitech all-in-ones), that is pretty much all I have done with it. I do not believe the ports are not bad or anything, although it may be a hardware problem, but all 3 USB ports still give power on my fan and external HDs when I plug it in, it is just that Windows does not recognize it and nothing happens when I plug something into. But on the other hand, the USB 2.0 port reads just fine and recognizes everything. I have also tried the Troubleshooter multiple times, but everytime it tries to reinstall I get the "Failed" message.
Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about.

I have tried reinstalling and uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for W7 using the ones listed on the drivers page through Lenovo and using the newest version fround on Intel's webpage as well. Having done these I still could not get it working, so I did a full reformat of the Hard Drive, from there I am able to get the USB 2.0 and 1 of the 3 USB 3.0 ports to work (the very top one above/left of the HDMI port) and recognize devices when I plug them into Windows. But this is working through not having the USB 3.0 Driver installed and just the basic one without having any updates/drivers installed on. Once I install the USB 3.0 Driver back it, it goes back to the original problem.
The problem still persists even though I have done multiple reformats, uninstall/reinstalls, updating to newest drivers and BIOS, etc. I have owned and still own a whole family of Lenovo laptops which still work perfectly fine, but this is the first time I have seen anything like this go wrong in a laptop. Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem? The laptop just went out of warranty a few months ago, and if I were to send it in and get it repaired would it cost me a lot?

  • W520, (2) USB 2.0 ports not working after updates

I find it rather odd that my 2x USB 2.0 ports go out after updating Lenovo, but the 2x USB 3.0 ports still work, and Bluetooth still works.  I did install the newer BIOS and the USB 3.0 update, before hand the ports were working fine.
right now I'm using the SATA/USB combo port, but I don't want to wear out the plug. My computer Lenovo solution center says there is a hardware device problem, but I can't find it doesn't appear to be any of the drivers, or the power manager.

  • K7n2 usb 2.0 ports not working

I have a K7N2 motherboard with a brand new install of Windows XP Home Edition with sp1. I have downloaded all the latest updates from Microsoft as well as updated my Award bios to v3.4. Running a XP 2100 with 512mb of Corsair ddr333 memory and a Geforce4 Ti4600 video card. I have installed the nforce driver pack 2.03 as well as nvidia graphics driver 44.04.
The problem is that I can not get my USB 2.0 ports to work at all either with a 2.0 device or a 1.1. In my device manager, it goes as far as to list 4 "unkown usb device" lines as well as the controller hub and root hubs.
    Any suggestions?

  • Usb port wont work on macbook pro 13" late 2011

    Hello, can anyone help please?
I have 2 usb ports but only 1 is working correctly, the other wont take flash drives or my iphone 4 they wont show in the finder or anywhere on my macbook, however my wd harddrive works fine in the same port.
just to be sure 1 port is working absolutely fine accepts flash drives and every thing this problem is only with one of the ports
This does seem to have happened after i installed mavericks but not sure if this is related

Though all USB ports may not have the same power output, based on what you describe on the 'suspect' port suggests a different issue.  Take the devices that will not work on the 'suspect' port with the MBP to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians inspect it.
You might try SMC and PRAM resets, but I have my doubts about success in your case:

These will not harm your MBP.

  • Mac Pro USB and FW800 ports not working

I've been reading tons of forum entries in the Apple Support Community and in other forums.  Nothing seems to answer quite what's going on with my Mac Pro Tower.
Here are the details and steps taken up to now:
    - I'm running a Mac Pro Tower (MacPro 3,1, 2x 2,8GHz Quad Core, Early 2008 model), currently running OS 10.6.8
    - I moved before the holidays in December and left my computer unplugged for over  month while away. Didn't have any issues before the move.
    - up until the last couple of weeks, I had actually been running on Leopard (yes, I'm a luddite!, please, no teasing )
    - I was trying to update my ipod touch's iOS and kept getting errors preventing it from completing the process. At first I thought it was an ipod app causing the issue after having read a few threads on that topic...
    - Also, on startup, the Mac started searching for a Bluetooth keyboard, of which I don't have, and would not detect my usb keyboard.  I would disconnect and reconnect the keyboard and the majority of the time, the Mac would then recognize my USB keyboard.
    - I decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard, which didn't help with the iPod update. I did not do a clean install.
    - Then I noticed that my USB stick wasn't working and tried it in all the usb ports (except the ones on the keyboard)
    - Also, I had removed and then reinstalled printer and scanner drivers for my All-in-one printer. After this I kept getting constant communication errors between the mac and the printer via the usb port, although I was able to print a test page.
    - I've used Hardware Test once which didn't detect any issue.
    - I reset the SMC
    - I reset the PRAM, and for a few seconds I was able to read from my USB stick, then never again, even after another PRAM reset.
    - I've cleaned the whole inside of the computer and checked for loose cables.  Cables are in so tight it's so hard to loosen them!
    - I now tested all the ports:
∞ the 2 front and 3 back USB ports are unresponsive to my usb key and to my VoyagerQ dock
∞ the front and back FW800 ports are unresponsive to my VoyagerQ dock
∞ However, the keyboard works in any fo the back ports and my USB stick is recorgnized by the USB port of the keyboard.
∞ I also plugged in my Logitech webcam into the keyboard and it works there but not in any other port.
∞ When I plug in USB powered speakers into any of the ports, they work fine
∞ And the FW400 ports are also working fine with my VoyagerQ dock
    - a few times, including once today, my mac restarted by itself.  The times before today, I thought it was because I was sort of moving back the computer in place, but today I was nowhere near the computer.
So what does this all mean? Should I do a clean install of the Mac OS? Or is it a problem with my Logic Board?
Any insight please would be helpful.  I had Apple Care and missed the reminder to renew it so I really hoping not to spend more money than necessary.

    Thanks Grant,
The battery is a start and something inexpensive to replace.
I did do a PRAM reset (command + option + P + R) and was able to hear the chime 4 times. I tried resetting it a number of times over the past week, as well as yesterday with no success in reviving the USB ports.  But isn't it weird that my USB powered speakers work by plugging them in any USB port (with the mini jack pugged in the back or front earphone plug)?
I did not use the USB ports on the keyboard until yesterday, so that is not the cause of the other USB and FW800 ports failing. But I'll follow your suggestion and not use them except for the mouse.
Another weird thing that happened yesterday, I have 16GB of RAM and I spent all day trying to troubleshoot a RAM issue that is magically fixed after leaving the computer on overnight to do an extended Hardware Test. The issue was:
    - Only 8 RAMS were being recognized
    - a red LED light appeared on the top riser
    - first I thought I had isolated the faulty RAM bar, and then a second one
    - Then going pair by pair again, I no longer saw the LED light
    - Put back all 8 bars, only 8 GB of RAM recognized
    - Left computer overnight running Hardware test (said it took almost 3 hours, with no errors)
    - Now all 16 GB are recognized!
    Thanks again for the tips

  • USB warning and ports not working after update to Snow Leopard from Tiger

I've gone for hours through all kinds of forums without finding a proper answer, so here I am.
This morning I've installed OS Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my iMac, previously I had OS Tiger 10.4.11 running. Everything seemed fine until I restarted and then I started getting "USB drawing too much power" promps all over the place even though the only thing that's attached to the iMac is the keyboard and the mouse (they both work fine). The process went like this:
The iMac is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo from october 2007
First I did an upgrade of my RAM, from 1GB to 2GB, that went ok.
Then I runned the install dvd for Snow Leopard, I did not perform a clean install, just did it over my old data. After restart, everything worked but i got this USB warning message, one of them. At that point my usb's still worked, (even though the warning) I could print and scan. To get rid of the warning, i resetted the PRAM and SMC, as suggested everywhere. After doing so, the promps multiplied and my usb ports ceased working, except for the keyboard and the mouse attached to it.
I've done the Apple Hardware Test, and it gives no malfunctions.
Firewire works fine, Isight buildt-in camera and bluetooth too.
I've tried all usb's and the keyboard will work in all of them, not like my printer and scanner which are completely ignored.
USB power warning also appears at restart with no deviced connected (no keyboard and mouse, i've tried).
I've also found in many forum entries  the possibility of a problem on the logic board, but since i've never had a problem with my imac until today i would not be sure about a hardware malfunction.
The last thing i've found around that could be a clue is something about the kernel extensions, but that's complete chinese for me, I'm  a mac plug&play user and not too much of a mac expert.
Does anybody have an idea about what could be going on? Should I perform a clean install of snow leopard? Would that solve the problem?
Many thanks in advance to the community for the help, I'm quite lost since I've owned macs for the last 15 years and this is the first problem I have with one.

I think it's serious, but if it didn't do it booted from Install Disc then Software is highly suspect.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
Did we get the warning in Safe Mode?

  • USB 3.0 ports not working after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have an Asus WIndows 8 laptop that I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 today. My USB 3.0 ports have started acting up. At first they recognized some of my external hard drives but not others. I tested all of the external hard drives and they work fine on my

  • Mac Pro (2006) USB 2.0 ports not working

My USB 2.0 ports are only functioning and displaying as USB 1.1. Under device manager it does not state "Enhanced", which I understand to mean that a USB 2.0 port has been detected.
I haven't seen any information here or elsewhere about this so is it just me that is experiencing this, or is there a fix that I somehow missed?
    Cheers,

    Hello, @CeeeJaaay
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that the USB 2.0 ports aren't working correctly, that they just stopped. I will try to assist you with this.
Start with a system restore, if anything happened to the notebook recently that may be the cause this should correct it.
If it doesn't, make sure all Windows updates have completed. Then use the HP Support assistant to update the drivers.
If they still aren't working, I'd recommend contacting phone support for repair/replacement options.

  • USB 3.0 ports not working in Pavilion G6 2144tx

I purchased my G6 in April of last year and connected up my external hard drive (which does have USB 3.0 support) to it. For the first couple of months, it worked perfectly. Though around September of last year it encountered a problem wherein the laptop itself wouldn't start. Upon handing it over to the HP service centre in my country, they said it was a motherboard issue.
After getting it back, my hard drive no longer responds when connected to any one of the two USB 3.0 ports available, but works fine when connected to the USB 2.0 port and even when connected to the USB 2.0 hub that I have attached to that port.
I have tried updating my USB drivers and after clicking "scan for hardware changes" it finds a device that needs a new driver. Upon trying to install the new driver, however, it encounters an error. It records the device as "Unknown Device" and places it under "Other Devices".
Here is a screenshot of what I described above:
I don't know what else I can do to resolve this. If it is a driver issue, I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the correct driver that I can use to fix this issue. I am currently experiencing very slow copy speeds between my computer and external drive (around 500KB/s to 2MB/s) and would very much like to go back to using my USB 3.0 port.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
    Regards
    Umar

Thank you for your response. I am tempted to believe a driver conflict is at fault, especially since Device Manager shows an unknown device. I believe you should commence troubleshooting by installing the correct drivers, based on the computer's current specifications. For more information on how to do this, please reference this HP document: Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers
If you are unable to resolve the issue, I would personally contact HP Phone Support. Since this defect occurred after the computer returned from servicing, they are responsible for it, and they will address the issue. However, this is assuming you are in warranty. If you do not have this information, you can locate it at this website: HP Warranty Check
You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'm only here to help!

  • My USB port wont work and computer is almost brand new

I have plugged in my iPhone 4 and synced it with my Macbook Pro when I first got it, now when I just tried to plug in a iPhone 5 it says there is a USB device already plugged in taking too much power and once it is unplugged my other USB devices will start working again. Problem is there is nothing plugged into my computer. I have tried command+option+esc  but it shows nothing. I restarted my computer and then shut it down and started it back up again and it still tells me the same thing.

  • My USB 3.0 ports stop working, why?

    Hello!
I have a Line 6 UX2 audio interface since 5-6 years back, not sure.
It has been working perfectly with several Macbooks, an iMac and a Windows PC.
I bought the new Macbook Pro Retina (2.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM) and it worked for a while.
The symptom is that the USB ports suddenly stop working, the audio interface goes down with the rest of the devices (I have a USB 3.0 drive, a USB 2.0 drive and USB dongles for Cubase and Reason). This only happens (to my knowledge at least) when the audio interface is connected. And more often when audio starts playing (an application starts using the device) than random.
Now, this could be a hardware fault you say, but no. I've had other problems with this computer and have had the motherboard (which for Retina Macbook includes RAM, CPU, etc) replaces TWICE. And the same problem with all of the motherboards.
Now, I have checked Console when this error happens, and a kernel driver is outputting a message:
    1/1/12 7:11:46.000 AM kernel[0]: USBF:
    1046.276
    AppleUSBXHCI[0xffffff81c472c000]::UIMRootHubStatusChange - HSE bit set:5 (1)
After this the USB ports are dead until I reboot. All applications using mounted USB drives get the beach ball, including Finder.
Either there is a problem with the Line 6 driver, or with Apples USB controller drivers. But while searching on the net I've found that other people have similar symptoms with other audio interfaces from other makers.
Me and several other have posted on Line 6:s forums about this issue:
    http://line6.com/support/message/396153
So basically, I am hoping that this issue gets forwarded to Apples hardware driver engineers, I'm guessing they are the only ones who knows whats going on and can fix it. But any input at all is very welcome of course!

Since your computer is at least relatively new, I would call AppleCare (if you're within your 9-day phone support or if you actually purchased the AppleCare extended warranty) and work with them. No Apple engineers here - just us users...
