Use a font that is available in Windows fonts

Hi all,
I am creating a PDF document using the iText library and since I am writing plain text I want to use "Courier New" font. I use
FontFactory.getFont(FontFactory.COURIER, 10);When calling getFont("Courier New") it is not available. I work on WinNT4 and I have Courier New in the Fonts. FontFactory.getRegisteredFonts() does not contain "Courier New".
My question is how can I load that font so I can use it in my app?

It seems to be my misunderstanding of the problem.
in iText they have a Font class in the com.lowagie.text package and I have not noticed that it is not the java.awt.Font. When I use the GraphicsEnvironment to get the available fonts I have the Courier New.
But it seems that the problem is not in the font.
The real problem is that the file contains Cyrillic characters that are not displayed correctly when I open the PDF file after creating it/I read the text file that contains the text and put the body in a Paragraph/ so I wanted to use Courier New possibly with Cp1251 encoding to try if it will show characters properly.
What must I set in order to generate the PDF to show Cyrillic?

I'm currently developping an image processing algorithm using Labview 7.1 and the associated IMAQ Vision tools. After several tests, I found a weird result. Indeed, I put the labview algorithm - including the IMAQ VI on the library to get sure that I use all the time the same VI - on my memory stick and used it on two different computers. I tested the same picture (still in my memory stick) and had two very different results.
After several hours trying to understand why, I found that there were a difference between the results given by both computers at the very begining of the algorithm. Indeed, I used a JPEG file.
To open it, I first create an Image with IMAQ Create (U8). Then, I open it.
Then in my first sub-VI, I use IMAQ Cast Image to be sure that the picture is a U8 grayscale picture.
Right after that, I use the IMAQ Linear Averages. The results of this VI are different on the two computers.
I tried several time on the same picture : one computer always give me the same result but the two computers give me a different result. So there is no random variable on the results.
So my question is : Do IMAQ Cast Image or IMAQ Linear averages give different results when using different computers that are running under Windows XP ?
My bet is on IMAQ Cast Image but I'm not quite sure and I do not undestand why. The labview and IMAQ are the same on both computers.
The difference between the two computer are above :
Computer 1 :
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz with a RAM of 1Go. The processor is an Intel(R).
The OS is windows XP Pro 2002
Computer 2 :
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz with a RAM of 512Mo. The processor is an Intel(R).
The OS is windows XP Pro 2002.
If anybody can help me on this problem, it would be really helpful.

I would like to have a password required before using Firefox as there is available with Windows Internet Explorer and Chrome.

As it is known for every one the danger of the internet for kids with out parents watching them so I need a password.

How do you require a password for IE and Chrome? (I think there is an add-on available to add this feature to Chrome.)

I'm not aware of any startup password add-ons for Firefox, but there are filters available, such as [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxfilter/ FoxFilter] (I haven't tried it myself).

You need to tell us A) what app did you create those files with? and B) what format are they in (.doc, .txt, etc)?
It may be possible to just transfer the files and your font to another machine without conversion depending on how they were made.

Try to find out: When you install the Creative Cloud Desktop app, Click Assets, then click Fonts. Click Add Fonts from Typekit. If you can do that, you're in. Of course, you won't be able to use them more than 30 days unless you subscribe. (But fonts embedded in a PDF or EPUB file would be fine.)
Those of us who are CC subscribers cannot test this out easily.

It is asking to verify your info. Select None for the credit card.

In Firefox where do I find the setting: "Use LCD font smoothing when available"?

I know there's a setting for this somewhere, but it's not in the options dialog under any of the tabs. Also, it would be nice to be able to control this via CSS or JavaScript. The issue comes up as FF seems to add a stroke to icon fonts when viewed in OS X machines.

That in not a setting in Firefox, but in the Windows display (appearance) settings.
If ClearType is enabled in Windows (and this is the default in Windows 7) then Firefox uses it automatically.

If you're on windows try the following:
This worked for me an hour ago and has allowed me to sync ok. Still haven't tried downloading the new version 5 to the phone yet as I'm still backing up photos etc just in case.
1. Quit itunes
2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator)
3. Once in the command prompt type the following 3 words starting where your cursor is flashing: netsh winsock reset
4. press ENTER
5. Reboot your machine
6. Restart itunes & connect device to sync
7. Good luck

Extra spaces added (that I can't get rid of) when using STHeiti font. Anything I can do?

When I use the font that I want to use (STHeiti), extra spaces get added automatically—spaces that, by the way, I can’t ‘delete’—after every apostrophe (or single quotation mark). See screen grabs below:

Do you know how I can make these spaces go away? When I do a search on the internet (InDesign STHeiti), I see that others have had other types of problems with this font… having to do with exporting a finished project to pdf and getting it printed.
In the context of talking about it, one person says that the STHeiti font "is installed as part of the Apple operating system, and is probably only meant for onscreen display".
But someone else adds: "the font is installed, by default, on all macs running 10.4 and above (possibly further back than that, but lets go with what we know), so opening the file at the printers on such a mac will have the font available”
I'm on my Mac, though (not yet ready for the printer), so why do I have a problem using this font?
I know I could use another font, but this STHeiti is a really nice one!

Wow... that works beautifully.
I've done it, but before proceeding too much further I'll google and try to find out more about this "Use Typographer's Quotes" setting. Don't want it to bite me down the road.

I think that was Tecno. Techno appears to be a whole class of fonts.

That's a .ttf version which should work OK with current OS.
As an aside, I was searching for Apple Textile for quite some time when it was pointed out to me that it was used by iDVD. Sure enough, opened up the installer package for iDVD with Pacifist and there it was. Now working fine on all my Macs!

I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this. Are you the administrative contact on your Creative Cloud team subscription? The admin user doesn't receive the same set of services as a full seat, so you will have a Typekit Trial plan instead of the Portfolio plan.
You have the option of upgrading to the Portfolio level, though. If you would like to do that:
1) sign in at https://typekit.com/login with your Adobe ID and password
2) visit typekit.com/plans, and select the "upgrade" option underneath Portfolio
Your Typekit plan upgrade will be billed separately from your Creative Cloud payments. The Portfolio plan is $49.99/year.

I just found a way to get Fixit to Run. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ and then pick "Install or upgrade software or hardware" and run Fixit from the "Run" button on the webpage. I just picked run, instead of save, and ran it directly from the web page for each of the apple software. If the window doesn't come up full size, hit "Tab" twice and then "Return". You'll be able to see the prompts from there. Have it attempt to uninstall iTunes on its own. Repeat the process for any of the other Apple products, including Bonjour and iCloud. Then, go to the iTunes website and install from there. I had a downloaded copy and installed from there, but it came up with an error about missing the apple help, or something like that. It allowed me to uninstall, and I reinstalled direclty from the website, and it all works now.
