User preferences gone and access to system preferences locked

I did a software upgrade to my iMac and it wiped out all my user preferences, and will not allow me access to my system preferences to change it back.  Any suggestions to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Abby

You can re-install Mavericks to get back the Apple applications. It will install over your current files, but it is always advised that you backup first.
If you have an external drive you can clone your current drive using SuperDuper or CCC. Both are free for a full clone.

  • PBC 10 user users/teams/roles and access data profiles

    Hello experts,
couples of questions with regards to BPC 10 security
    1) In PBC 10, version SAP NetWeaver , if a team or a user was created in BPC not in BW, can the created user/team has access to SAP BW? Can the created team/user be imported and assigned assigned rights in BW?  Or , if I need a user who will have acces to both SAP BW and BPC , do I HAVE to create the user in SAP NetWeaver (BW) and assign rights?? or
    2)
If the defined attributes are Currency=Euro: Read and Country=France: Write, then Entity102 is writable.
Assuming that a write access to Currency = Euro : Write produce the same output as in the above, How can ensure that I can give a write access on a dimension without having allowing the write access to the whole entity as in the above case?
    Thanks
    Jh

    Hi John,
For your 1st question, to add a BPC user, you need to create BW user first on BW. Then add this BW user as BPC user. When you create a BW user, you need to assign two roles
    /POA/BUI_FLEX_CLIENT, /POA/BUI_UM_USER.
Actually, once you created the BW user, you can use this BW user to log on to BW now, but this user has few rights, such as no rights to execute some t-code RSA1, etc. To make this BW user more powerful, you need to assign the corresponding rights directly on BW, not from BPC. The rights(Data Access profile or task profiles) added from BPC only works on BPC object, such as members, cube, etc.

  • Time difference between the Identity system and Access System: OAM

I was installing OAM. Performed the below steps.
    -installed identity server
    -installed webpass
    -setup of identity system console
    -installed policy manager
    -setup of access system console
The above steps were successfull. Then when i was logging into Access system console, i am getting the below error:
Error:there was a problem obtaining the userid. One possible reason for this is a time difference between the Identity system and Access systems (Policy Manager and Access system console).+
The Identity Server, WebPass and Policy Manager are installed on the same machine.
    Userdata repository: OVD 10.1.4.3
Policy and Config Data Repository: OID 11.1.1.3
    OAM: 10.1.4.3

Found document in metalink similar to this issue. suggested to change ldapmaxofreties. but didn't help.
Any idea on this error. Please Advise.
    Thanks in advance.

    Try this::
Check Time Difference Between Identity and Access Manager Systems
Check the logfile in the Access Manager install directory. The default location is <$AMinstall_dir>/access/oblix/logs/oblogfile.
If the file exists and it contains following line "skew = slack = " that means the Identity and Access Manager Web Servers are on different machines and have not synchronized time within a minute.
Either synchronize times between the two machines within a minute's accuracy or you can increase the slack by modifying these two files: <$AMinstall_dir>/access/oblix/apps/common/bin/oblixbaseparams.lst: loginslack: <$IMinstall_dir>/identity/oblix/apps/common/bin/oblixbaseparams.xml: loginslack: where numofseconds is more than skew found in the oblogfile.
For example, if you have following line in oblogfile "skew = 121 slack = 60", set numofseconds in the two parameter files to 130. After doing this, Stop the Identity Manager Web Server. Then stop the Identity Server. Start the Identity Server.
Then start the Identity Manager Web Server. Start a new browser session and see if you get the same error.

  • UWL - conditional accessing of systems

    Hello All,
I have configured the UWL system to retrieve data from 2 MDM repositories. Every portal user is not going to have access to both the MDM repositories. How can I stop UWL from retrieving data from both the repositories?
Currently the UWL is retrieving the data from the MDM system for which there is a User Mapping. But for the other UWL is displaying an error message. I need a way to restrict this behaviour (because the error message makes the end user confused).
    Thanks in advance,
    PKS.

    Hi,
when you create a UWL system you have got the possibility to restrict access to this system. Have a look at the parameter "User Roles". There you can determine for which set of users the UWL should access this system.
For example, you can assign a portal role here, such as buyer. Only users with the role buyer will see items from the provider system in UWL. You can have multiple user roles separated by semi-colon.

  • After system date/time reset macbook pro can't open any programs and access system preferences

    Hi,
Booted my macbook pro 2009 and the time was reset to 2001, a prompt asked me to change settings or else the computer might function erratically. So i changed the date and time settings as suggested but then suddenly it stopped working. I restarted the computer but i could no longer open any programs. My dock was gone, the screen background was changed back to the original and i couldn't access the system preferences. Every time i click on the apple icon the screen just refereshes and that's it.
My laptop hasn't been turned off for the last 48 hrs before this happened.  i was working and uploading huge files to dropbox and since my internet connection was really slow, i had to keep it on so it would upload continously. Was thinking this might have caused some malfunction.
Has anyone experienced this kind of issue?

You need to charge the computer, perhaps the battery went dead.
Do a SMC and PRAM reset, see if that assists.
Also hold the shift key after that upon boot, that will fix things
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3046
If you get into your account, see if system preferences opens and try to set the time and date, align with Apple's servers, reset the screen saver and desktop picture see if it holds upon a reboot
If not your going to have to delete your
    com.systempreferences.plist
    file in your
    "User"/Library/Preference folder
Reboot the machine and then open System Preferences and reset your preferences.
Now in 10.6, the "User"/Library/Preference folder is not hidden
In 10.7 the "Users"/Library/Preferences folder IS hidden
so in 10.7 you need to use the Finder > Go To Folder and type
    /Library/Preferences
    and click OK
Then scoll down to the  file above, there will be two of them perhaps, one is a lock file the other one you can Trash, so do that and reboot.

Reinstall Leopard using Archive and Install:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • My system preferences have suddenly disappeared! I have the language and text icon but that is the only icon that is displayed! where have my system preferences gone and how do i get them back??

I went to my system preferences today and they are all gone except for my language and text icon! I have the language and text icon but that is the only icon that is displayed! where have my system preferences gone and how do i get them back??

Double click on the picture of the HD on your desktop, then look at the bottom of the window that opens.
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > in the panel at left, select the first item in the list/your HD mechanism > look atthe bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T.status is "Verified," run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

In System Prefereneces, when I am in Desktop and Screen Saver, I am unable to remove folders. I have tried deleting preferences "plist" but I am totally unable to remove the folders.

I've seen one other report like yours, and I think the issue is caused by a bug, but I don't know what triggers it.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Help, MBP Hard Drive is Read-Only, Can't access or unlock any user preferences

I could really use some help. I have searched and tried what I could but I am at a loss with what to do. I first noticed this last night when I was trying to switch users and after entering the correct password nothing would happen. I then went to Preferences to reset my password and the lock icon was closed so I clicked to unlock it and it prompted me for my password and after entering the correct one nothing happens. It simply reverts back to the same window without unlocking.
I am unable to switch users, unlock any locked preferences, install any software, etc as anything that requires my admin password won't work. I am entering the correct password because if the wrong one is entered it "shakes" and the correct one looks as if it will be accepted but it doesn't.
I have tried running repair in Disk Utility and rebooting multiple times to no avail. I finally decided to try and reinstall Lion however once I get to the page asking for admin allowance it again won't go past the password screen so I can't even do that.
After reading tons of threads I came across one that pointed to my Macintosh HD. I chose get info and it turns out that I am now Read Only. The only one with write access is System. Therefore I can't do anything.
I am completely at a loss and really need some help. Some threads I've come across mention running scripts in Terminal but I have no idea what is actually relevant for me and would really prefer some specific help. I was on 10.7.1 so I upgraded to 10.7.2 but the issue is still very much present.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Reboot and hold down the option key at the startup chime. Select Recovery HD. Launch Disk Utility. Try repairing permissions. You can also reinstall from there if you wish.
What have you been using to make backups? Time Machine or some other program?

  • User Preference Panes dimmed, unable to access...

I am "in charge" of our network which consists of 10 PowerMac G5s, an XServe and XRAID. We are currently running 10.4.6 throughout.
We are adding some WACOM tablets to a couple stations, but I have been unable to access the WACOM preference pane in the system preferences. The WACOM software creates a new row below the "System" row, and adds it's preference pane. When logged in as a user this pane is visible, but dimmed out. When I log in as root the preference becomes available, and I am able to tune the tablet.
I have used the latest driver, and have installed / uninstalled a few times. I have installed as root, and as a user with identical results as above.
The Workgroup Manager has NOT been configured to manage user preferences; there are three options that I see, "Never", "Once", and "Always"- "Never" is selected.
I am looking for a way to make the WACOM pane available to the user. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Tried Repairing Permissions on the machine after installation?
I would have thought that installing as Root would be a bad idea (might cause permissions problems). An 'admin' user should be sufficient. Do 'plain' users have any restrictions set on them in their Accounts preferences?
It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with the server though, (if you are not using managed preferences). If you get no joy here (server forum) you might want to try the genera Tiger forum area.

We have a policy that distributes proxy settings in the internet explorer maintenance settings section - however when opening this policy up in GPO editor the internet explorer maintenance section is not present.

  • How do I turn Exposé/Spaces off, without access to System Preferences because I disabled it's space?

I accidentally disabled a column of spaces where I had my System Preferences running, in "Exposé and Spaces".
Now I cannot access my System Preferences at all.
I can see System Preferences as a running application in the doc and command tabbing though running applications. I can also get to it this way and see the menu bar on the top of my screen and click through the menus and drop down menus, however I cannot see any windows.
I know that I can open different windows for if the System by selecting something in the drop down menus. Then I see the selected window if I click and hold down on the dock icon of the system preferences. However, as soon as I try to click on the window it disappears.
I know that my problem would be solved if I could turn off Spaces but how do I do this if   I cannot access it though System Preferences?

After a long struggle and research I found a solution.
I discovered Spaces exists in the Utilities folder in Applications.
When I opened the application from here it gave me the 3 spaces I had assigned, vertically displayed, with the system preference window sitting, outside and fairly large, hovering, partially infront of it all the other screens.  After several tries of grabbing and disappearing it finally let me drag and drop the window into one of the screen.
    I am really relieved now!!

  • Store user preferences accessible from view layer and ADF BC

    Hi
    I'm working with JDeveloper 11.1.2.1
We have an application with an application-level shared application module which contains VOs with bind variables to generate language dependent LOVs. From these VOs have to access the language.
We want to store user language and other user preferences in the future and these can be accessed by the view layer and ADF BC.
In addition, we want that application will be passivation safe and works properly in a cluster environment.
At first we opted to save the language in the HTTP session, but we access it from ADF BC ... and we would not want to break the MVC pattern. This article
Andrejus Baranovskis's Blog: Bad Practice for Session Scope Access in ADF BC
says that the MVC pattern only breaks when our application module can not be executed without the UI. We differentiate when run individually and when run as a logged in user to avoid this rupture. ¿Is this acceptable solution?
Otherwise, what is the best option to preserve the MVC pattern and also the passivation does not affect the proper execution of the application and not cause problems in the cluster (HTTP sessions are replicated, but the rest?)
I have seen that there are 2 more possible methods :
    - Transient View Object
    - User data map
The user data map discussed in this article seems an option,
Andrejus Baranovskis's Blog: Solution for Sharing Global User Data in ADF BC
but perhaps complicates the development and I don't know if shared application module would work properly. For example, we need the language of the user in the application-level shared application module VOs, but the user data map is available only in the session of the root application module no? If we have a method that gets the language within the shared application module, ¿when the method getSession.getUserData() execute, it will access the user data in the root application module or return null?
If you could tell us if we are correct using the HTTP session or else it is better that we use the user data map, it would be a great help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
this sounds like something that belongs in your Application Module. I would create a client method which would do your LDAP checks before calling your view object to create a new row. Have the client method return the result based on the success of your LDAP search.
Call this AM client method from the backing bean of the JSP and return a page flow based on the outcome of your client method.
The actual transaction with the database happens in your doDML method of the Entity Object (override the doDML method). But I would still implement this business logic in the AM.
    regards,
    Brenden

  • How do the experts like to work? User preferences in workflow and design...

I have 3 main overall questions that I could really use expert advice on (all based on the info below):
    1. Which path should I take?
    2. What display configuration is best?
    3. Do I really need a 3rd party video accelerator of some sort?
I currently have a MacBook Pro 17” (first gen) with 2GB RAM and FCS2.
Footage I need to edit is HDVCPROHD 1080pA (offline files, about 2TB worth. Later it will be conformed to uncompressed 1080p at 4:4:4, which will be about 2TB after final cut I’m guessing.) It’s a feature film with an estimated running time of 90-100 minutes.
Looking for suggestions on going about this in the best way.
    *Option 1:*
    1) get some eSATA storage, connect through a PC Express card (or is FW800 enough?) and edit from that
--a) Or is FW800 fast enough?
--b) If this is a good plan, any suggestions on storage?
    2) get a nice secondary display to connect through the DVI so I can view the 1080p footage as large and nice as possible. (Then I’d use my MacBook Pro display as primary.)
    --a) Looking at Apple 23” & 30” displays, Dell 24” & 30” displays, or a Samsung HDTV – any suggestions?
----i) I’m being told conflicting reports that I can view the 1080p footage just fine without anything, or that I do in fact need a Matrox MXO2 or something similar. What’s the truth?
In general how would Option 1 fare in your opinion?
    *Option 2:*
    1) get a bare-bones MacPro, and upgrade it with 3rd party RAM (8GB) and 4x4TB internal SATA drives, and RAID 3 of them, using one as the boot drive. nVidia 8800, too.
    2) Get two new displays; one for preview.
--a) Looking at Apple, Dell, various sizes, etc. 2x24” Dells, or a 30” and a Samsung 1080p HDTV?
----i) Does anyone have a screen shot of FCP running on a 30” compared to a 23”? It’s twice as much but it seems that much better!
----ii) Do I really need an AJA or Blackmagic card to view the 1080p signal? Shouldn’t it just work? If there is a performance increase, how much better is it?
My immediate goal is to edit the offline files to a final cut in the quickest most efficient way possible.
My secondary goal, if I went with Option 2, would be to have a way of scaling my system up if I needed to work on the online uncompressed 4:4:4 files. Then I’d need to purchase the Kona3 for sure and then purchase the CalDigit HDPro…the best from what I’ve researched.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Shane Ross wrote:
DVCPRO HD...no such thing as HDVCPRO. HDV...DVCPRO...different formats.
Can I blame the typo on the assistant editor? Probably not… He digitized at the lab and emailed me that, but I should have known better… (See previous apology.)
Later it will be conformed to uncompressed 1080p at 4:4:4
You need a MacPro with about 6GB to 8GB of RAM.
You will need a Kona 3 card, or Decklink Multibridge Pro or Eclipse.
You will need far better storage than three internal striped drives. Uncompressed HD 4:4;4 takes muscle. HD Pro (www.caldigit.com) Sonnet 800P (www.sonnettech.com) ProDQ (www.dulcesystems.com) EVO HD (www.maxxdigital.com). Something capable of 400MB/s sustained read/write.
Forget the laptop option. As soon as you mention Uncompressed 4:4:4...it is off the table.
Since I’m editing the offline right now, I should be fine with the internal striped RAID for now? (Would Option 1 be back on the table if I was only working with the offline? Not that I wouldn’t love a new MacPro and huge screens, etc., I just want to know where my ‘needs’ end and my ‘wants’ start.)
--a) Looking at Apple, Dell, various sizes, etc. 2x24” Dells, or a 30” and a Samsung 1080p HDTV?
Two monitors...Dell 2408 are great. Better picture and CHEAPER than the Apple dislays.
Okay, this is a big deal to me. Your preference for Dell over Apple sways me a lot back toward Dell, even though I have read that color on the Apple is better, and the response times on the new Dells are not the greatest in the latest benchmarks. Regardless, I bet I wouldn’t notice a difference once they were all calibrated, etc. (Besides the gorgeous aesthetic of the Apples!)
Ignoring the brand though: So do you prefer working with two 24” monitors, using both for your workspace and an additional preview monitor? Or do you use one for your workspace and the other for preview? If both are used for workspace, does the split down the center (between each screen) bother you? And would that be solved by a single 30” for workspace?
ii) Do I really need an AJA or Blackmagic card to view the 1080p signal?
    Yes, you do.
    Shouldn’t it just work?
Just work how? Via firewire? Nope. DV...yes (camera/deck required). DVCPRO HD...yes (if you have a deck to route thru). HDV...no. Uncompressed HD...HECK no...not without a capture card. UC 4:4:4? Kona 3...Decklink Multibridge or Eclipse.
So let’s say I have either a new 24” Dell or a Samsung 1080p HDTV I’m using for my preview monitor. I can’t connect with my secondary DVI on the nVidia 8800 and expect to see a 1920x1080p signal? (Playing my offline files, not the UC 4:4:4.) I was hoping to delay the purchase of a Kona3 card until I really knew I needed to work with my online.
So here’s my dilemma: if I really do need to purchase ‘something’ to view the offline now, it would potentially be a waste if I later needed to purchase a Kona3, unless I bit the bullet and just purchased the Kona3, which is overkill for my offline for now. Arrgh.
Anyway, I can see the footage on my MacBook Pro in a tiny window now, and I’m going to experiment with playing it on my old 21” CRT with a DVI-VGA adapter as a second monitor, just for fun. Any predictions?
I’m being told conflicting reports that I can view the 1080p footage just fine without anything, or that I do in fact need a Matrox MXO2 or something similar. What’s the truth?
MXO 2 can allow you to view HDV, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, uncompressed 4:2:2 HD. 4:4:4 is KONA/Decklink territory.
So the MXO is just going to get me through the offline, but at $1500 it’s more than half way to the price of a Kona3. If I was going to do that to myself, wouldn’t a Blackmagic Intensity card do the same? Then I’d only be out $250. But still, if the Kona3 hedges all my bets right off the bat, then I get some performance benefits as well during my offline, it starts to weigh my decision. What would you do if you were me?
If there is a performance increase, how much better is it?
No performance increase. They allow for more RT effects with HDV and DVCPRO HD, but they do not speed up renders or add more RT to uncompressed HD.
This is where I need to learn what effects it speeds up. Basic things like transitions, etc.? Anything I’d notice that I’d otherwise get impatient waiting to render?
    Or is FW800 fast enough?
    not by a long shot.
Is it fast enough to handle the offline?
My immediate goal is to edit the offline files to a final cut in the quickest most efficient way possible.
Capture DVCPRO HD native...via firewire. Edit on your internal drives...no striping needed...they are plenty fast.
Since it was already captured for me, and I’m sort of locked in right now to what I have, it’s about 2TB. If I max out to 4x1TB drives in a new MacPro, is it wise to stripe 3 of them and work from that? Is it still better to keep them all as individuals?
I’d need to purchase the Kona3 for sure and then purchase the CalDigit HDPro…the best from what I’ve researched.
    YOu researched well...
Thanks! Nice review of the HDPro!!!

  • Hi, does anyone know how to restore the System Preferences back in Mavericks. I had a system failure, did a restore, and now no system prefs. It all works apart from that. Thank you

Hi, hope someone can help, I am not Mac savvy. I had a system failure for some reason, and did a complete restore from a backup drive, and now no System Preferences. I had since also had the backup disk fail, so no other backups to work from. I am currently trying to restore these with a file salvage software.
The system runs fine, but, I cant change anything in the preferences. The PrefPane list is still there in the same file PreferencePanes. Thank You
    System below
OSX Mavericks, Intel 24inch 2009, 8Gig Ram, 1 TB HD

But, If I boot it from the DVD using the R Button will that work?
    No.
Will I Ihave to start from Snow Leopard?
    Hopefully not.
Here's the thing: your Mac is older and I do not know if it has the updated firmware so you actually have a recovery partition (part of every OS since Snow Leopard - takes the place of install DVDs).
So, you can test that: choose restart from the File menu and when you hear the bong, immediately hit Command + R. If you get a grey screen with one window on it like this:
If you see this, choose to reinstall OS X and it should install the current system.
If your regular desktop appears, then you don't have a recovery and will need to start from the Snow leopard DVD (insert CD, choose restart and hold down C key) and then reinstall from there. You won't need Lion - just update Snow Leopard and then re-download Mavericks.
