Userdefined metrics in grid control with OEM

Hi,
i created a user defined metric to check the size of perticular tablespace, as for that
i wrote a query like select bytes/1024/1024 from dba_data_files where tablespace_name like 'tablespacename'
my query is giving output :100mb
i gave the threshold values like operator= '=', warning = '100', critical = 110. to tset my alert will fire or not
iam not specified any response action for this,
when iam testing it willcollect the value is 100mb, successful.
but my alert is not firing.
can anybody help me out regarding this issue

You should be aware of the following:
When you have tested your UDM and the output is what you expect, you will press [OK] and then the UDM is saved and activated.
The alert should then be shown as soon as your UDM thresholds values are reached.
The same page that gives you an overview of available UDM's will also show you an overview of each evaluation that has been done.
So, you should see for each run of the UDM, what thershold values were measured and if or not the treshold value was hit.
If you don't see this, then there is something wrong with you UDM definition.
If you make screenshots of the UDM defintoin and the output on the overview page and send them to me [email protected] then I might be able to indicate was is causing this problem.
Not a 100% fit, but you might want to take a look at ad document I created for the creation of User Defined Metric and a Notifcation Rule to be used: http://oemgc.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/creating-user-defined-metrics.pdf

  • Suggested concept for Grid Control with DataGuard solution

    Hello,
I want a Disaster Recovery solution for OEM Grid Control with DataGuard but with only one OMS running. (11.1)
I have figured out the following.
Installation OEM Grid control om host A. Repository is created on Host A. Connection to database is done thru servicename DBGRDSRV on Host A
Installation OEM Grid control om host B. Repository is created on Host B. Connection to database is done thru servicename DBGRDSRV on Host B
I stop OMS on host B and I drop the database on Host B
    Then....
I create a Dataguard configuration for DBGRDSRV, the prim database run on Host A en secondary on Host B
In case of a failure i switch the database. On host B i will have DBGRDSRV as the primary database
I start OMS on host B and the agent.
In case the failure is resolved i switch back eveything
    Will thos concept work?
Do i get some troubles with the emkey, and if so, does anybody has a solution for this?
    Any help is appreciated

  • CDB metrics for GRID CONTROL

    Hello all,
We are working with CDB 10.2.0.0.0 and the GRID CONTROL AGENT 10.2 is installed so we would like to know some best practices, experiences, implemented tests,... that you can share after working with these products. Our aim is to have a large set of metrics so we can choose the most interesting ones.
In other words, we would like to get more metrics than the default defined ones. So we need people that have worked with the products to share their experiences.
Could you share some info with us (like custom SQL metrics)?
Particularly, we are interested in metrics like:
    · Total size grouped by folder (all subfolders included)
    o Consumed
    o Allocated
    · Total size grouped by library
    o Allocated
    · Web Services response time
    o Of downloading a document
o Of getting the document info
    o Of uploading documents
    o Of searching a document
    · DB response time
    o Of downloading a document
o Of getting the document info
    o Of uploading documents
    o Of searching a document
    · Get the status of an agent
    · etcetera...
I used the sqlarea to get some metrics from WS calls. Do you have any advice for getting custom sql metrics?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Best regards.

Some numbers can be found in the documentation :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b40103/pre-installation_requirements.htm
Though I use more than 2 GB for the OMS installation (AIX).
You may also want to read Metalink note 375509.1 on agent resource consumption :

  • Is it possible to create user defined metrics in Grid Control 10.2.0.1 ?

    Hi,
Is it possible to create user defined metrics(my SQL statement) in Grid Control 10.2.0.1
    (not 10.2.0.3) Linux/AIX ?

I am not sure if I am correct, but for reasons best known to them, Oracle replaced rather than add.
Even if you want to do a smart search using the part# (e.g B16242-03) in oracle.com, you get a whole list of results, but when you click on them, you get http://www.oracle.com/errors/404.html
    I found this copy http://www.oracle.polcreate.pl/em.102/b16242/toc.htm

As curious as I always am, I was able to discover my XE database from the GC 10.1.0.4 last month. I did this because I asked myself the same question. When there is time, I normally will try everything that says "Not supported" or "Not compartible" to prove it right or wrong. So give it a go, but don't post errors from it here :-). I have not tried it for GC 10.2.0.2, but it worked on 10.1.0.4 (hopefully 10.1.0.3).
Remember, XE has all the features of EE, but a cutdown version. It has an Oracle Service and a Listener on a port, so the agent will pick them up. I have tried all possible things and tools (Forms, Reports, Designer Repository, Jdeveloper, SQL Developer, ODBC, JDBC etc) on XE to break it, but it works like EE. The only difference is when you hit the max allowed 4GB (excluding 1GB system) and I proved the limit right by kicking of a data load into a table using a cursor until it hit the maximum 4GB limit error.

I have 10gR2 Grid Control installed on a Linux Server. I want to use it to create a DataGuard standby database. The issue is that the primary database is 10gR2 on a HP-UX server using ASM and the standby database will also be 10gR2 on a HP-UX server using ASM. Will the 10gR2 Linux Grid Control be able to handle this since the agent on the primary will be 10.1.0.4? Note: 10gR2 is available for HP-UX but 10gR2 Grid Control is not yet available so that is why I have 10.1.0.4 agent.

  • OEM Grid Control with vmware

We've just purchased OEM. We plan 2 installs - one on a development server to monitor development dbs, the other a production server to monitor production dbs. Our technical group wants me to install it on one Windows 2003 Server using vmware giving me 2 virtual servers. This way they only have to purchase 1 physical server yet I get the 2 installs I want. Oracle support said they wouldn't support this type of install.
    Has anyone done this?

Yes, I have exactly the same setting. Works like a charm, but it does need some hefty resources. As this is only a test setting on my laptop I do not expect much support.
Maybe you should not mention that you run this on vmware when you have a support question ;-)

  • Error while installing OEM Grid Control

I am getting error while installing OEM Grid control (with existing database) at OMS Configuration. So, I cancelled the installation and deleted all databases and started the instal again. I am still getting an error at OMS configuration.
I am trying to read through the threads here to see if anyone has solved it. I see a lot of threads on this topic but not sure how you guys resolved it.
    Can anyone help here.

  • How to figure out server has capacity to install OEM 10 Grid control

How to figure out server has capacity to install OEM 10 Grid control
    Hi Experts
I have HP_UX 11.11 server which has 1 instance on it with version 10.2.0.1.0.
Now I would like to install Grid control with a separate instance for repository.
I was told I would need 2 GB Ram for OMS and 2 GB Ram for instance.
Now how do I figure out if my server has enough resources from Ram perspective
Following is output from top and vmstat
    1. for top it says 3045556K free , now is this free memory virtual(real +swap) or real?
    2. as per top I only have free 3GB(3045556K) , so does that mean I can not have OMS & repository on
    this server ?
    3. In vmstat I see free memory as 762335
in man it says free - Size of the free list
what does this mean, how much is my free meemory ?
    4. For OMS I read - It is a J2EE application that is installed and deployed using Oracle
    Application Server
Now when I look at top I see these processes
    0 ? 26521 oasadm 152 20 1517M 1141M run 3:49 2.53 2.52 java
    0 ? 3377 oasadm 152 20 1657M 1276M run 54:49 1.88 1.88 java
Does oasadm user means Oracle application server ? If yes does it mean I will not
    need 2GB for OMS ?

how much is my free meemory ?Do you have kmeminfo command installed?

s oasadm user means Oracle application server ? If
yes does it mean I will not need 2GB for OMS ?Even if that java vm is an instance of Oracle AS (OC4J), the Grid Control installs a separate instance of AS. The choice to install OMS app to any existing AS home does not exist in any version I know.
Find out what more is running on the box and how much resources (i.e. RAM) those apps are configured with.

Oracle Enterprise Manager comes in 3 editions - Database Control, Fusion Middleware Control (also known as Application Server Control) and Grid Control.
Database and Fusion Middleware Control are the base consoles shipped with Oracle Database and Fusion Middleware, respectively.
Grid Control is the full fledge EM that is capable of managing everything from Oracle Database, Fusion Middleware, Siebel, PeopleSoft, Oracle E-Business Suite to 3rd party technologies such as BEA Weblogic, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, F5 Load Balancer, etc...
In addition to support for more types of technologies, 10g also includes additional capabilities such as service level management, configuration management, provisioning, etc...
