::: Users problems in Solaris 10 SPARC :::
Hi people,
I have finnished an installation of Solaris 10 and also an application from Cisco which is MGC 9.7(3) and I am not able to login as mgcusr via ssh.
I checked the group file and passd file and everything is fine.
How can I change the mgcusr password? Or how can I proceed to recover the pass?
Regards and thanks.
type passwd mgcusr as root. then you'll need to type new password for that user.

"AT" scheduler problems on Solaris 10 (Sparc 01 release)
I am having a problem with 'at' scheduled jobs not running in Solaris 10.
When scheduling an 'at' job, I see the 'at' job listed with 'at -l', and the job does not run the script. .At the execution time, the job will not run and i still see the job listed in queue afterwards with 'at -l'. I have tested these on solaris 8 and another solaris 10 server and 'at' works fine without any problem at all.
Interestingly enough, 'at' jobs DO run correctly when scheduled in a cronjob, but not from command line. I have tried to make 'at' work with command line using differnet users and shells to no avail.
Here are two simple scripts I've created to show the issue.
# cat start_alert.sh
#!/bin/sh
at now + 1 min <<\EOF
./alert.sh
EOF
#cat alert.sh
#!/bin/sh
echo "AT Started the script" > /tmp/sh_status
Heres what happens:
app1# ./start_alert.sh
commands will be executed using /bin/sh
job 1152889697.a at Fri Jul 14 11:08:17 2006
(tried csh also)
app1# at -l
user = root 1152889697.a Fri Jul 14 11:08:17 2006
app1# date
Fri Jul 14 11:09:13 EDT 2006
app1# ls -al /tmp/sh_status
/tmp/sh_status: No such file or directory
app1# ps -ef | grep alert
root 11839 3520 0 11:19:30 pts/3 0:00 grep alert
Strange, as I said, i've checked permissions, tried different users and shells... Problem remains....
Anyone have any idea why this isn't working in solaris 10 ?Hey
I actually found the problem,
I needed to
edit /usr/lib/cron/queuedefs
change contents to:
a.100j0n
b.20j2n90w
otherwise the jobs just queue and don't run even if I only start one ? Strange but it works! -
Problem with installation application server 10g on Solaris 10 sparc
Hello all.
Help me, please.
I'm trying to install Oracle aplication server 10.0.1.2.0.2 on Solaris 10 sparc.
Server - Sun Fire v210.
When i install oracle infrastructure(metadata repository and identify management),
i have a problem - on first step of configuration "end of communication channel".
Failed
Anybody know, how solve this problem?
Sorry for my english.There is known bug in installing Oracle10gAS infra. You have to apply the following note during the installation.
see MetaLink Note:330016.1 for current AS 10.1.2 installation requirements for Solaris 10.

I'm trying to install the Oracle SOA Suite 11g on Solaris 10 SPARC-64 but I´m having problems.
I have already installed the JDK 1.6_11 for 64 bits and I use it for the SOA installation, the instruction is:

I'm providing the absolute path to ensure take the correct JDK (JDK 64 bits).
But I get the following error:

I think that the error would be caused by the JDK version with which try to initializing.
Anyone have any idea about the possible error? Thanks in advance.Hi, I encourage you to try to use the generic installer at: %SOA_INSTALLER_DIR%/Disk1/runInstaller. Because if you are using the runInstaller at %SOA_INSTALLER_DIR%/Disk1/install/solaris it will lead to that problem in some cases.

CTM 8.0 Solaris 10 Sparc-64 Installation Problems
I am installing CTM 8.0 on a Solaris 10, Sparc 64 Sun Server/Workstation. I am having a problem installing the CTM, I installed Oracle 9i with no problems(that I know of) with patch 9.2.0.8. When I go to start the ctmsetup.sh it checks for the latest version of JRE, which is fine, however it says that I don't have the Solaris patches for JRE and it lists them. Well the patches I have are more up to date then those listed so when I tried to install the patches they listed it said that they were obsoleted by what I have already. Secondly it gives the message "Starting Cisco CTM Server Installation using Install Anywhere" but then the next line says "You pressed Cancel/Upgrade/Install" when I hadn't pressed anything, and it just stays there. Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks!Hi, how you setup oracle 9.2.0.8 patch?? I tried
cd /oraclesw9i/Disk1
./runInstaller -silent -responseFile /oraclesw9i/patchset_64bit_9208.rsp but, with key -silent i have an error: cannot communicate with X server, on my WinXP workstation?

Hi
We're running a Solaris (Sparc) box and installed Apache 2.2.16 and ColdFusion9 on our system. When starting ColdFusion the first time, the shell script "apache_connector.sh" installs the mod_jrun22.so (must be the successor of mod_coldfusion.so) and adds the required section in the httpd.conf file just fine. (well, after fixing the script... ^^)
The problem arises when starting Apache next time:
httpd: Syntax error on line 414 of /usr/local/httpd-2.2.16/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /opt/coldfusion9/runtime/lib/wsconfig/1/mod_jrun22.so into server:
ld.so.1: httpd: fatal: libgcc_s.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
Apparently, this module was compiled with gcc, which we didn't install on our Sun system.
Does anyone know whether there's a module available which doesn't depend on gcc libraries under Solaris?
So far we've compiled everything with Suns compiler Sun Studio 12.0. The reason behind this is that we're using CFX-tags and our shared library uses C/C++ and embedded SQL for Oracle 11g (yes, we're old school ^^). And since Oracle 11g officially only supports Sun Studio 12.0 when using embedded SQL, we're trying to compile everything with this compiler.
Sure we could install gcc (or at least a runtime-component containing libgcc_s.so.1), but I'm wondering now whether we'll run into problems later when using our C++ library which was compiled with Sun Studio 12.0.
Could anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!
DanielWe have our EBS 12.0.6 on Sun Solaris SPARC 64 bit. There are few hp printer (hp laserjet p2015dn) configured with our application and they are working fine.
Now we have to add one more printer but ( hp laserjet p2015dn) is not available now.
So please suggest the hp laserjet printer available for Solaris 10 Sparc 64 bit.You already have the same type of printer configured and it is working properly, so I would say it is supported.
What is the difference between the two printers configuration?
Can you print from the OS to the new printer?
What do you mean by "not available now"?
Thanks,
Hussein -
SAP 7.0 on SUN Cluster 3.2 (Solaris 10 / SPARC)
Dear All;
i'm installing a two nodes cluster (SUN Cluster 3.2 / Solaris 10 / SPARC), for a HA SAP 7.0 / Oracle 10g DataBase
SAP and Oracle softwares were successfully installed and i could successfully cluster the Oracle DB and it is tested and working fine.
for the SAP i did the following configurations
# clresource create -g sap-ci-res-grp -t SUNW.sap_ci_v2 -p SAPSID=PRD -p Ci_instance_id=01 -p Ci_services_string=SCS -p Ci_startup_script=startsap_01 -p Ci_shutdown_script=stopsap_01 -p resource_dependencies=sap-hastp-rs,ora-db-res sap-ci-scs-res
# clresource create -g sap-ci-res-grp -t SUNW.sap_ci_v2 -p SAPSID=PRD -p Ci_instance_id=00 -p Ci_services_string=ASCS -p Ci_startup_script=startsap_00 -p Ci_shutdown_script=stopsap_00 -p resource_dependencies=sap-hastp-rs,or-db-res sap-ci-Ascs-res
and when trying to bring the sap-ci-res-grp online # clresourcegroup online -M sap-ci-res-grp
it executes the startsap scripts successfully as following

Solaris 10 / Sparc: Last Unsuccessful Login
Hi guys,
I would like to know if there is a way to configure my "Solaris 10 / Sparc" system in order that, after a user login on the system, the console displays a message containing the Last Successful Login date and the number of failed login the same user attempts since last login successfully carried out . I hope I've been clear even if the requirement is a bit contorted.
It would be enough for me just know who is the program that produce the message "Last Login: ..." (eg, "Last Login: Mon Jul 6 10:03:59 from 10.173.123.34") in order that I can try to do the same thing with the number of unsuccessful login.
The message "Last Login: ..." is already printed on my Sistem. So I don't need to configure this: I only need to know how to print the number of failed login the same user attempts since last login successfully carried out.
I did some research online and almost all advise to put in "/etc /profile" the following lines:
echo "Login Successful LAST: $ (last-R $ LOGNAME | head -1)"
echo "Login Unsuccessful LAST: $ (lastb-R $ LOGNAME | head -1)"
The problem is that on my machine I can not find the command lastb. I can find Only the "last" command.
Thank youlastb is a Linux program, also available on HP-UX but not Solaris.
For Solaris you use the loginlog file - create a file in /var/adm - touch /var/adm/loginlog. Make it read and write only for the owner, which is root, and in group sys. Any failed logins at the command line login will show up in /var/adm/loginlog. Failures at the GUI login will not, these show up in /var/adm/messages. The only place I can see to get the last login information at the GUI would be from the /.dt/startlog.old in the user's home directory or /var/adm/messages. -
Init 5 doesn't shutdown Solaris 8 Sparc system
Hi,
I am trying to bring down the Solaris 8 Sparc system using the command # init 5 but it doesn't do anything whereas the command # shutdown brings down the system. What could be the problem of init 5 command not functioning.
Thanks & Regardsok, i should have caught this earlier
looks like, your program is not able to start because of not finding a symbol called __res_state. This symbol is found in /usr/lib/libresolv.so.2
the most likely reason is that u probably do not have some required patches installed
if u r open to install the sun patch cluster , then that is probably the best way to go
visit the below url
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/patch-access
and look for solaris 9 (around 180 mb of size) download this patch cluster and install them in single user mode
btw, when u have installed the jes version of web server,it is already running only in 32 bit.
hope this helps -
REP-3000: An internal error occured starting Oracle Toolkit Solaris 10 SPARC
I am running WL 10.3.6.0 with Forms/Reports 11.1.2.1.0 on a Solaris SPARC 10 64-bit box, specifically a T4.
Brand new install of Solaris 10 with only Forms/Reports installed as the user "oracle".
When I run rwbuilder.sh I get the dreaded REP-3000 error. I currently have an SR opened with Oracle but its taking forever and I've scoured the net for many different fixes which do not work. Forms Builder does work fine however.
Some things I have checked and/or changes I have made:
DISPLAY - set properly. I use ReflectionsX to get to my server, I can run xclock also, I've even tried xhost+.
I've tried running rwbuilder.sh direct at the console to make sure its not a ReflectionsX issue, same error.
NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
I've done an ldd on "rwbuilder" to make sure the binary's dependencies were met, all fulfilled with no problems.
Updated reports.sh:
REPORTS_DEFAULT_DISPLAY=NO
DISPLAY=(updated with my direct IP:0.0)
Relinked reports builder.
At this point I'm stumped. Anyone actually have Reports Builder working on a Solaris 10 SPARC box or am I poineering this? LOLREPORTS_DEFAULT_DISPLAY=NO is correct on AIX
Take a look at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B14048_02/pbr_rfap.htm#sthref3930
To revert to the dependency on DISPLAY and use screen fonts (old font look up algorithm):
* Set REPORTS_DEFAULT_DISPLAY=NO
* Remove the screenprinter.ppd entry in the uiscreenprint.txt file.
* Set the DISPLAY variable to the active X-Windows display surface.

Why won't eclipse 3.2.2 display properly on solaris 9 sparc?
hi all,
please, forgive me if this seems off-topic; but i believe it is on-topic because it has been suggested to me that my problem is down to something specific to solaris 9:
i installed eclipse 3.2.2 on my sunblade 100 (solaris 9 sparc; 1.5gb ram) from the following eclipse download page:
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/R-3.2.2-200702121330/
i updated all of the gtk-related pkgs to their latest versions from sunfreeware.com. however, i have experienced nothing but problems with eclipse 3.2.2 on solaris 9; as i have detailed in the following requests for help that i posted to other forums several weeks ago:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=177949#c13
http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/article.php?id=13466&group=eclipse.webtools#13466
http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/article.php?id=14891&group=eclipse.newcomer#14891
a reply in the above bug report from an eclipse developer says,
"If you were to run the same eclipse download on a Solaris 10 it would look fine." that comment leads me to my questions:
1. what is it about solaris 9's gtk setup (vs solaris 10's) that might cause "...broken PangoLayout..." warning messages (see above-mentioned bug report )?
2. what is it about solaris 9's gtk setup (vs solaris 10's) that might break any app's syntax-highlighting feature?
3. what is it about solaris 9's gtk setup (vs solaris 10's) that might cause any app's gui icons to appear dithered and grainy (see attachments in the above mentioned bug report).
thanks in advance for your help.I found by issue "mount -v" that our disk slices are
UFS type. So we don't need apply patch 5257399,
right? Please confirm. Thanks!!!For your information, you are asking the user community to confirm, not Oracle. Some (many?) of us are not employed by Oracle.
Therefore, the only answers you can get are from 'friends'. Nothing would be official and Oracle (and Oracle Support) would not be legally responsible.
Your safest bet would be to escalate the request wityh Oracle Support. -

Oracle 10g R2 installation on sun solaris 10 Sparc machine
Hi there,
I encountered the following problem during oracle 10g R2 installation on sun solaris 10 Sparc machine
Error encountered:

continuing with the installation,at which time they will be rechecked.

The following were the steps taken before encountering the above error
1. logged into a workstation
2. From its xterm terminal I logged to the oracle server via ssh oracle@ip
3. keyed in the following at the command prompt
DISPLAY=machine_name:0.0; export DISPLAY
4. executed the following from the command prompt
./runInstaller
Note: when executing the ./runInstaller, the preinstallation checking just hangs at Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors. But the log file shows it failed during preinstallation checking as shown in Error encountered
Please help me with this problem.
Thank you
Ravindran KanniahIt is because of UNIX shell. I also faced this error during installation.
First check your shell by the following command.
$ echo $SHELL
Then select the below.
For csh shell
$ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
For sh,ksh and bash
$ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0
$ export DISPLAY
After you do this check the value of DISPLAY variable.
$ echo $DISPLAY
If the DISPLAY variable is set then run ./runInstaller.
One advice: Keep a complete log of your terminal session. This will help you in future :)

How I can emulate Solaris 10 sparc on a Virtual Machine?
Hi for all.
Guys, I need to emulate an environment Solaris 10 in my job. We have an application that just run in this kind of environment. But, I found some problems when I try to install Solaris 10 Sparc on Virtual Box. I think that the problem is the type of architecture that are differents.
So, someone knows a way to emulate Solaris 10 sparc architecture on a Virtual Machine. Doesn't matter the Virtual Machine application (Virtual Box, VMWare, etc..). Somebody Help me?HI Srini_Chavali
I'm using the Solaris 10 u11.
In fact, Virtual Box supports Solaris u6 and higher. I have an installation of Virtual Box running Solaris x86. But, the problem occurs when I try to create a Virtual machine to work with Solaris 10 Sparc architecture.
The errors that appears on the screen are:
"No bootable medium found! System Halted" and "FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted"
This error occurs just with Architecture sparc. -
Several mysterious problems with Solaris 11 x86 install
Hi folks,
I've recently installed Solaris 11 x86 as a replacement for Solaris 9 SPARC on an Ultra 2 machine. I like the operating system, but I've promptly acquired some mysterious problems. The computer is a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E2500 with a Pentium 4 HT 3.06 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, an 80 GB SATA disk and a 147 GB SCSI disk.
I have had a few occasions on which the screen goes totally blank, the monitor claims that there is no signal, and I have to restart the machine. However, with the blank screen, the hard drive activity light is sometimes still flashing. This happens predictably when I try to log off (as opposed to shutting down) and when I use Totem media player and click on anything inside the Totem window. The motherboard has built-in graphics and brief specifications can be found here:
http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/professionalpc/ESPRIMO/Datasheets/ds_esprimo_edition_e2500.pdf
Yesterday my PS/2 keyboard started causing the motherboard to beep crazily when I use it. It beeps rapidly 4 times, then prints the expected character. However, the problem doesn't occur at the initial log in screen. The mouse cursor has also gone beserk on one occasion, flying all over the screen (I had this problem with a previous PC, but a different OS, and thought it was a hardware fault, which I why I got this new computer). With the keyboard problem, the machine is basically unusable. However, it is configured as a dual boot machine, and the keyboard problem isn't present with Windows XP.
There are also a few smaller, odd problems. Occasionally all the icons vanish from my Gnome desktop. The command prompt also mysteriously changed from $chris@pluto to $bash-4.1 just before the keyboard problem appeared, although that might have had something to do with me copying my home directory to a different disk and editing the /etc/auto_home file (moving the home directory worked fine). Also, unlike with Solaris 9 SPARC, I find that I have to have external SCSI devices switched on at boot time, should I want to use them later. That's a pain. With Solaris 9, I could run "boot -r" when I first attached the device, then switch on the SCSI devices and mount them whenever I wanted.
After the useful advice I received here about "more" and "less", I thought I'd post these problems and see if anyone can help. I'd really appreciate some advice. Can anyone identify likely causes for these problems? Which problems can I expect to solve and which do I have to live with?
Many thanks,
