This might seem a simple question, but I have downloaded Detroit Emeralds (Feel the Need in Me) as I used to have it as my default ringtone on my old Samsung Tocco. I want to have it on my new i phone 3G - how can I do it?

Not every song will have a ringtone available, they're designed specifically to be ringtones (i.e they're the catchiest 30 seconds of the song) so if they haven't made one it won't be available i'm afraid (this is where you would have to use an app).
As an example of one that has one, searching "Read all about it" finds you a ringtone of that song. It's under the "albums" section once you search.

The song's copyright holder would charge more for it if it was being played on multiple devices at once but overlooks the remote possibility that any given person would be playing the full song on two or more devices at the same time; there's much more chance of that happening if the song is converted into a ringtone, so they charge more.

We kow how to change ringtones, but the song does not appear in the ringtone list. How can we either get this song into the list of ring tones or set the song as the default ringtone?

You choose the default ringtone on the iPhone in Settings>Ringtone. If you don't see the ringtone he purchased there it may be a song rather than a ringtone (especially if it appears on the songs list in the Music app). He can still create a ringtone from this song using iTunes, then sync it to his phone and set it as his default ringtone. My concern was unfounded. I misread a FAQ at the Fotomagico website. My concern would be valid only for "third-party" applications, according to the website below. Phew!

I purchased a few songs via my iTunes account and downloaded the songs to my Windows PC. My goal was to put the songs on my Sprint (Samsung) music enabled phone. Can't use itunes purchased songs in iDVD

I'm trying to use a song I purchased on itunes as music for the menu of an iDVD project I'm working on, but all I get is the following message: This computer is not authorized to play "01 Americal Girl.m4p".
I was able to do this just fine until yesterday when I had to update itunes for my new ipod nano. Now I can't use ANY itunes purchased songs in iDVD or imovie.
Please help me solve this!!

Is there a way to know what apple id was used to purchase songs?

I backed up my songs and in order to play them I need to log in with the apple id that was used to purchase them and I don't remember it. Is there any way to figure it out?

If the songs are in your computer's iTunes library then you should be to see the account that bought them - see my reply on your earlier post : https://discussions.apple.com/message/23450213#23450213
If they aren't in your iTunes library then if you try to add them (File > Add To Library), and their account isn't already authorised, then are you prompted to authorise it ?

Apple Support Says the Apple ID I Used to Purchase Songs is Invalid

Apple Support says my Apple ID doesn't exist in their system. So I can't access any of my music files/authorize my new computer-the songs show up in the Library but they're not accessible. If I right click on the songs I purchased in the Library, I see the apple ID they're saying doesn't exist IS there and is the ID I used to purchase the songs. Use the password that was associated with that Apple ID at the time you purchased the songs, if you remember it. If you do not, use https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that does not work, can you review your purchase history in iTunes? Mine goes back over ten years despite multiple Apple ID changes.

Perhaps, but I think you'd be wasting your time. If they already told you they have no record of that Apple ID they have no record of it. You'll be better off sending them a copy of your purchase history. I don't see how anyone could argue with that.
