Using biztalk as ESB

Hi,
I want to publish a PL/SQL package as a webservice. Due to architectural requirements I'm not allowed to use the Oracle ESB. Instead I have to use BizTalk. Is this at all possible? What do I need to do in order to deploy my service through BizTalk? Is a WSDL enough or do I need more?
I'm scanning the internet for days now, but it seems like I'm the first one who wants to do this. ;-)
Hope someone knows an answer.
Thanks in advance,
Bart

The only problem you have is to expose the PL/SQL package as as Web Service. One option is to create Orchestration or ESB project. This proces then can be exposed as a Web Service through the WSDL. But this implies that this Web Service only can run when this SOA implementation is actually running on you infrastructure. And that is not the case as you stated (you have only BizTalk.) What you can do is install a lightweight (j2ee) web server and deploy s simple java servlet that invoke PL/SQL through some kind of interface. This can be a JDBC-connection or you can simply create a DB Adapter in your java application. That can be done not only in BPL or ESB projects but also in simple J2EE project. To do this, create New object in your project and select Business Tier, Web Services, DB Adapter. As a side effect you have to deploy the DB Adapter in you J2EE server.
Good luck, Jos.

    No, there are restrictions on using the ESB Portal.
    You can view the latest PUR here:

    However, the ESB Portal is not specifically mentioned.

  • How to alert user using BizTalk if a file is not dropped in a folder during a specified time using file adapter (or any other)

    Hi,
    I have a requirement wher the client wants BizTalk to alert users somehow when a file is not received at specific time. I am using a FILE receive adapter, the requirement is, if the FILE adapter does not receive a file on time then BizTalk should alert the
    users somehow. The client wants to use ESB toolkit to do this job.
    does anybody have any idea ?

  • Create null message using BizTalk mapper XSLT

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to check if a message contains a certian value, and if so, throw away the message.  Does anyone know how this could be done using BizTalk mapper/ XSLT?  It's an ESB messaging only solution so don;t want to introduce orchestratons
    / c# code.
    In short is field A = 'yes' the message will be thrown away / made null.
    Thanks in advance.
    GilesB

    If you consider doing this in Receive-side with some pipeline component, I am afraid you can't eat the data at the receive pipeline. For a null returned, I believe at least a empty message would be published to message box.
    Without orchestration, in message-only scenario one option you can consider is using a custom adapter where you can have your logic whether to send a stream/message out or not. Something like:
    public bool TransmitMessage(IBaseMessage msg)
    _terminate.Enter();
    try
    bool logMessages = Convert.ToBoolean(
    GetAdapterConfigValue(msg.Context, "logMessages")
    if ( logMessages ) {
    SystemMessageContext ctxt = new SystemMessageContext(msg.Context);
    //Add your logic using XPathReader - stream based XPath
    //and check whether the message has the value your're looking for
    bool isFound = false;
    if (!isFound)
    string msgData = "";
    StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(msg.BodyPart.Data);
    using (reader)
    msgData = reader.ReadToEnd();
    // discard the message
    return true;
    } finally {
    _terminate.Leave();
    Above is part of the send adapter code where you add your logic using XPathReader - stream based XPath and check whether the message has the value your're looking for. You can use
    null send adapter as refernce and build your logic where it would check for the required value in your custom adapter.

  • Best Way to port the data from one DB to another DB using Biztalk

    Hi,
    please suggest best way to move the data from one db to another DB using biztalk.
    Currently I am doing like that, for each transaction(getting from different source tables) through receive port, and do some mapping (some custom logic for data mapping), then insert to target normalized tables(multiple tables) and back to update the status
    of transaction in source table in sourceDB. It is processing one by one.
    How/best we we can do it using  bulk transfer and update the status. Since it has more than 10000 transaction per call.
    Thanks,
    Vinoth

    Hi Vinoth,
    For SQL Bulk inserts you can always use SQL Bulk Load
    adapter.
    http://www.biztalkgurus.com/biztalk_server/biztalk_blogs/b/biztalksyn/archive/2005/10/23/processing-a-large-flat-file-message-with-biztalk-and-the-sqlbulkinsert-adapter.aspx
    However, even though a SQL Bulk Load adapter can efficiently insert a large amount of data into SQL you are still stuck with the issues of transmitting the
    MessageBox database and the memory issues of dealing with really large messages.
    I would personally suggest you to use SSIS, as you have mentioned that records have to be processed in specific time of day as opposed to when the
    records are available.
    Please refer to this link to get more information about SSIS: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141026.aspx
    If you have any more questions related to SSIS, please ask it in
    SSIS
    forum and you will get specific support.

  • Using BizTalk Enterprise Edition 2009/2013 with SQL Server Standard Edition vs Enterprise Edition

    Hi All,
     I would like to know what are the Drawbacks of using BizTalk Server Enterprise Edition 2009/2013 with SQL Server Standard Edition vs Enterprise Edition.
    We are currently using Enterprise Edition.
    1) Are there any adverse performance constraints? Microsoft mentions to use SQL Server Enterprise Edition for "Optimal Performance" but does not expand on the topic.
    2) Any features missing?
    2) Is there a supported way to downgrade SQL Enterprise to Standard for an exisiting BTS Environment?
    Thanks!

    1) SQL Standard is limited to 4 CPU's and 64GB of memory while Enterprise is 8 CPU and 2TB or memory.
    2) The only BizTalk feature dependency on a SQL Enterprise feature is BAM Real-Time Aggrigations which requires Analysis Services RTA.
    3) Yes, but it's not a SQL downgrade really, you would move the BizTalk databases:

    2)How I can push this dat to CRM -????? That is what I like to know .
    I don't see there is adapter for Dynamics CRM . Basically we are trying to compare Biztalk with Mulesoft for this purpose.

  • Benefit of using BizTalk instead of SSIS/ETL

    Hello!
    I would like to know which tool is better to use, BizTalk ? or SSIS/ETL ?
    What is the benefit of using BizTalk instead of SSIS/ETL ?

    There is old blog of mine on this topic and following is extract from it. Also anothere thread in this BizTalk forum on this same topic shall also help you.
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a53f5d8c-d619-4ff6-ae54-2533bf7ad054/is-this-project-a-good-candidate-for-biztalk?forum=biztalkgeneral

    Extract from my old blog ....
    BizTalk and SSIS are different tools and fit different scenarios.
    SSIS is designed to move and manipulate very large amount of data over extremely high performance batch processing where BizTalk has been designed to move, process, validate, transform, and route low rate of
    transactions consisting of tiny amounts of business data
    Use SSIS for:
    Large ETL processes like de-batching the large CSV file into SQL database, or cleansing the large record before inserting in to database.
    Batch Oriented Scenarios i.e. when the files need to be processed in specific time of the day as opposed to file needs to be processed as and when the files are available.
    Use BizTalk:
    When you have to do the Business Process Management (BPM). i.e. some business processes.
    Near real-time scenarios i.e. as and when the files are available and it has to be processed.
    SSIS and BizTalk can work together:
    Though SSIS and BizTalk are used in different place depends on the scenario, it’s important to note that we can use SSIS with BizTalk. They can work together. For Example we have a project that would receive
    a batch of data once a day - containing 1000s of records. SSIS would receive the data, and then scrub the data (or validate the format). Once the data was acceptable, BizTalk would pick up each record and do the business processing.
    BizTalk can do SQL-BULK insert but..
    For bulk data processing we can use “SQL Bulk Load adapter ” available from
    http://www.biztalkgurus.com/blogs/biztalksyn/archive/2005/10/23/Processing-a-Large-Flat-File-Message-with-BizTalk-and-the-SqlBulkInsert-Adapter.aspx
    which can efficiently insert a large amount of data into SQL you are still stuck with the issues of transmitting the MessageBox database and the memory issues of dealing with really large messages.

  • Extracting Base64 images embeded inside XML and Convert it into PDF using Biztalk

    Hi,
    I'm presently working in a scenario, where we will be getting huge XML Files containing Base64 encoded images. The scenario goes like this :-
    1) Client will dump the XML files with embedded Base64 images in a sFTP location.
    1) Firstly, we have to extract Base64 encoded images and the metadata from the XML file.
    3) Secondly, we need to convert the extracted Base64 encoded image into multiple pdf.
    4) Then merge the PDF's into a single file.
    5) Then the merge pdf will store to a particular location.
    5) It is presume that, the file will be of very big in size ~ 1 GB XML file, so we need to take care of the performance as well.
    The sample xml looks like:-
    <ns0:tran xmlns:ns0="http://Sample.Schemas.Record_XML">
      <tranheader>
      </tranheader>
      <item>
        <image>
          <frontimage>
            <frontimage> image 1 part 1</frontimage>
          </frontimage>
          <rearimage>
            <rearimage>image 1 part 2</rearimage>
          </rearimage>
          <frontimage>
            <frontimage> image 2 part 1</frontimage>
          </frontimage>
          <rearimage>
            <rearimage>image 2 part 2</rearimage>
          </rearimage>
          <frontimage>
            <frontimage> image 3 part 1</frontimage>
          </frontimage>
          <rearimage>
            <rearimage>image 3 part 2</rearimage>
          </rearimage>
        </image>
      </item>
      <trantrailer>
      </trantrailer>
    </ns0:tran>
    Thanks & Regards

    Do you really need to use BizTalk for this requirement? This can be done better with standard .NET code through a Windows service/schedule task/ if you want to poll,
    you can implement file watcher class and poll the file as when it arrive to SFTP folder and convert the image in base64 to PDFs.
    Another point, I don’t know why you want to “convert the extracted Base64 encoded
    image into multiple pdf” (Point-3) and “Then merge the PDF's into a single file”-
    point4. You can create a single PDF file (unless I don’t know the reason for creating separate PDF file and merge it again as single PDF file)
    Anyway, if you still need to use BizTalk, you have somes options in general:
    Option1:
    Receive the message using BizTalk receive location using passthrouhg pipeline at receive end
    Create a send port with filter for receive portname. In the send port use a custom send pipeline. In the send pipeline use a custom pipeline component which will extract the base64 content from
    the XML file, convert the base64 encoded image as PDF and send the PDF file in the send port level.
    Option 2 – this options works better if you have some process based on your
    <tranheader> record:
    Receive the message using BizTalk receive location using a custom pipeline strip off, decode and store the base64
    encoded document in a temporary store (file system). So when the message is published in message box db, the message doesn’t contain the heafty encoded64 data part, message will be light weight when its published into message box.
    Process the XML message (without bae64 encoded document) with or without orchestration where you will do processing based on your
    <tranheader> record.
    In send last moment –at send port level, retrieve the stored file from the
    temporary store (file system), convert the image to PDF (i,e, hefty processing like creation of PDFs/merging) can be done at the send pipeline level and send the PDF file
    to destination.
    Following are the guidelines you should keep in mind if you need to achieve this process in BizTalk:
    Try to avoid publishing the hefty message to message box.
    Conversion of base64 to PDF can be done only using a .NET code. So your options to do this conversion in BizTalk are either in Receive pipeline/send pipeline/ .NET helper in orchestration.
    Try not to use Orchestration as much as possible, because of heavy processing and message transmission is already involved.
    Following articles shall help you in this context:

  • BizTalk an ESB?

    I am looking into architectural patterns, Enterprise Services Bus (ESB) precisely. Upon reading this article Enterprise
    Integration, and with little to no experience I am wondering if BizTalk has is a ESB or is it just a EAI (Hub/Spokes or Bus)?
    I found this NServiceBus and Biztalk, describing BizTalk as a central message broker.
    Taking other ESB frameworks into account (NServiceBus and Rhino Service Bus). These frameworks have no central point to process messages.
    Is Biztalk a EAI rather than an ESB?

    If you look at patterns then ESB is a pattern while EAI is a methodology. BizTalk is a product that caters to EAI but implements a publish-subscribe pattern.
    ESB is an enhanced publish-subscribe pattern with other patterns such a broker (decide across multiple providers) or bus (same message to multiple subscribers) thrown in.
    BizTalk apart from being used to make messages available across multiple subscribers can also be used to build a complete process (including handling long running transactions) [or Orchestrations] which can then be made available within BizTalk as another
    subscriber. While BizTalk has a nomenclature such as send/receive ports, orchestrations, pipelines.. the ESB nomenclature was different such as on-ramp messaging (which is basically a receive port - multiple locations with pipelines doing party resolution
    and handing over to role-link based orchestrations) or off-ramp messaging (which is basically send ports) or Itinerary (basically an orchestration). While BizTalk Orchestrations are more the build and deploy, the ESB itinerary is configuration driven.
    To address these variations in nomenclature and behavior, Microsoft makes available (supports it too) and ESB Toolkit that builds over BizTalk and permits you to treat the BizTalk infrastructure as an ESB.
    The point to remember is that ESB is an EAI pattern and BizTalk is an EAI product but can be used for implementing an ESB pattern.
    Regards.

    your problem:
    Missing class: oracle.tip.adapter.jms.JmsManagedConnectionFactory
    Dependent class: oracle.tip.adapter.fw.wsdl.WSDLUtils
    Loader: oracle.bpel.common:10.1.3

    It happens when server is custom installed, try to reinstall it as full version and problem should disappear otherwise your need another full installation to retrieve and replace orabpel.jar file from (or maybe more)

  • How to handle rpc/encoded style messages using BizTalk?

    I am integrating with a lot of services and one of our customers has a service with rpc/encoded style
    I could consume and generate schema from their wsdl file via BizTalk consume WCF wizard.
    Once I am trying to call the service with request message that generated from the schema, it is giving an error that can not desterilize the first element of the message.
    No Deserializer found to deserialize a 'FieldName' using encoding style 'null'
    I compared the stub xml request message from SaopUI and I noticed that the xml expecting the data type with the element like this .
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:wsb="WSBanka">

    <anahtar xsi:type="xsd:string">?</anahtar>
    </wsb:bnkBorcsorgulama>
    </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>
    On the other hand, I got the request of the message from Fiddler using the BizTalk , and the generate xml of the BizTalk schema without the data type.
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:wsb="WSBanka">
    <soapenv:Header/>
    <soapenv:Body>
    <wsb:bnkBorcsorgulama>
    <sozlesmeNo>?</sozlesmeNo>
    <bankaKodu>?</bankaKodu>
    <anahtar>?</anahtar>
    </wsb:bnkBorcsorgulama>
    </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>
    In SoapUi, if I remove a datatype from the message, I will get same error from the BizTalk request.
    I read some articles that rpc/encoded style are not supported but I am not sure and these articles are not clear.
    I also read that it was supported with Soap adapter but now it is deprecated.
    So, Is there any one has an experience in rpc/encoded style messages and how to handle these message in BizTalk or is there any work around to handle these messages?
    Your inputs really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,
