Using external data dictionaries

Hi,
here is my scenario: in the Account Detail Page the Address fields (County, Street, Zip Code) must be filled in from an external source. The user should access a link <Choose address> , a new window should open rendering the external data to choose from, and on closing the searching window the address fields shoud be filled with those selected by the user.
How could this be accomplished? Is there any possibility to pass a value selected in the child window (a custom applet for extracting the external data) to the CoD Account Detail Page?
What are the possibilities to make a custom lookup window with data extracted from an external database?

Hi Simona,
I think you are on the right track. There are a number of ways to accomplish what you want to do, given that you will need to build integration to complete the activity as defined in your email.
You could make the addresses read-only in CRMOD and provide a custom Weblink that calls the external address application. The key would be that the external address application would need to use web services to attach the address to the account once a user selects it. You can pass parameters to the secondary application, via the weblink, so that the address application would have the information to attach the address once it is selected. The only "issue" that I could think of would be that users would need to refresh the page to see the address after they complete the selection in the external system.
Another solution could be one where the address data is stored in another application altogether and the data is shown to users via a web app. In this scenario, the address data would not necessarily be integrated with CRMOD at all, but that would be a design decision. The complexity here is that you now have multiple applications and data stores for the data, and that data wouldn't be available within CRMOD (depending on design) for any CRMOD native functionality.

hi,
say we have clients in an external database, we create the external content type for use in sharepoint 2013
we create two content types, Quote and Order for use in a library
we create a document library that uses the above content types
we then add a column for the external data ( in this case Client Name- but also include ID) , we have the option to copy to content type selected. so now library shows 'Client' and 'Client:ID'
I believe that column gets added to list content types based on the 2 document content types.
so we have list items , which have a document , a content type and a piece of data from the external LOB system.
now that is fine, works great, however, how do you configure the content search web part to return documents based on the piece of external data - ie client:ID ? or Client Name ?
I can map the client:ID to one of the Int00 managed properties and crawl etc - but do not see a way to use that to return documents
any help would be appreciated :)

UCCX 10 CUIC Custom Report (using external data source)

Hi.
We have a customer where we are storing information in an external data source. We would like to built a report and import that report into their UCCX CUIC System in order for the customer to have the new report along side with the UCCX built-in reports. We need to add the external data source to CUIC but I'm not sure if the strip CUIC version of UCCX can allow that. Is that possible?
I know that with CUIC Premium we can add third party data sources into the CUIC. The Premium CUIC NFR allows that and we can create the report but for it to work in UCCX we need to add the external data source to CUIC.
What are my options? If any?

Hi Jose,
You can basically build custom reports on a standalone CUIC server and import them to the CUIC on UCCX.
But I am not sure if this datasource is continuously polling information from the DB and giving it to the report and if this is possible.

Error using External Data Link

I just downloaded the trail of Visio Pro 2013 to test our the ability to reverse-enigineer my Data Warehouse db, running on postgres. After getting the ODBC connection configured and tested, I was given a list of the tables in the DB I connected to. First
of all it doesn't appear to let you pick all of the tables to bring into your drawing, so I gues it's 1 entity (table) at a time. I picked a table and then an an error occurred: Microsoft Visio cannot connect to this data source. Then there is an error code
80004005: Error relation stdw.public.dimcalendar does not exist. Not sure how it can't exist all of a sudden since I pick the table from the list Visio gave me after getting connected to the DB. I tried another table, same result. What happened and how can
I get this error to go away? Thanks.

I am trying to update the external data field value. its updating and showing in view correctly but when i try to edit its showing old value only.
Ex: I have a external data with field values ( test1,test2,test3,... so on)

Web Analyzer - ability to access external data sources?

Documentation on help.sap.com for the 2004s Web Analyzer notes it can render queries, query views, infoproviders, and <b>external data sources</b> for ad-hoc analysis in the standardized reporting template.
Can anyone clarify exactly what constitutes external data? To my knowledge, I didn't think it was possible to report on something outside of the BI instance (let's say an Oracle table on another server, for example).

Hi Scott,
in the Web Analyzer you can use external OLAP data sources(ODBO or XMLA) . Relational data sources are not supported in NW2004s.
You can set this up in the portal system landscape.

Depending on the data source different capabilities are supported, so that some options are only available when you are using the BI OLAP Processor and won't be supported when using external data sources.

About 'External data' and 'Procedure' option in PLD

Can u please tell me what is the use of 'procedure' option in PLD.we can get this option when we select any text then in the genral tab of properties if we select field type as 'EXTERNAL DATA' then in the content tab we get source type 'PROCEDURE NAME'.
Please give me example of this.

You can use external data field to display
company logo,Signatures etc., that is of legal importance.
Create company logos's/signatures and run it as a dll file.
Add dll file in procedure name in external data field.

Error in KEFC transaction - External Data Transfer

I am getting this error while using external data transfer function using KEFC.
Plan version is not supported -> check your entry
Message no. KG 029
Diagnosis
Plan version"xx" has not been created in operating concern"xxxx"
Procedure
Transfer version"xx" to operating concern"xxxx" and maintain the attributes for that version.
I have checked plan version settings. It has been created for operating concern as well. I am not sure how to resolve this. Any suggestion or help would be appreciated.

Please check whether you defined a constant value for characteristic VERSI (Version) in the transfer rules for your sender structure. If you don't want to define a constant value there you have to assign a field from your external structure and fill the version in your external file. In this case please consider to fill the field in the following format '1 ' for version 1 (don't use '001').
Please refer and implement note 576807 in your system if it is in your system . Also refer note 508273 for a possible list of problems in external data transfer.

BAM external data source

We have around 400k records on which we want to build reports and in our initial approach we are planning to store the data in external tables and use external data source. For POC we created external tables and data source with around 55k records and some basic reports which used sum to group the data. For some reason this report won't load and we don't see any exceptions in the logs. In database session we can see the query it's executing and when we run the same query from sql plus, it returns data within less than 1sec. So we are unsure what the issue could be.
We are looking for some pointers on what should we look for and how we can resolve this issue. Also if there is any way to specify jdbc connection pool properties.

BAM is not for reporting purpose. It is ONLY for dashboard purpose. BAM itself has few over heads. So the response is not only dependent on query execution.
Try creating only updating list with no conditions. Check if it is working. then go for complex reports with conditions.

In the error it is showing that file expense_categories.csv in SOURCE_LOCATION not found but I am 100% sure that file is very much there.
Is anybody face the same issue?
Do we need to configure something before loading data from a flat file from OWB Client?

Now I am able to fetch data from flat files from OWB Server as well as OWB Client.
One way I have achieved as suggested by you
1) Creating location on the OWB Client
2) Samples the files at client
3) Created & Configured external table
4) Copy all flat files on OWB Server
5) Updated the location which I created at the client.
Other way
1) Creating location on the OWB Client
2) Samples the files at client
3) Created & Configured external table
4) Copied flat files on the sever in same drive & directory . like if my all flat files are on C:\data at OWB Client then I copied flat file C:\data on the OWB Server. But this is feasible for Non-Windows.
Hence my problem solved.

External hd that I used for data died... it is backed up on time machine... how do I restore all my data from time machine to a new external hd?

I installed the Lion OS this weekend. After Spotlight tried to index my external hard drive (that I use to store all my data), the external hard drive died. I expected that to happen at some point. The hard drive was an old FireWire 400 LaCie that I had working with my 2009 iMac (FireWire 800) by using an adaptor cable.
My Time Machine backs up both my Macintosh (internal) HD and my external data HD. I know I need to buy a new external drive to use to store my data.
But, then what? How do I get all the content from the backups of the old external (data) HD to the new one?

How to load external data without using external tables

Hi,
I'm asked to develop an ETL for loading external data into a database but, unfortunately, the vers. is 8i so I can't use external tables.
I know that it's possible by using SQL-Loader. What I want to know is whether there's another way in 8i to load external data from a text file or a CSV file directly with a stored procedure without having to write CTL of SQL-Loader on the server. I mean, is there a way to write everything on the database the same manner I'd do whether I wrote data from a table to a file using for example UTL_FILE or the unique way is to write control files of SQL-Loader directly on the server?

Hi... What is the error message you get when using external tables?
You must create a control center connection in the Connection Explorer.
