Using Flex SWC in Flash CS3 (ADOBE EXPERT NEEDED)

I've searched everywhere, and there is not one good answer to
the question: "How do I use a Flex AS3 Class Library in Flash CS3?"
So I decided to come to the source :)
This question has also been asked on this forum twice, but
got no answer.
Any help on this topic will be greatly appreciated

If you're using Flex 2, there's a solution using a
manifest.xml file. Tim Walling details it on
his
blog, but I haven't found a way to get it to work for Flex
3.

  • Using Flex components within Flash CS3

I'm new to Flex and I enjoy all of the components that it has
to offer, but I am wondering about their availability within Flash.
My plan is to make a highly animated and interactive menu and
I have reached a point where I have to ask two questions:
    1. Is is possible to use any of the Flex components within
    Flash CS3?
    2. If the first is not possible, then if I make my menu and
specify "containers" within the Flash file then is it possible to
populate these "containers" with Flex components by making the
Flash (.swf) file of my menu into a Flex component itself?

No, Flex components cannot be used in Flash 8.

  • How do I use a Flex swc in Flash CS3?

My engineering team has used Flex to create a nice little swc
for me to use inside of Flash CS3, but now I'm having trouble
finding any documentation on how to actually import it. Placing it
in the Components folder doesn't work, as it's not recognized by
the Components window (either as an AS2 or AS3 swc). Is it even
possible to use swcs from Flex in Flash? Thank you very much for
    the help.

  • How to use Flex Components with Flash?

    Hi!!
I found a lot of very useful components in the web, but they are all for  Flex, is it possible to use Flex Components with Flash IDE?
    Thanks !!!
    jenry
PS: this is one of the components I need to use (a tree with checkbox  nodes)
    http://www.sephiroth.it/file_detail.php?pageNum_comments=30&id=151
    another one:
    http://www.darronschall.com/weblog/2006/09/a-flex-2-checked-tree-control-component.cfm

Flex components are delivered as SWCs just like Flash components, but the
SWC format is incompatible with the Flash IDE.
Also, the default fl.. components in the Flash IDE are incompatible with
    Flex components.
You should be able to load a Flex SWF into a Flash SWF as long as you aren't
using fl.. components in the Flash SWF.  If the Flex SWF overlays things
in your Flash SWF then it might block interaction, but otherwise it
shouldn't.  I don't think the statement you quoted is true for all
    configurations.
But loading a Flex SWF into a Flash SWF isn't going to help you use those
Flex components from your Flash IDE.  Try Flash Builder 4 to build out the
Flex portion of your application.  I haven't tried it myself, but it I think
it is supposed to have better integration with Flash.

You might want to try in the flexCoders Yahoo! group.

  • Using Flex Code in Flash

    Hi everyone,
I really hope you can help me with this. Here's my
    situation...
I've developed a flex application that connects to another
java application using "BlazeDS". It works great!! The reason why I
did this is because I'm developing (along with a Flash designer) a
website of a music band, and I use java to connect to a database
that has all the "gigs", news and subscribers to the website.
Everything works great in Flex, my problem is I'm not a
    designer, I'm a developer. So I wanted to know if there's a way I
can just give my designer friend a code so he can use it in Flash
CS3?? (Like to send him objects containing the info. For example,
give him a concerts object that contains the date and the location
so he can build the datagrids for the concerts page in Flash)
I think there must be a way to use Flex libraries in CS3, or
maybe create some kind of Flex class that will work as a
"communication interface" between the database and the flash code,
    I'm really not sure...
In other words, I need to know how can my designer friend use
(in Flash) what I've developed in Flex.
Please let me know if there's a way...
Just in case you need to know, I use Flex's Eclipse plug in
(it's easier for me this way cause I have java and flex in the same
    place!)
    Thanks!!!!!!

No need then to use the LocalConnection. In a listener
function (add a listener function for the complete event of the
SWFLoader) you can retrieve a reference to the loaded swf and get
the two values from the swf if they are public and on frame 1 of
    the main timeline.
    private function onSWFLoaded():void
//retrieve a reference to the loaded swf
    var loadedSWF:MovieClip = logn.content as MovieClip;
    <mx:SWFLoader autoLoad="true" id="logn" source="main.swf"
    horizontalCenter="8" verticalCenter="185" height="364" width="588"
    complete="onSWFLoaded()"></mx:SWFLoader>

  • Flash CS3 / Adobe products: crashes or acting erraticly

    HI -
I recently posted a thread conserning Flash CS3 deleting the
contents or erroring out my built and working .fla's and .swf's
apon opeing them to edit the .fla's.
Suspected a virus - scanned etc etc.
an Avast boot scan showed a corrupt cab archive avast error
    #42127 on a boot scan for a DW20.exe adn 4 or 5 other cab
archives... thes are all related to Visual Basic C# - the DW20 .exe
is for error reporting to MS about crashes. - thsi may be an "avast
error" - but no viruses detected.
I checking my WinXP error logs for a further clue they showed
at the time of Flash CS3 crashing when trying to preview - it was
    due to FFMpeg.exe
is this something that flash implements in importing a video
    file or perhaps a mpeg?
When these crashes started, i was attempting to import a .wmv
(- which btw - i thought past flash 8 there was no problems with -
it now asks for Direct Show to be installed or Quicktime.?? Maybe
someone can give an answer to this as well My understanding was
that past Flash 8 - this was no longer nessasary - if this is true
    - any thoughts as to why CS3 is asking me to install these products
to import or encode a wmv file?
Back to topic: Since attempting to bring in the wmv video
and/or mpeg audio and/or the flv i was experimentiing with
    - Flash not only crashes on me when attempting to open any
    .fla now.
    - but also destroys or corrupts all other .fla's and .swf's
in the same file folder as the one i'm working on.
My questiion is - since ffmeg is not a win exe - is this
something that Flash implements in it's importing of a video or
    audio file? or at all.
I have 12 error event crashes listed from Flash - all list
    the same:
    " faulty application ffmeg.exe
    - faulty module: ffmeg.exe
    - fault address 0x001be5e3
    - event id:1000
anyone have knowledge on how to fix this or what may cause
    this -
I mentioned the cab errors because i'mm not sure if one is
related to the other - i had C# installed but removed it from the
    comp.
as mentioned in my other post related to this - Photoshop
Lightbox is also acting complety crazy as well - all adobe products
are the ones seemly - that i know of or noticed thus far - the only
    products acting up.
I need this issue fixed - as i have to finish my fla! lol
I'd much rather be doing that than trouble shooting crashes
from Flash or other Adobe products acting up.
Any help would really be appriciated since this goes beyond
    my skills and knowledge.
    thanx

Sure wish I had a quick fix, but it will take more info than
what you have entered. I was having a lot of trouble also, until I
did the 5 tasks listed below.
    1. Is there enough memory for Flash CS3? Setup tells you how
much and if you have enough to install the program.
    2. Is there enough storage space for Flash CS3? Again, Setup
tells you how much it needs and if ;you have enough to install the
    program.
    3. How many files do you have on your hard disk? The amount
of directories and files on your hard disk matters a great deal
when you are installing new programs. I usually go through my c:\
directory and get rid of programs I don't use. I try to keep my
folders and files at the lowest I can get away with.
    4. When was the last time you cleaned and defragged the
    registry?
This matters a great deal too. If you have an overabundance
of empty registry keys, etc. it can hang up your computer too. I
use RegCure, it's a great program.
    5. When was the last time you did a defrag on C:\? Many
people don't realize that just these 5 tasks can have a bad effect
    on your hard drive.
It would be a great thing if you uninstall Flash CS3, do
tasks 1-5 and then reinstall Flash CS3. Seems like a lot of work,
but it is extremely important to keep your computer running at its
    best.
    hope this helps.

  • Using web services with flash cs3 and actionscript 3.0

    Hi,
I want to use web services under flash cs 3 and by using as
    3.0.
It was possible with as 2.0 to do it easily thanks to the
    webservice Connector.
But I can't find how to use web services under flash and as
    3.0.
I thought web services took part of the many improvements
flash cs 3.0 contain, but obviously it does not:(
Can anybody help me to use webservices with flash cs 3 and as
    3.0?
    Thanks in advance,

Dark Armor, You mentioned the book Adobe Flash CS4 Professional Classroom in a Book, which I have.  I could not find anything in there.  Did you mean to say Actionscript 3.0 for Adobe Flash CS4 Professional?  I do have that book and it looks like there is information there.  Just wanting to make sure that you meant what you said.  Thanks!

  • CS3 missing components or How to use Flex 2 components in CS3

Does anyone have a good resource for how to use Flex2
    components in CS3?
I found an install that said it would install Flex2
components in CS3, but all it added waas the UIMovieClip for
packaging Flash MC in swc's for Flex.
Right now I am specifically trying to solve the missing

But I would like to find out if anyone has found a good

I'm hoping the answer is not to build them from scratch.

  • I'm using ActionScript 3 in flash CS3, and everything is the color of a square next to my timeline

HELP! I cannot figure it out! I'm trying to design an opening animation for my show, but it's all one color. I NEED HELP!

If they are just outlines of the content, then you might have mistakenly selected the outline view option.  If that's the case, then just click the colored ractangles you mentioned that are next to the layer names (or click the one atop all of them).  ANother placeto look is the View -> Preview Mode ->... and make sure Outlines is not selected.
If neither of those is the case, then can you show a screenshot?

  • Using 10.5 what flash version do I need.

Using 10.5.8   iMac G5. What version flash do I need to view BBC iplayer/

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.
I am in the same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer (using Safari), although all other flash videos (YouTube for example) are fine.
For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.
You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.

  • Flash or SlideShowPro expert needed?????

    Okay,
I need someone who really knows this topic and can help me.
I have created a test slideshow thru Slideshow Pro. It works perfect on my computer when I click the html file created in Flash.
Problem: I don't know how/where/which files to put in iWeb.
The final creation after configuring Flash: (5) files in a folder on my desktop. They are: XML, .swf, .fla, html, and a folder containing the slideshow images.
What do I do w/ all this? I was assured it can be integrated by several people. I know it can be done.....I am just lacking in knowledge.
Any advice or maybe point me in the right direction......
    Edit: Flash is Basic 8
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   http://www.the-camera-obscura.com

    Good job so far?
The rest of the integration is pretty straightforward with the basic text box placeholder text replacement. If you need the steps, here they are...
    1. Insert a text box on your desired iWeb page.
    2. Adjust the size of the text box in the Inspector Ruler tab to the exact dimensions needed for your SSP presentation.
    3. Position the text box exactly where you would like your SSP presentation to be on your page.
    4. Type in some placeholder text like "SSPCODEHERE" without changing anything about the text...no bold, no underline, no centering, no font changes...nothing...just type it in.
    5. Now publish the page. Find the associated .html file for the page. Open it up in a text editor
    6. Find your placeholder text "SSPCODEHERE" and replace it with the following code...
    <-iframe src="http://homepage.mac.com/abenningfield/Slideshow/" width="550" height="400" scrolling="no" border="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe->
Note: You'll need to remove the two dashes "-"...one in front of the first "iframe" and the other after the last "iframe". Just remove the dashes...leave the brackets alone. I had to do this in order to make sure the code would display instead of being executed as HTML. Also, replace the width and height values to reflect your iWeb text box dimension. You may also need to adjust the URL so that it points to wherever you choose to locate the SSP folder.
    7. Save the changes and publish/sync.
If all goes well, you will see your SlideShowPro slideshow in all its glory when you load up your iWeb page. Congratulations.
Please note that you will have to make sure that the SSP background matches your iWeb page background for the most seamless and integrated look.
